We arrived on a Sunday morning to have a 25min wait, which I have no idea why?? The food taste and quality is mediocre at best. My eggs were overcooked, biscuits and home fries undercooked, coffee was brown flavorless water, cream chipped beef truly the worst I've had in years bland with a thick skin on top, but my bacon was delicious at least they got something right. The service was slow with lots of attitude. The price was ok for 4 people but if you ate your meal regretting not just getting an egg and cheese biscuit from BurgerKing prior to coming here, then the price really doesn't matter. I found this restaurant online and it was only five minutes from the airport. What I found here was a beautiful classic building, great service, and delicious food. Good food, excellent service, great aesthetic! My friends and I stopped here this morning on our way to Philly. Sincerely just typed "breakfast" into the maps app and chose a spot not too far off our route. We couldn't have been happier with our decision! We were greeted immediately by the hostess who was extremely helpful, explaining our seat choices in great detail. We opted to sit upstairs which gave a cute surprise view of the train set! Our waitress was also helpful, kind, and quick. The food was quick out as well. I ordered the banana stuffed French toast. Delicious. My friends enjoyed their breakfast burritos. My wife and I went for breakfast unexpectedly. We were exploring the area after going to the local butcher shop and realized we were hungry. I got the omelet. I loved that you got to choose whatever you wanted to put into it and they just made it for you. It was delicious. My wife loved her eggs and pancakes. Our server was a delight! Lovely facade of an old bank turned restaurant. We were in Harrisburg metro and popped in for lunch. Restaurant was booming at lunchtime and we were able to secure a small booth. Seemed to be a lot of regulars who are well acquainted with staff and menu. The Rachel sandwich is good. Sauerkraut, turkey breast and Swiss on grilled rye. Came with chips but added fries. Server dropped off the plate and never came back. So ketchup was not available with fries. Maddening. The burrito came with prepackaged tubes of sour cream and guacamole, functional but lacks aesthetic. Chips were not served as ordered but was replaced by rice pilaf. What? Again the server never came back till the check was required. The check is a paper receipt left on the table. This place is awesome. We came in for lunch before 12pm. The place was packed. We got a table for 4. The menu is big. We ordered the open face turkey and roast beef. The Rachel and a salad w/ real chicken. My tower of turkey came out. Wow. Tons of food. Turkey, dressing, mash, gravy, broccoli, and cranberry. The entire plate was full. The roast beef was no different. The salad plate was full of greens and a grilled chicken breast. Finally, the Rachel was a big sangawich. Everything was big. Did i say that already? Anyway, the food was great. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was playful and on the ball. Constantly checking in on us. I highly recommend this place. We decided to try this place before a Christmas train ride down the street at the Milk and Honey Railroad. We had two families and a senior citizen couple. Group included two preschoolers and one senior who is large and has mobility issues. Parking/Entrance- Nice side lot next to the building. It's a decent walk around the side to the corner/main door. The main door has some steps to them, but a ramp is on the side of the building. Please note, that the ramp is long and you have to walk the length of the building to get to the entrance of the ramp, which then doubles back the length of the building, to have you enter in the back, which again you walk the length of to get to the host. While wheelchair friendly is a long slow walk for someone with a cane. Ambiance- The building is an old bank I believe so the architecture doesn't seem traditional restaurant, which is very cool. We were there at an off time for dinner (2:00p ish) so not busy. Although rumor is the place is KNOWN for their breakfast/brunch and lines can form. There's not a ton of seating, and I could see if it was full it would be tight. They had an upstairs that offered more seating, but I only saw stairs, so not sure if there's an elevator. Staff- Everyone was friendly and had a very "diner" feel. They treated everyone like neighbors and regulars. Very friendly and accommodating. It felt very cozy, but also had a nice dining feel. Food- Unfortunately I'm struggling remembering what everyone ordered, but there were no complaints for our group of 8. In fact we were all amazing at how much food, and the quality of food, for such a reasonable price point. Our group was really impressed with this cafe. It is not in our