The first lift hill leads into a jaw-dropping 95-degree drop that instantly wakes you up, followed by crazy, whip-fast turns that keep your heart racing the entire ride. The sleek design, bold colors, and overall atmosphere make it feel like you're on a roller coaster adventure through the backcountry. One of my favorite moments is the unexpected launch underneath the station that shoots you toward the water section -- it's a rush like no other. Like Millennium Force, Maverick's iconic silhouette is visible from the road as you approach the park, a beacon of thrills calling you in. Todays' review we're going to be reviewing the one and only MAVERICK. Often ranked as not just one of the best coasters in the park, not just one of the best in Ohio, not even one of the best-launched coasters. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST COASTERS IN THE WORLD!!!! No seriously, out of the 181 coasters that I've done. MAVERICK is in my top 3, and it's consistently at the top of a lot of people's rankings too! So we're in for a TREAT with this ride. We pull down the OTSR's and then slowly roll out of the station with the other train (Nice double station, really helps with the ops!). We then hit the lift hill which, HOLY S*HIT. THIS THING IS FAST! This doesn't even feel like a lift hill, it feels like a LAUNCH. Before you know it, you hit the first drop. Not only is this drop kickass because it's beyond vertical, but you just get YOINKED out of your seat with that insane ejector airtime. We then hit a really sharp turn, and before you know it, WHAM, you are YOINKED into the other direction as you hit the next turn. This might just be the most intense coaster I've ever ridden, I mean this is so insane this rivals X MOTHER FREAKING 2 for most intense coaster that I've ridden. And then BAM, ANOTHER SHARP TURN TO THE OTHER DIRECTION. And because of the soft restraints, there is ZERO pain to this. We then hit the first airtime hill which, GODDAMN, The airtime you get here is STRONG. Easily the strongest airtime I've ever experienced on a non-RMC coaster. We then hit two, back to back heartline spins. Which, oddly enough, is the tamest part of the ride, despite the fact that these are the only two inversions on this ride. We then enter a shed and slow down a bit. After seeing a bit of impressive theming, SURPRISE.... We then hit a POWERFUL launch that takes us to 70 MPH. Easily the best launch in the park (Rip Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister). We then rise up into a hill with... trims.... Now, I'd normally complain about them, but I'm pretty sure if they weren't there this ride would kill people from how intense it is. So I'm willing to forgive them for being here. We then run along a pond with another intense asf turn (with some cool water effects going off) and then we rise into a super intense S bend turn. Now, there was originally a heartline roll here, but again, this was proven to be too intense, so it was removed. Which, if you have to TONE DOWN your ride from how intense it is and even though said toned down ride is STILL one of the best coasters ever, You have a amazing ride. We then get slammed into a BEYOND 90 degree turn into another fantastic airtime hill and then hit one last curv into the brake run. Maverick is one of the greatest coasters ever made. And unsurprisingly, it's one of the best coasters I've ever ridden and is my favorite launched coaster (was Lightning Rod, but Dollywood removed the launch.) I mean, this has got to be the most well rounded coaster ever. It's got intensity, amazing laterals, an amazing launch, great inversions, amazing airtime, and it's glossy smooth. Literally every good trait that I like in a coaster is in Maverick. And the crazy part is, it's not even the best coaster in the PARK (although I gotta be honest, I wouldn't disagree if you said it was.) I HIGHLY recommend riding Maverick as it's one of the best coasters ever made! I don't care if the line isabsurdly long or if the apocalypse is about to happen. RIDE MAVERICK. The first time you ride it, you'll constantly wonder what is coming around the next corner on this wild roller coaster! There are so many unique features to this ride and it's easily become one of my favorites of all time. - There are normally long lines but at least there is a decent amount of shade for most of it - The seatbelts are very secure (no clicks - you can customize how tight against your lap it goes) - There are cubbies to put your belongings. These are shared with the other people on your train - The lift hill goes FAST! - SO much airtime - The launch tunnel is unbelievable. The best I can think of! Fun coaster but broke down constantly. We were there for 2 days and it broke down while we were in line each day. The first day it was closed for the rest of the day so we wasted 90 minutes waiting in line for nothing. Hopefully they can do some maintenance and repairs in the off season to help. read more

The Maverick roller coaster is yet another wonderful ride that the folks from the Cedar Point amusement park have installed that will terrify you. Unlike the Steel Vengeance, whose seats do portend the horror that is about to come to its riders, the industrial strength seats on the Maverick let you know that it's about to be a bumpy ride. Diana Ross had a song called "Upside Down" where she states, "Upside down,Boy, you turn me, Inside out. And round and round" and those were my first thoughts while I was on this twisty, turny, upside down ride. It's a beast of a ride and if you love roller coasters, this one's for you. Now mind you, even with early entry into the park, we still had to wait a minute to get on this ride. However, once we got this bad mofo, we were hooked and all of the time that we spent in line was nothing but a memory. By the time you go in and out of the ride's heart stopping loops and turns, you barely remember your name. The ride is just that good. So, if you're into roller coasters, pu-leeze go to Cedar Point and ride the Maverick. Just make sure that you don't have any heart or bladder problems... LOL! read more

