Gastro Health is receiving a well deserved one star rating because they lied to me and stubbornly refuse to correct their mistake. Prior to having a procedure done with Gastro Health, I received a phone call saying the procedure would cost me something like $1,700. I asked why insurance wasn't covering it and the representative told me it was due to how it was coded for insurance. I informed her I wouldn't come in to have the procedure done if that couldn't be changed. She said she'd check on that and let me know. She called me back later that afternoon and told me they would update the coding of the procedure and insurance would cover it. The only purpose of that call was to confirm they could do that for me. There was nothing ambiguous about it - no gray area. She told me what they would do to induce me to come in for the procedure. I came in an had the procedure done. No issues with that. Shortly thereafter, I received an invoice for the approx $1700. They obviously didn't do what they told me would be done. I've contacted them no fewer than 5 times requesting they correct the problem. To date, nothing has been corrected. They will receive exactly $0 from me until they correct their mistake but it's going on 6 months and they've done nothing. Think twice about dealing with these clowns. read more

On the morning of a procedure, my 72 year old mother woke up with a 102 degree fever. Two days later, she was diagnosed with the flu. She tried calling three times to let Gastro Health she couldn't come, and she couldn't reach anyone on the morning of the procedure. No one ever answered, so she called back once she was better and told them she had the flu. She also supplied documentation. Even so, Gastro Health Reston charged her a $200 no show fee and threatened pursuing collections "for not giving 24 hours notice." When asked if she should've come to the hospital with flu A, she was told she should give 24 hours notice, even when she wasn't sick far enough in advance. She paid the charge to avoid collections, but never again!! read more

Stay away from Gastro Health. These people are scam artists. I called to schedule a colonoscopy with Garone. When I did, they said they had appointments times and possibly some in the month of March. They told me I first needed to come into there office and see one of their PA's which I did. After coming in and seeing their PA I was sent to their scheduler and scheduled a colonoscopy only to find out they scheduled me with Habib and not Garone which they never mentioned to me. If you ever schedule a procedure with them which I highly suggest you don't before you schedule with them get it in writing who the appointment is with. read more

It's been literally 5 months since consultation that I am awaiting for a colonoscopy... pretty certain this is not normal. My insurance is a well known agency and I even questions their practice as I was seen early July 2025 as my Primary Doctor referred me to them. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with my experience here. During my short time with the PA, I had to repeat a bunch of answers that I had already filled out in the online questionnaire AND the pre-appointment call because the PA didn't read the case files before seeing me. I drove an hour each way and this visit yielded nothing. She just told me what I already knew about my pain and discomfort and prescribed me a medicine for IBS (with increased side effects of inflaming the colon, the suspected issue) when I have no IBS symptoms. I was told we'd be able to do testing (e.g. CT scan) but no, that has to be done elsewhere, another day. I feel totally deflated by my experience here and I'm still no closer to finding out what's going wrong in my abdominal/pelvic area. read more

I scheduled a virtual visit with Dr. Noguera for 3/26/25 since I started a new job and do not have any leave time accrued. I checked in with the nurse 10 min prior to my appointment and was told to wait to be contacted by phone. I waited outside for 45 min and I did not receive any contact. I called the office and they told me that the doctor was having technical difficulties and would be on the phone with me shortly. About 5 min later, the nurse informed me that the doctor cannot take the call and I would have to reschedule. I was disappointed to say the least since my time is extremely valuable to me. If I had missed the appointment, then they would have billed me for the office visit. What happens when a doctor misses an appointment with his patient? Not even an apology or a call from the doctor explaining the circumstances. Unacceptable! Btw - I had a separate virtual appointment with a PA weeks prior and we had technical difficulties so the PA just called me on the phone for the appointment. There is absolutely no excuse for what happened today and I will not be returning to this practice. read more

They have changed their name from The GI Group so we had no idea it was the same practice I dealt with years ago until it was too late. Dr. Axelrad was extremely rude to her, dismissed her symptoms, and didn't believe her stated medical history. This practice has become very difficult to deal with. The billing department at this practice is a nightmare. Once this practice was sold to "GastroHealth," the billing has been impossible. When I complained to Dr. Wolke about the billing, she suggested I contact the office manager. I have left countless messages with the office manager. She has never called me back to discuss reconciliation of my account since I cannot seem to reconcile what my insurance EOB is stating against my bills from Gastro Health. I have called the general Gastro Health billing department, which is a huge company having locations in many states, to discuss the balance due on my account to no avail. The Gastro Health customer service is made up of people in some foreign country who can barely speak English. The other issue is that the billing statements do not reconcile with the insurance EOB making it difficult to determine what I truly owe. Complete incompetency! After being very patient, I have decided to leave the practice. read more

