We chose this office specifically because it was recommended by the Autism Society of Tidewater…read moreVirginia. When a practice carries that kind of recommendation, families like mine come in expecting intentional, proactive accommodations for children on the spectrum -- not just general kindness. While this experience was better than our previous non-pediatric dentist, there are important areas that need improvement if this office is going to continue being recommended for autistic children. For example, once I informed the receptionist that my son is on the spectrum, we should have automatically been placed in the quiet room rather than starting in a large, open space and being moved later. That initial environment matters. Waiting times were also longer than ideal. I understand delays happen, but extended waiting significantly increases anxiety for many children on the spectrum and should be factored into scheduling decisions. During the appointment, the pace felt rushed, and there was limited effort to walk my child through each step before it happened. For many neurodivergent children, preparation and slower transitions aren't optional -- they are essential. Taking an extra few minutes to explain and move gradually could make a significant difference in the overall experience. Additionally, the office itself appears rundown and in need of a deep clean, fresh paint, and attention to the lobby area. A calming, well-maintained environment is part of creating a sensory-considerate space. On a positive note, the staff was friendly, and the dentist answered my questions thoroughly and provided helpful recommendations for supporting my child's dental care at home. My hope in sharing this is that the practice will consider additional autism-specific training and more intentional systems so families who seek them out for this reason truly receive the level of support they expect and deserve.

Our experience with Dr. Weis at the ambulatory surgical center was deeply upsetting and…read moreunprofessional. Our daughter was placed under general anesthesia for dental treatment, and we were told she needed all four front baby teeth extracted due to decay. We were never shown the X-rays, and we were not given a chance to fully discuss or understand the alternatives beforehand. Mid-surgery -- while our daughter was already under anesthesia -- we were approached and asked to sign a "refusal of treatment" form. This came after we questioned the necessity of removing all four teeth. It was shocking, emotional, and completely inappropriate to force a high-stakes decision at that point, under pressure. When we refused the extractions, no treatment was done on 3 of the 4 front teeth, and we were told by the nurse that fillings would "fail" due to the size of the teeth. This decision felt rushed and unsupported -- we received no explanation ahead of time, only a defensive conversation with Dr. Weis after the fact, where he attempted to justify his decisions instead of acknowledging our right to be fully informed. This was a clear example of "white coat syndrome" -- using authority to override parental input -- and a disturbing instance of "drill and bill" practices, where invasive procedures are pushed with minimal discussion. These were baby teeth that would fall out naturally shortly. We are relieved we stopped the extractions, but no parent should have to make this kind of decision while their child is already sedated. If you're considering working with Dr. Weis, get a second opinion first, and don't be afraid to ask hard questions. Trust your gut.

I had a exhausting and extremely disappointed interaction with mrs sandra who explains the appointments needed to be done before he can go under for the dental work . She is a awful miserable unprofessional woman who wastes time energy and effort . My son is not biologically mine i have had full custody since he was born . She referred to me as my sons custodian. First off lady i am his mother and that is what you will call me . The call continues we need to know his. Pediatric Dr . She said my sons DR claims to not know who he is . Laughable is a understatement they have been my sons dr since birth . I told her they would be callling her right now . I called my sons dr . By the way my sons dr is absolutely amazing . They told me they have spoken to this woman many times and she knows they are his dr and they callled her right away again . I had a 2 year old and newborn son. They allowed me to bring them both and helped me the whole time take care of my boys. As my family grew and I became pregnant again, they treated me like family. They always allow me to make appointments for all three of my son's and myself at the same time. Sue, the hygienist, is literally the best in the business. She is so friendly and sweet and remembers everything about my family. Dr. Contract is so amazing. When my oldest son was 5, he needed some extensive dental work. She recommended a pediatric dentist but that person wanted to do thousands of dollars worth of work in a hospital setting. I went back to Dr. Contract and she did the work in her office for a fraction of the cost...under $100. She made my 5 year old feel like he was just having his teeth cleaned. He had to have a root canal and he doesn't remember any of it (he's 10 now). He has NO anxiety from the experience and adores her. I have recommended this practice to everyone I meet. Dr. Contract has come in on weekends and holidays to help some family and friends with dental emergencies. She takes pride in her profession and really cares about the patients. I will never go to another dentist a long as Williamsburg Smiles exists. The staff are amazing and truly care about each of their patients.

A patient next to us got up about 25 minutes later and rescheduled their appointment because it was now 8:50 and they had yet to be seen. At 9:20 my daughter stated she needed to potty so I took her in to the potty as we were in there they started calling our names. This is after we had asked the receptionist where the bathroom was. As we walked out we stated to that same receptionist that we were in the bathroom and she replied with a very snarky well they have called your name a few times already. We got inside the dentist barely looked in my kids mouth so not much care there either. As we were leaving they asked if we wanted to reschedule to which we stated no. When asked why we told her that we had been waiting for an hour with no communication from staff. Only to be told that both 8 am hygienists had called in so they didn't have staff.
