I purchased a new set of GE front loading washer and dryer units for my house. After install I had an issue with the dryer drum not spinning. I did the best I could with troubleshooting to no avail so I scheduled an appointment over the phone and was on the schedule six days later. I was given a window of a full day but that morning I used the automated text link "track your service technician" and the ticket indicated a 9:55am arrival. The tech arrived before the ETA. After a quick discussion he got to work tearing the unit down and was able to locate the problem quickly. The unit was repaired onsite and operational within 30 minutes. Very annoying: my dishwasher stopped draining. The plumber came and said I needed a new pump. So I booked online with GE Factory Service -- go straight to the source, I thought. I entered the model and serial numbers and said I needed a new pump. I had to wait two weeks for the tech to arrive, inconvenient but okay. He came just now and confirmed I need a new pump. BUT he doesn't have access to pumps: they have to be special ordered, and he doesn't keep them in stock or pre-order one, even when he KNOWS he will need one. So now I have to wait another ten days for the pump to be shipped and for him to come back and install it. VERY inefficient, very annoying. Condescending absolute WALNUT of a technician was supposed to come diagnose our (lemon of a) dishwasher today and replace parts so our dishwasher would, you know, WASH DISHES. Instead Tony came in, insulted us ("What did you do to it??" --NOTHING, other than wash two loads a day in a dishwasher, dummy!), replaced the dishwasher's pump mechanism, and then after turning the appliance on and off a few times left. GUESS WHO HAD TO WASH DISHES BY HAND TONIGHT AFTER A $300 NON-REPAIR BECAUSE TONY IS A MORON WHO CAN'T FIX A DISHWASHER? There was water in our drain pan and there were BARE WIRES in the water. We sure as hell didn't replace the pump ourselves--that was "Geniune GE repair service". I think if they don't resolve our issue promptly we shall be taking these jerks to court. We called GE Appliances Factory Service to repair the water/ice dispenser on our 8-year-old GE French Door refrigerator. We were able to get an appointment in 2 days, and the service technician (Steve) arrived within the scheduled time window. Steve diagnosed the problem quickly by connecting his computer to the refrigerator. He had the needed part on his truck, and he made the repair and had the dispenser operating within minutes. Steve was very knowledgeable and very enjoyable to deal with. Based on our experience, we would be very likely to call this company in the future. read more

You should know, around 2016-2017, GE Appliances Division was sold to Chinese Manufacturer Haier. The "GE Service" is no longer the same. We have a GE Monogram, Advantium Microwave Oven. The glass tray stopped spinning while cooking. Scheduled a service call, and the technician quickly realized that the small plastic part that sits in the bottom of the oven, that the glass tray sits on, was cracked and needed to be replaced. He simply lifted up the part. We were quoted a cost of well over $300 to purchase a new part and have it installed. Part cost was around $78, plus a second "service call" to drop the part into the bottom of the microwave oven. No tools needed, I mean, literally, drop the part into the little hole in the center of the oven. Absolutely outrageous! We decided not to anything and paid $114.00 for the service call. I found the "GE original part" online for $38.00. GE appliances is no longer the same company. Beware. GE has lost, yet another customer. read more