So far, so good! I went and saw the PA today at this new practice for me. I'm due for a colonoscopy as it has been five years, and I've had some complications. I did research and found this seemed to be the best practice after checking around. I was trying to get my colonoscopy before the end of the year for personal reasons. They found a cancellation in the schedule a week and a day after I was in the office at the local Surgery Center. Outstanding that they were able to get me in and get this procedure done quickly. I was expecting to have to wait 3-4 months and that just wasn't the case. That may not be your experience, but it certainly was mine and they were willing to work with me. I also had labs when I was in the office. They came back the next day and the PA who I saw (Frances Adams) contacted me immediately to discuss the results and her thoughts on the findings. She wants me to get an endoscopy in addition to the colonoscopy. I'm waiting for the office to contact me to get that scheduled. I have had a wonderful experience here thus far and am surprised by so many poor reviews. I've been to a lot of poor practices in my lifetime, but they certainly aren't. You do have to wait on hold a fair amount when calling, but that's to be expected. Highly recommend this practice if you need a GI doctor or a GI procedure. read more

Good luck getting anyone there to answer a simple question. I'm FINALLY scheduled for a colonoscopy (that took forever) but I'm probably going to cancel because for the past month+ I have been emailing, sending messages through the patient portal and calling trying to get some basic information for my insurance company and I CANNOT get it. I am put on hold and forgotten, told that they don't have the info, given incorrect, out of date contact phone numbers - it's ridiculous. All I want is to give the billing info to my insurance company before the procedure to confirm that they will cover (or that they won't) the procedure, and if the various people that will be sending me bills are accepted by my insurance. I need a real phone number and a tax ID and NPI for the group providing the anesthesia ("Old Dominion") and no one has any idea what I am talking about. NO ONE. They supposedly work with this company multiple times a week on a regular basis but no one can give me the correct information about them. They either can't or wont give me their contact information. Either the phone number they give me redirects me back to Gastro Health (oh look, I get to sit on hold again) or it's to a group out in Colorado that no longer is associated with them - and the contact # they have is... you guessed it... Gastro Health. Is this some sort of scam? If this is what it is like trying to get a simple question answered I can't imagine the absolute nightmare it would be if there was any sort of billing problem. If I can't get anyone to respond to me today about this (I'm on my 4th call today and this one is at 27+ minutes on hold and counting) I'm giving up, canceling, and going somewhere else. The docs here might be great but you have to wade through this endless circle of phone operators who can only read their script. Note that I was also charged $400 for a maybe 10 minute zoom call to confirm that I was a candidate for a routine screening even though it had already been ordered by my primary care. EDIT: Go read the reviews for the other Gastro locations here on Yelp, Old Dominion Anesthesia sounds like an insurance scam. They are NOT in-network and perhaps owned by the doctors? Outrageously high bills from them that are NOT covered by any insurance. Google them for billing horror stories on Reddit and Fairfax Underground. I started the process of getting my scheduled colonoscopy in December 2022. I finally was able to get a consultation for a zoom call in February. This was literally a five minute call with the doctor who basically asked how I was. Next thing I'm getting a bill for $600.00 for that zoom call and then you hear from them CONSTANTLY if you have not paid within two minutes. During my zoom call we scheduled the colonoscopy for the end of June. This is in February. During a trip with my husband I fractured my knee. Emergency trip home, and major surgery last week to repair it. My colonoscopy was scheduled for Friday this week. I called to reschedule my colonoscopy due to not wanting my leg flung around while I'm under anesthesia. They wanted to schedule a whole new 5 minute zoom call for $600 to reschedule. Some stupid office policy and something about needing to be sure I'm okay for anesthesiology. I said that I had just had it a week ago due to my knee. The response was that it wasn't with them. I complained that it took this long to get my scheduled colonoscopy because of them and that I wasn't going to be charged due to their scheduling practices. The scheduling person, Madison, also acted like I was given special treatment because she didn't charge me for cancelling! I was literally within their time limit of cancelling, but even so I was calling to RESCHEDULE! She reiterated how good they were to not charge me for cancelling. I could not believe it. Based on the reviews I'm reading, I'm not the only one who has had a terrible experience. This place is a complete joke. They got the $600 from me but will never get my business again. Wanted to post a big thumbs down for Gastro Health in Reston. We needed to reschedule my wife's colonoscopy after she received emergency knee surgery. In order to reschedule, they require another "consult" (a 5 minute zoom call) with the doctor that basically asks how she's doing. Last time this cost almost $1000. This is a "standard office policy" that no one knows who created it, but it can't be waived. What a ripoff! read more

