I've been staying in local hotels for business near this establishment. Not being local, I'm not up on south Texas restaurant culture, but from the outside this place looked like a strip mall counter fast food soup place. Gazpacho's is unassuming from the outside, but the food is great. I ordered Nano Empanadas, my wife had Las Tablitas tacos, and we shared. Both were quite good, but I most enjoyed the empanadas. Our server provided prompt and efficient service, although very business-like and unsmiling. The complementary carrot and chocolate cakes were an unexpected bonus. If you are ever a party of two here and have both cakes set before you, l recommend you dive for the carrot cake before your partner gets to it. Or if she looks like she expects sharing, at least be the guy wielding the knife and dividing the pieces. It was a very enjoyable dinner. read more

I was there for the first time during my lunch break, so unfortunately I wasn't able to stay longer but the short time I was there.. I noticed the type of vibes and environment it has .. Thanks to the friendly service they provided and artsy decorations, it was an enjoyable non typical experience.I personally tried both soups they offer and they were amazingly delicious and the paninis with a lemonade and Crème brûlée dessert. Tonight was our first time going to Gazpacho's - it was SO good! First, we ordered beer, which was delivered to our table with frosty glasses. Then the waiter brought us warm, crusty bread with some sort of magical rosemary butter - it was really tasty. My husband got the Pollo Alicante, which he said was very good. I got the Da Vinci panini, which was delicious! Besides the great food, the service was great - the waiter was attentive without being pesky. Great place to eat for lunch or dinner. Great atmosphere, customer service and food. My wife and I came to try this place after watching a couple of Food Channel episodes of eating in France and Spain. We tried the ceviche, Azteca soup (which comes w/ tortilla strips, fresh avocado and cheese), fresh bread, chicken stuff avocado salad (comes with fresh fruit) and the Gazpacho's Fantastico Panini (comes with chips). All freshly served and fulfilling. Highly recommend all of the mentioned especially the Azteca soup, ceviche and Panini. We also added a couple glasses of red and white wine to appropriately accompanied the great food and didn't disappoint. Our server (older gentleman) was kind, attentive and generous. I thought the price was really good taking in consideration the quality of food. For what I describe up top the bill came out to about $36. Definitely recommend and can't wait to visit again. read more

The quality of food is unquestionably good; however it's not good enough to justify the pricing. And it's certainly not good enough to justify the poor, snobbish service. Most people eat out, not just to have tasty food, but so that they don't have to cook at home. It's nice to have someone else do the work and at least pretend that they're happy to do it. If you get treated poorly or outright ignored for service at a restaurant, you'll take your business elsewhere. We'll be taking ours elsewhere from now on. read more

My first quibble: My salad included a free stink bug. To their credit, they took the salad off of the bill. My second quibble: My "mixed greens" were a mix of romaine lettuce and green bug. I'm never going to trust that phrase again. They almost merit a second star for the awesome Azteca soup. It was pretty delicious. Just stay away from the salad! read more

I am giving it three stars for the followin reasons: The food is very good and my wife and I really enjoy the place, BUT they only have two childrens highchair for the whole restaurant (we went there on a Sunday and had to leave because there were other children using the high chairs) and the waitress was not a happy camper. Service was great. The bread that they serve right before you order is DELICIOUS!!! And the spread that it comes with is simply to die for. I ordered a sandwich that came with chips, and added a jalapeño. Really though, it was super tasty. And their lemonade was also really good. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the price, but it's supposed to be a somewhat upscale-feel-type of place, so I guess it's expected. So good! We got the lemon butter salmon, da Vinci panini, and jimmys special tacos and they were all spectacular. When we got there to take the food to go, one employee gave us a seat and gave us complimentary lemon water. The service was great, the food came out on time, the food was so delicious! One of my favorite places in Brownsville. They have several items that make it hard to choose between one and the other. One of my favorite items is the poblano soup, a little complicated to eat with the cheese melting in it, but totally delicious. Sopa azteca is a tortilla soup that is also very tasty. My favorite sub is the pepito, I do not remember the cut of beef it has but it is very juicy. The bread is also delicious, so it makes all the subs taste very good and not like subway or quiznos kind of sub. Their salads are also very fresh with delicious dressings. Too bad they do not have alcohol anymore because they used to have a great wine selection and great margaritas. This place is great for a date or to have a nice dinner and a good conversation with your close friends. read more

