I am not quite sure where to begin... I will start by saying that 5 stars is bullshit for what Gavin does. There should honestly be a category for the true elite and masters of what they do. Gavin is by far in that Category of Amazing/Elite/Top of the Line. Almost a year and a half ago when I was looking for photographers I spoke to many many different people. I heard what they had to say and saw the type of pictures that they took, and what they charged for their services. I was having a wedding that was probably a few hours longer than the normal wedding. Actually, it was a 3 day wedding and we had approximately 500 guests. Because I was paying for my own wedding, I was much more picky that probably someone who had their father pay for the wedding. I was soooooo beyond picky that I probably even have Gavin a hard time. For that I am sorry. But this guy is amazing. The pictures from our wedding are beyond beautiful. I got married about a year ago and to this day I have random people that I do not know, comment on the wedding from the pictures that they saw on facebook. Gavin was there for just about the entire wedding! That is sooo soo many hours. And he was able to capture just about every significant moment. That is a very tough job to do in the over 12 hours that he was with us. His advice and guidance on what to do for the pictures was so helpful and almost a year later, I still can't stop looking at the pictures and can't find an expensive enough picture frame to put the few pictures that we have printed. Gavin is so incredible that even after the wedding when I was a total groomzilla (again, I paid for my own wedding so I was still annoying for months after), he worked with some of my pictures and was so concerned about me being happy and satisfied. Do not consider any other person to capture your most important moments. Gavin deserves whatever award can be offered the most talented person in his industry! I will never use anyone else but him. So Gavin, don't die on me or move to Europe. I won't be able to afford you. Thank you for everything that you captured for us. Those moments don't have a price for us so thank you for keeping the price so so low! And Brides, Gavin is Mr. sexyman. So everyone will enjoy smiling at the camera when Mr. Pretty is shooting away, especially the horny bridesmaids ;-) read more

Everyone knows that planning for a wedding is a costly expense. The biggest expense I was willing to splurge on was, hands down, our photography. It's what keeps and shares all the memories of the day and shares the little things that maybe we did or didn't see, so we can relive the magic of the day time and time again. I have a lot of friends and family who are photographers who how to get behind the camera and shoot away. So I wasn't looking for just any photographer. It had to be one that would as good as or surpass my friend/family photographers because lets face it, I'm paying someone to immortalize one of the best and memorable days of my life. I wanted someone who had an eye to be able to capture the perfect candid moments to be able to feel the joy, love and emotions of the day. I spent HOURS and days looking for the perfect photographer. When I stumbled upon Gavin's work/portfolio, it was perfect. I love his style of photography, with the light airiness and crisp photos. From the close up shots of the details of the day, to a pano view of the wedding grounds and party/guests, to the actual moments of the day, all the photos were amazing and spectacular. Gavin was great to work with from beginning to end. Even though we live in Sac and Gavin is in the bay area, he was accommodating when we needed to meet up or if things could be done via email. I love his photography approach in wanting to "be a fly on the wall" to capture the memories instead of posing for every shot. He was realistic with his timeline on when he would get photos, photo album proofs back to us and stayed within that time frame. I would recommend Gavin to anyone who wants a photographer to capture those priceless moments that you want to last for forever. He's worth the investment!! Frankly, 5 stars is not a high enough rating. Gavin was an integral part of making our wedding great, from providing some help on the planning side, to communicating effectively and quickly, to getting to know us and understand what we felt were the most important parts of our day. And not only was the work product exceptional and well represented by the portfolio on his website, but Gavin was a wonderful presence at our ceremony, beautifully and naturally capturing all of the small moments between us and our guests while meshing seamlessly with the larger group, at no point feeling intrusive. I love Gavin. He is an amazing photographer, is so easy to work with, and his experience is invaluable. I wanted a photographer who could capture beautiful candid photos that I would cherish forever, and Gavin did just that. I was amazed at some of the photos he captured - quick fleeting moments that I did not expect anyone to capture, and he not only caught them on camera but made them look good! I usually hate the way I look in candid photos but Gavin somehow managed to not only capture every emotion of the day but also in the most flattering way! His photos are beautiful - but beyond that he is an amazing resource. I reached out to Gavin many times during the planning process when I needed wedding expertise. From how to do my makeup (he was more helpful than my makeup artist in determining which look would photograph best) to creating a timeline for the day, Gavin was the vendor/expert that I relied on and trusted the most. I first discovered Gavin through a friend who described him as her "photographer/wedding planner" and now I know why! Planning a wedding is very stressful and there are so many details to consider, and Gavin has seen it all. On the wedding day itself, I was so glad to have