The magic combo was when I still had mushroom soup and dipped the prime rib in the soup. Also the seasonal drink or drink of the week was a spicy watermelon margarita. It was just average and fell short of our expectations. I will say that service is excellent and the ambiance is nice and cozy. However, the food does not measure up in terms of quality and flavor. I had the filet and my husband had the prime rib. We both had Caesar salads and the pasta side dish. The best was the prime rib which is what they are known for, but the rest was just okay. How have I driven by 100 times and never stopped? The best steak I have ever eaten but let me back up. Get a reservation. They will only seat as many tables as they can offer exceptional service! If you aren't aware, this place is a rustic log cabin that was once a residence. The owners certainly have the ambiance of comfort, yet 5 star presentation. Beautiful inside and outside, loved the landscaping with the fire torches- had a gorgeous, romantic ambiance for sure! I was pretty dissapointed with my linguine pasta. It was practically flavorless and way overpriced for what it was- I didn't finish it because it just was so bland and the mushrooms didn't taste great. We were told to go here by a friend. It was last minute and it was our favorite stop while being in Eureka springs. When I tell you to order the mushroom soup, I AM TELLING YOU TO ORDER THE MUSHROOM SOUP. Wow I wanted to write home about it. I even asked for a cup to go. My boyfriend got the prime rib. A fine steakhouse with good quality food, stellar service (mostly) and a very unique and comfortable vibe. After finding this place on-line, we decided to take a detour south from our Branson visit and see some of the sites in Eureka Springs with a dinner reservation for Gaskins. The place is very unassuming from the outside but the main part is about 150 years old. The hostess could've been a little friendlier and seemed to be thrown for a loop when we asked for a different table by the window. But our server was very kind and attentive. We shared the house specialty - the prime rib - not because we were being frugal but because neither of us eats large portions of meat anymore. She ordered a dinner salad (very small but fresh) and a side and I shared my prime rib and baked potato. Both were cooked perfectly and we still took home some beef for another day. We were pretty full but I had to try their special dessert: chocolate bread pudding. We took it home and had it later and it was wonderful! I consider myself somewhat of a bread pudding aficionado and this was something entirely different and new. Worth ordering! There was a newspaper article on the wall talking about the new owners as of 2008 and just to show the ravages of inflation, the prime rib was listed in the article at $37.50. This was our second time here and the first experience was good. This time however, was not. We had reservations for 4 and requested one of the Back rooms. Not the lobby. After waiting for about 15 minutes past our reservation time we were seated in the lobby. I told the hostess we preferred any other room and she said sorry, they were too busy. We accepted the table and the door constantly opening made a cold blast of air every time. Also the windows were cold. So, in general, we needed to leave our coats on. What became most annoying is all the many people that came in after us and were seated in other rooms. There was never another table used in the "lobby" area. Not sure why everyone else's reservations were more important. We had ours a week in advance. The food and service were very average, Food was not hot enough. Overall we felt we were treated like second class citizens and for the price no way worth it. Sadly, I doubt we will return. read more

Exactly what we were hoping for. We arrived without a reservation on a Saturday evening in June, a little after 5pm. Although the parking lot was full, we were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. My companion was pleased they were playing Robert Johnson blues music. The music was at a very appropriate level: not too loud. The noise level at restaurants has become very important as we are older and my companion has hearing loss. The ambiance at Gaskins Cabin was excellent. We could hear each other without straining and could also enjoy the music on the loudspeaker. We ordered a glass of wine and a margarita along with the burrata as an appetizer. I had the mushroom soup and we both could not believe how delicious it was. For entrees, my companion had the prime rib and loaded baked potato. I had the salmon with long grain wild rice. These service could have been greatly improved. The food was very good. Ambience was fine. My experience went as follows: we had a party of seven and the hostess would not seat us together at a table and said we had to have two separate tables. There were four tables in the room and we had to sit catty corner from each other. When we asked the hostess if we could sit on the same side of the room, she said no due to number of customers per waitress. Then, I wanted a salad with steak on top. The waitress told me she could accommodate that, but never told me how much it was going to cost. When I received my bill, they charged me for a full steak dinner. I asked the waitress why I was charged that amount, she brought the hostess over, who explained that I received a larger than normal salad, and therefore did not get the baked potato that would've been included with the steak dinner. I would've liked to have known that I was gonna be charged for a full dinner, but nothing was ever said until the bill came. read more

