Stopped in for lunch and drinks. Sat at the bar with many regulars. Staff is friendly and familiar with many of the patrons that frequent this Mayfair neighborhood bistro. My friend and I split a couple of appetizers--the fried zucchini and the buffalo chicken tenders. We asked for the buffalo sauce on the side for dipping. The tenders had nice breading but were a bit dry on the inside. The fried zucchini was good. The beer batter was light and seasoned well. Drinks were reasonably priced. Business definitely picked up after 4:00pm, so get there early if you want to avoid crowds. read more

OMG.. what a little gem, who knew (okay, my friends knew). This little local establishment is in a tiny strip center off 9th and Jersey. The staff was so friendly and a huge shout out to Bailey our server (5 gold stars for her). We meet for a quick bit on Wednesday night also in time for Happy Hour. Wednesday is al Prime Rib special night. 2 set of friend share a large portion with mashed taters and green beans. I was at a Baja bistro and thought it best to try a Mexican item. I am a sucker for anything smothered. So I ordered the burrito with rice and beans queso cheddar cheese, and carne asada. A huge flour tortilla filled with meat, Sautee onions, peppers, mushrooms and spinach topped with shredded lettuce, dice tomato & sour cream and of course SMOTHERED in house made green chili. OMG delish. Oh, and it come with a side of chips... yeah, you read that right a side of potato chips. Our server let us upgrade to French fries in a large basket with (as my grandson says) dip (yep ketchup). In the neighborhood, or even close... Thinking things were taking a bit longer than usual, but it took a bit to get my drink and food after ordering. I suddenly had a work meeting so needed to finish and head out. I saw this place a few months ago going to a Yelp Elite Event. They are on the south end of a small strip mall in the Montclair neighborhood. They have a small bar which almost every seat was occupied on Friday at 3pm. 1 large room and a smaller one. A large shaded patio facing west. Very large menu with appetizers, soups & salads, burgers & sammies, tacos, entrees and daily specials. A table menu sign had drinks and desserts. No QR codes. The various flat-screen t.v's were showing sports, CNN and TNT movies without captions or sound. I started with freshly brewed iced tea. Nice and strong. In fact, I had 3 glasses with lunch. I chose the Don Fuego cheeseburger with pepperjack cheese, roasted poblanos, red bell pepper, sliced jalapeños, sliced onions with a chipotle aioli & Tabasco sauce. I got the beer battered Onion Rings as my side. I used the sauce to dip the onion rings into since the burger toppings already gave alot of heat. I was served by Autumn P. She was quick & pleasant. There was a sign on the check-in podium that they prefer cash over cards, but Autumn said it was not an issue. So Bertha's is basically a local diner with a wide selection. If you want a reliable burger with homemade fries or some Mexican food, these are good choices here. This isn't bargain priced dining but most definitely fairly priced. Keep your expectations in check otherwise. This is homemade food. It is obvious that the food is homemade as items like fried zucchini come out in all different shapes and sizes and fried at too high of a temperature. It is kind of endearing if you look past the greasiness. The family members of the owner that work here are very nice and welcoming. It is obvious they have a lot of passion and care for their business. This will keep us coming back. These are great people to support in the community. read more

I couldn't decide between a sweet or savory option, so the fact that pancakes come as a side option (along with toast, potatoes, fruit, sausage or bacon) made the ordering process that much easier. Menu is broad--everything from tacos to pasta, so can't judge everything, but both the mahi tacos and veggie taco meals were really good. Normally fantastic service and food I go there like 3 or 4 days a week,usually eating dinner or getting dinner to go so I spend about 100 to 150 dollars a week there or 4 to 500 a month .recently I was there having drinks with a 20 dollar tab and asked for one hamburger bun to go cuz I had burger at home and wanted to cook that. The manager charged me 4 dollars for the bun. I gave it back and closed out my tab early I had planned on staying longer and ordering more drinks but was pissed at how I was treated by the manager. Bertha's has an old diner or catering club feel, filled with regular customers likely accumulated over the years. Their menu is comprehensive, filled with plenty of options for everyone. I started with fried pickles (can never resist) and got prime rib for my entrée. The pickles were good, though they were FRESH out of the fryer, which burned my mouth. Whatever sauce was an excellent addition. The prime rib was cooked PERFECTLY, and both mashed potatoes and grilled veggies were terrific sides. Our lunch bunch has been on hiatus for a few months. We resumed today with lunch at Bertha's. It is not a place that any of us pass along our driving routes. It is located at the northeast corner of 9th Avenue and Jersey Street. There is a strip of various places in what is otherwise, a residential neighborhood. After careful scrutiny of the menu, two of us decided it was a good day to try the fish and chips. After some disappointing offerings of the same in other places, I was hesitant. Upon questioning, our server promised they were delicious. She was absolutely correct. The batter/coating on the fish was thin and light. No grease was noted. The chips were unpeeled real potatoes fried to slightly crispy, but still soft inside. The coleslaw was good, but nothing different. The other two diners had the Berth's Fiesta Salad. Besides the usual assortment of greens, there were black beans and roasted corn added. The freshly grilled dry rubbed chicken breast was perfectly cooked and juicy. The deep fried jalapeños were a delightful bonus to the other flavors. Ranch dressing was a tasty topper to it all. The menu was quite varied. There were several Mexican dishes, and a daily special. Today's was prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans. Check the menu for the other days' selections. All in all, I see us returning here to sample more delicious selections. read more

