I rarely, ok never give ANYTHING 5 stars...because really what do you need to do to be 5 star??? Perfect right? RIGHT! Ok, so if you like fish and chips then you will love this place. Park in back walk right in get up there and order the cod (half order meal) and prawns if there are 2 of you. You will get a mouth-watering, perfectly fried, set of cod and 5-6 prawns that are shaped into a ring (trust me they are ridiculously good. The tarter sauce is perfect, the chips (fries) are a nice compliment. The amazing thing about this place is the authenticity, taste, and the good people that run it. Soccer or Football if you prefer (not american football) is running as constant as it can and there are jerseys lining the wall. There isn't a ton of seating space and on fridays and weekends it can fill up quickly so be patient or get there early. The prices are a bit steep but #1 you didn't have to fly to London #2 the food is BETTER (yeah I said it) than 99% of those fish and chip shacks in London and we are lucky enough to have it right here in Denver....go figure. This may be like places in Europe, although I was not impressed. Price was pretty high, mostly when you consider how much of you fish is batter and how much is actually fish. They have "community seating" (sharing tables, although most of their patrons don't understand this concept and 1 or 2 people will take up a whole table and look at you like you are insane if you ask to share their table. Once when I was there, on a Friday during Lent (you can guess how busy they were) I asked if a seat at the bar was taken and was told that it was being held for the bosses uncle??? dude never showed up the whole time I was there. Guess he is more important than a paying customer though. As expected for any fish and chips place, VERY fatty and oily. Apparently tarter sauce is too expensive to proper serving. I can understand that they think that tarter sauce isn't needed, if thats the case just don't give it out. Tables are dirty, actually the whole place comes off as dirty and unkept. If you get a table outside be prepared to stand inside and wait, wait and wait for your food to come up, they don't have a speaker system outside (mind you there was no place to sit inside due to the 1 or 2 customers taking up a whole table). I just really don't see anything worth going back to this place, sorry, hope the management can do a good scrubbing of the place. On Friday, February 19, 2016, I called in a family meal deal order. The very nice gal who took my order stated it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived after 25 minutes and there was a line out the door. I peeked in and saw a large to-go order waiting at the bar, and told the bartender my name and said "I believe that is my to-go" order. The bartender said, sorry, you have to wait in line. There was at least ten people in front of me, and one cash register and one cashier. After 25 minutes of waiting in line, I paid for my food and left. When I got it the short drive home, the cod and tilapia were soggy and no longer crunchy. The oysters were too salty and also soggy. I paid $65.00 for food that was cold and soggy. Who knows how long it was sitting on the bar. The restaurant should have a better system for obtaining to-go orders. Thank you. read more

I had heard this place was good and tried it out yesterday. I was the only one in my group to order the pollock and ended up being sick all night, I'll spare you the details. No one else seemed to be sick like I was from it so it seemed to be from the pollock. I don't think I will be craving fish n chips for a good while. I have eaten at this one and the one on Colfax both are good and I am sure I will eat there again but not my top fish n chips in Denver. The batter just lacks a little flavor to me and I have gotten slightly undercooked Cod one time. That being said they are a good addition to Denver food scene and they do not just do fried fish they have oysters, squid, scallops and prawns and other motherland delights. The fried seafood is not as good as you will get in other parts of the country but it is nice to have a quick reasonable priced option for this type of food in Denver so Kudos for that!! Having spent plenty of time in the UK I can say their fish n chips is as close to authentic British fish n chips that I've had in the states, especially with the addition of mushy peas to their menu. If you like good fish, then save your money and skip this place. Portions are small for the price (more fries than fish) and the fried batter was so thick and greasy its disgusting. You would be better off going to Long John Silvers, about the same quality for half the price. read more

Ok - So here is the scoop. I have had the real deal in London. This place is close. The food is good, prices are right. Would i bring my kids - perhaps in the daytime. Is it clean? Yes. Is the service Good? Well, the girl that took my order was flurting with a guy and i was hungry. I was a bit short (my bad). Other than that, the food came fast. My favorite Fish and Chips anywhere and I am British. Spent a week in London last year and couldn't find one that was better. Wish it was closer to me and I would come here more often but it is worth the 30 mile drive. Because it is so good it is always crowded and there is a bit of a wait but it is worth it. Your order is made fresh as you wait unlike many places that put the fish under heat lamps. Be careful as it is super hot when they call your name. Wait a couple minutes before you take a bite. A bit expensive but I would recommend a full plate of cod with chips and curry sauce for two willing to share. Happy hour you can get cheap PBR but I prefer Guiness and they have other traditional beers. Even my wife who hates fish loves the cod here. I really like the menu design. You can be a lady or you can be a pig; half/full is 3/6 pieces of fish, or you can half fish/half fried shrimp or clams. Sides are ala carte, but very reasonably priced. I'm a fries and slaw kind of girl. Here's the 5 star holdback: the counter girl is unnecessarily loud, bordering on obnoxious. no booths, just benches- thanks for the thigh chafe. fish is sometimes too greasy (not drained in the basket for a few seconds just dumped straight onto my fries). paper cup slaw- can't stir S&P without making a mess, skimpy cup size tartar (they will give you more at no charge, just give me enough the first time), iced tea is over brewed/too strong. I don't mean to be harsh here, I do like what they do. It's just that fish and chips is very caloric and this place is pricey (about $30 for 2 people) so the expectation is that it knock my socks off. I know that may be unreasonable, but hey- I'm here to tell it how I see it. Most of these kinks are easily fixable, cost nothing and improve the overall dining experience. read more

Because I've never been to England I can't say whether GB is as good as it gets, but damn are their fish and chips good. I had a cod "full meal," which in my opinion is a meal for two: six good-sized fish pieces and a healthy (okay, generous) pile of chips. The batter was perfect, not greasy, not burnt, not stale. Chips warm and just crispy enough. And all this for about fifteen bucks. If only they had an on-site cardiologist, I could eat there every night! read more

Best fish and chips in Denver! Not GB's biggest, or newest location (and they're all good with the same food btw), but the Broadway location has the hole-in-the wall authentic feel that makes it so much fun. The fish is always fresh, the batter flakey and delicious, and the food hot as it is served straight from the fryer to your table- made fresh to order, never pre-made. The cash register girls aren't always the most cheerful (3 1/2 stars- they're never rude, just not consistently Denver first class), but the food is ALWAYS the best. Only thing that could possibly make this fish any better would be to wrap it in a real British newspaper and serve it in England. They even have meat pies! Go try it! Oh yes! Really great! Proper proportion of batter to fish --fish in every bite & nice & crispy. Frys are good too, chunky & crispy. I haven't had anything off of their menu aside from the cod with chips. I absolutely love it. Fish quality, 5 stars. Super crispy tasty breading. Great fish to breading ratio. I can't get enough. Chips are just ok. The only reason I don't give the review 5 stars is because I feel like for what it is, it is pretty overpriced. At around $50 for a family of 3 to eat a cheap fish (seriously- cod is cheap) and some potatoes, I would expect to enjoy some dining perks instead of an in and out place where you order at a counter and then go get your own drinks and food when it's ready. I would probably eat there more often if their prices weren't so high. And this is me just being picky, I hate the tip jars. I have worked for tips my entire life, and I think tipping is important. But when I walk to a counter, give you my order, get my own drink, then go get my own food, I'm unsure what exactly I'm tipping for. So the tip jar at the register and then again at the kitchen window just bother me. The irritation is probably compounded by the already high prices. I do love the fish though.
