Terrific and friendly local business with an artsy vibe. Found this place by accident while looking for a brunch spot in York. The person taking our order raised the bar by personally looking up on her phone ingredients in a latte they make to insure there was no gluten in it (my wife has a gluten allergy). The food was fresh, drinks were perfect. The ambiance is quaint. Parking is easy finding off street since they have a parking area. There is also street parking. Added this to one of my places to go when visiting York. They also have food specials menu by the counter when you order so check them out before you decide. read more

Eclectic and cozy little place in York. Daughter picked it and so we went for lunch. We were looking for vegetarian and vegan options as well as other options for a wide variety of palates amongst our group. We all found something to our taste and enjoyed some warm beverages on a cold day. The place offers food and drink but is also (as the name implies) a great place for gathering with friends and family. The downstairs has the kitchen and where you order and pay as well as some smaller tables and chairs. Upstairs you'll find additional tables for larger groups and even some board games. Having grown up in York, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I wish something like this existed when I was there. It just feels good there. Safe. Accepting. Relaxed. Clean. The coffee was delicious, the barista was super sweet. The mushroom toast that I had rivaled breakfasts I've had out here at home in Los Angeles. Don't have a single bad thing to say about Gather 256. I'll be as much a 'regular' as someone can be, only making it to Pennsylvania once every two years or so. read more

The place is super nice when you walk in, I saw some baddies leaving the place this week and thought I would try it. The Service was fast but the food was trash. We got an avocado toast with egg which was a 5/10 and then the breakfast quesadilla. What a shit show, just frozen sausage patty and 2 slices of bell peppers. My cousin and I tried for the first time. We choose apple pie chai lattes, breakfast Cuban without egg on it, and avocado toast with honey. Everything was delicious. Avocado toast has just a kick of heart from the cayenne pepper. Lattes was amazing. We actually ordered a 2nd round of lattes and sat outside in the private patio area. We enjoyed our time there. What a surprise! We were in York for a high school district championship swim meet and wanted to find a restaurant for lunch. We couldn't have been happier than to find Gather 256. You order at the counter from a menu which includes vegetarian fare, find a table and they bring your meal to you. Both stories of this old building made into a restaurant are charming. This place is not just eye opening but the Ironic foods and delicious Chai's brightened that could Saturday. Oh my gosh! The ambiance is 10/10!! My husband and I are originally from CA and are obsessed with little coffee shops! Absolutely LOVED this place and is now our local treat to ourselves. Upstairs has a great study area where you can overlook the street view, so beautiful. I haven't tried this yet but looking forward to taking their plant class they have there too! I don't have kids, I have plants so this really speaks to me. LOL Oh, almost forgot to mention.. the food!? I can't remember what the sandwich was called but it was sweet and salty and delicious!!! We were on a trip and discovered this amazing breakfast place. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was eclectic. I had a we still call it the ironic sandwich which was a delicious everything bagel with egg, bacon, cheese, tomato and avocado. My boyfriend had a Cuban sandwich from the "lunch" menu. He exclaimed it was the best Cuban sandwich he ever ate. The iced coffee was smooth and had just enough oak milk for me. The cappuccino was delicious. Fun and yummy spot in York. read more

Visited York for a week and basically adopted Gather 256 as my office. The staff were all super friendly and helpful and the food was great. I accidentally discovered they have peanut butter syrup (probably for milkshakes?) and got them to make peanut butter oat milk lattes, which might sound strange but are super delicious. The baked french toast (add side of sausage) was my favorite, but the weekend cheese grits with sausage, curry potatoes and hollandaise was also fantastic. Great sandwiches, the Cuban was very generous and I made 2 meals out of it. The working space upstairs was really comfortable, the music is lower (than downstairs) so I was able to make phone calls, and the natural light was perfect so that I felt energized but not so bright I couldn't see my computer. There's a cool plant studio upstairs, and they compost their food scraps on-site! Will definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more