I called this company as I was advised to, by a very good repairman who knew his limitations and said he didn't want to go deeper into removing parts to access an area and risk breaking something. The person who came from "GE factory repair service" seemed to have never seen this standard GE refrigerator before, had to make phone calls to others , and was lost looking online at possible parts and costs. GE has almost ruined the holidays. After having a refrigerator w/ ice and water installed in a new build; I had to schedule service since the water dispenser never worked. I waited 2 weeks for my appointment to be canceled because I didn't answer the phone when the tech called. The rule for the tech to speak to the person with the phone number on file, or the appointment will be canceled, should be documented for all to see. When I called customer service, Vicki couldn't be any happier to tell me my next appointment will be on 1/7, and that no supervisor will give me a sooner appointment. I bought a new GE trash compactor for my house and had it installed in March 2019. In June the wheels that support the drawer started falling apart. Called for warranty service. They were out in a week, no problem. The problem is that the parts from GE are not to be shipped out until the end of Sept. which means that it won't be fix until mid to late Oct. The toll-free number for GE Service is 1-800-GE-CARES. This is an utter load of crap and let me tell you why. Last summer my GE dryer started squeaking; and when I write squeaking, I mean S-Q-U-E-A-K-I-N-G-! We could literally hear the machine from one floor to the next, from one end of the house to another. It sounded like an orchestra of beginning clarinet students trying to blow a note for the first time ever. I tried to ignore it--and my family's pleas to have it repaired. Eventually one of those--and I'm not telling you whether it was the family or the dryer--wore me down and I made a service appointment through the GE Appliance website. A few days later, the repairman arrived, on time and ready to tackle whatever the problem was. As it turns out, the problem was a top bearing which needed to be replaced. The repairman showed me exactly where the part had worn out and fortunately had one in his van. As you can see from the receipt (http://bit.ly/WHvXvx) the repair was not inexpensive. $86.20 for the parts $195.93 for labor (including a $79.95 initial charge) $26.80 in taxes. All in, it was a $308.93 repair. Ouch. Still, the dryer was six and a half years old. It's used constantly and sometimes things wear out. I get it. The cost of the repair is just part of the overall lifetime cost of the appliance and as long as the dryer remained functional well into the future, then I was fine with it. But of course, that's not what happened. Recently the dryer started squeaking again. The exact same clarinet orchestra squeak which frayed our last nerve last summer was back. Confident that GE would take good care of me and stand by their repair of only five months ago, I called the GE Factory Service number to schedule a warranty repair. I explained my problem to the woman who answered the phone. She responded with a curt reply that while the part has a five year warranty, there was only a 30 day labor warranty, so it would be another $79.95 initial charge and then whatever additional charges accumulated after that. I nearly lost my shit, but pursuant to my 2013 New Year's resolution to not lose my shit (see my Gene Juarez Academy review: http://bit.ly/WHuNAd), I stayed calm and merely mumbled something stupid about how disgusted I was. So here I am, with a seven year old dryer that I just dropped three bills on that's nearly unusable, at least while someone is actually home. As I see it, I have two choices, either replace the whole damn thing and spend whatever a replacement dryer costs or, shell out more money for another repair that GE won't warranty. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Back to that 1-800-GE-CARES phone number. It's a sad statement that the only thing GE really gives a damn about is making a buck off of your bad luck. What a perfect and shameful example of American exceptionalism going right down the toilet. Learnings If there's one thing I've learned from this experience (besides GE sucks) it's the value of calling around and asking about warranty coverage. Had I known that GE only offered a 30 day labor warranty, I may not have gone with them, instead finding someone who offers a more comprehensive labor warranty. I tried to contact the company by phone and online, and there is no way to get to a person to explain what I need. The voice system doesn't understand, "Install" or "Agent". First, they need to teach their techs how to leave a voice message. Not everyone has their phone with them 24/7 and if a random number calls, it is usually a robocall, scammer or spam call right now. Second, they need to tell people they MUST ANSWER or they'll automatically cancel the appointment. Who cancels like that? Pretty unprofessional to make an appointment that has been confirmed and then not show up. Third, they need to realize that many people have "silence unknown callers" turned on, so #1 is even more important since calls go right to voicemail. By the way I talked to the tech about 30 minutes after he called - and it turned out after they'd already canceled it - and he said that his first 6 appointments hadn't answered so they were all canceled. He also said that he thought it showed up as something like "GE Service" on caller ID. It didn't for us, it just showed a random, regular phone number. The worst customer service. First appointment was confirmed for repair of my dishwasher. After confirming, later on the day I called since it was getting late. Customer service told me that my appointment was actually not appearing on their side. Second appointment, they originally gave me an appointment window of 5:30-7:30pm. When I called to confirm they said this was an error since they don't schedule after 5pm. Then the dispatcher spoke with my husband to confirm the appointment later that day. Then went on to cancel the appointment after one missed call. Moral of the story---it is extremely hard to get the repair scheduled and done. They are disorganized and unreliable. read more

