We received a vast range of estimates. While Alberto was not the lowest, he seemed both fairly priced and knowledgeable. We got a bit overwhelmed by all that we were planning and backed off of our project for a bit. Then it took us a while to find slabs that we liked for our new counters. Once we did, we were ready to move forward. It had been 5 months. When we circled back around, we called Alberto, as we had previously decided that he would be the contractor that we would hire. He didn't seem to mind our delay, although his estimate did increase some. To be fair, this is 2023 and inflation has been terrible. We hired Alberto and his team (Alba Construction) to drop a pony wall, square off an arch, redo that drywall and paint in that area, paint 2 large 2 story interior walls, demo our kitchen counters, demo 4 bathroom vanity counters, demo the kitchen backsplash (in preparation for new counters and new backsplash), cap a pot light and drywall over, install 2 new drop lights over the kitchen counter, and install a pot filler line. He had 5-8 different guys that he lined up for different days and they each had different specialties. They showed up when he said they would and they did their jobs cleanly and efficiently. His pricing was fair compared to other estimates I received, and he was accommodating when we requested adjustments after installation due to clearance concerns around the water heater. The quality of the work was appropriate for the type of project. This is a utility closet rather than a visible living space, so I wasn't looking for high-end finish carpentry. The shelving is sturdy and functional, which was the primary goal. There were a few minor points worth noting. The shelves themselves were built from plywood while the framing was pine. This wasn't a major issue, but the exposed plywood edges remain somewhat rough despite being sanded. Additionally, when modifications were needed after installation, the shelf was cut in place with a jigsaw rather than being removed and recut, which left a less polished finish but it is not visible. Regarding pricing, the original quote included a first-time customer discount and staining. After deciding not to stain the shelves, the price remained unchanged. However, given that his overall quote was still significantly lower than many others I received, I felt the pricing remained fair and reasonable. Overall, I definately would hire again for practical, functional projects where value, responsiveness, and getting the job done are more important than fine-finish craftsmanship.

Here are the projects that we have used him for: 1. Installation of a Gladiator Garage storage shelf space - he placed it perfectly in the area that we wanted. It was well secured and has provided an extra storage space in our small garage. He checked in with us each step of the installation to make sure that we were satisfied with all aspects of the job. 2. Leak repair with mold remediation, insulation and drywall/baseboard repair in our dining room - he located the leak, cleaned out the area between the studs (including sealing an opening to the outside wall, which we didn't know about), treated for some mold that was present and then reinstalled the insulation, finished the drywall and painted the area. This included removing the baseboards and reinstalling/matching them, re-applied the orange peel texture and then painting to a perfect finish. You would never have known there was a leak there. He even replaced the outdoor spigot that was on the other side of the leaking pipe! 3. Roof truss repair in the garage - Jaime noticed when he was installing the garage storage shelf that the joints of a few of the roof trusses had separated when he was surveying the beams in the attic space. He showed us the issue and we asked him if that was something he could repair as well...he said absolutely. After getting the truss connector parts, he went up....pulled the joints together and repaired them....this is one of those hidden issues that can be catastrophic if left unresolved. Jaime will always be our "go to" repair professional. He has broad knowledge of residential buildings and is professional, pleasant and reasonable.....He is a 5-star resource.
