Did not intend to come, but still felt compelled to step in and join - even if there was no place left to sit when we came at peak time. Was able to sit down as the night grew later. Normally a busy small space would have me walking away, but the energy said come in. I'm so glad we did. I had drinks and danced to those singing, and it was easy to make friends. This place vibrates with good vibes and comradery.

A friend asked me to join him at Retro for karaoke. Sure - why not?! My 1st time here so no expectations. Small place with plenty of tables. All customers were having a fun time and cheering each other own - fun vibe. Mark served up some great cocktails and awesome customer service. You have to go to hear Monica sing. I'll be back!

This wonderful joyous karaoke bar is the perfect little escape from reality. The mood is uplifting and everyone is there to have a great time celebrating music and the friendships. The DJ is excellent and has a nice voice. The drinks have solid pours, and on par price wise.

UPDATE Response to owners: I have to argue that- My husband was never told he needed one & we saw young group of bar patrons coming in, standing by us & we didn't see any wristbands on their wrists. Why was I targeted? What criteria did I meet being judged? I sat at the bar whole time, never walked through to use restroom & out? Anyhow I'm over it & thank you kindly for addressing this but I'll stick to where they treated me fair & respectfully - middle aged, minority & orientation (my family/bffs are LGBTQ+ whom I love for who they are) Hate having to post negative reviews but establishments need to do better & respect all people including aging. Review reflects night of 8/25/24. Tried posting to other popular search engine "G" reviews but apparently was removed-filtered out of the reviews. I'm old AF & yet got scolded by another old person -bartender to go get a wristband before I sat at the bar- they waited till my husband left me alone to use the restroom to inform me. We walked from the casino up the street & had a few drinks so I didn't think to show ID & didn't want to ruin his birthday arguing, so I told the bouncer what was said & he said "they told you that?" shaking head w/a wtf expression, looked like he didn't want to deal with it & humored both of us putting wristband on. Honestly that's the only reason I rated this bar so low. And why I felt insulted & puzzled why they told me that & just didn't ask for my ID? And yes, why didn't I just show it to them!? My husband said they were rude & my take is that they were probably having a bad night & just end it here. Note to owner, please have your employees ID people instead of scolding them if they can't properly judge a person's age.

One of the reasons I keep coming back is the availability of private dining rooms that are conveniently located near the main dining area. If you're planning a group dinner meeting, just be aware that the sliding doors don't completely block out the noise from the dining room, so conversations may not be as secluded as you'd expect. That said, the food is consistently outstanding. The heirloom tomato salad is an absolute must-order. The crème fraîche dressing is incredible. Pro tip: save some bread to soak up every last bit of it. For the main course, the mesquite-smoked carne asada is exceptional. The meat is cooked perfectly, and the combination of pinto beans, ranchera sauce, and slightly sweet corn pudding creates a balanced and memorable dish. The portions are thoughtfully sized! Satisfying without leaving you feeling overly full. And whatever you do, don't skip dessert. They're all worth trying, but the macchiato cake is the standout and the perfect way to end the meal. I asked for the $100 we spent in admission to be put towards the bottle. Staff said yes that was fine. Asked us what mixers we wanted, I said pineapple and cranberry, they brought us 1 pineapple and 1 orange. The waitress took my card and asked me what I wanted the sign to say, walked away and literally never came back to our table. Until wayyyy later. We were seated for over an hour and all we had was juice. I booked this table on April 11th. Also all the MEN were upstairs on elevated surfaces like a bunch of BITCHES. literally like a middle school dance with all the girls on one side and the boys on the other. We booked this place bc we saw it was highly recommended but it was NOT fun at ALL. They wasted our money and our time. I recommend chill bar over copa. The bachelor group that came in WAY after us was immediately served with their sign and drinks. Apparently you have to be a male to get attention. We literally never saw our waitress again until we deadass chased her down. Fake Blonde hair, fake blue eye contacts. There were 2 other bachelorette groups in the building that left within the time span we did because it was such a terrible time. Some random man stepped into our section & put his empty drinks on our table as if there wasn't as entire bar for him to bring his empty cups to. Disrespectful. There was also a crew filming in the section next to us, smoking some sort of blunt/cigarillo inside. We had a much better time at chill bar.