I really enjoyed my Azteca soup here. The atmosphere is nice and very Cafe like. We were both wearing t shirts board shorts and flip flops for a day of summer fun-- when we walked in everyone was in NICE clothing. Even the waiter was far better dressed than us and he kind of looked at us like-- really? Lol. I felt underdressed. But I wasn't expecting to go somewhere dressy! Everything was delicious! Looking at the outside and sign I right it was going to be like a soup and salad place. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of their menu. The spread served with the bread brought to the table was so creamy and tasted of pesto. So good! My strawberry lemonade is so refreshing. I got the soup & submarine combo. Everything was delicious but they need to work on their portions. The soup while delicious was a bowl not a cup which would have been better seeing as the sub plate came with a generous side salad and a whole sub sandwich cut in 2. I a1/3 is my soup all of my salad and only took a bite is my delicious sub sandwich in which I declared to my fiancé that I was full! Gazpacho's is One of our favorite restaurants. Have eaten there four or five times and have never had a bad meal. The restaurant is small and quaint, atmosphere charming with original paintings on the wall by various artist that may be purchased. Their menu is diverse with tortilla soup specialty of the house. The music is soft so that one could easily hold a conversation. Staff are very attentive and the liquor prices are extremely reasonable. The Aztec soup is awesome. Worth a visit just to try this soup. However, the service is HORRIBLE. The servers treat the customers as though it is an inconvenience for them to accommodate your request, whatever it might be, whether a drink refill or to check on the entrée order that is taking longer than expected. A quaint little place that deserves more credit. We were not sure about having a family party in such a small place with mixed reviews but it was good decision after all. Most reviewers complained about tapas not being "authentic" and they were not. That means that if you order empanadas you will get one huge empanada instead of a small shareable order. However, that empanada is golden, flaky and delicious! Everything that we ordered was good and fresh if a little bland. The prices may seem steep at first before you realize how generous the servings are. The service was great and the place seems to be frequented by companies of elderly toting around a box of dominoes which is usually a good sign. They even allow you to bring your own alcohol and my only complaint is the $10 uncorking fee. Will definitely come back on our next visit. read more

I was chiiling at a nearby hotel and wandered here for lunch. Damn, I'm glad I did. I had the #2 combo: soup, sandwich and salad. The waiter was very cool and helpful. He said I had to try their Azteca soup, claiming no one he's seved it to has EVER not liked it. If I didn't like it he said I could replace it with any other soup on the menu. Yep, I liked it, very much. It was just the right kind of spicy, with sides of sour cream, avacado and tortilla strips to mix in. Delicious. The salad was romaine lettuce with ranch, and I opted for the turkey sandwich. Again, simple and delicious. Oh yeah, the coffee was the best (strong, fresh, black) I've had in weeks. The comp bread, warm and brushed with olive oil, was super. This little place stands out in an otherwise fairly generic shopping plaza. Why the hell go to the nearby Chilis or Ihop when you can get a far superior and healthful feed here? read more

I had been wanting to check this place out because everyone told me the walls are covered with different artwork. I was curious to see the display. The place is AWESOME! I loved the atmosphere and I loved the food. I love everything about this place down to the quality of the napkins. I shared the ceviche and it was really good. Extra limey just the way I like it.The best part of my visit was the sangria. It had big chunks of pineapple, watermelon, strawberries and cantalope marinated in the wine to PERFECTION! I had the #2 combo (soup, salad and sandwich) and I have to agree with the Yelp reviewers, I really enjoyed the Azteca soup. It is just a tomato soup with chipotle sauce in it which gives it a kick, but they bring you sides of avocado, cheese, tortilla chips and sourcream to dress your soup to your liking. I ordered the flan for dessert and the presentation was amazing, but the taste of the flan was just ok. The flan was the only thing that didnt wow me.
