I wish that I could give a better review. I really thought about giving 2 stars because I think that they are CURRENTLY serving below average food. We had the crab rangoon app. I felt that it was over cooked and too heavy garlic flavor that did not allow the crab to come through. My husband had the crab fried rice. The rice was more like a sticky rice vs fried rice. It had more ginger than it should of. Again it did not let the crab flavor come through. We have visited this restaurant numerous times over the past 2 years since we moved to the area. It has slowly gone downhill. Constant issue of being out of items. One time on a Sunday when it's cajun food they were out of rice. We usually stop in between 5-6 PM. Not close to the end of the evening. read more

Half price wine Wednesday !! Need I say more ? Actually the food was pretty dang good as well. We just did some appetizers and a piece of key lime pie. Started off with bruschetta. Now I am not a huge cherry tomato fan but these were roasted fantastically. And the whipped ricotta was a great addition. We also got the octopus. It was done perfectly. A little chewy and so flavorful. Then we got angry mussels. They were done also perfectly and had a good amount of heat to them. Also got a lobster roll. That was the only item that we would probably not order again. Had a lot of other stuff on it that made it hard to taste the lobster. To finish off we had to get key lime pie. And it is not a slice. But an adorable little individual pie. Topped with fresh made whip cream. It was fabulous!! And I am picky when it comes to my pie. All in all we will be back. Absolutely AMAZING food and atmosphere. The service by Tricia was outstanding and enthusiastic. The bartender was also a super friendly guy. We have been wanting to try this place and finally just made a reservation at the last minute. The nautical decor is the first thing that caught my eye. Love the ceiling lights. The raw oysters were good. I did not like the large Chesapeake ones much but the smaller beusoleill ones are tasty. The best thing I tasted was the shrimp and cheese grits OH MY GOSH a party for my taste buds. It is super rich but wow! I also tried a bite of my brother's Lump crab sushi bowl. Very fresh. My husband got lobster curry which I didn't care for as I am not a curry fan but he inhaled it. I didn't think the prices were too outrageous. Well worth the visit. read more

Had reservations for valentines day dinner here. Our table was not ready so we sat at the bar and had some drinks. I ordered the white sangria. It was very good and refreshing. The restaurant is decorated nicely, the bar area is perfect for drinks or even to sit and have dinner there. We ordered oysters as an appetizer and really enjoyed them. We got three different kinds and I loved all three. I would go back for the oysters alone!! For my main dish I got the Cioppino. It came with shrimp , mussels, crab, scallops, calamari, fish, in a tomato, seafood stock. The shrimp were huge, scallops were delicious and the mussels so tasty. This is a sea food lovers dream. My friend got the lobster tail and was very meaty and amazing. For a side we got the roasted potatoes and those were good. Overall, it was a very good experience. Server was attentive and pleasant. Overall, a solid 4. Top notch seafood. Meh service. Looking ahead at the menu before making a reservation, we loved the seafood selection and the variety of preparations from which to choose. Fresh Oysters sealed the deal. When we arrived on time there was no available table. After we were seated, service was slow but the restaurant was packed! My fish arrived undercooked and was returned to the kitchen for a refire, but they didn't replate so it was served dry. It went downhill from there. We ordered dessert. I can't recommend the disaster they call the banana wonton. It's a whole lot of wonton with little to no banana. Bottom line, skip dessert and don't pass up the Oysters. Allow plenty of time between courses. They aren't in a hurry to turn over tables. read more

Coming back from a day of kayaking and hiking, I really wanted real food. Not fast food. Not a chain. But not looking so hot in a muddy t-shirt and shorts, I dug through my trunk and found a golf shirt. Better than nothing and hopefully presentable enough. The bread was really good. Or maybe it's because I was exhausted and starving. But still. Very good. The sushi bowl was huge. And amazing. Even if I hadn't been starving, I'd have loved that sushi bowl. It was loaded with salmon. Since I wasn't driving, I also ordered 3 drinks. All day in the sun (dehydrated) + 3 reallllly good cocktails = Mel asleep in the car. But not before ordering and eating 2 desserts. The butter cake and a s'more. I wish it was closer. My mother and I came in tonight and after looking at their website, I had my heart set on the Lobster Roll. The picture shows a healthy amount of lobster within a brioche bun so I was quite excited to try that. Unfortunately, having already made my mind up, I didn't read the in-person menu which states that it is actually served with a baguette. I was a little surprised seeing it served on a baguette, but I was excited and the bruschetta was great so I had high hopes. It was underwhelming to say the least. It was mostly baguette, and the lobster was not the star of the dish whatsoever. It was quite hard to taste due to the lack of it. Not worth $20. Not sure why you guys don't use pictures of your own food on your website, but it's quite deceiving in my opinion. Please consider updating the online menu and swapping out the pictures for some of your own! Service wasn't bad whatsoever, but the server wasn't terribly friendly either. Since we chose a Tuesday evening for dinner, our friends were able to indulge their appetite for oysters. They love the oyster special here on Tuesdays. We all ordered different dinners ... and my primary reason for writing this review is the entree I had: Chilean Sea Bass. I ordered it grilled ... a simple prep that let this most excellent filet shine. The dish was - simply- perfect! That is not something I say lightly. Being from Baltimore and a lover of seafood, I was surprised to find such a great seafood spot in Ottawa. Well done! Cant wait to go back!

