If I could go back in time I would not purchase from the gate depot. When ever there has been a problem related to the products they sold me they have always found a way to NOT cover it under warranty. Recently a photo eye failed for the second time. The first one failed after the one year warranty so that was the reason for not covering it but the second one failed within one year. This is a part attached to a post with the wire in a conduit. Josh stated it was abuse and not covered under warranty. I can guarantee you I was not abusing the photo eye and I believe it failed because it was just poor quality. If you buy from this company do not count on them covering anything under warranty. read more

I had a double gate (2 x 8 feet) installed in 2006; the gate was from gatedepot.com. They've worked flawlessly until recently. The bottom bearing on one of the gates failed. I contacted gatedepot.com to identify the part so I could order it. Josh Goessling identified the part and let me know that he could ship me a replacement...for free. This could have easily been a 4 or 5 star review. The gate itself is decent quality, but the customer service is not. I ordered a "hinge" side gate, had my concrete guy pick it up and put it in the ground. I then picked up my gate a week or so later. Went to install the gate and realized there was no holes to screw in the hinge hardware. Not the biggest deal in the world as I went out and bought the hardware needed to drill and "through bolt" the hinge brackets on. Was about 2-3 hours of labor and $60 in parts so I'm out around $180-200 ($21 gate price difference + $60 parts + ~$100 labor). So $200 isn't the end of the world. We were planning on buying a garden gate from them anyways so I called to see if we could make this all right. I had gotten a quote for a clearance gate a while ago for about $135 which is what anyone walking into the store would pay for that clearance gate. I gave Josh numerous opportunities over the phone and it would have been so easy to be like "Yeah I see we messed up and it cost you money to fix our mistake so I can comp you this $135 gate." Because, you know, failed actions has consequences. If Josh had gone that route I'd be writing a different review right now. Instead, what I got was "It's not my fault you didn't check the post for holes before you cemented it to the ground." True enough, I admitted as not doing QA on their failure to get an order of 1 post correct, my bad. Josh was totally within his right to not comp that gate. No one wants to lose money for their business but now instead of recommending people to gate depot I will let them know to avoid it. That $135 garden gate probably lost them more than they'll realize. That's how customer service works. read more

Wow! I've been waiting nearly a whole damn year to write this review!! I could not write a review without having completed my gate install job. I researched my gate project to find a company that had a nice quality gate that to put across my road. I did not want a wimpy Tractor Supply gate that is secured by a chain, but I wanted a BFG (Big Fine Gate) that causes will total any vehicle that tries to crash it. I wanted a barrier gate. Gate Depot was my choice because it had exactly what I wanted, a price that was affordable and it was reasonably close to Healdsburg. I also liked Gate Depot's website gave me lots of choices - and videos on how to install the gates myself if I wanted. I like to do things myself - so Gate Depot was my happy choice. When I went to pick up my barrier gate, I talked with the owner of the store. I explained what I wanted and how I was going to install it. I was unsure about how to attach the knox-box (http://www.knoxbox.com/) and he explained that I could use self-tapping metal screws, "No, wait...", he said. Then he returned with a little bag of those screws from his back room. I used those screws to attach my knox-box. (The knox-box is a secure rapid entry system used by fire and emergency for those times when the gate is locked.) When I explained about the wimpy hole I was going to dig for the supporting post, he set me straight. "Naw, you are going to need a 1 cubic yard hole." I gasped inwardly, but said, "Yeah, heh heh! I knew that... just kidding about the 12" hole." If I had set the post with "my" design, it would have been a disaster! Talk to them about all the details. Well, for many reasons, I didn't get around to digging that hole until last month - and then filled it up with 60 - 60 pound bags of cement mixed in a wheelbarrow. (I now feel immortal - that post will be there for a very long time.) The barrier gate has ball bearings top and bottom for a smooth and effortless open and close. The bearings are so fine that even the wind will move the gate arm. That gate arm must weigh 300 pounds, so that's a nice set of bearings! I am very pleased with my new gate! Should you be looking for a gate, I'd recommend Gate Depot. They have good quality and they are very helpful for those of us who think we have to do everything ourselves. read more

I live in Byhalia Ms. Disabled vet. Refinanced my home and wanted to get a motorized gate. So looked it up, gave gatedepot a call. was spoke to little rude. I continued. Purchased a 5 thousand dollor gate set. anyway when I was putting it together one of the actuators moved one time and quit. I called and said I probalbly need another one. I was told "Do you have the reciept" I told them the only reciept I could have got was the shipping/packing slip and it probalbly got throw away with all the boxes and stuff. Then I was told "Cant help you" Now I have to purchase another one, 500 to 700 dollars more. They can keep there 5% off on the next purchase. Shop at YOUR own Risk. read more

No written instructions at all with the gate system I purchased. If I buy a $70 bookcase at Target it comes with detailed assembly instructions. But if I puchase a $2800 gate system from Gate Depot they don't provide step-by-step instructions? Seriously? When I complained I was told to watch a video on their Website, which was helpful yet too vague to answer all my questions. They simply shipped a complex $2800 gate system and left it to me to figure out how to put it all together. Also, the woman who took my order on the phone was rude. My experience with Gate Depot has been a very positive one. The gate system I bought appears to be decent quality at a very fair price. Customer service (shout out to Josh in particular) is stellar! All questions, concerns and the few minor issues I had were addressed promptly and to my satisfaction. I purchase a 3 foot by 5 foot gate from gate depot against my better judgment since the refused to give me a shipping quote. Later that day they sent me a mail stating I needed to purchase an ADDITIONAL $30 part (not listed as required) for $33.00. I then got the shipping quote for the 30 pound gate. The quote was for $390. I canceled my order and am waiting to see if I have to go through my band to claw back the funds. read more

I work for a school district in Idaho. We recently spent $6,498.32 on a gate (arm that goes up and down) from GateDepot.com. They sent us the wrong parts, they were not even compatible. When we called customer support, we got transferred a number of times and in the end we were given a number to call to Italy. Ridiculous! I would never buy from this company again. read more

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a product from this place!!!!! I received my Garden gate and as soon as I opened the box found a very deep scratch on the front of the gate. I called and spoke to Josh who told me I could buy rustoleum black spray paint to fix it. No apology, no nothing.There was no offer made to replace the gate, give any type of credit adjustment for my inconvience. His excuse , while yelling "you did'nt ask for that!" There are no installation instructions on how to install the gate, (I was told we sell to people who know how to install this type of gate). Was going to live with the scratch since I was on a time crunch. Today my installer who owns a wrought iron business in So. Calif, pointed out another deep scratch, explained that one of the hinges was not made properly. Also the latch on the gate does not close properly. ( again I was told in a very loud voice "your installer doesn't know what he's doing") The conversation went on from there with him literallly yelling at me, I wasn't evern speaking just listening to him yelling "there is NOTHING I can do for you now that the gate is installed". I said wow, that is how you speak to a customer, I was shocked. I then asked him, "so you are unwilling to do anything to make this right? He yelled and said "what do you want me to do!" I said I don't know what do you think is the right thing to do...He then said "I'm going to go now...I don't have time for this , I have work to do!!" WOW....worst customer service ever....buyer beware..... never have I been treated so rudely, love the design of the gate but very sorry I spent 1000.00 bucks with this company!!! read more
