I had the best time at RetroRoom Lounge! I spent my birthday here and I wouldn't spent it anywhere else!

Fun karaoke bar! They have a one drink minimum per guest (not sure if it needs to be alcohol), probably to make sure people don't take too much advantage of the karaoke. I think you have to pay to sing, but there was no cover charge to walk in and sit. Nice to listen to everyone and it seemed like a supportive crowd. You're definitely encouraged to sing along to the choruses. All our cocktails were yummy and of course had fun names. One even came with a plastic light up ring! read more

Must stop on all Palm Springs trips for some dive bar karaoke. Have been here at least a dozen times, and love it every time. During the week, or early, may be mostly locals. Later and on the weekends, the place is packed with couples, friends, bachelorette parties. Tonight was no different. By 9 pm, it was packed with dozens of bachelorette party girls in denim and cowboy hats. So I sang a few country songs to stay on theme, and they loved them! Always a great time. Did not intend to come, but still felt compelled to step in and join - even if there was no place left to sit when we came at peak time. Was able to sit down as the night grew later. Normally a busy small space would have me walking away, but the energy said come in. I'm so glad we did. I had drinks and danced to those singing, and it was easy to make friends. The person with black glasses that told us her name was "Bitch" was extremely rude to us. It is a small space. A larger group got up and left. We sat down at those tables as we needed to rest. It was crowded. The person named "bitch" talked to us like we were not desirable...move. Was not nice at all as we agreeably left. We left on our own, btw. Not cool at all. read more

I can't wait to go back, hopefully when 20-something bachelorette season is over (forever)! The crowd was totally eclectic and several performers had some real talent. That's always refreshing with karaoke. I think I liked that there was no real stage (at least that night), because everybody got to choose their level of crowd engagement, although some could use some karaoke etiquette notes, We never got to do our song, we were full after dinner and waited as long as we could before we tapped out. But it was reasonable: Pride weekend, completely full house, and we got there after 9pm. So no hard feelings. I will be back for that fun energy next time I'm in town! read more

RetroRoom would get 0/5 if possible! One person in our group of four bought a drink and the bartender threatened to kick us all out if everybody else didn't buy a drink. So we ended up having to leave our friend alone in the bar to finish her drink from the outside of the bar. Maybe you guys should tell every customer upon entry that we MUST buy a drink in order to stay in the bar because that was bullshit. The bartender was a total asshole to us because we didn't know "the rules". He was trying to justify it with "I need to make a living". Weird! Bye! Thanks for that! read more

This wonderful joyous karaoke bar is the perfect little escape from reality. The mood is uplifting and everyone is there to have a great time celebrating music and the friendships. The DJ is excellent and has a nice voice. The drinks have solid pours, and on par price wise. read more

Bartender and vibes are great. Karaoke lady is incredibly rude. Been here for 2 1/2 hours and put my name down but never got called. I went up and asked and didn't see it then she found it and in front of me- moved my name down on the list. Came back up an 1 hour later and denied to take a tip from me when she took one from someone else after he paid to sing. He just walked in and sang and cut in front of everyone. I tried to do the same but was denied repeatedly. Never got to karaoke. Incredibly unfair and unjust. don't expect to be treated fairly here if the older black lady is the karaoke woman in charge. read more