At about 3:30 my wife went inside and found they had sent a message telling us they were not coming since we were not home!! We later found you have to respond to a 'text message (?)' for them to come. Had they been smart enough (obviously they weren't) they would have sent this the evening before when we were inside and could respond. Since they cancelled the visit there is no record of the claim and we had to start over and got a service date a week later for a refrigerator that won't hold temperature. The first time we had to use the service, an older guy came and was complaining that it needs 2 people to pull the appliance out. He asked my husband to help out. He was so grumpy. He basically asked what the symptoms were and said, I can't repair that, you need a new one. We asked if he's not going to look at the appliance and he responded that if he does that, do we know anything about it to know otherwise. The technician did not show up for a dishwasher repair service that I scheduled nearly 3 weeks ago! I requested the time slot 1- 5 pm. Unfortunately, the repair was scheduled for the *2nd* time in 6 months for a dislodged Dishwasher Latch that renders the entire dishwasher inoperable if it does not remain seated properly. I would not recommend anyone to buy or take for free this model dishwasher (Mdl#GDT226SGL1BB) . The scheduling tracker website for the company is decent, because there is a text messaging option to see the technician's ETA up to a point and you may cancel or reschedule with a link. *CONSUMER TIP & FREE GAME* : I recommend the company install a confirmation reply option within the text message notification instead of relying on phone calls to customers after they have already scheduled for a service. The first time I used this service, there was a direct customer service phone number that I used to speak to a live person, because I did not get a phone call the night before the service as the website scheduler had mentioned. This time, there was no direct customer service number to speak to a live customer representative. The issue here is I received the text message notification that the technician was on his way and I waited, waited, and waited. Be mindful that the text notification gives you the option to cancel or reschedule the appointment. I did not cancel or reschedule. The technician did not show up. The tracker showed the technician was on the way, but the ETA no longer showed. My phone was near me the entire time. I called the automated number a few minutes later. There was no live person to speak to. Finally, after 1 hour had passed since the text message notification, I decided to Google for a customer service number for GE Factory Services near me. A live person answered and basically told me that a technician had called me, and I didn't answer the phone. The technician did not leave a voicemail or send a text to confirm that he was on the way! That is what VOICEMAIL is for!!! There could be any number of reasons why I couldn't get to my phone when the technician called. I don't know about everyone else, but my phone is silenced for some numbers that my Robokiller software may identity as SPAM. Telemarketers call my phone everyday, all day! This Company needs to do better! I am super annoyed because the trip fee is $114.95 and even though I didn't get charged for this fiasco, I did get charged for the first repair service, and you would not believe what happened!!! I provided my own repair part to replace the defunct latch, but the technician had the nerve to upsale a package of 3 refrigerator water filters that I later found out he charged me more than $150 for plus the trip fee! read more

The GE Factory Service team is top notch. I've had them out for a few different repairs both in warranty and out of warranty, and have always been pleased with their work. Joel is one of the leads who is outstanding and goes above and beyond for customer service. There are multiple contacts along the way, including day of, to let you know they're on schedule. The only item I wish were better was scheduling their services - perhaps a sign of high demand, or limited supply of techs. My experience has bee its usually about 3-10 days out to schedule, and also they don't have an emergency line for off-hours if you have an urgent issue. read more

My 48" built-in Monogram fridge kept staying in defrost mode. It took four tries and over $600 (GE says they are refunding me $150 for an evaporator fan motor they replaced that wasn't defective). The problem was a defrost timer. GE charges over $155 for this part which can be had from Amazon for $14. While the service men were nice, they seemed stymied by the problem. Stay away from GE Factory Service. After they replaced the evaporator fan motor they said all was okay. My wife and I lost about $250 in food we went out and bought. I did some reading online and suspected the defrost timer. One repairman said it couldn't be that, but when the second repairman removed it we could see the burn marks around one of the connections to the timer. Total labor and service call charges were in excess of $325. They were here four times about 30 minutes each time. All-in-all a very unfavorable experience read more

