Amazing food! We headed down after a fun Wild West Gunfight in downtown Cody advertised them as a sponsor of the nightly gunfight. The store could have used a few more employees, but who would think a Tuesday evening would have been so busy. The waitresses worked together to get things out to not just my table, but clearly all bustling about taking care of customers not just ignoring tables because they weren't theirs. They ran around with no time to clean tables before the next guest needed to be sat and with no hostess on for the night. And, there was this very sweet woman there that explained all sorts of things about the authenticity of the restaurant. The dessert was a terrific end to our visit and while I know it was from scratch; I think the best part was the schnitzel and beer. I don't usually give anyone top stars, but being that this is my second post, ever on Yelp and in the fun if a new Yelp account and being on vacation I decided I should review other terrific place we ate at while in Cody. But, I'm relaxing in the beautiful Yellowstone area and this food and experience by far exceeded tonight, even though the service here was slower, but the restaurant was much busier, too! Gasthaus Cardi will always hold a special place in my heart, it's the bar/restaurant my fiancé and I had our celebratory drink at after he purchased my engagement ring down the street. We clinked our giant German boot mugs together and gulped the night away. First off, I think their bar set up is awesome, you don't sit on a bar stool you swing on one. Yup, a swing for a chair. Yes it ma hard to juggle your butt on one once you've had a few, but it's fun to start with. The owner was very up close and personal, he provided a friendly banter and helped us pick out the special flavors. Unfortunately, we didn't eat any food but most meals on their way out looked good. I am personally not a fan of German food but I liked the outside seating that this restaurant provides that we decided to try it. The wait staff was very friendly and really added to our dining experience. My wife had the fish and said it was very good. I had the schnitzel and it was fine. It was the first Time that I had had schnitzel and I am kind of lukewarm about it. One of the side dishes was a dumpling that were fantastic. The fries are also very good and I am normally not someone who enjoys french fries. Prices were average for a restaurant in downtown Cody. read more

Great Place! Great Family! Great Food! This place has only been in town for about three years but they are great. Admittedly, I am a fan of German food. Frankly, you should be too. I have spoken with the owners a couple of times now. The wife is an immigrant from Germany and the husband is a retired soldier. A lot of their family works there, all the way down to their grandchildren. It is my understanding that all of the food is homemade, and it tastes it. When it is busy there, it can get a little hectic, but I like to sit on the patio during the evening and relax. Also they have a bar where the seats are all swings... it is the craziest. Prices are comparable to other places in town, but you get way more food. I highly recommend this place. read more

We went to Gasthaus for lunch. Service was awful! Young lady who served us did not know the menu, could not recommend anything without pork, I ended up having chicken sandwich and chicken was good, beats salad was not bad, beer worth trying (we got samples). Avoid gnocchi! read more

Terrible service. We waited 15min for an acknowledgment from the staff after being seated and never got it. Servers were standing around talking as if they were bored. Those who were working kept walking by and refusing to make eye contact with us. After waiting we got up and turned our menus back in and explained the situation to the hostess and revived nothing but a blank stare from the hostess. Also very expensive. read more

We had a fine, very authentic, good-tasting German meal. We had a goulash plate (home-made spaetzle and a wonderful rich paprika sauce) and the samples plate (excellent bratwurst, red cabbage, and spaetzle. Good, but not great schnitzel.) According to the other reviews we were sceptical. We are glad we did not take heed. The food was great. Where to start? My daughter had the bratwurst and pretzel. She loved them. Being the pickiest eater of the bunch this is high praise. The pretzel was one of the best I have ever tasted, if not the best! My wife had the bratwurst plate with potatoe dumplings and red cabbage and cleared her plate. I had the schnitzel and spaetzel with potatoes dumplings. (My grandmother would beat me with a shoe for saying this but theirs is better than hers.) We went during the off season so the restaurant was not busy but the service was very attentive. New favorite place in Cody. All the staff was friendly and helpful. We were served at the bar by one of the owners who was incredibly personable and friendly. Explained everything they had to offer and anything we could have asked. Had a delicious dessert and a couple drinks. We will definitely be coming back for a main course. Great Family owned restaurant in Cody I recommend coming here. The service was excellent and the food was great we tried three different appetizers and all got a different type of schnitzel and were very pleased with the quantity and quality of the food. It was very fresh and came out in a timely manner. Chuck and Cardi were great people we had a conversation about their history and the influence it had on the restaurant. Loved loved this little German Restaurant, what a rare find in this western town. We just came across that walking up the street as we were visiting Cody before entering Yellowstone. Of course some of the German dissent, but I found the food to be absolutely delicious. I am gluten-free, so didn't try the pretzels, but saw them being brought out to the table beside us, they looked absolutely amazing.My husband ordered the pork schnitzel, and I got the card, both were absolutely amazing. Great food and wonderful service. We have never had German food so all I can say is we loved everything we tried (don't be afraid to be adventurous it's worth it). Also, the chicken pot pie soup was AMAZING!! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is we found it a bit pricey for a family of 4. Not enough to keep us away but enough to make it only an occasional treat. As a local I am so glad to have another choice of where to eat. read more

