They put my car on the truck then took it off after I told them I wanted to speak with a supervisor to verify that they had the correct address for the shop my car was going to. I just had a great experience with Carlos at GD Towing. My tire exploded after (apparently) running over a pothole, and my insurance -- USAA -- connected me with GD Towing. About 10 minutes after I got the confirmation, Carlos called to let me know he was about 20 minutes away, and then helped me brainstorm solutions since all of the tire places in the area were already closed. When we got to my tire shop, he found a spot to park the car and suggested leaving a note on my dash that I'd be back in the morning; I even accidentally broke his pen trying to write the note, and he was super gracious about it! AND he dropped me off to a friend's place afterwards. Carlos was super helpful and kind, even though I was a mess and he had to tow me in the middle of a storm. Awesome experience. read more

During the coronavirus pandemic my motorcycle, my only means of transport broke down. I work at a grocery store and this is how I survive right now. So I had to have it towed to a mechanic and I called GD towing . They quoted me $180, clarifying that the charge would be $130 for a car but was higher for my motorcycle and I agreed. Upon dropping my bike off at my mechanic I was informed I would be charged $300. I asked why and was told to call them in order to ask, by the driver. They told me that despite being told that the price was $180, I was being charged $300 because they brought special equipment. I asked what that equipment was and they answered that it was the straps used to tie my bike to the truck. Motorcycle straps can be bought for less than $40 a set. The straps used were ripped and ragged. I would have used my own if I knew I would be so up charged. I was unhappy to say the least and was told that normally a motorcycle may cost $600 to tow. This is a load of shit. I have had bikes towed for $70 by multiple different companies, and only called this one because of the time frame available for the tow. This company fucked me over during a pandemic when I was vulnerable and did it by lying to me. This company is dishonest and did this to someone literally trying to fix their transportation so they could go to their job at a grocery during this pandemic. They showed up and the price kept going up.. went from $200 - $300. Then when he had it up, said they need to use the dolly so it went to $400. I called the owner and he started cursing at me. Do NOT do business with them. I encourage all the other people this guy has done a bait and switch on pricing to log complaints to the BBB and put this guy out of business. I would give GD Towing a negative number if I could. I needed a battery brought to my garage and installed into my car. They came and the guy showed me a range that GD Towing could charge for this sevice, plus the cost of the battery. The battery was put in without trouble, and then I was asked for my debit card. The gentleman first talked with someone at the office in Spanish and then handed me the phone. It was requested of me to relay the information on the card, but half way through reading off the account number I was asked to give the phone back to the driver. Some more talk in Spanish and then the driver took my card from me and read off the information himself. The driver then gave me my card back and stated that my receipt would be reflected as a text momentarily. He drives off and a receipt for $380 appears as a text message! This is $85 higher than the cost of the battery plus the highest charge on their scale, for this particular service, that had been told to me on the phone when I requested the service, as well as the scale that the driver showed me on his cellphone. When I called GD Towing to tell them of their overcharge, the woman I spoke with was extremely rude and finally told me that the driver could charge at much as he wanted! Do yourself a favor and don't utilize the services of GD Towing. Instead, use someone reputable who won't perpetrate a scam that was carried out with the collaboration of at least three of it's employees. read more

