Hiring contractors is scary. It's right up there with hiring a mechanic. I consulted Yelp and read through dozens of reviews for different contractors. We called 5 of them for estimates. We received a vast range of estimates. While Alberto was not the lowest, he seemed both fairly priced and knowledgeable. We got a bit overwhelmed by all that we were planning and backed off of our project for a bit. Then it took us a while to find slabs that we liked for our new counters. Once we did, we were ready to move forward. It had been 5 months. When we circled back around, we called Alberto, as we had previously decided that he would be the contractor that we would hire. He didn't seem to mind our delay, although his estimate did increase some. To be fair, this is 2023 and inflation has been terrible. We hired Alberto and his team (Alba Construction) to drop a pony wall, square off an arch, redo that drywall and paint in that area, paint 2 large 2 story interior walls, demo our kitchen counters, demo 4 bathroom vanity counters, demo the kitchen backsplash (in preparation for new counters and new backsplash), cap a pot light and drywall over, install 2 new drop lights over the kitchen counter, and install a pot filler line. He had 5-8 different guys that he lined up for different days and they each had different specialties. They showed up when he said they would and they did their jobs cleanly and efficiently. Alberto was also here working and supervising a good amount of the time. They cleaned up after themselves and finished on time. I've heard a lot of nightmare stories about general contractors being hard to get a hold of, being late, charging a lot of money/milking hours, or being unreliable in general. I had the opposite experience with Alberto. He really cares about helping people get the job done at very reasonable price. He was very communicative, punctual, patient, and even early. He helped me install a door in a very crooked doorframe. It would've driven us nuts trying to install it ourselves. He did a great job, considering the circumstances. I never leave reviews online, but Alberto Garcia was so stellar that I have to make an exception. Alberto showed up within the timeframe he said he would for both the bid and the job (adding flooring in our attic), was easy to text with throughout the process, came to the table with a competitive bid, and did great work. But what I appreciated most of all was his honesty and commitment to his prices. The day of the job happened to coincide with an absurdly busy work day for me - so much so that I only had time to let Alberto into the house and then had to run back into meetings. Later, Alberto finished the job and informed me that he ended up doing more work than what was initially bid because it was the best solution. At the time I couldn't even check his work, so I thanked him for finishing it, and went about my crazy day. It wasn't until later that evening I was able to even go and inspect the work he did, and I was very impressed! He ended up needing to add additional height to the floors to avoid the electrical, which I know added considerable more work to what his initial plan was. The fact that he both cared so deeply about doing a good job and also took great lengths to respect my busy schedule and simply absorb the cost of doing the better thing was something I've never seen from a contractor before. He is very honest, hard working, and does excellent work. We needed the backdoor changed, a damaged window repaired, recessed lights put in, appliances installed, a plumbing issue that needed repair, fence repair, and tile grouting. Alberto completed a makeover of our back patio area. Repaired, re-roofed and extended the patio roof, refinished the concrete slab (which had cosmetic damage from an earlier plumbing repair), completely enclosed the patio with custom built fiberglass screen panels, and built a railed 8 x 20 deck on the exterior. We were able to accomplish the full scope we were hoping for within our budget. He has experienced mill carpenters on hand and subbed the roofing and concrete masonry. Alberto visited several times while developing his bid, was present at the job site each day, and reviewed the work with me at the end of each day. The work was done continuously and completed in a little more than a week. The carpentry is professional and labor rates are very reasonable. They came out for an estimate and told us they were booked about 4 weeks out (fine. Not an emergency) and then never contacted us again. I followed up with three messages on Yelp. I received no response to the first 2 even though they were labeled as read. Finally on the third I asked why they weren't responding and to please simply tell us if they were too busy to take the job. They finally responded with a yes, they were too busy, which is fine. I just wish they hadn't wasted our time with a pointless consultation for which I rearranged plans, and then ignored us. read more

Alberto helped me get a condo back in shape. He's got the painters, plumbers, tiling guys all ready to go. They painted, fixed a door, tiled a floor, fixed a minor plumbing issue (and several other things). Alberto was always responsive and showed up to make things right. All in all I had a great experience. The only minor nit would be the tiling wasn't perfect in a corner (but I'm also very detail oriented). The job had to be done in a tight timeframe and Alberto was extremely reliable. He started a day sooner than he said he would. And it all got done on time.
