A solid contender for one of the best burgers in Houston. We got the small block and split it which was plenty big, it's a half pound burger! The next size up is a full pound - egads. I'm not normally a fan of bigger sized burgers, I prefer smash burgers or smaller diner style burgers, however, this is the exception. This was good quality beef that was expertly seasoned and char-grilled, it had a perfect char, and was extremely flavorful. The bun was just so so, and it came with the usual toppings, which were all fine, but the star was absolutely the burger itself. We will be back often for it. The other star was the fried pickles, they sliced them paper thin, and there's a light coating of breading on it, which was just phenomenal, I've never had pickle chips like this. If you are a pickle lover, you will love these. Also enjoyed the onion rings, they're battered and fried in house, and you can really taste the difference. Billy, the bartender was super friendly, helpful, and attentive. As was the other bartender that came on later after him, did not catch her name. It was a nice neighborhood crowd, and mix of all ages and types of people, we felt very comfortable and welcome here. While the bourbon selection was a little lacking, they more than made up for it by the generous sized pours, and extremely reasonable drink prices. They also had several pool tables and darts, they have nights where there's free, pool and free darts, and a ton of other daily drink, specials, etc. This is a place I would feel comfortable coming to alone, or with a group of friends. The only reason I can't give it five stars is simply due to the smoke. It's a shame these northside dive bars are all fully smoking. I so wish someone would open a dive bar around here that at least had an area for non-smokers. I woke up with a sore throat this morning and could still smell the smoke on my clothes as I put them in the washer. I am super allergic to smoke, and this place was extra smoky. Next time, we will try to come when it's less crowded, maybe the smoke levels will be a little bit more tolerable. That was the only downside. read more

Always a great vibe here. They treat everybody like friends and family. My husband and I are sometimes a little wary to go to "regular" Dive bars in the area because we're not always sure if will be accepted as the married couple that we are. Gearheads has always treated us with respect every time that we have been there. We have seen the management and staff treat everyone equally regardless of gender, race or orientation. This is a great neighborhood bar with a very good food program that's worth stopping by. read more

I love this place! Was there this past Saturday nite with friends. Great service! Awesome food! Fun atmosphere! New pool tables. Wow what a hidden gem! On Sunday they have the small block burger with cheese and fries for 5.50! I believe it's a real hand made patty too! You can't beat that price ! The fries seem to be homemade as well and the box is filled with them. They call this burger the small block burger and it is far from small. It's huge ! I couldn't finish it! Well I was also being a gluten haha and I got 8 wings as well. They were really good. I got 4 hot and 4 garlic parmeasean. I finished the wings. If you want a huge burger and fries come here! Probably the best bar food I've ever had. I'm a big spicy fan, and if you are too, this is your spot. Great wings and the battered and fried jalapeno bites are a must try. Ghost pepper burger challenge? Yes. Extremely hard to handle but if you manage to beat it, the meal is free and you get $25 bucks worth of credit towards drinks behind the bar. The bartenders are very friendly and hardworking. If you aren't a fan of second hand smoke, it might get a little rough for you during their busy times, which is later at night when the industry crowd pours in. Over all, a great place to have a drink, shoot a game of pool, or get frustrated by the unforgiving South Park pinball machine they have next to the Internet jukebox. read more

Food is EXCELLENT. Sometimes I just order food and pick it up, it's that good. Only knock on it is that they close the kitchen at 9 during the week and 10 on weekends. They have pool, shuffle board, and a few arcade games. One night a week they have free pool play, not sure exactly what day sorry. They are open until 2 every night so grabbing a beer with friends is never a problem, we usually hit this place up after 12. The bartenders are cool, and always checking on you to make sure you're ok, drink wise. I'll continue being a regular at Gearheads. read more

I've only been here a couple of times, but it's usually pretty fun place to hang out. It's not a very commercialized bar so there is a different feel to it. I like coming here and splitting a well priced pitcher amongst friends. One negative thing I do have to say about this place is that there is a lot of smoking at this bar, so when you go home it you also smells like smoke. Other than that it is pretty chill read more

Okay, the place is smokey. Not much appeal for those trying to get away from the smoke. Your clothes will stink. However the employees are great and accommodating. The crowd looks like your typical middle class with some rough edges, but it goes with the territory. I'm a reluctant fan but would rather choose The Farm down the road. read more
