Coming here for coffee is more like visiting a theme park created by the Kelvies of Pocatello. A memorable event begins with the supreme counter staff helping you navigate their menu and prepare the best coffee/espresso drinks (most important for me). The friendly staff and engaging owners make this a very unique and inviting cafe (a close second). The fantastic fresh Made-To-Order inventive sandwiches along with the decadent pastries (I admit, are equal to coffee), and then the bomb of never-ending discoveries in this fantastic gift 'emporium'--on top of that, they are ANIMAL FRIENDLY!! We saw some of the cutest pups, but only got pics of one. All of this flowing seamlessly together makes this place one of a kind. This is a fantastic breakfast brunch spot with a quiet and inviting atmosphere. The Cafe has a nostalgic feel, with comfy & cozy retro style seating and large solid wood tables scattered about a uniquely eclectic gift shop. The blackberry scone was exceptional, so we asked the counter staff about it. We were told that the baked treats--along with bread loaves that are sold to local establishments--are made by the owner's wife, Elaine Kelvie, downstairs in the bakery (baked goods available in the counter display case on main floor). She even took the time to go downstairs and alert her that we loved her baked creations, and would like to meet her. Elaine came upstairs and introduced herself to us, while we praised her for our delightful cinnamon roll and blackberry scone. The other owner, her husband Bill Kelvie, who had made my delicious roast beef and pepper jack on toasted rye, came out from the back and introduced himself to us. He told us a little bit about the other shop they own in the historic building, the neighboring Gate City Gift & Gallery. Get this--the owner who made our great food, his MOTHER works/runs that neighboring Gift & Gallery shop. These are wonderful friendly people. We marveled at the many curious gifts that surrounded us while we sat and enjoyed our food. After finishing our indulgent meals, we began rummaging through the never-ending discoveries. Fascinated by the unique treasures that constantly drew us to their other massive gift and antiques shop next door. There's some really cool canvasses by local artists hanging for sale in there. I could not even see it all because It's two stories, with some unique clinics consigning space on the second floor, and climbing the spiraling stairs to up, would be an exhausting adventure for me, but WE took pictures for you. Bill and Elaine are wonderful and very welcoming to everyone who enters. They keep food and drink preparation to the highest standards. Elaine prepares some wonderful pastries and Bill works the grill like a master. The smoothies and hot chocolate are delicious and I understand from friends the coffee is also. We stopped by here on our way to Yellowstone to grab some snacks before we headed back on the road. I was planning on ordering the pumpkin spice latte since it is fall, but switched to hot apple cider when I saw another customer ordering it. The hot apple cider was delicious and not too sweet. We also ordered a blueberry scone that was baked by the owner's wife Elaine. The scone was like no other scones I've tasted. This one was moist and soft. It tasted more like a soft baked blueberry cookie. I wish we had bought more than one! It was not very sweet and was such a nice afternoon treat! The owner Bill and his wife Elaine were very nice people. They opened this business earlier this year in June and did a beautiful job creating a cozy atmosphere for their customers to sit down and enjoy a beverage and treats. Was in town visiting family and was told to go to Gate City Coffee. What a gem!! Oh if only these old walls could talk as it's located in a historic downtown building with some of the original ceiling features. Giving it a beautiful ambience, making a person feel cozy while sitting in the leather chairs. Bill is a great host and took his time to get to know you. We had the French Dip sandwiches, highly recommend them, with a very fine glass of wine from Italy. The coffee was very good as well. When we're in town again will definitely go back. This is a great little hole in the wall that is bigger than you think. We were created the moment we walked in the door and it wasn't crazy busy so they had our coffee ready as fast as we paid! The coffee isn't too strong and the syrups were just the great amount! I nabbed the sausage sandwhich and it didn't let me down. I kinda wish it was a real biscuit but it wasn't too bad and my friend nabbed the cinnamon roll for desert and I had to smell it all day. Torturous! One of my favorite places here. Room for improvement I could only think about better parking options for out of town folks, but there is one space right around the corner. Overall I think it is a good and relaxed place to have a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich with friends. Sandwiches could be cheaper a bit , but I like the ambiance and just another not chain, but authentic place. Wish there was something similar in American Falls. We have Morning Wood Brew which is good and people are friendly, but their coffee tastes somewhat different. So overall I am very pleased with this place. read more

Friendly local coffee shop in the heart of old downtown. They drape open until the evening which is great. Charming vintage style decor, lots of comfy seating with plenty of outlets. I also enjoyed browsing their gift shop with a variety of cool locally made items. I was hoping for a snack bit they only have breakfast sandwiches and pastries at this time. I ordered the strawberry lemonade - it was good and refreshing for the summer day while shipping downtown. I'd totally visit again! read more

I visited for a third time recently and have to say I'm disappointed at how crowded the gift area has gotten. I hope it doesn't take away from the lovely coffee drinks and teas! Also...those low tables? They're horrible. Uncomfortable for any adult over 5'4" and the chairs do not slide on the rugs so getting up and down from one is an exercise in concentrated coordination. Perhaps the low tables exist to keep people moving through and leaving with their coffees--but, please rethink them. read more

Very nice and renovated cafe space. Latte was perfect and the atmosphere was good. The scones and cookies were made fresh in the morning. Fast internet and comfortable chairs. Welcoming to sit and work on the laptop. Location in old town is convenience. The opening times are also very good - 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. when I came. Good selection of coffee-related things to buy (mugs, tea makers, etc.) and also Pocatello-related knick-knack items. Friendly service, but probably the worst espresso I've ever had. My americano tasted metallic and over extracted. They charge an extra dollar for larger 20oz vs 12oz for an americano. The barista informed both drinks have two espresso shots. A dollar for additional water is outrageous and not the normal for coffee shops. read more

Was passing through Pocatello. Not impressed with Gate City. Ordered an Americano hot which was delivered sort of warm. Not bitter but lacked any real flavors. Kind of muddy. Not a good value. Must be better coffee places in Pocatello. read more

If I could leave less than one star for this review, I would. Passing through Pocatello and needed a cup of coffee, saw that this place was highly recommended so opted to leave the interstate to try out the coffee. Arrived about an hour before the posted closing time, asked for an Americano. The baristas were in the process of cleaning the machine and their body language was clear that this would be an imposition on their evening. Rather than press the issue I asked if they had a black drip coffee available...you know, the basic shit you would expect in a coffee shop. The again reluctantly indicated that they had already poured the coffee out for the night. While this place has potential, the staff are horrible and I would not recommend wasting time and/or resources on this place. Sadly, Starbucks is still the best option in Pocatello. read more

This is a great little coffee shop! The local decor is reminiscent of Old Town Pocatello. Stopped by when visiting relatives in Poky...super cute gifts and beverages. The Baristas where very helpful and friendly. Loved the unique drink selections like Gingerbread Hot Cocoa and Cinnamon Hot Cocoa. Will definitely stop by again for coffee. read more