This place is over priced, under staffed, and honestly lacking in flavor for what you're paying. Not to mention the owner is probably the rudest person I have ever seen.... I watched him turn away a family when there were plenty of open tables. Peculiar little fellow for someone hoping their business will flourish. Skip the line and head down the street. This was just an amazing dining experience. My husband and I were visiting Starved Rock and found this eatery recommended for the area. We kicked it off with a couple of drinks. Next we decided to get some oysters. You could actually choose how many you wanted which we loved. They had three different types. Next we put in our orders. I went with the Shrimp & Grits. My hubby had the Thai Curry Lobster. All I can say is if you are in the area or visiting something close by please stop here. Our food was exceptional. The prices are fairly high for this area but the food quality speaks for itself. You'd pay more in the city for the same great quality. We will surely be returning. read more

Stopped by there last night on our way to Milwaukee. It was Valentine's Day and they were taking reservations, of which we had NONE. But, in spite of no reservation they worked with us and got us a table. The place was packed! My food (cioppino) was excellent and I had 2 excellent bourbon old fashions. I have zero complaints about the Beach House and give it 5 stars. But, the purpose of my review is for the staff. As I said, this place was packed and, understandably, getting our food took a little while longer than normal. That was fine. The extra time gave me the opportunity to watch reception, wait staff, bartender, servers, kitchen help and dishwashers all busting their butts go get everyone seated, served drinks, taking orders, serving food and everything else with no complaints, smiles on their faces and super friendly. This cute restaurant has the best seafood in the Illinois Valley. The flavors are consistently delicious and they do have very fresh fish. Their drink menu has a nice variety of specialty cocktails. Delicious is an understatement! We went for dinner for our Anniversary on 5/13. They greeted us right away n our waitress was very friendly . The Decore was super adorable , such a nice atmosphere. Our food was amazing. We had the weekend specials swordfish blackened & the trout Caribbean style. Along with the potatoes and the Brussel sprout . I could have had en the entire dish of those Brussel sprouts ! My husband is a meat n potatoes kinda of guy, so when he says everything is amazing , it really is. The only issue for him was he wished there was more than just 6 baby potatoes that came with the dish( probably just because they were so good) . Thank you for a great dinner! read more

Drove to visit the wine fest in Ottawa, then decided to try the beach house for dinner since it was a short walk from where we were and reviews were great! All I have to say is .....My number #1 rule when dining at a seafood house is "if the place smells like rotten fish when you walk in DO NOT EAT there! I understand a super soft scent of fish, but this is a hit your momma in the face smell! GROSS!!! My husband and I looked at each other, smiled, laughed a little and instead of getting a table we just went to the bar for a quick drink. We contemplated going to The Beach House or our favorite restaurant, BASH, just a few blocks away. We're glad we gave Beach House a try. Clam chowder was good. I got the tuna poke for my meal. Wow!!! We stopped in for date night and we're pleasantly surprised that it was half off a bottle of wine night! I struggled so bad with deciding on what to order because so many things sounded amazing. Our waitress was so kind and patient with me, answering all the questions I had. I settled on the shrimp & grits and my husband got the Al pastor pork shank. They both did not disappoint and were beyond delish! We also both got dessert and it was like heaven on a plate. We did the s'mores dessert and the brown butter cake. Mine was the s'mores one and I don't know if I have ever had a more delicious dessert! I drove an hour with my husband and our friends for my Birthday dinner celebration. We were greeted at the door by a red haired hostess (sorry I'm not good with names). She was very friendly and welcoming. We were seated immediately and greeted by our waitress in the same welcoming manner. We ordered lobster tails (amazingly good) halibut and Hawaiian walu (both prepared Caribbean style), bruschetta (best we have EVER had), oyster (delicious) and Brussels sprouts (sweet hot and delicious).