I'm super torn on this review. When I travel, I only eat at local places to support the places that make a city so great, so after above average Yelp and Google reviews, my group thought to give this place a try. But do you ever eat at a place and just go home unsatisfied? That was Bertha's tonight, unfortunately. Our service was fantastic, the place looked nice, and the drinks were great. We ordered fried zucchini/pickles to start. Really good, maybe that's what they are best at? But man, the "Mexican Weekend Menu" was a real buzzkill. I've got Mexican family and traveled to Mexico and all around Texas, and this is a shame to say it, but it wasn't even close to good. A taco truck could and often does 100x better. We tried both the Tacos Dorados and the Pezole. Not good would be an understatement. No flavor, just bad. It felt like there was no seasoning, no spices, nothing. I didn't even finish half the pezole, and if it wasn't for the late night hunger, the taquitos and "broth" deserved the same treatment. It 100% could be that these reviews are off of their normal menu and drinks, and I would completely understand. I paid the bill and didn't fuss because our server didn't deserve it (she was incredible and was tipped accordingly) and I didn't want to perpetuate the "rude tourist" vibe, but my $40+ was wasted tonight on the Mexican menu, and I feel like a warning to others is warranted. Or maybe I should've known better than ordering Mexican food in Colorado... but either way, a really rough experience. read more

Supporting local restaurants is something I have always liked doing. Moreso in the challenging times of COVID-19 restaurants need business for takeout. Berthas is delicious first and foremost. I love their Big Surf sandwich, which is a grilled chicken breast (very big no skimping here) topped with swiss cheese, pineapple, teriyaki, mayo, lettuce and tomato. It is messy and so addicting. You get a side with it. I typically choose the french fries or onion rings. Their french fries are beyond. Salty, crispy and always a good portion even as a side. The wings are smoked. I prefer them with the sauce on the side (Buffalo, BBQ or spicy BBQ). Stopped for lunch with MDW, on a recommendation from my buddy, Denver J, we had the option of indoor and outdoor dining, we chose the later and hooked the last table closest to the end of the buildng (only one table on that side (smile). We started off with chips and guacamole, house made, not to spicy just how my lovely wife likes it. She ordered the special sandwich of the day, a French dip ( made with the prime rib from Tuesday special) with a side of green beans, which she throughly enjoyed. I ordered the adult grilled cheese made with toasted cranberry walnut bread, smoked gouda, and fontina cheese, sliced pear, date jam, and caramelized onion, my side was beer battered onion rings (which were very good). My only complaint above the sandwich was that I would have preferred it hotter and the cheese melted a little more and the onions being cooked more throughly. Another thing on the sides listed on the bottom of the page you take for granted that one comes with the order and can be selected without another charge tacked on but when your server says "it's $2.00 more for the mac and cheese side", it is a little off putting, hint, (put the added price next to it so there is no surprise... This is such a fun little neighborhood spot in Mayfair. The menu is really random, the decor is old school but the food is delicious, reasonably priced and the service is wonderful. We came here for brunch - $15 bottomless mimosas! Our waitress made sure to keep filling our glasses. Plus so many mix and match options for food. The menu is awesome. It's also fairly quiet so it's nice to eat and relax without the large crowds that you get at more popular places. Highly recommend! read more

I know that fish tacos aren't known for traveling well, however Bertha's lunch delivery yesterday came out pretty good! They were still warm and not soggy at all -- which is saying quite a bit, because there's lots of good toppings on those tacos. Also, you gotta get the queso. It reheats pretty well for a "round two" later on. I also like the chips at Bertha's. Nice and crispy. Not bland. Just enough salt. One evening after picking up my son before his departure...we stopped here and decided to give it a try! We were properly greeted, seated and the service was very attentive and non-stop. I ordered an appetizer, fried pickles, and they were some of the best I have ever had, certainly the best I've had since moving to Colorado. Next came the burger...I ordered the Don Feugo with a side of onion rings. It was cooked to my request, medium rare, was hot and the buns were properly toasted. I'm surprised I hadn't reviewed Bertha's yet! They're a good neighbor with great food, and last night they went above and beyond. We've been there several times in person for burgers, salads, and Mexican food. I love the fish tacos and love the smoked wings. My family likes the burgers and the Reuben. Great onion rings too and a friendly, family-owned vibe. Last night we ordered takeout online. They had it ready fast, and my husband ran it to grab it while I waited in the car. But at home, we realized they'd given us someone else's meal. While Gregory's meal looked good, I had my heart set on wings! I called Bertha's and explained. The guy who answered was so nice and apologized immediately. He said he would remake our (recited whole order) immediately so we could pick it up in 10 minutes. Nice, huh? But wait -- then he said "Hang on, you know what, I'll bring it to you." What seemed like moments later, our dinner was at the door, and he has us keep Gregory's meal too (nice gesture and of course good safety move). I was shocked by the great service. Last time I didn't get something I ordered (looking at you, Denver Biscuit Company), the restaurant basically told me the DoorDasher should've checked and hung up on me. What Bertha's didn't know last night was that it was my birthday, and I'd already tried to go to a brewery (no seating) and went to another to buy from the food truck ... which drove away as we parked at 6:30 pm.