THE WILD, WILD, WILD WEST This buckin' mothaf*ckin' bronco has more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. I'm going to tell you right now (spoiler alert!), 'Maverick' is not only the best coaster at Cedar Point -- edging out more than a dozen others for that distinction -- but it's one of the best coasters anywhere in the country. Interestingly enough, it's only 105ft tall.  More on that later, cowpokes! ~Special ride elements~ *LSM-launched lift hill *95° drop *twisted horseshoe roll (consecutive, mirrored corkscrews) *tunnel *LSM-launch *92° overbanked turn *Stengel dive Built in 2007, Mavvy is the 500th roller coaster designed by the famous Werner Stengel, and he must be pleased as punch with how this turned out.  There are so many gleeful quirks and eccentricities about this ride it's daunting to list them all.  But I'm gonna try: 1) Mavvy has beautifully unassuming statistics. Situated in Frontier Town, towards the back of the park, 'Maverick' is 9 years old now and never set any type of records, yet lines can still reach upwards of an hour.  It's got barely a 100ft drop, *only* 2 inversions, and top speed of 70mph which makes it the 5th fastest coaster at the park. Nothing too noteworthy there..... However, it was christened the "Best New Ride" in the 2007 Amusement Today awards, although it hasn't garnered nearly the same level of attention that 'Millennium Force', 'Dragster', or even 'Magnum' had in its heyday. So while she may not win any beauty pageants, 'Maverick' continues to win all sorts of popularity contests. Expect lengthy wait times, folks. 2) Mavvy runs without a chain. Despite the presence of a lift hill, there is no traditional chain or cable to be found.  Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM's) gradually boost the trains up the 20° incline at 20mph.  Later on in the ride, a secondary launch catapults the train to 70mph on a straightaway section but shhhhh that's a secret surprise!! 3) Mavvy's trains are tiny, but plentiful in number. Six different trains seat 12 riders a piece, in 6 rows of 2.  They come in a variety of flavors; gunmetal grey, gold, brass, black, silver, and copper.  Each train is equipped with soft vest restraints which makes for an exceedingly comfortable ride.  Shorter trains means a much wilder ride sensation, as they can navigate turns with far more agility.  Which is CRUCIAL, because...... ..... 4) Mavvy is one out of control bee-otch! Between the high speed S-curves through the canyon, the sharp airtime hill, the insane "Stengel dive" overbanked turn, or the 'fake out' ending underneath the station (LOVE that sh*t, btw), everything about this coaster is meant to feel like a wild stallion.  I really don't want to give anything away, but I'll say that this roller coaster is jam-packed with surprises and never once disappointed me (nor will it you!) Eric S's Cedar Point coaster ranking = **1ST** out of 13. Verdict : obviously I saved the best coaster for last.  'Maverick' will bring you sweet satisfaction time and time again, and is without question the best overall thrill machine in the whole damn park. Go ahead and argue with me, but be prepared to lose said argument. Some may say that 'Millennium Force' is better; that coaster is all about pomp & circumstance. This ride is the whole package with both speed and smooth transitions, and the rather unpretentious nature of everything puts sweet Mavvy in the running for "the most humble roller coaster to ever exist." Suffice it to say, Cedar Point struck paydirt with this tremendous terrain-hugger. Even if the estimated wait is 90 minutes long, DO IT. Oh....and all y'all 'Maverick' haters can go buck yourselves. read more

Maverick is not my favorite coaster. I rode it this time because my friend said it was less rocky now.... It's not, lol. You HAVE to remember to keep your head back and even then, my ears always get boxed. One time I wore earrings, even though there are specifically signs that say not to, and that was a bad idea... My ears hurt a lot after. The coaster itself is pretty cool, and I love the part where it stops and then starts over at like 70-ish mph. But generally this coaster is not one of my first stops in the park, just because I always feel like I've been beaten up afterwards... read more

I decided to go on this ride first before I rode on steel vengeance since I heard this is the 2nd best ride of the park. I would say it is great as it keeps you guessing what is happening next. Five stars all the way. This coaster whips and turns you and shoots you out s few times while never making it over 100 feet in the air. And it does an amazing job at it. Just when you think its over, you enter a tunnel and it shoots you out again to finish the ride. Amazing roller coaster. A must ride... Lines are long so get there early. 2018 Review... still long lines like crazy. Thank God for Fast Land Plus. By 11am, there was an hr line for this ride... It well worth it since it's a great ride... This is probably the best all-around coaster from the way it launches uphill does a lot of twist interns into a tunnel where the coaster comes to a complete stop and then takes off at 70 miles an hour does a bunch of other things that are really cool obviously, and then the ride is over and you wish it wasn't. read more

An amazingly fun ride. Not super tall but god you do go fast. You get shot out to speed right away, into some really fun turns as if your riding a horse. Then you go into a dark tunnel and it shoots you out again and you go flying out the tunnel in pure joy. But expect an hour wait if not that usually the rides broken down. So it's really a gamble the ride breaks down for an hour or two but they always get it back up and running. If it's running you should be to, running to get in line. read more

This is another classic and awesome cedar point coaster. It has a wild Wild West theme. It is a lift coaster and it launches you really quickly up the hill. It has a number of loops and twists and soon as you think it's over as you stop inside the tunnel, you are in for more of a treat as the ride isn't over yet. Seats are comfy and secure feeling as well. Definitely a must ride if you visit cp and love coasters. read more

I really enjoy this roller coaster. It's really unique in how it launches you up before the first 95 degree drop. There's a lot of twists and turns and it's pretty fast. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because it leaves you with a bit of a headache in the end. You really have to pay attention to the track and brace yourself for each turn otherwise you'll be in pain after. The line moves quickly and it is near steel vengeance haha. read more

We rode this coaster at night and man was it a cool effect. Most beautiful set of curves assembled for the ride of your life. Not as scary as the others but was as wild and as fun to put Mav right up there in the Cedar Park Pantheon of roller coasters. read more
