I bought a shotgun that needed a new recoil pad as the installed one was old and hard. When I got the gun back the pad looked like it had been installed by a poor amateur. They had just taken a pad that was close in size and slapped it on. The pad was not fitted to the buttstock, ans was not even tightened down. So not only does it look poorly done it is loose. The shotgun is old,but I would have thought they would have function tested it as it will not load the last round in the magazine. I bought this as a home defense gun and now I need to find a reputable smith to redo the pad and check the gun out for safety. Very disappointed in Gator's "Custom" Gunshop. You also need to be careful when buying there, I was looking at a Charter Arms revolver which said .32 mag on the tag and was assured by the younger "gunsmith" that it is a .327 mag. It turns out that it is a .32 H&R mag! A much softer and totally different round. So either he does not know what he is talking about, or just doesn't give a s&*t! If you go there talk to Mike. He seems to know what he is talking about and if he doesn't he will tell you. As far as gun work, look elsewhere. read more

Been by here several times. They always put up with my beginner level questions even when they are busy. Plus I have noticed that they don't put a huge mark up on their items. My 68 year old mother in law went into Gators and wanted to buy a self defense pistol. She lives alone and her neighborhood has been having problems. Gators sold her a Ruger LCP in 22 lr. The problem is, they just handed her a gun, checked to see if she liked the feel of it and sold it to her with extras. She cannot manipulate the slide or even put bullets in the magazine. Older people sometimes have issues with their hands and fingers. I find it dishonest and borderline negligent that the salespeople do not insure that people can operate the things they sell. Often older people have this problem. She would probably be better off with a revolver or a tilt barrel, possibly even a Deranger. I am very disappointed in Gators. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Yes, it is small but they have a great inventory crammed in the place plus a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I had been shopping at the big box sporting goods stores for a particular new gun when I decided to swing by and see what they had. Sure enough they had all the variations of the gun I was looking for at a price almost exactly $100 less than the store I had just left. The purchase process was quick and easy as well. I am definitely going to go back and also spread the word. A bonus was just the down home feeling you got in the place which is still a huge advantage over the on-line and big box stores. read more

Gator's Guns is as good as it gets. I have purchased weapons over the years from most if not all of the major shops in the Vancouver-Portland area. This would include Keith's Sporting Goods, Sportsman's Warehouse, Fisherman's Marine, Walmart-you get the idea. From day one you get the accurate impression that these folks know what they are talking about and take the time to take care of their customers by stocking firearms they might need. Gator's also was the only store in a 300 mile radius (that is as far as I looked!) that had a great selection of ammo when nobody else had hardly any. From talking with Benjamin (Wally's son) to Wally himself you will get knowledgeable help as well as a friendly conversation. We have a mutual friend who has known Wally all his life and Wally has been a stand up guy and a quality person all of his life. Not too many people know Wally has another full-time job that he also holds down and fortunately/unfortunately Wally's great reputation means his store is always busy. He has a great sense of humor, you just have to get to know him. My Wife has worked with Wally in his other profession and he has always been a perfect gentleman to her for which I am grateful (and honestly would expect no less). Give this place a couple of visits and talk with Wally and Benjamin and get to know them if you can. You won't be disappointed. read more

A friend recommended we drive the hour to check this place out. So glad we did. Benjamin is young but knows what he's taking about. I went looking for a .380 to carry. He was thorough and didn't pressure me. It was my first gun purchase but I wasn't made to feel dumb. I told him about a WW Commemorative Colt .45 I have. He had me bring it in and researched it for me (since it was my father's and I knew nothing about it). Ammo is cheap. They are FAMILY run. Nothing better than that. Normally when I have gone in to gators they are pleasant informative and helpful. Until last Saturday I went in to see about getting my sons competition shotgun on the list to be fixed the firing pin is getting weak. The gentleman barked at me and my son as soon as we came in said he was to busy to look at it and he won't be able to take it till June 1st and I won't get it back till the next June first. I was pretty put off by his attitude but then he made it worse he told me that if my son was a good kid I should buy him a new gun. Fine and dandy if I have that kind of money but I'm a single mom! And his dad doesn't pay child support I do this all on my own. Trap is a very expensive sport as is and I certainly did not need anyone shamming me for not being able to pay for a better gun. I left the store and cried in my car I told my son how sorry I am that he is a good kid and he does deserve a nice gun. I will never ever ever go back to gators they made me feel so small and worthless I suggest you don't go either!! read more