The only professional aspect of this business is the Doctors doing their procedures. But forget abut any follow-ups, questions, email returns, nothing. You will have to book another appointment for any info. Here is the kicker- no appointment is available for 4-6 weeks!!!! OR longer for a visit when you just have quick questions for serious issues. Here is what you do- get to a NP. They are the heart of the practice. They do everything but procedures. However, even they tend to be at least a few days to a week out, or longer. SO demand to speak to the head nurse or concierge nurse, whatever the different titles they have......they are able to help you out!!! The schedulers are too busy to help. I drove my wife to her colonoscopy late last year and while waiting tried to make an appointment for myself. Was told I need to have a consultation session with them first. I said this is a routine check recommended by my PCP, but was told the consultation must happen. So a virtual session was scheduled. Well, the "session" lasted not even 10 minutes. Essentially the only question the doctor asked is "Is there a related diagnosis or this is routine/preventative"... Before that I had to wait in the Zoom lobby for 20 minutes before I was kicked out. I just received a bill for $244.61 for it. Unbelievable! This is actually a doctor with pretty good reviews and recommend by a friend. Leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. My wife wasn't expecting the amount they billed her and after several calls they admitted they billed her something that we paid at the facility the day of the procedure again. Let The Patient Beware We've been going to Gastro Health (or its predecessor) for over 20 years. Initially, our experience was excellent, with knowledgeable and compassionate care, especially from one doctor who took the time to explain our gastro/intestinal issues. However, in the past couple of months, our experience has significantly declined. In late April 2024, after a heart procedure at Medstar Health in DC, I developed severe gastro/intestinal problems. Medstar advised taking an enema and possibly an ER visit if it didn't help and so we did go to the ER that night. They suggested the issues were likely due to anesthesia and recommended follow-up with our GI doctor as did Medstar Health. In early May, we contacted Gastro Health, but our long-time doctor was unavailable. We saw a PA who gave advice similar to the hospital's, but my symptoms persisted. Despite worsening symptoms and multiple calls, we couldn't get an in-person appointment with our doctor. Over the weekend, the on-call doctor gave different advice, leading to another ER visit. Our doctor called as we were leaving for the second visit to the ER and did call the following day but we were in the middle of a cardiology appointment and he never followed up as promised, despite pleading with him for an in-person visit. A third ER visit happened in late May due to fainting and a vagal reaction in the middle of the night which warranted a 911 call that was due to a combination of the stress from gastro issues and blood flow. To complicate matters, when my wife came in to revive me, she fell trying to help me and hit her head on the bathtub causing her to suffer a concussion but was still able to call 911 thankfully. We finally got an in-person appointment with another doctor in the practice due to a compassionate nurse, Becky, who listened to our story and made it happen. He suggested a colonoscopy prep, which helped temporarily. However, he too failed to follow up as promised. A fourth ER visit occurred at the end of June. We still haven't heard back from Gastro Health, after placing our last call to their office in mid-June and here it is July 15. And, after every ER visit, they strongly recommended to follow-up with our GI doctor. I'm not sure what has changed at this practice--perhaps they've grown too big or rely too much on PAs. This has been the worst medical experience in my 72 years. read more

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this practice! The doctors, nurses and PAs are professional and take the time to listen to me. The practice had a bit of logistical issues when it merged with GastroHealth (all the decent groups are now together as GastroHealth) but the providers themselves have been together for years. It was tricky to get in last year and the phone system was challenging but they actually added a third procedure room a few months ago to catch up with the back log of patients needing colonoscopies or endoscopies. The facility is beautiful. I have my colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and the service was amazing. The anesthesia was perfect, administered by a CRNA who was friendly, competent, and very professional. She respected my privacy and made sure I was warm and positioned comfortably. Will jerk you around till you're almost dying of pain no apology and then reward you by denying to help you with your Disability from work. I finally got help for the pain, not from them obviously, I was sent to my primary.. This has been going on sine July 14th!! It's still going on. Now my Short term Disability is asking what took them so long? Gastro Health took that long to help me.. When I read the comment about Dr Patel, I agree she was awesome way back then, but now I can't even recognize her. read more