Had a great evening celebrating our anniversary. My husband loves prime rib, so that's what we came here to enjoy. It was cooked perfectly medium-rare. The au jus was hot, which was perfect to dip a bite of meat. The horseradish sauce was incredible. I usually skip the horseradish sauce but not this time. The lemon drop martini was fantastic. OK... so this is a must visit place and I took the advice of a friend... So.. you have to try the blue cheese dressing as it is chunky and awesome!.. The wife got the Caesar and it looks a bit runny... glad I grabbed the blue cheese.. but... The bread.. it is reallllly good.. served hot and fresh and when you put butter on it.. BE CAREFUL!!! it will fill you up. I HIGHLY suggest the prime rib... they cook it just right and the herbs are phenomenal on the outside. Now.. I am torn... you have to get the loaded potato, but one of our friends say to get the linguini...and it looked good.. but i am so glad i got the potato.. I wish i could say I saved room for the desert... but after the prime rib... oh no way.. . Unfortunately the wife was not a fan of the shrimp scampi, but the kid ate the whole plate of this salmon and some of my prime rib... When we arrived, I wondered if we had made a mistake. The front door takes you inside to the bar and a few plain wooden tables. I was a bit dressed up because we were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. It was weird. We were called to our table and it was a much better atmosphere. A pretty dining room. Food is excellent! We always get the prime rib. Is always cooked to perfection. The salad's are so good. Service is good. We have been going there for several years on special occasions birthday, anniversary. The only downside last night was our food came way early while we were eating our luscious salads. That has never happened before. Waitress was polite but did not seem concerned about our coming out until we were finished with our salad. My husband was not pleased and said so. She promptly left the food on the serving tray and walked out of our area. We also had another couple with us. There was no where to put the food! The manager came to apologize and they did give us a free dessert. Like I said usually the waiter waits until salads are done and then brings the meal. Therefore we will need to ask that we get to finish our salads and then get our meal. Something we never had to do before. read more

The Burgundy Mushroom Soup was superb - so good I could've just drank it; the homemade ranch dressing on the spring mix salad was excellent; the bread was delicious. I had the New Orleans Debris and my husband had the Prime Rib with the Garlic Cream pasta, and we shared Grilled Asparagus and Chocolate Bread Pudding. Everything was absolutely stellar! Ambiance was lovely - a rustic 1860's cabin restored beautifully. The hostess was gracious, our server, Dawn was friendly and engaging, and I think it was the owner who also came by to check on us. A big grin whisks over my boyfriend's face every time we pull into Gaskins, knowing full well that he's about to do his annual conquest of the 18-oz slab of Prime Rib. Gaskins is a little cabin that houses a bar area and two intimate rooms for dining. Dim-lighting and creaky wooden floors (and the fact that it's a refurbished home) gives it a rustic feel. We called in on a Tuesday afternoon and was seated quickly upon arrival in the fireplace side of the house. Our server got us drinks and a warm bread bun. We started out with the Burgundy Mushroom Soup. It is hands-down one of the best soups I've ever had! So flavorful, creamy, and delightful. I ordered the Atlantic Salmon with Linguine and my bf ordered the 18-oz Prime Rib (cooked medium rare) with Long-Grain Wild Rice. Both proteins were cooked to perfection! The salmon was broiled with tarragon, tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers, and I could taste every one of the ingredients. The prime rib was soft like butter and was seasoned just enough to enjoy with the two sauces. Overall, it is pretty pricey, but the service, soup, and superior proteins are worth the drive into Eureka Springs for us. read more

So, yes, the food and the location were wonderful, but I've got to say by FAR the most outstanding part of the entire experience was the level of service! Our server was top shelf. You could tell she had been trained by the best. The level of service she provided was something generally only seen in downtown ultra high end major metro areas. I know you're going to say "y'all are weird", but Mom and I neither one ordered a steak. We did however get fed quite well. Mom had the chicken breast. Folks, I don't normally get all hot and bothered about a plain old chicken breast and rice, but this was literally the BEST chicken boobie EVER! I'm so glad Mom shared some of hers with me. I had shrimp in a white wine sauce on noodles, which was no slouch. We finished the night off with a key lime dessert that was soooo rich, but just shy of not being too rich. I recommend this place if you're in the area. Turns out after I told my husband where we ate, he and his father had stayed at that fishing lodge 40 years before!!! Obviously this place knows how to roll to stay in business that long...I'm assuming they're part of the same tribe that run the fishing camp? Anywho, give them a shot! read more

Has lost its luster. We loved Gaskins so much the first time we dined with them on a previous visit to Eureka Springs that we made a point to return on our next trip. We were less impressed that second time, but we hoped the magic would return on a third visit. Unfortunately, this was the worst yet. I'd made a reservation a couple months in advance. Yet, when we arrived, they weren't ready for us. We weren't really on a schedule so it was no problem to wait at the bar over cocktails, it's just annoying for a reservation to not be honored. The cocktails were overshaken and thus watered down. We requested to sit in our favorite room and said we would even wait a bit longer for it. However, the host sat us at the worst table in the restaurant- a small 2-top right next to the bathroom and kitchen. (The other 2-top tables were larger, so it seems this was wedged in for extra seating.) They would not let us move to other open tables. The service was very friendly, as always, but not especially great in terms of timing. Our salads came out quickly but then we waited 45 minutes for our entrees and had to keep asking if we could order more wine, etc rather than the server coming by to check on us. It's just a bummer considering how cute the place is and its history. We want to love it, but it's just not worth the inconsistency. Further, we found a couple new Eureka dinner spots that were off-the-charts awesome and decided we'll skip Gaskins for those the next time we come to town. read more
