I came in here with my husband and in-laws earlier this week. We had just been to the high school for a basketball game. From the outside, this place looked deserted. If the Bates Motel were a restaurant vibe to it. But it was dark and late on a Tuesday night. It's also really hard to see from the Highway, so if you're not looking for it, it's easy to overlook. We walked in and had to ring a bell for service. I'm guessing late nights in a dark location off the highway doesn't bring in copious amounts of business. The staff that were working (2 guys) were really friendly and helpful though. Very kind, answered questions, offered suggestions, everything I expect in a good restaurant. Restaurant itself is very dated. You can see it's old and worn. But also clean, and that is what matters to me. I can overlook old if it's clean all day long. We ordered a large pizza, half pepperoni and half supreme. Apparently they have two supremes on the menu, so the guy taking our order double checked which one we wanted. Food was good. I'm picky about pepperoni, and theirs was so good. I love when it bakes to a super crispy perfection. It is abundantly clear they support the local high school, as there were posters of the sports teams all over the place, which is awesome. They obviously care about their community. Would I return? Yes! I would. This was actually a great place to eat, and I'm so glad we all elected to overlook the weird vibe from the outside. Because sometimes hidden gems don't look like hidden gems. read more

Pizza crust is always undercooked and the pizza sauce has a terrible taste. I live nearby and this is the closest pizza place but I chose to drive farther to get my pizza. Too many bad tasting and undercooked pizzas for me to continue to give them my money. I think if they invested into their establishment more, locals would love to support them. read more

Only giving one star because I can't give zero! The worst dining experience we've had in a long time. We waiting 1hr 15 mins for 1 pizza only to have it come out undercooked and with the toppings incorrect. Sent the pizza back to cook longer and waited another 15 mins only for it to STILL be undercooked. The lady working had a horrible attitude and never apologized, acted snooty that we were disgruntled. Never offered our money back or anything to remedy the situation. One giant pizza (aka their large), a small pizza, & a side of wings was $65 whew! Pizza is topped well, but so much cheese it's thick and cold glops. Not a fan. Crust gets soggy and no crisp bite to it. Enough to feed 6+ people with our order. Thankfully with the price. Wings were good and had a kick to them (spicy bbq). No veggies served with those. Choice or ranch or blue cheese dip. Place seems a bit run down and a little dirty feeling inside. Walk right up to counter to order, lots of drinks on tap. Kitchen is right there. We've loved Gatehouse for years. We drive over from Springfield because the pizza used to be top notch. Then they had the issues with their ovens and recipe, which I thought were ironed out. But apparently not, we picked up a large pepperoni last week and it was so bad even our teen boy wouldn't eat it. Globs of cheese, almost no pepperoni. And the crust was absolutely flavorless. Big selection of toppings and a variety of specialty pizzas. We had a Medium Pizza and a side of fries. Order was quick and timely, and it came out hot. First bite delivered that goodness I talked about above. Firm enough crust to hold the za without it being floppy, and it held up as we ate it. Sauce was great, cheese was plentiful, as were the toppings. Our side of crinkle fries were just the right amount of crispy and hot, and I think we ate every fry. Gatehouse staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The restaurant itself is big and had a several big parties on a Saturday night. My nephew's football team came here to eat right after his game to celebrate. Customer service is not good, older woman at counter wasn't nice and seemed to be overwhelmed after taking the first two orders. They're under staffed, food took over an hour to come out. Every pizza ordered came out different; taste varied by pizza and the amount of time they cooked them for obviously varied. Some pizzas were soft and squishy and others nicely crisped as expected from a place like this. Tables were dirty and sticky, numbers given to you for your order are visibly dirty as well. I've been coming to the Gatehouse now for around ten years off and on. I live in Creswell and eat at My Boys mainly when I want local pizza. However, Gatehouse has always been a great alternate when we want to change it up. It used to have a good sized Giant pizza and the toppings and crust were delicious. In some ways better than My boys. We just got it tonight. Paid $60 for a Giant and a Medium and it was by far the worst pizza I've ever had for that price. Crust was terrible. Ingredients weren't cooked all the way and even the Jojos weren't very good. Not to mention the size of the Giant has now significantly decreased to what really is a Large. Very disappointing. I will not be coming here again until I know things have changed. Very unfortunate. read more

I have seen The Gatehouse Pizza place while driving through Pleasant Hill for literally years thinking I should stop in and give them a shot but just never have so today I glanced up and there it was again so I thought, it's now or never... let's do it!! When I first walked through the doors it seemed to be completely deserted, no one there at all, anywhere. Then I heard some clanking and clattering going on in the back and felt a little better about it all. I stood there at the counter for a few minutes looking over the menu and when I made my decision I rang the bell they had sitting there on the counter and without any delay, out came a girl with a big smile on her face and took my order. I went for a small Hunter's Special and an IPA and went and had a seat. The Hunter's Special had Canadian Bacon, Salami, Pepperoni, Linguica, Sausage & Beef and was actully pretty darn good. When I eat pizza, out of habit, I never eat the outside edges of the crust. I figure, why fill up on all the hard, crunchy stuff, I would much rather go for all the good stuff in the middle where the crust if soft. But at Gatehouse Pizza I ate the whole darn thing. It wasn't crunchy around the edges at all. I guess if I had to complain about anything it would be the sauce could have been a little more tomatoey. But that could be just me. I would defiantly pay them to try some of the other items on the menu such as the Chicken Strips, Chicken Wings or maybe a Burger. Who knows, they defiantly had plenty of options to try out. I did notice that the dining area was super clean, the tables were all wiped down, the floor swept up nice, and behind the counter was orderly and laid out efficiently. And the bathroom was clean and well stocked. The soap dispenser was broken and being held together with tape but it still worked well enough, I bet it's on their list of things to get fixed. All in all, I would say that Gatehouse Pizza is a great little small town pizza place well worth stopping trying out. read more

