Impressive clothing, book, and adult retail shop near the Tool Shed Bar. Gear has incredible staff, service, and stock. The layout of the store is clean and easy to navigate plus the gents that work here know it all and/or have great suggestions. The quality of products here puts other like stores to shame and their online store is just as incredible. I met so many great employees that I wish I wrote down all their names to give them high praise in such a short span of time shopping around and purchasing more than I planned on including some hunter/army green socks, hats, and other fun stuff. They do tend to carry more average and smaller body type sizes in store, however, offer more sizes for bigger-built guys like myself on their website. Much like the Tool Shed Bar parking, Gear is connected through the back parking lot for both and neighboring businesses. Hands down Palm Springs's best gear/fetish/pleasure-supplies store with a wide selection of well known male erotic wear designer brands (Mr. S Leather, Cellblock 13, NastyPig, square Peg and more). Vast lube selection, and more leather, neoprene and silicone you could think of to spice up your bedroom, and then some! They would easily get a five-star rating if their attitude, which seems to come from the top, was not so selective and condescending, as commented by others before and experienced first-hand over the years... Price points are sorta high, so no wonder many of their regular customers end up buying "essentials" online, instead. The pleasure retail category will always be in demand ("sex sells, always) - however, their prices will, in the long run, continue to alienate more customers and motivate them to buy stuff on the internet. Sadly that may create a predictable point where this industry will be disrupted and consolidated like in Europe, and only a few national brands will end up remaining, and standardizing even this retail segment. It depends on who is working the day you go into this store. Some employees go out of their way to help you while others are incredibly rude and dismissive. No one who is working in a gay fetish/ leather/ sex store should ever be rude to customers. There should be a sense of community not hostility. It's not cluttered (unlike a competitor's craptastic space on Arenas Road), has a pretty good selection of leather goods, some fun looking toys, and a great - but overpriced - selection of lube. Well I just had my first bad experience at Gear. Friday evening. I am a local, and u would think the staff would work extra hard because us locals help the stores and restaurants stay open in the off-season. I have always loved the store because the staff always seemed to be open and helpful to anybody who walked through the door. Tonight, however, I was completely ignored while the two staff members fawned over a customer who they must have found extremely attractive,, as I felt like a potted plant looking over items. I even specifically stated I had planned to make a purchase (I don't think I've ever spent less than $150 in there on a visit). I was never once asked if I needed help or was I looking for something in particular...the kinds of questions sales staff should ask. I barely got an "excuse me" as the sales person bumped into me as he went to grab another item for the customer changing in the dressing room who mattered. There was no one else in the place and after about 10 min I left. The more I think about how I was ignored the angrier I feel. I have spent a small fortune here in the past 3 years partly because the service was excellent. Unfortunately this was not the case tonight. I could even look past the ridiculously overpriced items because I liked the staff and the stuff seemed unique. Well, I can find similar items much cheaper online, plus I won't be ignored because I don't fit the mold of who the staff prefer to hit on...I mean wait on. Goodbye Gear. I have worked retail before and everyone who enters your business should be made to feel welcomed and special. I was made to feel the exact opposite. Congrats on being just another store where if you don't look a certain way, you mean less than zero. read more

So I'm a local I have been going to gear for many years and I love the fact that Mark is always friendly and welcoming. I just got off the phone with AMEX and they ARE crediting my account back. They totally agreed with me and are completely on my side. AMEX stated that all Gear did in the way of "providing evidence" was to submit a copy of their return policy. Gear failed to mention to AMEX that they had first agreed to take the item back and then changed their story when I arrived at the store. They refused to let me leave the item with them when I returned it a half-hour after purchasing it. There is absolutely no way I could have used the item because it takes several hours to charge. They had evidence of nothing. AMEX absolutely did not agree that the item had been used. This is a total fabrication designed to mislead. Of course Gear tried to take the review down. Nothing in it was misstated or exaggerated. As you can see from some of the other reviews, my experience is not unique. Gear misled me, they misled AMEX, and they are misleading you. I highly advise anyone to stay away from this store. They are not a reputable business. read more

I was told a CalKing play sheet was not available so I bought what they had. 20 minutes later I tried to return this expensive sheet because I found the same thing, in the size I wanted, right down the street. Not only was I lied to but they refused to accept the return just 20 minutes later. "Oh all sales are final." Bad manager. bad attitude and I will never shop there again.
