One of my favorite parts is the slow climb up the lift hill -- it gives you a chance to take in some of the best views of the park and the surrounding area. Magnum XL-200, while it has been outdone by the newer coasters at Cedar Point, is a thrilling classic coaster that still delivers the airtime to this day. Additionally, Magnum XL-200's course takes you along the northern shore of Cedar Point, so you get to enjoy scenic views of Lake Erie while taking in that excellent airtime, and because it is an older coaster, it tends to have a lot shorter line than the newer thrill coasters at Cedar Point. The only downside is that the back, and to a lesser extent, the middle seats of its cars are small enough that the airtime Magnum XL-200 gives can push you into the seats in front of you, making the airtime unpleasant. For that reason, I recommend you ride Magnum XL-200 in the front seat of any car. That way, you can enjoy Magnum XL-200 for the airtime machine it is. read more

So much fun. This ride has lots of hills and goes through at least two tunnels. It travels through the water park so it's an interesting change of scenery. It's fast so not for those that prefer a slower ride. Each car fits three rows of two, so two people can sit together. Each individual seat has a seatbelt and a lap bar so plenty of safety in place. For today's review, we have one of the most legendary roller coasters ever created. Magnum XL 200. This was the worlds first Hyper Roller Coaster, and despite it being 35 years old, it's still going strong as not just one of the best hyper coasters, but one of the best coasters ever! So let's get into why this coaster is so great! Once you pull down the lapbars, you then takeoff up the lift hill at.... 5mph. Yeah, it's slow. But you get some amazing views of Cedar Point, and of course, Niagra Falls! We then hit the first drop. Getting a nice pop of ejector airtime before rising up into a big hill. Sadly, there's not much airtime here. But don't worry, the airtime comes later! We then drop down, TAKE THE TUNNEL, and hit a second hill. This time, we actually do get a strong moment of ejector airtime. We then head through a pretzel turnaround which has some very strong laterals. Yeah, those trims are there for a reason. You're just flying through this part here. We then TAKE ANOTHER TUNNEL, and now, Magnum Xl 200 has begun. Yeah, this is where the airtime is. Now, so far the airtime has been good but not amazing. But here, HOLY SH*T, YOU JUST GEET YEETED OUT OF YOUR SEAT! Followed by another airtime hill where BAM, YOU GO FLYING OUT OF YOUR SEAT! The airtime here is some of the strongest I've gotten on ANY Coaster. And the ride's not done there! We then YEET into another sideways ejector hill, And then, ONE, TWO, THREE, TAKE THE TUNNEL, FOUR, FIVE, FIVE OF THE MOST INSANE EJECTOR AIRTIME MOMENTS OUT THERE. Before we sadly hit the Mid Course Brake Run as, the ride is now over. Magnum can be a very polarizing coaster. Some enthusiasts LOVE it like I do, while others claim it's not very good due to the roughness. Which, first off, no it's not a rough ride. Sure, getting that much ejector can be harsh on your legs. But HOLY CRAP, IT'S SO WORTH IT! Magnum is currently my 3rd favorite coaster at Cedar Point and it comfortably sits in my top 10 right now. Might drop down overtime as I ride newer and better coasters. But that doesn't change the fact that Magnum is an amazing ride and I highly recommend riding it at Cedar Point. Magnum, when built in 1989, was the tallest, fastest, and steepest complete-circuit roller coaster in the world as well as the first hypercoaster - a roller coaster that exceeds 200 feet in height. Fast forward 30 years, Magnum still a fun ride! It gives you a nice view of the water and the Park itself. So keeps your eyes opening and enjoy the Panorama view! The ride is bumpy and rough but was fun. When I was there, there was no line at all so we just walked in and got on the next ride. Recommend for nostalgic reason and to experience one of the historical rides that started a period in the industry known as the roller coaster wars. read more