The two-top table near the bar, with mustard-fabric lounge chairs on low spindled "moon-lander" inspired supports seem to have jumped right out of a 60's time machine, matching the retro vibe in the whole place. Our server was delightful, regaling us with her informative descriptions of her favorite dishes... it's fabulous when a server knows the menu so well that they can describe not only what's in the dish, but why it's so good. Cocktails were an obvious strength, and after my first choice, the pear-inspired Akita was regrettably "out of stock" (she informed us that they had run out of the fresh pear syrup they make by hand each day), I was steered to the It's Giving Julius. This boozy take on the classic Orange Julius, with a mouth-watering egg-white-textured foam floating on rum-infused a citrus blast. For Gayle, it was a moment to savor the non-alcoholic "Clutch Your Pearls," complete with boba pearls atop an icy lime-green concoction. The entire restaurant is themed on "American comfort food with an Asian twist." And let me say, they nailed it in every aspect. My bowl of Tteokbokk was a brilliant spin on a classic Rigatoni bowl, subbing Korean rice cakes for pasta and gochujang spiked tomato sauce for marinara, but keeping the rich parmesan/mozzerella cheese. At the server's suggestion, I topped it with fried pork belly, well executed and delicious, the entire bowl was light with an arrabiatta-like kick. My wife had the Garlic Noodles... imagine a creamy bowl of chicken noodle casserole straight out of the 60's, but without a can of Campbell's Cream of Chicken in sight. Velvety sauce glazed perfectly cooked Ramen noodles with vegetables and chicken... took her right back to her mother's kitchen where the same dish was the perfect remedy for the flu - comforting and scrumptuous without being too heavy. And finally having not overstuffed ourselves on this trip, we opted for the "poor life choice" of dessert. And after asking for the "simple plate of milk and cookies," the server corrected me and stated - rightly so - that this was anything but simple. Three stuffed cookies: Red Velvet with cheesecake cream, S'mores with marshmellow, and cinnamon filled Churro - nuggets from Heaven's bakery, with a glass of cold milk. We managed to finish it and roll on out full of some of the best food we've had this year. The only minor hiccup was when trying to buy merch on our way out, the front stand didn't have a terminal to let us pay, so we had to seek out a bartender to run our credit card (and they were super busy). A minor complaint in the grand scheme... get those hosts a card reader! Note: We didn't see a single dog in the place... but they clearly are welcome to 4-legged clientele. Such a fun spot.

We were taken to our table roughly 10-15 minutes after our reservation, which was perfectly fine. When we were seated, we decided on appetizers to order. Our waiter came over and we put in our appetizer order, but said we'd like more time to decide on main courses. The appetizers came out very slowly, and we were then told that one of the orders (the ube focaccia) had run out, so we could get regular focaccia instead, which we did not want to do. Two orders of tuna tacos were brought to our table but we had only ordered one, and on the receipt they made it look as though they "comped" the second order (which was taken back once they realized we hadn't ordered it). We didn't get to order our main dishes for quite some time, and then it took ages for the dishes to come out. They were tasty, but we were getting to the point that we were ready to go home if the food didn't come out within the next few minutes. Once the mains did arrive, my friend asked if there is any rice we could order, and our waiter said yes, but they had just run out. We found this very odd - ube focaccia is one thing, but who runs out of rice? My husband ordered a beer which was never brought to him, and upon getting the bill, my friend said that we didn't receive one of our drinks. The waiter then said "yeah, I forgot about it. But don't worry, it's not on the receipt." Again, strange. Our waiter seemed very disengaged and unapologetic, which I found odd. I can understand that he was busy, but to not apologize for forgetting the drink, running out of one of our appetizers, running out of rice, and waiting a very long time for our dinner seemed strange. Plus, the food was quite expensive (and the portions were relatively small), so it felt especially bizarre that the service was so off. I wouldn't come back because of the service and the price for the portions, but the food did taste very good. I'm disappointed because I wanted to love it here!

If you can't get a reservation, bar seats are first come, first served, and I can see why people line up for them. This was probably the most expensive meal of our trip, and at times you definitely feel it. A Belvedere martini with no vermouth for $27 made me laugh a little. This isn't Vegas. That said, much of the food was excellent. The Duck Liver Pâté was incredible, and the Red Thai Curry Mussels were unique without overwhelming heat. The Cacio e Pepe was one of the standout dishes of the week. Those thick noodles were fantastic. We also ordered the Steak Frites and upgraded to filet. Unfortunately, it came out overcooked, and I asked for it to be removed from the check. On the other hand, the Smoked Bone-In Duroc Pork Chop was perfectly prepared and incredibly moist. Dessert finished strong. The Aniston's Pavlova was excellent, especially the Chantilly cream. The warm chocolate chip cookies were delicious too, although $15 for cookies is definitely a Palm Springs moment. Pricey? Very. Worth experiencing? Absolutely.