When we purchased our home 5-1/2 years ago the kitchen appliances were all GE Profile. After 3 years the microwave stopped working and was eventually replaced by GE because of a design failure. The new microwave, designed for families who can't cook, is functionally useless. Last year the ice-maker in our side-buy-side refrigerator went on the fritz and cannot be replaced without having a technician do it. Today, it started leaking water from inside the front of the freezer door from a source that cannot be readily determined. The gas range now appears to have recently started to leak gas from some internal area in the oven. Bottom line, what ever your thinking of doing, we strongly suggest that you do not consider buying any GE Profile appliance. Our experience has shown us that they are unreliable and have presented built in defects within 3 to 5 years. GE let me schedule service when they knew the problem was intermittent and therefore might not be solvable, but didn't tell me that. No refund on service call because "they were not witness to that conversation". No relief calling this company's consumer relations. It's a cultural problem with this company. They think they are so big and you are nothing, so they don't have to stand by their product, their service, or their manners. Don't buy a GE appliance, any type of appliance. I have a range, microwave, double oven, and refrigerator. Unfortunatey, I live in a new construction production housing where the builder chose GE! He evaluated the freezer and ordered a bunch of parts. The parts came in but repair was delayed for weeks due to technicians. They came out and said they they replaced the faulty part. I had the most horrible experience with GE repair. I purchased a GE top load washer from Lowe's in June 2016. It stopped working in October 2018. I was without a washing machine until today. I called for our first repair on 10/15 and they came on 10/17 for the repair. Good start right? Well the 1st tech didn't have the parts needed, so we had to wait over a week because the parts were on back order. The parts came 3 days later but they said the same tech had to install the parts so we still had to wait. Okay so the 2nd time the repair is done, and the machine breaks down the day after washing. Now we have to wait another 10 days for someone to come out. They send a different tech who orders parts that are again on back order and we have to wait another 10 days. The parts arrive and they are the same parts used in the 1st repair but that tech made the repair On Thanksgiving Day so now our repair is pushed back another 10 days!! They send yet another tech the first week of December who runs diagnostics and says it's a motor problem and doesn't know why the tech before him didn't catch it and re-ordered the same parts. Again, parts need to be ordered. To make an already very long and frustrating story shorter...the parts were on back order for February 2019 and GE didn't even let me know. I found out from Lowe's. Luckily I had purchased a Protection Plan from Lowe's. They gave me a $50 laundry reimbursement and finally gave me a buy out for the full amount of my purchase including tax. After 2 months of dealing with GE Factory's incompetence, I am so thankful that I bought the protection plan from Lowe's and NOT from GE appliance otherwise I would still be without a washing machine. Had a technician come out to fix my GE dishwasher. The technician was extremely rude, asking us "What did you do to it?" in a condescending manner. He eventually replaced the pump for almost $300. Later that evening, I go to actually use the dishwasher and it won't turn on. Looked under the dishwasher and some wires were hanging down into a puddle of water! The wires had not been correctly secured and now something was leaking as well. I tried to contact the main number, but of course, they aren't available after 7 pm on a Friday night. This dishwasher, a GDF620HMJ6ES, we've only had for two years and already we've had to replace the heating element because it leaked, the sprayer arm because it melted, and now we've replaced the pump and it still doesn't work. Looking online for parts through GE is a joke, none of the parts are available, instead there are newer versions but they are never in stock. The new versions are clearly meant to fix the exact issues I've been having, metal caps on the heating element where it was leaking, a metal cover over where the sprayer arm melted. Nothing about this was to my satisfaction. I'm going to contact GE to have them fix their technician's screw-up, but after that, I'm finished with this sub-par company. read more

It looks like I am the outlier with this company. The repair was just made today, and I could not be happier. I called for an appointment to repair my 9/10 year old 'Profile' refrigerator Sunday afternoon. The earliest appointment was for Tuesday, between 12 and 5. Luckily my refrigerator cycled back on before the food started to spoil but went down again a few hours before the repair was scheduled. Brian arrived at 12 and based on my description on the telephone, had diagnosed the problem. He had the repair part in hand. 20 minutes later he was done, and the refrigerator was humming again. Before he started, he did explain that labor was guaranteed for only 30 days, but the part had a 5 year warranty. Things could go south, but I was relieved with this fix, especially since it was 1/6th the cost of a new refrigerator--not counting the hassle of trying to save my food, shopping for a new unit, and waiting for it to be delivered. The technician was pleasant and knowledgeable. In general I have been very satisfied with my GE Profile appliance and repair experience. No one ever likes to pay for repairs, but it seemed reasonable to me. If I had to pay for labor again next year, it would still be worth it. read more
