Tried this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. I had heard good things about this spot from other reviewers. This restaurant is easy to get too, has adequate parking and the restaurant itself is casual and inviting. The staff welcomed us and were very friendly and attentive. Our young waiter was especially helpful with the menu. The food came quickly and was good. Unfortunately, not great. My wife and I both got the trio of meats, brisket, pulled pork and chicken. All were cooked well but under smoked for my liking. The sides we tried were all fresh but again, just good not great. We will try Gastropit again but honestly have had better tasting barbecue at nearby competitors. I know it is relatively new to the scene so overall, it was a good experience! read more

I ordered a half of slab of ribs and I chose green beans as my side and the meal comes with cornbread. I can tell by the size of the ribs these were not baby back ribs but traditional pork spareribs. The ribs were tender which is crucial for ribs. I like it when ribs are cooked the last 30 minutes with bbq sauce which gives the ribs more flavor. These were not cooked this way and is why they give you eight sauces to use. I tried their Sweet, Carolina, Memphis and Jalapeño Carolina. I think the Jalapeños Carolina was the best of what I tried. The green beans tasted like they were cooked on the grill then seasoned. They tasted good. The corn bread was the right consistency and tasted good. I received excellent service. We like BBQ and this was a new place near us we had never tried. We went around dinner time and it was somewhat busy as they do a Sip and Sale event every so often where local vendors can sell their stuff. The bartender greeted us and a server escorted us to a table. The table hadn't been wiped down yet from previous customers se we had to wait for that, then before things dried they placed the menus on the wet table. There were no napkins so we had to make sure we didn't get the table wipe down on us. A different person came and took our drink order. Then a few moments later the server who seated us came and asked for our drink order. I guess they don't assign tables? We ordered the drinks then watched the server seat other tables, take orders, bring out food, then stop by to say she was still in the process of getting our drinks. We got them then ordered. The food didn't take that long to come out and it was brought by a runner. But then we had to wait for silverware and napkins. It all looked good but my wife and I both independently said the meats seemed really dried out. My issue was the none of the tacos really stood out as far as flavor differences. Though some had sauce, some had corn and other stuff, and one had cheese and onions they all seemed more or less the same. We finished, or I should say I finished. My wife left part of her sandwich and most of her Mac and Cheese. While the servers were polite, and the place seemed be hopping, I doubt we will return. read more

When traveling, I love eating at local establishments curated from Yelp. Gastropit was exceptional in the areas that matter, food quality and service. I had smoked wings (awesome), a pulled pork sandwich, and a sampler of burnt ends. All were excellent, but the wings were in a league of their own. The restaurant's interior is simple, but it just feels good to be there in short order. I sat at the bar, and my bartender/server gave outstanding recommendations (they were spot on). Quick checklist type review: It's sit down table service, not order from a counter. So that's nice and relaxing, but add the price of a tip to your meal. Burnt ends were delicious, tender, could have been a little more "burnty", has a tasty "Asian-style bbq sauce" (think bbq w/teriyaki notes). Potato salad was top notch. Note that they don't peel the potatoes, which I kinda like. Pit beans were good, but not very "pitty" in my opinion. I like to really feel the drippings in there, not just find bits of meat. Brisket tacos were excellent. If you don't like jalapenos (me), just pick of the two slices that sit on top. If you like jalapenos, you might be a bit disappointed that there are just two raw slices sitting on top. Cornbread was dense and moist, and good. Limit beer selection Happy Hour price. We ordered 2 tacod each and both agreed that ship tacos was the best. My chicken taco and my husband's pork taco, were both dry. We wanted to eat outside on the patio but they were working on sprucing it up at the end of the season. We eat inside inside. Located on Manchester, this place is in a small strip mall and the size is definitely smaller than I imagined it would be. The space offers bar seating and a few tables that can accommodate more than 5 followed by several 4 tops and a few 2 tops. Friendly service and food came out fast. Loaded Fries, wow it's huge! Easily can feed 4 people. Flavors were great and the cheese sauce had a nice richness to it along with the crispy fries. Avocado Turkey sando was great! Luved the toasted bread and the aioli had a nice balance. I added bacon to mine! Reason for the 4... the Mac n Cheese. It was just OK. Just left Gastropit after a wonderful dinner. Crowded on a Saturday night, but after their expansion, they have a good amount of tables, not much of a wait for my party of 4. Excellent beer selection. As for the food, don't sleep on their tacos. Pulled pork, brisket, chicken, bbq shrimp and portobello mushroom tacos. Mexican