Gatekeeper is a coaster experience that is as much about the views as it is about the thrills. First, you climb the lift hill facing Lake Erie, allowing you to take in the views and the sea breeze. Then you dive down and go through an exciting and exhilarating course that includes a close call with the front entrance gate. That makes this coaster a must-ride while at Cedar Point. Just don't ride it in the morning because, since it is at the front of the park and visible from the front entry, everyone goes to Gatekeeper first. For today's review, we're gonna be going over my first B&M wing coaster. GateKeeper! Now, I'm not a huge fan of this ride model. I loved Thunderbird at Holiday World and thought Wild Eagle was alright, but I'd rather see more flying coasters over these. Despite that, I still REALLY like GateKeeper, more than I expected to be frank. We first pull down the vests which, is my biggest issue, I do not like the B&M vest restraints. I'm about 230 pounds so, these restraints pinch down much harder than I'd like. But thankfully this are less painful and more just an annoyance. And unlike Wild Eagle, they don't pinch down through the ride. After this, you head up the massive lift hill riding right along side the beach, which, is one of the things I love about Cedar Point. The views you get are AMAZING on top of the coasters. And GateKeeper is no exception. We then head down the first drop. This is one of the few Dive Drops in the world, and I gotta say. Big fan of this element! Much better than the airtimeless first drop on Wild Eagle (Okay, I'll stop being mean to that ride. Wild Eagle is also a fun ride!) Very disorienting and very cool element. You then head into a big airtime hill which, gives okay floater, nothing too crazy. Before heading into the key corkscrews. Yeah this is that cool looking part where it goes over the park entrance. And yeah, it's a fun element on top of being very pretty to look at. Especially since you still pretty much have all of your speed. You almost never slow down on GateKeeper, you just fly from element to element! After that awesome element, we then hit the dive loop which again, we are just FLYING through. So that moment is awesome, followed by some more inlined twists. We then hit the MCBR, which, I think takes the cake for the most pointless MCBR ever. Like yeah, they need it so they can run 3 trains. But come on, all that's left to the ride is one forceless helix and then you hit the brake run. But yeah, that's Gatekeeper. Overall, it's one of the better B&Ms at Cedar Point and is one of the better coasters at the park. I mean, that first half is just so strong. If the restraints didn't tighten so much, I'd love it more. But regardless, Gatekeeper is fun and is worth a ride at Cedar Point. This is an excellent thrill ride at Cedar point. It is right when you walk into the establishment to the right. However it takes a second to get there you have to go through the midway and you eventually find this big huge blue coaster that is right next to the beach so it makes a fun experience. Anyway we got a fast pass and was able to get on it in about 30 minutes the rest of the line with about two hours It's very fun ride that is a great experience and a must do while you're at Cedar point read more

I don't know how this isn't the most crowded ride in the park. The wait always seems to be just 10-20 minutes. It is Cedar Point's best coaster by far. It's as close as you'll get to flying. The ride is silky smooth but also thrilling, an exceptionally difficult combination to pull off. read more

Going over the front gate is amazing, but I wish they kept Disaster Transport and replaced it with maybe like a Wing Cable lift or something. Cedar Point's 2nd-newest roller coaster spreads its wings at the entrance to the main midway, beckoning guests to dare its 6 inversions and near-misses over a ride time of 2 minutes and 40 seconds. ~Special ride elements~ *dive drop *immelman *corkscrew (giant flatspin) *zero-G roll *inclined dive loop *in-line twist Cruising through nearly ¾-mile of azure blue track, this spectacular ride delivers up to 4G's of force at the base of the first drop and executes every turn with the type of elegance and precision Bolliger & Mabillard (the designer) is known for. Trains of 32 riders are built to resemble a griffin airborne, and the front row features a gold headpiece with eyes that light up red. Each row's outside seat also has white LEDs that appear to stream together when the coaster is in motion, especially when taking photos with long exposure time (very cool). Restraints are the soft vest style, identical to the ones on SFGAm's 'X-Flight' that self tighten for safety's sake, although they can get a bit snug over the course of the ride..... I didn't get a chance to ride in the front, but I can vouch for the back row (right side) that gives one hell of a ride. It's exhilarating no matter where you sit, just make sure you're seated on the OUTSIDE for maximum effect. Left and ride sides yield completely different experiences (since the seats are on either side of the track, as opposed to above or below it) so you'll need to try both to find what works best. The twisting elements through the "keyholes" are a phenomenal rush, and every inversion packs far more of a punch than you'd expect. Due to its young age, popularity, and proximity to the front gate, GateKeeper will most certainly have a long queue at all hours of the day. Even if lines reach up into the 45-60 minute range, I'd still strongly recommend you wait for this terrific roller coaster that is the perfect addition to Cedar Point's already impressive lineup. Eric S's Cedar Point coaster ranking = 4th out of 13. Verdict : there's not much that can compete with this imposing, yet gloriously majestic ride. You get your money's worth out of a nearly 3 minute long journey with a roller coaster that's smooth yet forceful, graceful while dominant. Beautiful all around, she is. This competes with Millennium Force as my favorite ride in the park. Every single time it goes through the gates, I'm convinced we are going to hit them, lol. (and every single time, we do not ...) The ride is super smooth and always enjoyable, and the seats are not that small, although when I was larger I sometimes had trouble buckling the over-the-shoulder harness. We almost were able to walk-on this time which was great, we went on a Friday and got to Gatekeeper around 11am, and maybe waited 10 minutes to ride it. read more