Have seen 2 doctors, 2 NP and one tele health... colonoscopy upper endoscopy how the hell can all of these people and all of these visits miss a hiatal hernia... it's because they don't care. If your are over 62 they ignore you. Actually had to go to the ER with an emergency in early November. ER doctor was told I couldn't get an appointment until March or April of next year. She was able to get me in to see the doctor of my choice earlier than expected and even put me on the waitlist for an earlier appointment because she knew how much pain I am in. The first appointment that was made in late 2021, when I called to confirm was told it was never in their schedule books. I rescheduled for a date 3 months after that, which would have been 5/12 and was called yesterday (5/5/) and told they don't accept my insurance. Completely difficult to work with patient outreach and interfaces are poorly designed and operationally deficient. Difficult to get care. I was shocked to find out that my insurance was billed $542 for an office visit (not even with a doctor. I met with a PA and did not get to talk to my doctor until the day of endoscopy). When I requested an itemized bill, they claimed it was just for the office visit. Is this some kind of joke? $542 for an office visit? What's more, I visited this hospital initially for a stomach issue (acid reflux), yet the possibility of pregnancy was only mentioned moments before undergoing anesthesia for an endoscopy when they asked me to sign a bunch of forms including opt-out pregnancy test form. I hadn't ingested anything for over 8 hours, let alone liquids, for a endoscopy, so obviously I couldn't go through pregnancy test at that moment.Shouldn't this have been discussed during the initial visit? As it turned out, my symptoms were indeed due to pregnancy. PA did not mention anything about pregnancy during the initial visit. It seems they only address concerns if prompted by the patient. Most inaccessible, inefficient office staff in any medical practice (nay, any organization medical or otherwise) I've ever dealt with. They were great before they were bought out by Gastro Health (which is based in Miami, Florida). Scheduling is a nightmare. Reaching staff by phone about billing/insurance questions or any question for that matter is a nightmare. Their patient portal is a mess. It took 6 mos. to get an app't for a colonoscopy. I plan to follow through and then reassess whether I'll continue with them or change providers. This is a routine screening; I shudder to think how awful such inaccessibility would be for patients who are undergoing treatment. read more

Update- I was diagnosed with UC. So obviously there was a serious issue. The only reason I added a star is for the only two staff members who took me seriously. However, when I finally received my colonoscopy that ended in my diagnosis, I had to chase them down for the result definition as they only told me I had UC when I was heavily sedated still from the colonoscopy. My partner called the facility a bunch after my procedure and asked that someone tell her how to take care of me and they swore they would send a nurse out with me to discuss and ended up just sticking me half asleep on a wheelchair and dropping me at the car and not talking to her at all, knowing this was the first time I had ever had the procedure. This is added but is partially a fault of the surgery center they had me go to, just fyi. read more

This practice is focused on money not care. No individualized care: You are given a general little photocopy with the suggested treatment for your issue, as if there were a universal remedy for all patients. No sympathy for people in severe distress, discomfort, pain: I called once experiencing severe symptoms and was told "Either it's your usual condition, or you'll end up in the hospital in a few hours" It's hard to contact them. They bill above contracted rates and push for colonoscopies, which the insurance then won't cover because they'll be sure not to give it a preventive code when they bill it. read more

Setting up the appointment and the procedure itself went very well. I did my due diligence and made sure all the doctors were in-network. However, the billing portion for the anesthesia was terrible and the main cause of my aggravation and less than stellar experience. First, they input my insurance information incorrectly, so I received a bill for $3500. I called Restesia LLC a total of five times and it took four months to finalize the billing. Apparently other anesthesia groups across the US use the same billing company with a toll free number of 877-822-6205. They kept sending me letters instead of actually billing statements. I refuse to give any payment over the phone not knowing if they were legit. read more

Horrible experience! They only care about getting you in for testing so they can bill your insurance. Want someone to go over your results with you....yea that's not going to happen. Would you like a call back after your procedure to discuss next steps...yea that's not going to happen either. Want to simply pay your bill over the phone...don't count on making that happen either. Completely unorganized from billing to the medical staff. If you need to reach them by phone for any reason...Good Luck. If you truly care about your health I implore you to find another practice. I cannot believe I even bother coming back to this practice. Years ago I thanked a doctor in the practice for helping me to realize that even though I thought I had hit rock bottom by the time I came to see her, her "treatment plan" made me even worse! See! It could be worse! Years later I ventured back to the practice and met with a different doctor. Had a good experience and at least was partly on my way back to better health. Fast forward to last month, had an appointment and they suggested I get a specific test done which would require an at home test to be mailed to me in 2-3 weeks. At the 3 1/2 week mark I called to see where the test was and was told they would try to make arrangements for me to come pick it up since it had not arrived but that I would be receiving a call. Today, 4 weeks post appointment I called AGAIN and had to leave a message with a nurse to see what next steps might be. I'm thinking they just cannot handle their patient flow and that I need to look at another practice (as if this new Gastro Health hasn't already gobbled up every other smaller practice out there)?! read more

I hope someone in this practice sees this review. In the last few months, when the switched to Gastro Health, their office staff is not answering their phones. I have been calling for 2 days now (11/17/21 and 11/18/21). One time I got an automated message "There is no CO line. returning you". One time I was on hold for 6 mins. Another time 5 mins. Another time, i got the answering service and was told they are not answering phones due to "High volume". That's code for "we don't have anyone answering the phones" The doctors are great, but if you can't make an appointment, what good are good doctors? read more