Gavin there. Gavin was a pleasure to work with. His style is candid photos that really capture people and their emotions. We had so many great photos of friends and family at the wedding (in addition to ourselves of course) that captured people so well that we printed and framed dozens of photos to give to friends and families as gifts. His style is not heavily photoshopped, artificially colored images that are trying to look as glamorous and picturesque as possible. He and his assistants were responsive to email, and laid out a beautiful wedding album for us. They were very accommodating to our requests for changes and helpful making recommendations based on their expertise. Gavin is on the soft-spoken side, and he tends to be more in the background (so he can capture candid photos). As a result, while we do fully recommend Gavin, we have the following recommendations: * For formal photos, if you have a loud and/or bossy and/or commanding family member or friend, get them to be in charge of loudly calling the names of people who should come for photos * If you work with a videographer who is on the louder or bossier side, understand what their preferred style is (e.g. more candid or more staged). If it's a different style to Gavin's, and you care more about your photos than video (like we did), talk to both parties beforehand and establish who generally is "in charge" and runs the show so that you're not pulled in different directions by different desires on the day. read more

Gavin and Grace are my new BFF's. Not only do they make me look good but they answer my emails and phone calls when I most need it, they'll even tell me if I have food in my teeth. Who else but a best friend would do all those things? On a serious note though, I've thoroughly enjoyed working with both of them. Gavin and Grace drove down to San Diego for our first meeting. Gavin then drove back down to take our engagement photos, which were absolutely amazing. He even jumped into the freezing cold water while trying to capture a beach shot of us (in October!). Both Gavin and Grace then made all their way to San Jose for our wedding. Gavin is so easy to work with and will entertain all our crazy picture ideas (the husband boosted me up into a tree with my wedding dress on and subsequently called Gavin called my husband names when he refused to climbing the tree himself!). The quality of our finished photos were absolutely gorgeous. The turn around time was exceptional. And the big big bonus? We worked with Gavin for our wedding this fall. Overall a great experience. We were very relaxed about the whole thing --I'm not the controlling type who felt the need to micromanage every shot or moment. Fundamentally, Gavin was responsible and professional and we were able to trust him to shoot the wedding without him needing oversight or management. He was responsive and timely, upfront about costs, and we LOVE that he delivered the photos digitally via Dropbox without restricting our ability to upload them to Facebook etc. (Although we still haven't gotten around to it...) Finally, the photos were beautiful. We were looking for a "journalistic" style -- not a lot of posed or staged shots, just having the day captured as it unfolded. We ended up with some lovely, authentic shots of this special day. THE NEXT BEST CHOICE OF MY LIFE (besides marrying the man of my life) was choosing Gavin as our wedding photographer. He was like a wedding coordinator/MOH/comedian//vet tech/IT tech/photographer all wrapped into one perfect package! :) He seriously helped through the entire experience of getting married. He's style of shooting is absolutely surreal! He captures candid moments that tells the unstaged moments of a wedding and honestly, thats whats its really about! the "priceless moments" that lil sec! that extra joke, and he captures it all! and its funny because then each photo tells a story about that "special" moment. and it honestly makes you re-live the moment when you see your photos! He was very responsive through email and phone in the months leading up to our wedding and was helpful anytime we had questions or concerns. We decided to go with a package that included an engagement or rehearsal dinner session and opted for the rehearsal dinner option - since everyone invited to the wedding was also invited to our rehearsal dinner, we thought it would be a good opportunity to get all of our guests in a relaxed, casual environment - and we are SO happy we did. Day-of, Gavin was professional, chill, and basically went unnoticed, unless there was something we wanted from him. His sweet spot are those candid moments, so we didn't spend too much time on the "posed" shots (yay!) - but the time we did spend, he got them right (phew)! This meant we actually got to enjoy our cocktail hour and dinner w/ our guests, which was a nice surprise. Gavin's ability to capture precious candid moments (the ones you see with your eyes that resonate with you forever, but are rarely caught on film) that make him such a gifted, thoughtful, genuine, and brilliant photographer. Yes, of course, he takes lovely posed shots, but it's his keen eye for the those special, natural moments that sets him above everyone else. We just got our photos back, and although we had intangibly high expectations, somehow, Gavin (and Tyler!) managed to surpass them. As you will see from the other reviews here, Gavin Farrington Photography is absolutely top notch and anyone who has worked with him or any of his assistants will tell you the same. Gavin & Tyler were absolute rock stars at our May wedding in Carmel Valley, CA. They rose to the challenge of a "two brides, two dresses" wedding and captured amazing photos of both of us. They made us and all of our friends and family look our absolute best, and at the same time, completely natural and casual. They captured each phase of the day from "getting ready" to our "first look," from