Alright so there is a part of me that really wants to like this Coaster because of it's history and importance to anyone who loves rides and enjoys coasters as much as I do but there's also a big part of me that really wants to hate this coaster just as much! This coaster is in it's own way super cool but not as much fun as one would like as when you're riding your constantly bashing your legs up agains the hard restraint that's keeping you from flying out so much so that it just kinda ruins whatever fun that you had before this part in the ride. Magnum XL is also the only hyper coaster ever built by the awesomeness that is Arrow Dynamics it's for that reason that this ride is special to the Coaster society but I must say after finally riding it I wish I hadn't because it just destroyed any type of fun time I thought it was! The ride itself is decently long and takes you to the shores of the lake and through a bit of the waterpark as your going up and down and through a few tunnels on your ever so bumpy ride. Overall Magnum is screaming for help so that It can remain at the top of it's once greatness in the Coaster world I really hope that Cedar Point makes an effort to help make this once awesome ride as amazing as it once was again because it definitely deserves that much! The Magnum, to me, is the most terrifying ride at Cedar Point, although Steel Vengeance is now giving it a run for its money. The reason being: it's essentially a baby Millennium Force, you can't see ANYTHING in those tunnels, and I always feel like I'm going to FLY OUT of my seat. You get some nice lake views going up on the first hill, and from there it feels like death is imminent. Hence why it's the most terrifying for me, and also one of the most fun in the park. The ending was a bit of an OOF this time (it stopped VERY abruptly) so I have to say it's showing its age. However, I will continue riding Magnum when I visit CP, as it's one of my favorites in the park. read more

This was my first larger roller coaster and I prefer it to millennium force, top thrill, etc. steel vengence and maverick having my first two spots. You won't regret it! The ORIGINAL hypercoaster still hits like a bullet of the highest caliber. "The Great Coaster Wars" of the 1990's and 2000's began with this Arrow Dynamics-designed steel monstrosity that put Cedar Point on the map. After that, there was simply no turning back for the revered amusement park. This landmark installation provided the tinder for the powder keg which ignited the desire for places to build the longest, tallest, fastest, steepest, craziest goddamn thrill machines on the planet. Magnum, quite simply, is the one that started it all. With a height of 205ft, riders are given a picturesque view of Lake Erie from the chain lift hill's apex before racing down a 60° drop. Indeed, Magnum broke ALL SORTS of records upon her opening (FYI, Magnum isn't an "it", Magnum is a "she." And she is still a radiantly beautiful 27-year old.) She was unveiled as the fastest, tallest, and steepest complete-circuit steel roller coaster in the world. She runs alongside the beach at 72mph, making her tied for 4th fastest coaster at the park. With a track length of 5,106ft, she's Cedar Point's 3rd-longest roller coaster and since her Spring '89 debut, more than 40 million people have experienced what I already know: that it's not about the number of years in your life, but instead the amount of life in your years. Over the 2 minute ride, you're treated to three tunnels, a pretzel loop turnaround that packs plenty of lateral + positive G's, and a return trip back to the station that's absolutely LOADED with airtime. In fact, Magnum (aka 'Maggie') has the most powerful negative G's in the park, as well as some of the most ample airtime of any coaster I've ever ridden. The seven bunny hops yield 'ejector seat' moments, particularly in the front row but not as much in the rear of the train. Only one or two coasters in the USA come to mind that have more airtime than my beloved Maggie. She could use some new trains & restraints (the ratcheting lapbars aren't the most comfy), but her notoriety and extremely short lines make up for that. The tunnels are lovely, too. And taking those first few hills along the lakefront at night is nothing short of breathtaking. ?BinsNoBins? = NoBins. But I couldn't care less. Take her as she is, that's good enough for me. I should mention that Maggie was one of my first, real big deal roller coasters. Sure, there was Whizzer and Demon and whatnot, but breaking the 200+ foot barrier was my first step towards a life of adrenaline-seeking. Without Maggie, there is no Raging Bull, no Millennium Force, no Dragster. Maggie in many ways was like my first true love, and that's something you never forget. And before you get all "eeeww that's gross, pretending like a roller coaster is your lover", firstly shut up, and secondly literally every man on the planet has at one point referred to a machine/device as "their [insert feminine name]". Guys have girly names for their cars, or their boats, or their planes. Some even have one for their phone (need I remind you about the movie 'Her'?) So why not a roller coaster, hmmm? This Giga classic is the answer to the question, "Why do my legs hurt and why is my thing bruised." A beautiful ride with a Star Wars-feel to the train and station. The ride to the top is quite unnerving, but in a good way because of how thin the moly orange track looks as you click your way to the top. This Arrow Hyper is the mindf**k of coaster legend Ron Toomer. This coaster, created a great coaster war with other parks and for that, I'm forever grateful. The highlight for most enthusiasts is the series of bunny hills at the end which provide many pops of ejector airtime, but if you are stapled in and have thick athletic legs, you will be feeling thigh pain the world has never seen the next day. Lastly, don't be surprised to hear someone say "Owwwww, my dick" during the bunny hill part. Bonus points if it's in the tunnel cause voices sound louder in there, also, Cedar Point added a dope ass light package to one of the tunnels. It's cool. It was, at one time, an incredible feet to hit 200 feet in height almost 30 years ago, but it's definitely showing its age. Its a very rough snd bumpy ride and was too much for me to love. You get a nice view of the park, but thats about it. Only ride it if your looking to add to your resume. 2018 Review. I'm adding a star. Umm, no. After getting off this ride I seriously had a pimp walk. All that was missing was a zoot suit with bling, a diamond studded cane, and hat topped off with a feather. My thighs had red marks on it due to them slamming up into the lap bars as soon as we go down any hump on the track. Yes, I know this coaster has history and the views going up the first hill are gorgeous but is all that worth it becoming a paraplegic? This coaster needs to be taken down. Instead of grounding my kids I would make them ride this a couple times. But then somebody might call Child Protective Services claiming I beat them. Mainly on their thighs. I dont care if you are a die hard coaster enthusiast, you cannot convince me that this coaster is one of the best you have ever rode. Riding a great coaster should not make you feel sore the next day like you got run over by an amtrak. If that show "Pimp My Ride" ever came out with a roller coaster edition, then this would be the first one on there. Oh did I mention that this ride also shakes you violently just like those machines at the hardware stores that shake the paint cans so that the colors mix properly? The only thing that's "Magnum" about this ride are the bills you will get from your chiropractor, physical therapist, and pharmacist. This was the 1st coaster my family and I went on. Maybe that's why it's so dear to my heart. I think this ride is very thrilling, has a decent view (waterpark, lake), offers tons of airtime and even some cook tunnels. Obviously it isnt as dope as the newer coasters, but it's a good match. Even my grandma rode this and loved it. The unexpected air time in the tunnels is so fun. At night, they add fog and lights to the tunnel. Love this coaster read more