I was very excited to come across German restaurant in our trip as I live German food and the restaurant advertised cooked from scratch food from ingredients delivered from Germany. However, the food was just Ok, didn't worth $25 a plate for a wineshnitzel dinner. The shitzel itself was a bit rough and the warm potatoes salad tasted horrible. Red cabbage and the spaetzel pasta was good. Really a 3 star place. One huge fault with this restaurant and the reason I would not go back, even for a beer - the big tall waitress who stood in the door between the kitchen and the cash register ( as I was paying my bill ) who decided to completely disregard other people and their safety and had a huge sneeze without covering her mouth ( she was way less than 6 feet away from me, the hostess and another waitress ). She didn't have any mask on and even without COVID, it would be disgusting, and completely careless. If I had experienced that before I had my ordered my dinner, I would have walked out of the restaurant right away. If she was sick or just had allergies, she should have worn a mask or at the very least covered her mouth and nose and turned away, when she felt like sneezing rather than sneezing on top of everyone around her. read more

Great service and we liked the environment but please let me offer a couple suggestions...too much breading on the schnitzel and you fried it too long. Try using egg and panko breadcrumbs instead of flour. Lastly, consider pounding your meat more so it's thinner. Decent selection of German beers and if you're unsure of which you want they will provide samples. Yum. read more

Some of the worst service we ever had. We were seated, but then not one, but 3 different people said they would take care of us. One of the staff, finally took our order. Would never recommend and will continue telling my ultimate WORST dining experience and treatment. My family came to this restaurant with 7 of us, and we got three pretzels, 3 chicken cordon bleu, and a salad. (over $140) I noticed that the chicken cordon bleu tasted weird and the texture was gross. I looked to notice it was COMPLETELY RAW. Then my other 2 companions looked at theirs, and it was raw as well. When the owner came over we expressed that it was raw and she tried to claim it was the ham, and so I had to directly point to the raw chicken and show her. (I mean come on, who the heck doesn't know what raw chicken looks like, and to question a customer on 3 of them being RAW?) Then she said she would take it off our meal, and it never happened. The waiter at the end of our meal was a male, whose underwear was hanging out of his pants and his pants were hanging very low (very unprofessional) said he talked to the owner in the back and she said we would get a small percentage off of 20%. We should have had those cordon blues for free because we couldn't even freakin eat them, and then for the owner herself to tell us to our face we would get them for free, and then go hide and tell the waiter to only give us a percentage off, tells you enough. Not to mention over $20 for FROZEN cordon bleu? and raw? give me a break. My next complaint was the staff and horrible service. I already mentioned the male waiter that had his pants hanging super low, with his underwear showing. He also had what seem to be his girlfriend following him around and sitting on her phone when he would wait tables, and then they would come back and have a conversation, and it wasn't a worker because she left after she realized he was WORKING and needed to pay attention. Not only that, but there were three different waiters we had that night and they had no idea what was going on. They were all not on the same page, and we would ask for another beer and then one waiter showed up with one and another one came with one we did not ask for. It was very unorganized and brought us extra stuff we did not ask for nor need. Then STILL charged us for their mistake. I have eaten at many places in Cody, and I am always excited and open to supporting businesses. This is the first bad and worst review I have ever had to write and looking at the previous ones, the chicken cordon bleu still remains raw apparently. Don't waste your money here. read more

This restaurant is amazing! It was such a refreshing change of pace from the standard steakhouses in town. The food was outstanding and the service was even better. We didn't have one empty plate left after dinner was over and we even tried 3 of the 4 deserts. Our waiter even brought out a bowl of applesauce for our 13 month old daughter before we even had a chance to open the menu. Two thumbs up for all parents!! I spent 70 dollars here and only ordered one appetizer, and two meals. It was my mothers birthday and I wanted to take her out, we had never been here so we decided to try it. We both got a schnitzel and a bowl of what they called "fresh" fruit.