In my top 3 rides at Cedar Point! This is typically our first ride when entering the park and the last several times its only been a 20 min. wait! Thats a good start to a day at CP. Too bad other rides cant accommodate almost twice as many people, I'm curious how many riders they process on this ride in a day compared to others with lower wait times. Incredible roller coaster located in the front section of Cedar Point... A beautifully designed and very comfortable B&M winged coaster, Gatekeeper will exhilarate you every time u ride it. Having the first loop right at the top of the lift hill is insane and incredible. A nice fast moving line makes it seem like your not waiting on line at all. Get the front seat. The loop inside the gate is amazing. A must ride when u first get to the park. 2018 Update.. Still one of the best wing coasters on the planet... Front row is still the choice when choosing a seat. The lines have gotten much smaller over the years with all the other rides that have been created so it's nice to just walk on to this one. read more

This is a ride you will need a locker and is located in the front of the park. This is one of my top rides of the park as it is a B&M winged coaster. It is pretty smooth and there are 2 sides to sit on. I do not have a preference to which side to sit on left or right and they do run 3 trains as well so the line moves fast. The wait can be 15 to 20 minutes, but during the beginning of May the line was a walk on. Anyways they have a lot of near miss elements. Really fun and a lot of elements. Probably my favorite B&M winged coaster and rode quite a bit. read more

So, this was the first high intensity coaster I rode at Cedar Point (but I've rode many other high intensity roller coasters at other parks). It was actually my first trip to Cedar Point, too (and, as an Ohioan, that is pretty embarrassing to admit). I had ridden a couple easier coasters to get warmed up, and decided it was time to ride a pretty intense coaster. So, naturally I turned to the one that was right at the gate (hence the name, "Gatekeeper"). I waited in a rather short line (it was morning, though), and got on. At that moment, the anxiety rushed in. It was terrifying. But the fear quickly melted into thrill and pure fun after the first loop. It was my first floorless coaster, which made it interesting. I would recommend that if you have loose fitting shoes, take them off, because they will fly off. There is a spot to leave them at the gate. The views from the ride are great... when you're not pulling like 5 G's, that is. You can basically see all of Lake Erie from there. But you don't ride a coaster like that for the views, no, you ride for the thrill and the terror. And I will say, it has plenty of that. Of all the coasters at Cedar Point, it has the most comfortable ride in my opinion. You feel very secure and you don't get thrown around as much as other rides. Now, the first half of the ride is definitely scarier than the second. Ok, well time for the final verdict. This is NOT a beginner coaster. If you don't have much experience with roller coasters, this is not for you. But if you are a seasoned veteran at roller coasters, I highly recommend Gatekeeper!!! read more

This ride is extremely smooth but not even in the top 5 of the park. I was excited to ride it but it didnt live up to the hype. Also, I was familiar that different sides offered different experiences. I asked the attendant in line which side had the car on the lake side. He sent me to the wrong side. I'm sure if I was on the correct side the ride would have been better. read more

This is one of my favorite coasters in the park. It is at the main entrance and twists throughout the main gate. This is a winged coaster. It has an awesome view as it is right on the beach. If you have a choice, definitely the front row is preferred along with picking an end seat so you can get the full wing hanging experience. This is an intense coaster, but I really like that it is easy on the body and doesn't really beat you up like other coasters do. read more

I love this ride. It's definitely in my top 10, and I will ride it every time I go to the park. I've been on much scarier rides, and CP has faster ones, but there is none smoother than Gatekeeper. This is one that you can just relax and enjoy for the flight and it's twists and turns. It's a beautiful design through out and will not disappoint. read more

Good ride and I think extremely underrated as far as CP coasters go. Unfortunately, I got a bit of a headache after this coaster today, not sure why but my brother also felt funky after riding it. Not near the top of my list, but still a fun ride. The best part is going over the entrance multiple times where it looks like you are going to hit the posts! read more

Our 10 year old daughter thought this was the best coaster at the park. Maybe she felt like Tinkerbell? I know I didn't. Just felt those G's all over my old fat body. But it was a blast. Good family fun! read more
