My second time at Bungalow, this time for a friend's birthday dinner and it's clear that this restaurant is consistent when it comes to good eats! I'll just start off with a quick recommendation from the first visit (because didn't do review that time): the Snapper - immediately yes, if you are not opposed to bony fish and working for your meal in that way lol. Now for this visit I was tempted to get the snapper again but was feeling simple & easy dining, something that didn't require me to use my hands lol. I went with the Peruvian Chicken and it did the job! Great portion, great price, great flavor. Comes with a verde sauce that I was a bit hesitant about, if I'm being honest, but it was so perfect with the chicken and the potatoes. I give it an overall 8.5/10 and it probably would've more if I would've gotten a little more potatoes with my meal. The lobster Mac was okay. The lobster was well cooked but the mac was a standard mac and cheese. Not pictured but I tried from my neighbors and liked: the seafood dip and the wagyu meatball pasta - would likely be my next Bungalow order. Atmosphere is beautiful, but service for a private party of 17 was extremely poor. Lackluster service, "manager" Gabrielle has extremely poor customer service and attention to detail and apologetics. Food waited in the private event room for 20 minutes without being served to guests, multiple drinks/glasses broke, and there was visibly no accountability for the several food issues associated with our large party. Gabrielle's attitude towards asking for corrections for your meal was substandard for what you should've received at such as "nice" establishment. The event room was unusually warm. As busy as it appears with the ratings online- I would definitely say it's inflated due to the chef (taste of food) and NOT the service. To have spent $400 for my meal with my spouse- we received a $50 meal with $0 service. Chic-Fil-A has better customer service. Let's just say, I kept saying "we have to come back" the entire night. This place is literally perfect. I celebrated my birthday here and it was time well spent. That food and those cocktails were IT! We had the Dynamite shrimp, Wagyu meatball pasta, the Chop and lobster Mac. They give you so much food so you definitely get your monies worth. We walked into the building and it seemed like no one was there cause no one was at the host stand so I say we waited at least 10 minutes until somebody came to the host stands to see us, but that was OK. The food was worth the weight. They gave us a bottle of champagne and they set me and my cousin at our table she ordered the lamb chops. I got the double eggs, truffle fries, and I can't remember what type of drink I had but me and my cousin both got the same drink the place always look nice and so chic and it wasn't a lot of people in there for happy hour by the time we live it was a lot of people the vibes was Vibin. The vibe is gorgeous with stylish decor, pretty lightning and they welcome you with a complimentary glass of champagne at the door which sets the mood right away. This review is a bit postponed so I can't recall a lot of details from my experience here. I came in a larger group to celebrate a birthday and remember the service being excellent! The champagne glass offered upon entry while we waited for our table to get set up was a nice touch. I shared the whole fried snapper and a side of brussel sprouts with my friend and we both gave it a 3.5/5. The batter was flavorful and presentation was okay. However the pricing on the menu compared to the quality of the food is a deterrent for me to consider coming back here. Everything we tasted was good, but not "wow" enough to consider it as a luxury dining experience. Cocktails were beautiful and tasty. More on the $20+ side which was fine with me given the quality of them. Parking in this area is a bit tricky though and you will pay $12+ with a little bit of a walk (a block most) to get to the restaurant. Also very close to paid parking, literally you park see the mural, walk around the corner and you have arrived. I will always love and appreciate the flexibility of a Chef that takes on the challenge of preparing something for a Vegan diet. My dish was a veggie and pasta, that was worth every bite and I would gladly eat it again. This was accompanied by tempura fried asparagus and a dipping sauce, if desired. We came here on a Thursday night with a party of six. You should definitely make a reservation. When we entered we were greeting with glasses of complimentary sparkling wine. We were right on time for our reservation and seated immediately. We started with the lobster bisque. It was buttery, filled with delicious lobster pieces. It was well flavored and had the perfect level of thickness. Our main entrees were the red snapper and the 8 oz filet mignon with truffle garlic butter. We shared an assortment of sides with the table including green beans, mashed potatoes, and Mac n cheese. My favorite side was the green beans. They were well seasoned and cooked well and not too hard so they still had nutritional value. The filet mignon with the truffle garlic butter was chefs kiss. It was cooked to a perfect medium that let the hemoglobin flow freely as I cut into it. Each