I was desperate for a trim & color, they were able to get me in on very short notice on a MONDAY, no less! I love people that love to work and this business was busy when most salons are closed on Mondays. The staff was so polite, kind and helpful. The salon ambiance was calming, fun and relaxing! They are definitely good at what they do and love what they do. Christina was fantastic, definitely knew what I wanted, was reading my mind and totally Intune to my needs. Yelp Review - 1 Star I rarely, if ever, leave negative reviews, but my experience here was so disappointing that I feel obligated to share it. I arrived on time for a scheduled appointment for highlights and a haircut. After my hair was washed, I met briefly with the owner. She spent most of the consultation speaking to a junior stylist and asked me very few questions. I clearly explained that I wanted highlights that would hide my gray hair and a flattering cut (I gave specifics about the cut). During that consultation, a woman walked in and announced that she did not have an appointment but wanted to see if she could be accommodated. To my surprise, the owner decided to take the walk-in client first, leaving me sitting in the chair waiting for approximately 45 minutes while she highlighted the other woman's hair. When she finally returned to me, the consultation remained minimal and rushed. Throughout the appointment she continually moved between multiple clients, rarely focusing on any one person for long. The entire visit lasted 4 1/2 hours despite the fact that I have very short hair. Unfortunately, the results were the worst haircut and color I have ever received. Rather than blending my gray hair, the highlights emphasized it and left my hair looking noticeably grayer. The haircut itself was uneven and impossible to style. The result was so poor that I eventually returned to my longtime hairdresser in Pasadena, more than seven hours away, to have it corrected. He was genuinely shocked by the quality of the cut and tried his best to repair it. What surprised me most is that this salon has so many positive reviews. My experience was the exact opposite. The salon appears to be a victim of its own popularity, too many clients being scheduled at once, insufficient attention to individual customers, not respecting people's time, and not enough time spent listening to what clients actually want. Being kept waiting while a walk-in client was served first, combined with the poor communication, lack of attention, and disappointing results, made this one of the worst salon experiences I have ever had. I do want to add that the other staff were friendly - it was the only good thing about the visit. Oh - and they offered wine. I would rather a good cut and highlights than wine, any day. The first time I visited this salon was a few years ago and I immediately felt like I got someone who was going to listen to my needs. You get high quality care for a very reasonable price. Christina and her team are incredible artists and will take their time to make sure you understand the whole process of hair color. I have had blonde hair that looks like it's natural, I've had extensions put in, and the y even matched the color to my clip on extensions. I've been going to this salon and having Christina do my hair for years now, after trying several other Tucson salons and not having much success. (Apparently, not all salons in Tucson will do blonde pixiecuts.) Anyways, I love the vibe at GB salon. It's very open and welcoming. They are straight shooters and honest. Whenever you walk in the door, someone will acknowledge you immediately and say hello. The communication is top- notch. I love when V & Ethyn are there. They give excellent service and are also very considerate of the little details that most people would overlook. I would highly recommend them for your next hair cut and color. I've been to salons before, and one here in tucson royally messed up my hair, turned my very long, healthy blonde hair into an orange mess, and was falling out. After two years of me going down the rabbit hole trying to fix it, I ended up doing more damage, so I finally decided to give a salon another try . Christina Shaffer, owner of Gurlbang Salon, is hands down the best color artist & hair stylist I've ever been to. My hair looks the best it's looked in my entire life. I get compliments galore! I'm a natural brunette, with stubborn greys. I have a lot of blonde highlights, done in Christina's signature balayage "halo" effect. It's simply gorgeous. When I contacted Christina after seeing her work on Instagram, I explained that I can't process under heat, because it ruins my hair. No problem! Christina lets me process naturally, no heat, so I can be blonde without damage. It does take quite awhile, but God bless her, she's willing to let me sit there while she's working on other clients. The results are just incredible. Christina's haircuts are perfection. Honestly, I can't get over how amazing my hair looks! Christina's assistant, Alexis, is wonderful, too. Alexis applies the toner and base color to my roots after the highlights are finished processing & does my style out with gorgeous big waves. Christina introduced me to ReDavid products from Canada. ReDavid blows the doors off Olaplex & everything else. My hair has been completely transformed. Highly recommend the Orchid Oil treatment mask, shampoo & conditioner. Christina and Taylor are AMAZING! They've completely fixed my hair. My former stylist had not been highlighting the back of my hair since I moved out here in 2013! My hair is naturally black and I want really ashy blonde highlights and Christina is able to do this easily. She uses such care on my hair that it is probably the healthiest it has ever been right now, and it's blonde. I had never heard of Olaplex prior to her and Taylor using it on my hair. I have hardly any breakage now and my hair feels thicker and healthier. They can also do some of the most beautiful and vivid colors on hair as well. Both of these women are extremely talented! Christina has been cutting my hair for years and does a fabulous job. I always leave with a good cut and good style to my hair. I also tend to be happy with my haircuts for a long time. I used to get my hair cut at other salons and would be happy for a couple of weeks, but then wouldn't like my hair for the next six weeks until I got it cut again. When Christina cuts my hair, I'm always happy with it in-between cuts. I would highly recommend this salon! read more
