A great little shop to buy used outdoor gear. Items vary from excellent used condition, gently used, to well-loved. Everything is well organized and the shop is easy to navigate. I was looking for a day pack or hydration pack to take on shorter hikes and found a exactly what I was looking for at a fantastic price. The item I purchased had likely only been used once or twice and at more than 50% less than buying it new, I felt like I made out like a bandit. This is SUCH a cool place. I can't believe I hadn't known it existed. I love that the webpage will highlight some of the cool items in the store. I went in recently to look at second hand REI tents. The staff offered to help me set them up to check that everything looked good because all sales are final. There are a lot of great options here at the store. Rude. Entitled. Just all around smart mouth and judgey. Idk how they make profit rude yo everyone. And I thought they were just having a bad day. Well come to find out when my group of friends and myself (7 of us total) all went to gear hut at one point or another. Mostly separated in groups of 2 but without the rest of the group knowing. But long story short. We all had the horrible honor of being treated like I was unworthy for hiking or anything outdoors. And not one of us bought something because we alllllll had the same experience. So save your money and go else where. They sell tents with holes and all other damaged goods but they will never give you a refund or store credit or anything is what I'm told. They mean all sales final every if didn't leave the store yet and you notice a hole in your tent or whatever you got. They will smile at you and say "ooooooooooooooo oh my gosh that's just bad luck " and laugh at you behind your back and honestly never met a group of people that I wish I never met in my life. Favorite place ever!! I've been coming to gearhut regularly for the past 3 years now and I'm going to be so sad when I move and don't have access to a place like this anymore. The owners and all the employees and great people and well informed about various gear in the shop. The gear is always rotating with people consigning daily and prices go down after items have sat in the shop for a while. Recent discovery thanks to another Yelp event. On Father's Day I did the Outdoor Explorers Evans Creek hike. We started at Gear Hut. What a great concept. They sell slightly used outdoor gear. Shelves and shelves of hiking and climbing shoes, racks of clothing, backpacks, skis and even large items like kayaks. Make sure you check out both rooms. So many great brands at a nice savings. I return recently to browse more through the store without the crowd from the event. I scored a perfect fitting pair of REI hiking shorts that I swear are brand new for $15. The restroom is the changing room, so you are able to try everything on before you purchase. Staff is helpful. The store is just the right size so I feel they know every item in there. They have their own parking area. That's a bonus in the Wells area. The front door is on the south end of the white building on the corner of Wells and Wonder. The Reno area has so much great outdoors to enjoy, get you gear here. read more

My husband and I love Gear Hut! They provide used outdoor gear at great prices and have such a wide variety of products to offer. They prove that getting into new outdoor activities does not have to be expensive! My husband taught two of our friends to ski and brought them here to get some used gear to start with. They each got skis, poles, boots, and a helmet for under $200 per person! My husband even got a high quality mountain bike here for such a good price. We have also brought some of our own used gear here and the process is seamless and well-organized. The items sold quickly and this definitely beats trying to sell things on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist; you just drop your gear off and they take care of the rest. Big fan of their green initiatives and commitment to sustainability. They also sponsored a park in Reno. What's not to like?! They are always sharing great things on their social media page about ways to get outside in Reno/Tahoe and about their current deals in the shop. The staff are friendly and down to earth. They are all super knowledgeable. They even pay their employees to get outside with their pay to play program! Gear Hut, I am definitely a fan. I love hiking, mountain biking, camping, hunting, fishing, surfing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and anything outdoorsy I have at least tried once, if I haven't I probably will. But these guys have used gear that I would actually use. I have purchased a few items here and there to help with my outdoor pursuits. Plus, I love saving money and these guys have named brands like Patagonia, The Northface, REI, Outdoor Research, and many more. They have plenty of used clothes, shoes, rock climbing gear, camping gear to choose from. Just a gear place to save a bit of money. I have definitely found a few gems here. So, they also will sell your used gear for you as well. With a seller's fee but at least you dont have to post it on craigslist and meet up with a random stranger. Worth the wait and sellers fee. I have a few items that I have used up in the store for sale here. It's a great process. I am definitely happy with it. Also, the staff here is super awesome. I have to say I was pretty in pressed with the level of customer service. The owner went out of his way to correspond with me through email and make sure they had exactly what we needed before making the long drive from out of state. They had a great selection of stuff, some things like boots they had a Ton of and other stuff like poles a limited selection of and I'm sure it changes often I believe everything was on consignment. We were able to get almost 2 full complete xc ski set ups for a fraction of the price of new. Prices varied from very affordable entry level to pricey high quality stuff.. This local mom-and-pop store has exciting changeover in their items from week to week and a staff of very knowledgeable outdoor enthusiasts. I ended up purchasing a Black Diamond helmet in excellent condition for $30 and a brand new Patagonia biking Fanny pack complete with a never used camel pack for $20. Let the buyer beware - there are no returns or exchanges and some of the gear sold is not in great shape. I learned my lesson when I purchased a Thermarest Nanoair pad and just found on my camping trip that it has a slow leak. Yup, after just about 2 hours I was flat on the ground. And the pad was not priced as though I was taking a gamble. Live and learn. read more