bit was a perfect blessing. The red snapper was excellent! The fish was fried but so light and crispy. Whole Fried Snapper: Cornmeal Crust, Pickled Chilies, Cajun Sweet Chili Sauce, Remoulade Sauce 10/10- first of all, snapper is my most favorite fish ever. And this did not disappoint. These black and green beans were absolutely delicious. And I even ate it without the sauce that it came with and they were still so good. Maybe the way they blackened it made the difference because I typically do not like OR EAT green beans EVER. These were out of the this world yummy! Grilled asparagus 9/10- yum. Most people will say you can't mess up asparagus up but, trust me, it has been done before! And I won't even call out the restaurants...the elite and upscale restaurants that have done it! These were done very well. They were buttery and savory but still mild and flavor. Nice crunch but not too much. Not soggy or wet at all. Complete perfection. Passion fruit mocktail 10/10 I don't know what they put in this but in my eyes passion fruit can never do any wrong. This was rich and sweet and bright and juicy and all the things. So bloody delicious. Cucumber mint mocktail- 10/10 cucumber mint is a classic combination and they knocked it out of the park. It was refreshing and sweet and incredibly yummy. Passion fruit surprise mocktail- this was a drink they brought at the end of the evening for us because we mentioned that we like passion fruit. Our server kept stating the kitchen and bar was backed up. We were confused because the restaurant wasn't even packed to be backed up. I have been here when it was packed and my service was better, food was served hot and drinks came in a timely manner. Lastly, I assume our food and drinks took forever was because they had influencers and a photographer taking pics eating food and drinks. They have a display at the entrance full of gold bottles of Ace of Spade champagne. The decor is so nice that a group had a photoshoot at the dining entrance. It was a bit of a distraction after a while but I also understand that sometimes when celebrating a big moment you want to go all out and memorialize it. Our waitress was very nice and polite, and was able to give good recommendations on the menu. I did give my friend a liqueur bottle as a birthday gift and the waitress was able to put it on ice for us but unfortunately the manager came by and informed us we couldn't have a bottle that they didn't serve out, which I do understand. For drinks I had a peach refresher mocktail that I enjoyed, and I remember the birthday person enjoying the Heartbreaker Strawberry Lemon Drop cocktail they offer. For an appetizer we had the Pineapple Jerk Lemon Pepper Wings, which has all of those flavor profiles come together very nicely. I only wish there were more wings because they were so good they were gone before I was ready. For my entree I went with the Whole Fried Snapper because it sounded the best to me at the time and the great whole fried fish presentation. I can happily say that I made a great decision. The snapper was delicious and there was so much of it that I couldn't finish it there. The biggest downside to it was that as it is a whole fish, I had to work around the bones, but the fish by no means lacked in meat. My birthday friend had the 8oz Filet Mignon. Choosing the starchy combo of Bruleed Cream Corn and Mac & Cheese as sides didn't help in the heaviness of the meal, but they were good so no regrets. Now for me one major downside is the automatic 20% service charge added to all bills regardless of party size. I'm personally not a fan of it because even if I intended to tip more than their charge, the forced change makes me not want to add a tip. Overall I do feel it's a very nice restaurant that has it's share of highlights but that automatic service charge doesn't allow me to give it a higher rating. I think a great meal and great service shouldn't be paired with an obligatory fee that you would usually give freely out of appreciation for the experience. I chose this place because it's a black owned, fine dining restaurant and even though the fee does give me hesitation on going back, I would return because most everything else about dining here was exceptional. read more

I can't give it five stars because automatic 20% gratuity (they call it a service fee???) on any check regardless of service or food quality is THEFT. Black restaurants have to stop doing this. It's gross. The food was good, the wait WITH a reservation was about 20 mins and the lot next to it costs $30 to park. The cost of an entree with NO sides averages $45. First off let me say Genell provided the best dining experience I've ever had in my life. She was so hospitable, friendly and professional. Her level of service was outstanding!!! The ambience of date night wouldn't have been the same without her warming and attentive personality. The food was amazing. We had the Wagyu Meatballs (9/10), Pineapple Jerk Lemon Pepper Wings (10/10), Fried lobster tail with honey butter (11/10), and Lobster Mac & Cheese (8/10). The atmosphere of the restaurant also stood out. Interior design was tasteful and the music elevated the vibe. This is my new favorite spot in Houston for sure. Please keep Genell!!! read more
