I would highly suggest you stay far away from this company for any mitigation/restoration needs you might have. I'm not exactly sure why their business model changed, or when they decided to become so aggressive and unprofessional- but it's so very bad now. We had somebody come out because we had a small hot water heater leak. They told us that the damage was very very minimal and we most likely wouldn't even have to go through our insurance. The gentleman explained to me that he was going to leave fans in my garage, and that because we are in Arizona it would take no time at all for everything to be dry, 24-48 hours max. They removed one full sheet of drywall that had gotten wet (would've fit in a 30 gallon trash bag with leftover room) and took about 2 hours to complete the job. Five days later, they finally come out to get their fans. I get an invoice later that day. $180 service call, $208.80 in mileage, $250 trash disposal, 4 days of rented fan fees $224, FOUR hours of demo- when they were NOT there four hours.. I called the guy immediately to figure out why in the world it was so high, our total bill for them being there for just a few hours was $1120!!! He kept stuttering and stammering over his words, saying that they had to be reimbursed for mileage and everybody charges a service call and that they had to dispose of the trash somewhere. It was all a bunch of excuses, and no actual answers to the questions I was asking. Because our "small leak" turned into something so elaborate, we decided to go with a different company to finish this project and let our insurance company handle the entire thing. Now, every couple days they email or text us demanding payment, say that our insurance company has paid us, and we need to pay them asap. They literally have accused me of taking money from my insurance company and not paying it to them!! Mind you, the project still isn't completed. The original person from this company that came out, explained to me that insurance takes time, and this can sometimes take up to 45 days... so why are they hounding me for payment? After I received a message today accusing me of stealing money, I called and spoke with the insurance adjuster assigned to our case. He said that he had spoken with Gateway and assured them that any payment that we were sent was for repairs, not the mitigation work that they did, and our insurance company would be paying them directly, but they still hadn't received any information or pictures from them in order to process payment. But yet they're down my neck for payment? Save yourself the trouble and find a different company! read more

I give them only one star because the ratings didn't go any lower. My hot water heater broke and flooded the garage and an adjoining office/storage room. This company was referred by the plumber who installed the new water heater. I was initially impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff as well as the precision with which they handled the mitigation portion of restoration. Unfortunately, everything went downhill right after that. Perhaps that was the plan. First, there were scheduling problems and very long delays, which of course increased the amount of the storage bill (they are 'affiliated' with that company). Next, Danjee, the manager, hired a sub-contractor to handle, the actual work . He admitted to me that he didn't even know the people who did the work (i.e. the ones he had introduced to me and assured me that they would do excellent work) "Not to worry, they do this all the time". The person whom I was told was a plumber, had actually disconnected, moved and reconnected my brand new water heater, which he had dropped in the process. I might mention here that this 'plumber" was only a plumber in the loosest sense of the word. He was not licensed or certified, but he was 'assigned' the designation of 'plumber' because he had worked with and watched 'real" plumbers. It was extremely difficult to communicate with him due to his limited English-speaking skill. This " plumber" had been left, along with another very young worker, to effect the repairs alone. The subcontracted 'supervisor' of these workers had become angry earlier and left his workers without adequate supplies (broom, hose etc.) because I would not allow him access to by bathroom. He never returned. By late evening, the water heater was not functioning and the gas company had to be called. The SWG worker noted that there was a leak inside the tank which cause the pilot light to be extinguished . The next morning Danjee sent the same subcontracted 'plumber' back out. He, the fake plumber, immediately got on the phone with a 'real" plumber for about twenty minutes and managed to effect a solution . (Let's see how long it lasts.) Next, the damaged insulation which had removed from one wall by the mitigation team was not replaced, because Danjee said I didn't 'need' it anyway. This, despite the fact that he had been instructed to replace it on several occasions. His excuse: "I didn't think you meant it'. He finally agreed to reopen the wall and replace the insulation after a conference call with the insurance company rep.. A portion of the wall was reopened and when the repair crew returned (another week later) mold was found to have developed due to a leak in the overflow pipe improperly installed by the "plumber". They fixed the leak and now another week-long delay. They returned, declared the wall now "cured and mold free" installed the insulation as well as a five year old would have, and replaced the previously removed section of the drywall with drywall of a lesser thickness which appeared to have been reclaimed from another project. They filed in the 'gap' with three layers of some type of paste, let it harden and then painted over it. Voila. By now, I am too tired and exasperated to even speak. Besides, their "corrections" only seem to make matters worse. Think it's over? Not yet. About 5-10 minutes after the crew packed up a left, one of the workers returns, communication device in hand , and asks me to sign that he had "done the work". He kept insisting, pointing to the lone signature box. Outside of the signature box, the screen was entirely blank. I asked him again to explain, he said to 'show I did the work'. I probably shouldn't have signed, but I did , thinking he needed my signature for verification to his employer. Later, the next day when I called the office to verify my signature, I was told that I had signed a "Verification of Satisfaction "form. How did that happen? The screen had been blank! They e-mailed me a copy of a document I had never even seen, ....and with my signature! They claim I had been sent a legal document (on a laborer's phone?) and signed it I immediately revoked my signature and requested that all remaining documentation be conducted on hard copy. I was subsequently sent a hard copy that looks nothing like the 'blanket satisfaction' form my signature had originally been affixed to. In brief, if you're even thinking about working with this company, Don't! But if you insist on doing so, be very, very vigilant. read more