I give it two stars because the staff is so Wonderful!!!! I see others had bad experiences. We must have had the owner. As it Doesn't get much friendlier. But the pricing,for counter service styl seems expensive. But then Pizza, which use to be an economical Choice seems to be expensive everywhere in OR. The pizza is made in one of those conveyor belt ovens. We got the shrimp. -And were a bit surprised that it was canned shrimp. -The pizza "dough" seemed like it was a frozen preformed style crust. -The crust style is the type that has an edge and no puffy dough edge It is all pizza. For some all of this might be wonderful. For us it was tough and isn't our thing we like dough style pizzas. -The 4 pc broasted chicken was tasty and a good portion but some of the pieces seemed freezer burned. Unfortunately it was the first piece I took a bite out of so it kind of turned me off. The Salad Bar was great!! Extremely fresh and lots of choices with homemade pasta and potato salad, at least I think it was homage because it had such a fresh taste!! read more

Good pizza but horrible help,showed up at 8:15 the place closes at 9pm .Watch them turn away several customers telling them they're closed. Not even 8:45 and wouldn't answer the phone person in back yelling out"tell them we are closed " The employees turned off all the lights turned off the tv basically made a very unwelcoming experience for us. The pizza was good, but beyond that our experience was not good. The staff were unfriendly. When we smiled at them or thanked them, there was no response or smile back, they just walked away with sour expressions on their faces. The restaurant seems dirty, with visible food particles and dust on the floor. Don't get the salad bar, you may be taking your life into your hands. The lettuce was brown with some slimy lettuce mixed in. I'm not sure how fresh the salad toppings were either. The "broasted" chicken did not have the flavor or texture of any broasted chicken I have ever tried. It wasn't the best chicken out there. The restrooms were disgusting. There are layers of dust by the toilets and the garbage cans have some substance dripped down them. The toilets have brown rings around the toilet bowl as well. Stopped in here after visiting my sister in Dexter. I was hoping to get some of their breasted chicken, but I was just minutes too late. They had just put an order in the broaster and I would have had to wait for that to be done and then wait for mine to be done. So I ordered their cheeseburger pizza and half Canadian bacon and mushroom. The Pizza is very cheesy and had a nice crispy crust. I've only eaten here a couple of times for lunch & each time I've had the calzone. They have a great selection of ingredients to choose from. Their pizza looks like it would be good & they seem to have a pretty steady flow of customers. The weekday lunch crowd consist of a lot of local high schoolers, but they're not too rowdy or unpleasant. The service has been great each time I've come. Lots of room for big groups. If there was a way to give zero stars I would. Let me start from the beginning I called to place an order. The lady on the phone was very monotone through our conversation, I asked about specials, she told me what they were, I asked about the free cheese bread that they usually offer and she said they don't offer that anymore, I placed my order and asked her what her name was, she said Taylor I said ok thank you and she said "yea bye" When I arrived to the store I asked to speak to a manager, they didn't have a manager on duty but referred me to Amanda. Amanda approached to counter and I proceeded to tell her about my conversation with Taylor. Before I could even finish my conversation Amanda cut me off to say she was standing next to Taylor and didn't feel like Taylor was rude, she told me Taylor is not a bubbly person and would not ask her to be fake, it was not a requirement to be bubbly when talking on the phone. At this point Taylor comes over and tells me that she was not being rude and that she didn't have to talk to me in any specific way just because I am a customer. I looked at Amanda who asked a Taylor to go back to work or to the back room, Taylor flat out refused because " I was talking crap about her and she and the right to defend herself" at which point I said "Taylor I am not talking crap about you, I was just simply trying to explain that you were not professional during our conversation" Taylor then says "quit using my name we are not friends" all along Amanda is standing there telling Taylor to walk away but she won't. I then ask for my money back and they can keep the food I ordered. Amanda gives me a refund and says "I am not going to deal with this, take your refund and never come back...at least when I am working" I asked for the owners names and they both told me they were going to call Mike and Mary and let them know I have been kicked out of the restaurant. I have NEVER felt so mistreated by a business in my life. I was calm, collected and was only trying to encourage Amanda to train Taylor on her customer service skills. Taylor would not even let me talk, she was the rudest employee I have ever encountered. And then for Amanda to not even have control over the situation, siding with her employee (obviously Taylor knew I was going to complain because she went to her manager on duty to prepare her for me, which is a weird thing to do if you truly believe you didn't do anything wrong) If this place goes out of business it wont be because of Covid-19, it will be because of Taylor and Amanda. I purchase pizza from here at least 1 time a week to do my part to save small businesses...not any more. Never again. read more

I'm not sure if the owner change happened after my original review or if their changes just hadn't taken place quite yet. Regardless I was desperate and ended up here for one reason or another awhile back. The dining areas are still old and worn down in places but it feels more comfortable all around. They redid their menu board from what I can tell and are giving a little more attention to quality. Nothing mind blowing but the staff was far more pleasant than in previous years, just more personable in general, which goes a long way. That step up in service is what I've been looking for. It may not wow a person passing through for the first time but as someone who has infrequently visited over the years, you can see the differences here and there. It's good family environment, a game room for the kids and plenty of room to spread out if you have a large party. read more
