Keating Beach Park is off the beaten path at the far north end of the Hollywood Boardwalk. This park was named in honor of former Hollywood Mayor David Keating. He served as a City Commissioner and Mayor from 1961 to 1986. In 1963 he took a walk on this stretch of beach and it cemented in his mind that it should remain public. For the next two decades he led the fight to save this strip of beach from Sheridan Street to the Hollywood-Dania Beach line from Hollywood Inc., a development company that claimed they owned it, not the city. On September 4, 1981, the Fourth District Court of Appeal sided with the city and decided that the 1.5 mile of beach belonged to the city. Anyone who uses the beach here today has David Keating to thank. Today Keating Beach Park is under construction. It looks like there is structural damage to the pavilion and it is fenced off. There is no parking in this area either. The restrooms are closed and the slide is gone. Still the beach remains a glorious wide strip on sundrenched sand. This area is frequented more by locals than tourists. Here is to hopping that Hollywood gets the repairs done and opens this area back up soon.

The sand is so soft and clean, with not a single bit of seaweed. This was so surprising, as just a few miles away there was a substantial amount of seaweed. There were palm trees that offered a perfect amount of shade if you prefer to lie and read your book or take a nap on the beach. Be sure to layer on the sunscreen, I used an SPF 60, and still walked away a bit flushed. The water was very comfortable and clean. I took a swim a few times, and this is in April. Why can't every beach be like Keating Beach? But wait... there was a lady who came and was yelling profanities, I thought she was on her phone, but she was actually just venting loudly to herself. She had all eyes on her, there was no stopping her. I suppose that's one way to exercise your freedom of speech! Keating Beach is as perfect as they come. Hopefully you won't encounter the minor interruption like I did.

Whether you want to swim, relax, fly a kite, or just enjoy the breeze, this place delivers. One of the coolest things about Haulover is how much it offers in one area picnic spots, tennis courts, a marina, walking paths, and even a dog park. There's also a clearly marked clothing-optional section, which is respectful and well organized for those who choose to visit it. Parking is convenient (though it can fill up on weekends), restrooms and outdoor showers are available, and lifeguards are usually on duty. The atmosphere feels safe, relaxed, and welcoming for families, couples, and solo visitors alike. If you're looking for a beach that's less chaotic than South Beach but still full of life and options, Haulover Park is a must-visit. I always enjoy my time here and keep coming back.

Most folks were very friendly. There was one guy shouting random things about Eddie Money.. not sure why. There was also a verbal altercation a few groups over but the beach patrol talked everyone down and it was fine. The beach Cafe was pretty awesome. You can have food and drinks delivered to you on the beach. There are also Umbrella and Chair rentals and they do all the set up and tear down for you. I would go again.