Retro Room is one of my favorite bars in Palm Springs. Not only is the staff and owner incredible, the majority of the people who patronize this establishment are so fun. There is no other place I'd rather sing karaoke. I will always make Retro Room my must go to destination in Palm Springs. The bar tender Saturday night was so attentive and amazing. UPDATE Response to owners: I have to argue that- My husband was never told he needed one & we saw young group of bar patrons coming in, standing by us & we didn't see any wristbands on their wrists. Why was I targeted? What criteria did I meet being judged? I sat at the bar whole time, never walked through to use restroom & out? Anyhow I'm over it & thank you kindly for addressing this but I'll stick to where they treated me fair & respectfully - middle aged, minority & orientation (my family/bffs are LGBTQ+ whom I love for who they are) Hate having to post negative reviews but establishments need to do better & respect all people including aging. Review reflects night of 8/25/24. Tried posting to other popular search engine "G" reviews but apparently was removed-filtered out of the reviews. I'm old AF & yet got scolded by another old person -bartender to go get a wristband before I sat at the bar- they waited till my husband left me alone to use the restroom to inform me. We walked from the casino up the street & had a few drinks so I didn't think to show ID & didn't want to ruin his birthday arguing, so I told the bouncer what was said & he said "they told you that?" shaking head w/a wtf expression, looked like he didn't want to deal with it & humored both of us putting wristband on. Honestly that's the only reason I rated this bar so low. And why I felt insulted & puzzled why they told me that & just didn't ask for my ID? And yes, why didn't I just show it to them!? My husband said they were rude & my take is that they were probably having a bad night & just end it here. What was once a fun bar to go to for karaoke has now turned sour. Asking $20 dollars a person to sing (plus a drink minimum) is truly saddening to a once welcoming place. Good luck singing more than two songs (if you are lucky) on a busy night. Maybe it's to denture, and it definitely did the job. Food is not on the menu. Since I have not been back since their karaoke rule, I do not know if they allow outside food. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I can't believe how disappointing our experience was. My friends and I waited for a 20 minutes only to be subjected to the embarrassment of being ID'd not once, but twice after we finally got in. It felt incredibly unwelcoming, and honestly, if you're not one of the first in line, you might as well go somewhere else to have fun. Sadly, the place is kind of cool except they have some bizarre things like for example, they don't have restrooms in the bar. You have to leave the bar to go to a restroom in the restrooms are gross. I would not recommend that any women especially come here you will be grossed out you cannot believe at the restroom right now. The other thing is they charge you $20 to see which I've never heard of in my life. It's outrageous. Came here for a girls weekend and we had so much fun!! Spent about an hour and a half here and we sang a total of 4 songs! We enjoyed the company of everyone else there and had fun conversing with the DJ. My girlfriends and I came prepared to have fun so we made signs that said '10' and raised them up for everyone after they sang. This place was a kick. We were barhopping from place to place in Palm Springs, with a quick trip to the retro bar. Great location easy to walk to from Barry's locations. That evening, there was a bachelorette party, with karaoke being involved. Not your best karaoke, singers, but definitely fun and there was definitely a good vibe in this bar. Super enjoyable. Beers were good cold. Service was good quick surprisingly, because of how busy they were. Not a huge establishment, but overall pleasant. To cap off our final night in Palms Springs, we had to get some karaoke in so we decided to check out this recommended spot. As soon as you walk into the place I felt like I was teleported back to a time where everyone thoroughly had a great time without a car in the world. My wife and I sat back and enjoyed the variety of songs being sung trying to decide if we would join in. The singing bug finally bit us and we both went up to rock the house. We started out with B-52's Love shack before I did a solo performance of Rapper's Delight. I loved how I bonded with the owner over the Sugar Hill gang and the very album this classic jam was featured on. Everyone is friendly; lots of great local talent hits up this pot and the drinks are priced just right. We definitely have our go to spot next time we are in Palms Springs. read more

My girls and I got away for the weekend and landed in this little gem of a karaoke place. There's a big mix of people in there (straight and gay), and the vibe is very easy. Palm Springs is a fun little city. And the RetroRoom is, too. Myself, I think I had a little too much fun, and I left behind something that is very special to me. Hoping to get it back, I reached out to them the next day and the manager was so very kind and helpful (regardless of my bad timing when I called during their busy time). And it took a little detective work for them to find it, so I am grateful for the extra effort. Service doesn't always look like this, you know. I would go back again and again just because of this. Bought a table for a birthday, had a great time. VIP status gets you priority in karaoke singing lineup which was clutch. Fun local crowd to get into the groove with. But don't go for the drinks. Very standard dive-bar lineup. Nothing wrong with it just not their calling card. read more

Like others who have posted recently, I've been frequenting the RetroRoom for years and sadly can no longer support this business. The $20 "participation fee" is ridiculous. I've gone to hundreds of karaoke bars around the country and abroad, and i've never encountered such an insane cost. Even in the most crowded karaoke bars in NYC, you generally just have at most a $2-3 cost per song (not something that ends up being $20 or $10 per song since you're still likely to only be able to sing once or twice... or really $30 per song if you only get one song because there's a drink minimum as well). There are better ways to reduce overcrowding and shorten the rotation than this system (e.g., have a one song per table/group rule for songs, having a cost per song charge, etc.). The repeated excuse to everyone who has been calling out this price gouging is just that--an excuse, and not even a compelling one. If you're looking for karaoke, please support other venues. V Wine Lounge. The Village, Quadz, and Streetbar are all good alternatives. I've heard that streetbar might start hosting Saturday karaoke more regularly instead of the random Saturday nights they have. read more

Overall a good place for karaoke. What's great is that they have self-directed karaoke before the DJ gets there. You can sign up for songs on your phone. The atmosphere was great. The only food they have is chips though. Everything is cute, would come back again. read more