the ceremony and reception to the late-night dance party perfectly. We received a best-of collection in advance of the full set of photos via his blog that we sent on to friends, family and colleagues that could not attend the wedding. The universal commentary is, "You can feel the love and joy just by looking at the pictures. They tell the story of your wedding so well that it feels like I was there." You can look at Gavin's engagement photos and wedding photos on his website to see how he brings out the best in each couple that he works with. What I personally cherish about our wedding photos, however, is how well Gavin and Tyler captured moments and interactions between our guests - couples, friends, family and especially kids. Lazy pictures and big ego. Based on a referral from my friend, I chose not to do my homework in choosing a wedding photographer. I saw her photos and thought cool he's good. The process of getting to know Gavin was good, at first. He was friendly and keen to connect. I thought it was great and I was really starting to warm up and feel comfortable. However, coming close to the wedding, we had meet ups. During a meet up to discuss wedding details, I was really turned off when he reacted so rude , defensive, and so attacking when I brought up a "list" of photos to take. My intention was not to invalidate the integrity of his job. I was merely wanting to partner with him on the photos and what we can just chat about. He was so offended and was ridiculing me and betting me I got it from theknot or weddingwire (which it was neither), and as he was doing this, throwing his head back, rolling his eyes, and laughing/huffing. I was so shocked and I was so hurt. It was insensitive and so unprofessional. He may do this many of times, but this is my first wedding and I'd like to be a part of it, ESP if I'm signing that over priced check. He apologized that evening for his behavior, but after that, it was enough to make me think twice about him. Should not even have happened. When I tell people, they are appalled, just as I was. Someone else was sitting there so I made sure I wasn't crazy and asked if they saw what I saw. He was shady about his work hours: He was insisting on making his own hours and coming when he wanted. I got the Flex package which is 11am-11pm (I damn well wanted to make sure I got what I was paying for and wanted to get all the photos I could). He thought there was some downtime and would like to conserve his energy since it was going to be a long day and arrive a little bit later, around noon. For real? I am not hiring him to feel cozy and comfortable. I am his client and he was the one worrying about his energy. And honestly, during a wedding, when is the downtime? Nothing more was stressing me out during the wedding process than Gavin. Photos: All the time he would mention his "journalistic" skills and how he's so good. I was a believer, I saw his photos and they spoke for themselves so I didn't deny it. UNTIL I saw mine. Took 2 months to receive my photos. My first reaction was, where was all the artfully thoughtful "moments" photos?? Where were the "journalistic" photos?? Instead I got a useless photo of my feet with my gym socks on while I was getting my makeup done. In my opinion and from another photographer's opinion, he thought, what's that for? The first look, ceremony, reception photos were all a miss. The venue was very unique by having two levels. My friend's iPhone photos were so much more prettier than Gavin, AND his assistants. There were 2 of them and they got such messy and unthoughtful photos. The frames, in my opinion, were so messy. The angles that he took while walking down the aisle was so horrible. Couples usually get an awesome photo walking down the aisle, how can you miss that?! But he completely missed that opportunity. It happens once, and it's lost now. And there was only 1 photo. I asked for all the raw photos but he threw them all away. The photos just came so messy not thoughtfully taken at all. I thought they looked like someone that didn't know how to use a camera just was taking and snapping pictures here and there. There was no thought taken in the photo...no center, so frame, no moment. It was just taken, not "shot" like a professional. There was no thought put into the work from what I saw. I kept reiterating the mood of the wedding which was all candles/romantic type of mood...so warm lighting. He said he got it and was so confident. And whenever I did mentioned anything I wanted, he had that ego and attitude and that moody defensive energy. I hated it and made me feel so awful. When I saw the pictures, the flash/edit was so bright and the photo did not convey the mood of the wedding. There were ridiculous repeat photos. The same expression, same position, same people was duplicated. There were no capturing of moments pictures. Where was the assistant?! With two of them, why isn't there better photos? I wonder this all the time and it's so annoying. In this case, the phrase, "you get what you pay for" does not apply. I wish I got someone cheaper that would of tried more. The photos I got just looked so lazy. There was no thought put into it. I keep saying that because that's what I got. Just very surfaced pictures with no story, no "journalism." This only good photos that came out of this disappointment was the scenic photos. It seems like that's all he's good at, in this case, because the gorgeous background did all the work for him. He just really needed to snap the camera. Huge disappointment. I consider myself as a fair person and I evaluate each situation, this was one of those that was really a shame. I don't reccommend Gavin. read more