normal eating radius, but we all mentioned we would come back in heart beat. This is great spot for a family outing, especially in the "off" times. A short drive from the terminal, this restaurant is in the heart of Middletown. They hostess sat us up in balcony and we had a great view of the old bank building. They have a model train set running above the first floor. The menu is extensive and the had some specials. I ordered the meatloaf and my wife had the Wisconsin shepherd's pie. Both were delicious. Arrived at the Brownstone Cafe about 2:30. About half the tables were full. Wife and I had crab soup. It was delicious. She had a salad and I had a Reuben. Both were fantastic. Got seated immediately, waitress was very friendly and engaging. She took our orders when we were ready. Food came out quickly. Wifes salad had nothing but the freshest ingredients. My Reuben was hot and perfectly cooked. Can't say enough great things about this place. If we lived closer I could see myself eating there once or twice a week. Business travel can definitely have a perk, and finding this beautiful restaurant was a positive after a long day of flying. This restaurant was previously a bank, and its transition to a restaurant is just astounding. Service is kind and prompt, and the food was tasty. I ordered chicken and waffles, and it is not like any chicken and waffles I have ever tasted. Instead of the the regular fried chicken on top of a waffle with syrup and hot sauce, this version is a waffle topped with chicken chunks in gravy. The waffle is slightly sweet, and it pairs well with the gravy. I also got mashed potatoes and a salad with bacon salad dressing as my sides. The salad dressing is sweet, and also a bit unusual in that regard. The mashed potatoes were outstanding, as they were the real deal - mashed with skins on (the way I like them) - topped with that same chicken gravy. While it was an unusual dish, I would still passionately recommend this restaurant. No one in our party of four was disappointed in the meal - huge, tasty portions in a beautiful setting. read more

This was my second visit to Brownstone Cafe, and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The restaurant was a former bank, and still holds some of the historic banks characteristics. You can see the old vault in the waitress station with a list of which banked historically occupied the building. The restaurants has perfect charm and atmosphere with tall windows and a second level of seating that overlooks the bottom floor. The menu had many options for whatever you may be craving. I had the Balboa Stuffed French Toast with blueberries which was paired with fresh fruit. My friend had English muffins with sausage and gravy. We could tell that the sausage gravy was made from scratch since there were big chunks of sausage in it. Both meals were filling and portioned well, and most importantly, delicious! The restaurant was packed when we arrived at around 9:00am, and continued to be busy when we left around 10:00am. There's usually a wait time for parties of two or more, but it's not very long since they're able to fit a lot of tables into the restaurant. This is the perfect stop for a homemade breakfast when you're in the Middletown area! Add it to your list! read more

My experience at this local gem has always been a positive one. I'm a central Pennsylvania native, but relocated to Arizona in 2014. Each time I return to the Harrisburg area to see friends and family, I make it a point to dine at this café for the great food and kind serving staff. They make you feel as though you're part of the family. One of my favorite dishes is the seafood chemise, which consists of shrimp, scallops, crab, and mushrooms in a sherry cream sauce, all wrapped in phyllo dough. It has a thin and crispy golden exterior and all that creamy goodness waiting inside. For seafood lovers such as me, it's a must try. But plan carefully - this special dish is only available on Fridays! I dined in today and as usual, was not disappointed. I only wish I were home more often to share in a Brownstone dinner with those I hold dear. I am very pleased with how Brownstone is handling their cleaning and social distancing practices given the challenges associated with COVID-19. Fewer patrons are currently allowed to dine in, providing extra space between tables and creating a larger safety buffer. Masks are required to enter and exit, and are only removed once seated at your table. If dining in a restaurant isn't for you quite yet, I understand. I only started going back into restaurants in the last couple of weeks. For those who don't feel ready, they offer to-go orders by phone. In summary, I'm grateful for this iconic spot that I've been visiting since I was 12 years old when they opened (1998); I'm now 34. I strongly recommend you check it out! read more