street taco style. A four pack is very filling and they come with homemade tortilla chips and salsa. Try the burnt ends when you can. Food comes out quickly and the staff is friendly. The staff was gracious enough to hold our food until we got to their new location eventhough they were closed. We really appreciate their costumer service. I ordered their burnt ends, mac&cheese and a side of corn bread. This is my to-go bbq order, I wasn't as impressed like I was in the past. My burnt end was not really juicy, it was dry and so was my mac&cheese. The corn bread was decent, and I realised we got no butter or maybe they don't normally give butter? I have had positive food experience in the gastropit while they were still stationed in STL. I went with some friends in the past, their bbq was great and so were their drinks. We visited the Gastropit for the first time yesterday and it didn't disappoint. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu - they can provide recommendations & suggestions based on you taste profiles with ease. It was early so we sat at the bar to engage with the staff and ask about different items and learn more about Gastropit. We opted for the Brisket Burnt ends with green beans & corn bread to share to get started. The brisket fell apart beautifully when touched with a fork, the flavors were fantastic and, if the Asian-style BBQ sauce is not your speed, there are 6 other options available to try as well (really enjoyed the jalapeño Carolina!). We also ordered a taco each to enjoy. I went with the pork taco which had meat a plenty and it was fantastic. Very flavorful and in no way dry at all. The pickled onion, fresh red radish slaw & chipotle aioli where great compliments to the well cooked pork. Still, we thought we'd give this place a shot as you can never judge a book by its cover. The venue is clean with plenty of seating and the staff are friendly and personable. We watched a few regulars walk in and out, always a good sign. Unfortunately, the food is nothing like what was served as JS Gastropit. It was obvious that the ribs were reheated as the coloring was off and smoke ring wasn't as prominent as it used to be. It was dry and lacked good flavor and the sides were no better. I ordered the brisket burger thinking there would be a pile of pulled brisket on the bun. Nope, just a normal ground up patty (apparently a lot of people make this mistake while reading the menu), so I was pretty disappointed from the start. Burger was ok, definitely not worth the $13 we paid. Although the food is about a solid 2 stars, the hospitality made up for it so I'm giving this place a generous 3. I really love this place and the food is great! My pulled pork was so good I liked the Smokiness of the pork tender and soft, tangy slaw and a few jalapeños to add a little hit but not overwhelming the flavor of the meat and I equally enjoyed that crunch of the slaw. The fries had a crispy texture and a fantastic spice I like ketchup with fries but these ones didn't need it. The staff there was so nice and really helpful. Beer selection has great variety and something for everyone. The Patio adds a nice touch to the indoor dining space and would definitely love to come during warm weather to enjoy that. New BBQ place moved into the old PM BBQ location in Ellisville. First, I love what they've done with the place. Great interior. So much more comfortable and inviting. Looks similar but better Now, the food! It's really good. Had burnt ends. They're softer than I've had in other places (but no gristle). Great flavor too. I didn't care for the sauce they were cooked in but no problem. 7 or 8 great sauces on the table (jalapeño Carolina was my fave). Also had a pork taco (they do tacos a la carte) it was very good. I saw some impressive sandwiches coming out. The Cuban will be my next choice! Friendly staff too. Drawback, it was too quiet in there. No background music. So I set up a touchtunes acct to play some music on the machine. Bring some extra bills to provide your own music and the experience is great. Local Draft beer coming soon thru said too. Love this place! So unassuming but SO glad we noticed it and checked it out. Great spot for a low key dinner. TVs with games on, along with a bar you can sit at. There are tables available as well. Great staff that are so kind, and service is quick. Food is fanatic and price point is affordable. Something on the menu for everyone. There is beer on draft, also bottled. Love this place!! What an awesome addition to our crazy ole Manchester rd! My family and I came in for lunch after driving by plenty of times and saying we need to try Gastropit! The space itself is smaller and lowkey but the flavor of their food has nothing lowkey about it. SO GOOD! Pulled pork sandwich with slaw & candied jalapeños was incredible. They have tons of BBQ sauces at the table for your choosing! My mom got the tacos and loved each of them equally. The salsa was not spicy. The tortillas were corn and doubled like authentic tacos. It was a filling dish. They had a good variety of meats, sandwiches and a full bar. I liked all the tacos. Corn bread was good. Fries were fine. I got four sauces and all were decent. This was plenty of food, but did not feel like $25+ worth of takeout. BBQ tends to be expensive, yes. But my fave bbq at home is about the same price for $20 and every dish is an A+. So it pains me to say it, but come to Portland for better bbq than St Louis!
