I believe they run a honest shop as well: it doesn't seem like they were up-selling me on more repairs than what I came in for.

We took our Toyota to Beall's Auto Repair for a brake job, but it was a terrible experience. His…read morebill was substantially higher than he said it would be, yet he said he did not run into any unexpected problems or need for additional parts or service. He simply said it would cost us more and we had to pay it. Beall gave us a receipt only after we insisted, yet it didn't have anything on it regarding a warranty. Later, we noticed Beall had significantly overfilled the car's brake fluid reservoir -- and also left it uncapped, which caused the brake fluid to spill over. Beall's attitude was simply awful and unprofessional. Avoid.

A word of warning: We took our Toyota to Scotty Beall, of Beall's Auto Repair, near Thurmont,…read moreMaryland, after he told us his labor rate was only $45/hr. and promised to save us $$$ on brake work. When we returned that evening, he presented a $600 bill (for only our front brakes), which was substantially higher than quotes from elsewhere in Frederick. I was flabbergasted at his bill. Beall responded that that was his price, period. He had us over a barrel, so I paid, knowing he could keep our car for weeks, while we fruitlessly waged a losing court battle. Worse, Beall failed to specify which parts he used, and reluctantly produced a receipt only after I insisted. Even then, his receipt didn't have anything written on it regarding a warranty. When I asked him to identify which parts he used, he simply wrote "best quality" on the receipt--and charged us an exorbitant markup on each part--way more than is customary. When I again asked about his warranty, he hesitated and said he would give a six-month warranty. A verbal promise, which is meaningless. When we got home, I noticed Beall had (a) significantly overfilled the brake fluid reservoir and then left it uncapped, which can lead to rapid brake failure from loss of fluid. Because it was left uncapped, excess brake fluid had spilled all over the place, yet even then, the fluid level still read crazy high. Clearly, he had overfilled the system and didn't want to bleed out the excess properly, so he left the top uncapped and let it spill out that way. We gave Beall our business because he said he could save us money and give us a top-quality brake job. He cost us almost $250 extra. Seven months later, the front brakes are already out of adjustment, but I'll be darned if we take it back for more of Beall's "expert" help and customer service.

The insurance company made us take our car to another body shop in the area. Two days after we…read moredropped it off, they more than doubled their initial estimate. I left D&J a voicemail at 4:30 on a Friday night to get a second opinion. He called me back within 15 minutes and explained all of my options better than the other shop and the car insurance company combined. Then, on Monday, once I had seen the car and taken pictures, he gave me a $100 solution to what the other company wanted $3300 for (and should have seen in the first estimate) and said another piece they claimed needed to be fixed was structurally sound. He offered to work with me to get secondhand parts to fit within my budget if I chose to salvage the car or drop the insurance claim- and I never paid him a dime for his services! I wish I would have taken our car to D&J instead of going through insurance and the other company. They are honest, communicative and truly have the customer's best interests in mind!

I used New Bill's Autobody to perform a Maryland Safety Inspection on my vehicle. Sadly, I was not…read moreimpressed with their service, and this is not due to the fact that my car failed the first round of inspection. It is because I was told and then confirmed that I had EITHER 1,000 miles OR 30 days to fix my car and have it reinspected. However, upon my return to DJ's I was told the complete opposite by the same person. Instead of being within the 1,000 mile OR 30 day limit, one actually needed to be between within 1,000 miles AND within 30 days. As a result, I am now expected to take off more time from work to wait the obligatory two hours to have my car reinspected after I was assured that I did not have to follow both rules in order to be within the grace period after a failed inspection. But what really broke the straw was that the certified mechanic started working on another vehicle and I had to wait until he finished even though I had an appointment for that time. I cannot speak to their handiwork when it comes to repairs, but I can say, based off of my own experience, that New Bill's cannot effectively speak to their clients, and have poor customer service. And in the end they have caused a lot of wasted time and money in the long run.