Called Towing Leader and they sent GD Towing. This was not for a breakdown. I called ahead to make an appointment for a tow. The driver arrived 3 hours late and provided no explanation for why. Also, Towing Leader provided no explanation and had awful customer service. They kept putting me on extended hold when I tried to get the status and eta. I think both companies share the blame for this. The tow itself went ok, but the driver was very hard to communicate with, though we finally sorted things out. Fortunately, I looked up this company when the driver arrived and saw the comments about drivers claiming a higher price than quoted on the phone, so I checked with the driver before he towed the car to confirm the price. If there were rating of zero stars I would give it to them. I called a towing service (10-4 Tow of San Mateo). They outsourced my call to GD Towing. A GD Towing car showed up and lifted my car, drove it ~7 miles and when I asked how much it was the driver showed me a screen phone with 450 on it. I complained about abusive pricing. He said that was the price on the work order and there was nothing he could do. I refused to pay and he threatened to take my car with him. The driver's demeanor was very confrontational to the point that I had to call the police. I ended up paying $225 under duress to avoid further escalation. Then They tried to make me take my busted car to a place they were affiliated with. I told them I needed to have it towed to the shop my insurance company recommended. Find someone else! I had roadside assistance perform a flat tire change and the service was performed incompetently. The uninflated tire was put on and the service providers did not even realize it needed to be inflated. When I called to complain, the first person hung up on me, the second person told me an investigation would be done and I would receive a call (which I never did) and the manager asked me why I didn't change the tire myself (not an appropriate question) and then hung up on me! After my experience with Chuy and GD Towing, there's no way the bad reviews on here could be accurate. I googled tow services in San Francisco and I was definitely expecting to get beat over the head for my poor lil beamer that I had just bought and stalled on me. Not only were these guys super reasonable ESPECIALLY after AAA now has a $75 same day tow fee... Uhhhh yea! No. They also worked with me after hearing my situation got to me in a quickness before the city tried to cite/tow me and got ne hooked up took it immediately to a safe location to switch the car around on the truck to make sure not to destroy my transmission. I can't thank Chuy enough for not judging the way the car looked or how "comfortable" I looked in my sweats and slides (flip flops), and really treated my multi-colored old school BMW as of it was his own. Even gave me a ride to my end destination after we dropped the car off at the mechanics. I NEVER expected customer services like this or such a stress-free experience from a tow company, especially in SF. Thank you guys so much. I can't express what today meant to me. I went to help friends who were having their car towed by this company. The driver was very rude when the driver of the car asked how he got the car on the tow truck bed, by driving it, when it would not go forward at all before, hence the need to tow. It was a question. The driver got angry and dumped the car nack on the street. And this, after an hour wait (the wait is normal, the dumping of the car was not). It was really shocking. PLEASE, for your own safety, DO NOT use GD Towing!!! They are scammers are not there to help you. I am a young woman and I was with one of my friends when my car broke down. We called a towing service and we're told it would be $204 to get my car towed. I agreed, and two men were sent from GD Towing. When they arrived, they told us the price would be increased by $100 and the men wouldn't give us a straight answer as to why the price was being increased. It seemed as though we were being exploited and targeted as young women who do not know about cars. We told them we did not agree to the price increase. Without saying a word, they got in the tow truck and left us in an empty parking lot alone at night. We quickly realized that they were not coming back and found help with another LEGITIMATE service, however the two truck driver from GD towing repeatedly called my phone number throughout the night telling us to meet them at the "bank". It was a very frightening situation for both my friend and I and I would not wish that creepy feeling on anyone. Please, for your own safety, do not use GD Towing company. I called for a prearranged flat bed tow (this was not an emergency) from Horizon Towing in San Rafael to pick up a car in West Marin to SFO. Here's the headline a $450 agreed upon price with Horizon Towing turned into a $1300 tow and holding my car hostage for payment from GD Towing. While I initially thought I was dealing with Horizon Towing I fault GD Towing for not honoring a price quote. GD Towing seems to be an established and successful SFO based company..HOWEVER they are part of a scam network if they agree to work with fly by night brokers like Horizon Towing. BACKGROUND: Horizon Towing initially said it would be $350 tow from West Marin into SFO around 26th street. I thought was reasonable and agreed to This price. They then asked naturally for the make and model of the car which I gave them. Then they put me on hold and said they were mistaken and could only do this for $325 per hour with a 3 hour minimum!! They said it was because my car was an expensive car !!!!!! After saying absolutely no and ready to hang up ....they said wait wait...(I should have hung up then as the warning signs were there with the 'expensive' car bit) they said we could do this for $450 total cost, which I thought was high but not terribly unreasonable. Tow truck arrived and it is another company GD Towing not Horizon but the driver said they were from Horizon. We hooked up the car and I followed the tow truck into the city. We got to the destination and before unhooking the car the driver asked for my credit card so they could run it and he printed off an invoice for $1300! He said the same thing....this is an expensive car and you should pay this. !!!! So the same line I got the day before from Horizon (you have an expensive car and therefore our price will be higher..) is exactly the same thing the GD Towing driver told me ! Long story short...I have major complaint against GD Towing but I came to realize that this was not going to end with anything but me paying extortion money to get my car. So after some negotiation with GD Towing office I agreed to pay $1000. I have contacted San Rafael police regarding Horizon Towing and will file formal complaint against Mr Lee (probably fictional) owner of Horizon Towing. However GD Towing is painted with the same brush....they took complete advantage of a situation with a car held hostage and I did not have any option but to pay much more than agreed to get my car. Happen to us this week (4/16/2018) Tow Truck Driver name Barry call me and pretend to be the tow truck driver from our insurance he called me and tell me he is in the yard to pick up our after picking up our car and drop off to our property Barry was charging us $ 450.00 dollars he said if we do pay he will tow the car to SF at the same time someone is calling my cp saying that he is from GD Towing asking for a payment he is threatening me that if I do not pay his driver will tow the car to SF and we will pay another $250.00 plus towing. Do NOT let GD towing tow your car. My car was hit while parked and when I showed up at the scene, GD towing was already there preparing to tow my vehicle. They informed me that the police had called them to tow my vehicle. I was tempted to call AAA, but the guy from GD towing assured me that they work with AAA (they even had an AAA sticker on their vehicle), and that this tow would be free of charge to me and my insurance because the police had requested the tow. They told me they would take it to a body shop less than a mile away. The body shop, Eur-Asia Motors, which I later discovered is owned by the same person who owns GD towing, ended up holding my car hostage with over $4000 of fees after just two days in the shop including a $2095 tow fee (to tow a sedan less than a mile away). Many of these fees were fees that the California Bureau of Auto Repairs deems unreasonable, and I ended up needed to pay out-of-pocket expenses. I never signed-off on any of these fees prior to them charging them. Despite these guys seeming nice at first, they take advantage of people in desperate situations and are absolute crooks. read more

They arrived right after an accident. We did not need their help and they insisted. We were covered by our auto insurance and so we didn't have any out of pocket cost. The driver did a great job and was being really friendly and helpful and brought us home. However they suck at responding to phone calls.