While doing some home renovations, we found some mold and rot in a couple of places in our walls. Gateway was very responsive and came the very next day to check for any extra moisture in the walls and clean the existing mold to stop it from spreading. When doing done home renovations on our newly purchased home, we came across some areas showing moisture and rot in the walls. Gateway Restoration was super responsive, and easy to work with, sending a tech out the very next day to investigate. Even though we only saw a couple of problem spots, he made sure to use his equipment to scan the whole house for any other evidence of moisture damage. He was extremely professional the whole time, explaining the process and his findings in each room. He was efficient in getting the issues taken care of and making sure he cleaned up after himself. Their office also followed up the next day to make sure everything was indeed taken care of and we were fully satisfied. I give two stars. This is because the tech and accounts receivables rep were professional. The gouging and excessive overcharging for "emergency" services was disappointing. This is a restoration company that's whole business model is to provide assistance during your family's emergency. If the equipment is going to be in our home after hours and over the weekend, please kindly communicate that we will be charged higher fees as a result. Our goal was to pay for this in cash as to avoid an insurance claim. I was stonewalled by management when I questioned the excessive fees and we were forced to file claim. Once our insurance adjuster got involved they lowered their fees. Seems to be an unfair business practice in my view. Last note, be advised that they also own the asbestos company that they will send your drywall samples to as well. Do they tell you this up front? I'll let you assume what you want here. Drywall asbestos test for three 2" X 2" samples from one bedroom = $1,700. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. This company is a NIGHTMARE! We had a major flood in our home due to a broken toilet valve. The first phone number on google I could find was gateway and I jumped at the chance for immediate service. Their employee, David, was great. He arrived quickly was basically the guy who came to rip out the carpets, drywall and start the drying process. He was completely professional and told us the company could take care of the construction of putting it back together, which I thought sounded simple for me. My only complaint is that his crew threw out brand new packaged items of mine that were not even damaged in the flood. The packages just disappearred and nobody remembered throwing the items away or taking(?) them!!! Next step was dealing with guy named Todd, who jerked us around for 5 months then demanded payments for estimates on work that he never did. He is very confusing to deal with and passive aggressive. He had difficulty trying to get simple drywall patches done in less than 2 months. He blamed his subs and the fact that he was out of town, yet he would never arrange anything. It was like pulling teeth just to get on the schedule with this company for repairs. In the meantime, nothing got scheduled unless we continually called to request it, sometimes taking over a month just to schedule a 1/2 day job. He was condescending to me (wife), telling me, "Theres a process!" and that I "didnt understand". (For the record, I used to flip houses and was in real estate for many years and have a pretty good grasp on the "process".) I do know that it doesn't take 2 months to schedule simple trade jobs. The guy had an excuse for everything and is constantly twisting things you say to fit his agenda. A total con man. Even some of his subs roll their eyes at him. Jump ahead to finally getting some work done after paying a hefty deposit. We couldn't wait to have the job completed as we were tired of dealing with this Todd guy and his excuses. He started calling us each week demanding to know why we wont pay for items in the original estimate that were never done, blaming his boss for "being on his back" . (This is work that gateway DID NOT do.....he is demanding money just for giving estimates for some of the work.....not for actually doing the work!) Then he tells us that he DIDNT charge us for work that he did do. Does that make any sense at all? Why would someone not charge for materials and labor for 1 job but demand payment for work never done on another? If you want to wait for 5 months just to get a small job done and get jerked around all the way thru, then go ahead and give these guys a call. Otherwise, find a professional contractor or pick someone up at Home Depot. read more

Gateway Restoration came the same day and wrote an estimate for me to submit to my home owners insurance. Danjee was very professional and easy to work with.