Way back in 89 myself and many others were over the moon about the Magnum. If Yelp was around back then I would have wanted to bestow 6 stars upon what was then the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. How times have changed. Although it's still worth a ride, the almost 3 decades of use have taken a toll on ol' Maggie. She just doesn't seem to have the same spring in her step. I could swear some trim brakes have been added cause the venerable coaster just didn't seem to have quite the same vim and vigor from my perspective. I wasn't noticing the wonderful airtime and I'm not sure if that was because it just wasn't there or the safety restraints were on extra tight. And she runs quite a bit more rough from what I remember and I'm not sure if the newer coasters have made me soft and spoiled or it's just a lot more turbulence. I still miss you the long gone fog and strobe lights in the tunnels. My nine year old cousin said they we're taken out cause people were having seizures which made me feel especially stupid as I think I had heard that a long time ago and forgotten. It's still got some of the better scenery of the coaster collection at Cedar Point, what with the way it bolts out of the dry park boundaries, cruising over the water park and towards the cabins and hotel at the very end of the peninsula. Close enough that an urban myth about Magnum having to be torn down due to the land it sits on sinking has been going around for, like, decades now. We waited a good 45 minutes or so to ride, though part of that was Maggie taking some downtime just as many of the coasters were on those 2 days. I saw through the Cedar Point app that waits are often short, in the 5 to 15 minute range. My buddy Sven said he went on it 4 times in 20 minutes the last time he was there. For my money, though, with Gemini and Rougarou with probable short waits right around that part of the park, one spin on the original hyper-coaster is sufficient, even with short waits. I read they play 80s music in line since the ride's from 89 but the only song I remember, with the gratuitous waste of CP's video screen showing the music video, was Europe's pussy metal anthem The Final Countdown. "This is what they call a one-hit wonder, " I told my little cousins, cringing much as I did when trying to explain the 90s trend of stand-up roller coasters. Beyond that, I heard the same present day dreck they were showing at tv screens around the park. Play some better 80s music, CP! And stick with the theme! read more

I like the magnum XL as it is a bad ass coaster. Worlds fastest 1989 and I give it credit as it's a fun coaster. However, it is a rough coaster by the time the ride is over, i find myself aching and relieved. I will continue to ride it though because you have to if your at cedar point. Plus there is never a line unless the rest of the park is packed. read more

Great ride! The lap bar was a little tight, but that's okay. You get a nice view of the water park and the lake at the top, and when you go down you go through tunnels. The screaming echoes and it sounds like a horror movie. I was wearing glasses, and they almost fell off, so make sure to put them in your pocket. read more