Our wedding ceremony was a court house wedding. Not at the fancy San Francisco city hall, but at a county office chapel, which simply has a podium and some seats in an office room. I was first concerned that there would not be much to photograph, and consulted with Gavin. He reassured me, and pointed out that the photos I liked from his blog were mostly from simple hotel rooms. Talking with him before the day really relieved my typical before-the-wedding stress. Gavin treated my small-scale wedding the way he would treat a huge rich wedding. For your lifetime event, you want to be surrounded by people you are completely comfortable with. Gavin is naturally gifted in making people feel relaxed and supported. He is down to earth and honest in his suggestions, and very cooperative so as to make your day an enjoyable experience. Needless to say, his photography captured how people enjoyed the day. I hired Gavin to shoot my wedding in September 2010. I can't say enough good things about the photos. We chose Gavin as our photographer because we liked what we saw when it came to the way he captures the scene and light and people. And I'm really happy with the way the photos turned out. He saw things that I didn't even notice - the red and pink flowers on all the trees during the toasts and some of the dancing; they became backdrops to the action and the color looks amazing in the photos. There's also really great portraits of guests - caught as they reacted to toasts or chatted during cocktail hour. Details, overviews, people, ceremony, formal portraits, dancing - they all look good. He knows how to be in the right place at the right time. During the formal portraits, he double-checked with me at the end to make sure we had taken every photo on my list and even reminded me of one of our couple photo ideas that we had forgotten about! Our wedding was outside with various light conditions - some shade, lots of bright sun, dappled shade, sunset, and dark with string lights (and people wearing light-up glasses!). Gavin captured the light, the mood, the atmosphere and the joy amazingly well. He always responds to emails and phone calls in a timely manner, and if's he's busy or traveling he'll still respond and let you know when he'll have time to answer your questions. I had an absolutely amazing experience working with Casey from Gavin Farrington photography this June when I proposed to my now Fiancé. Not only did she drive up from the city to Napa to capture the moment, but she was always available for planning and coordination. My husband and I are absolutely thrilled with our wedding photos from Gavin Farrington Photography! We had no idea where to begin our search for a photographer in the Bay Area. Thankfully, we found Gavin through a coworker's friend, a professional videographer, who'd met him while working another wedding. Gavin's rates and packages are well-priced - and both the quality and quantity of the edited photos we received were outstanding. After an initial phone consultation with Gavin to discuss his style and philosophy (then, of course, reviewing his beautiful work, which speaks for itself), we decided all of the above were a good fit to our expectations and preferences for our own wedding pictures. We ultimately chose a package to have Gavin's associate, Casey, and second photographer, Shelley, photograph our big day. Both photographers were absolutely wonderful to work with; they have such friendly personalities, provided excellent direction, and are incredibly talented, capturing the important moments of our wedding so beautifully. My fiance and I searched high-and-low for a photographer for our engagement photos, and we weren't even sure that we wanted an "e-session." But after Gavin called me to follow-up with an email I had sent to him inquiring about his services I knew he was the one. Professional, willing to listen and hear our ideas and also willing to think outside of the box and offer suggestions, Gavin was the perfect fit for us. First, Gavin traveled quite a ways to accommodate a shoot with us north of Napa and the minute we met him we were comfortable with him (even though we claim to be camera-shy). We looked at so many portfolios, losing count after 30+. Then we found Gavin. We immediately liked his style when we saw his work. When I read Gavin's story, I immediately had a good vibe about him. When we met him, my instincts were confirmed. We are happy that we went with Gavin! To this day, I believe that selecting Gavin as our wedding photographer was one of the best decisions we made throughout the entire wedding planning process. I used Gavin Farrington to photograph a surprise marriage proposal at Stow Lake in San Francisco. My Fiancé and had never been to San Francisco but she had always wanted to take a trip there. I had also never been to the city but Gavin made me feel like I had been there countless times. Unbelievable Service! I hadn't ever been to San Francisco so planning my proposal there was a little tough. I came across Gavin's website and saw that he had captured peoples proposals in the past and thought he might be able to give me some advice. I didn't realize then just how much of an impact he was going to have on making that moment the best it could have ever been! I told him the location and the plan I had come up with and the next day he went out on his own to scope it out. He came back with some suggestions on how to make it better and sent me photos he had quickly grabbed with his phone. He helped plan out a better angle and an exact location for me to stand in to make sure we were set up for the best pictures possible. The moment went flawlessly (she said yes!), and he even stayed an extra hour longer just to capture pictures of my fiancé and myself out on a row boat with champagne to celebrate! Then, as if that wasn't enough, he even offered to drive us to our dinner reservations on the other side of the city! His professionalism and service was incredible. But the best part of it all came a few weeks later when he sent us the photos! They could not have come out any better, they look like they came out of a movie or magazine.
