This is a review of the restaurant specifically. I thought it was great -- the pizzas especially (we got margherita and meatball) were excellent, as were the burrata, share plate, and especially the carrots. The pork chop and steak were both good but I'd probably skip in the future.

this was the second time dining here which was a preview of there new italian spot they will be opening and it was once again amazing. The entire property is beautiful and the restaurant is no different. We started with the meatballs and calamari and both were delicious. the chef is well known and you can tell in the plating and explosion of flavors in the dishes. for entrees we went with spicy rigatoni which had one of the best sauces I have ever had, reminded me of a meal my italian grandma would make for us growing up, we also went with the eggplant parmesan which is easily the best eggplant parm i have ever had. the service was great and attentive especially with the place being packed and every table full. they also have a great cocktail/beer list with large wine list as well. living 20 minutes away only thing i can say is i wish i had started going here sooner. I also feel that they prices are very fair for the portions and the taste does each meal its own justice.

Since it was winter, we were seated inside, which was the downstairs area of a giant renovated barn. The crackers and hummus they brought us to start, were delicious-- delightfully garlicky. Although there was a vegetarian main course available (Roasted Broccoli, fingerling potatoes + feta + herbs + greek yogurt) I was intrigued by the side dish of grilled broccoli rabe with cheddar cheese sauce + aleppo + lemon. I'm glad I got that dish because it was delicious! Honestly, the vegetarian entree just sounded a bit boring to me-- maybe the description was spare, but the broccoli rabe sounded much more exciting to me. I also ordered the side of potatoes (my mom texted me and told me I must order them), but apparently the preparation has changed over time (they used to do a side of crispy potatoes). The roasted potatoes were fine, just a bit boring. Similarly, the grilled bread with leeks were fine, they just lacked some type of element to bring it all together. My husband got the house made cavatelli, which was delicious and I then regretted not ordering for myself, sans shrimp. Luckily, he is generous, so I was able to steal a bunch from him. He said the ribs he got were also delicious. He tried to order a beer, but unfortunately it never arrived to our table, despite requesting it a second time from the waitress-- it was a very busy Friday. I'd like the return in the summer to sit outside and try more things from the menu.

Review is for the RESTAURANT ONLY. Our group of six made reservations during Covid Times for an early dinner as it was a bit chilly that evening. They gave me a bit a hassle when I told them I'd be bringing my registered service dog -- first the gal said no dogs allowed and after some explaining of the law (and a talk to the manager) it was taken care of. The covered patio is enclosed on only three sides and the wind does get in -- so dress warm! Heat lamps help a bit if you sit close to them. The setting is lovely with a view of the fields and grassy areas outside. When you enter you'll pass by a large outdoor oven where they were busy making pizzas -- so all of our party just had to try them. We did get a few apps -- the roast carrots with almond butter/yogurt sauce was good -- but the carrots were hard and would have benefited by being roasted longer. As for the pizzas -- we thought they were just "ok" and perhaps better quality crust, sauce, and toppings would improve them. Maybe our party of six has been spoiled by New York City and Brooklyn pizza? The setting does make the place and perhaps we will try some of the Main Courses next time.

I love what the chef is doing here. Farm fresh, local vegetables prepared in a thoughtful way. Very friendly staff. Nice ambiance. The vegan polenta dish pictured here is one of my top favorite meals of all time. It was outstanding! Can't wait to go back.

Staying here out of wedding obligation was a bit of a rut. A hotel in the $300 per night range would lead someone to believe that there would be at least a television, wifi, and a pool. No to all three. You will find a very shabby chic, bare essentials bedroom with a small bathroom and stand up shower or tub in some rooms. The rooms were really loud. You hear every voice and stomping from the upper floor rooms. The rooms are dark because there is only one small window while the other window is blocked by the window air conditioner. The lamp shades had holes in them from prior tenants. And the fireplaces are just for show and don't actually work. The rooms are musky and have a mildewy smell from the lack of ventilation in the bathroom. The actually "barn" next door for wedding receptions is picturesque from the outside. On the inside, the reception area is split up into two levels - the main floor and the loft. Your guests who are seated on the "loft" or balcony will not be able to see anything unless perched over the railing. Therefore, they would be very separated. The ceremony occurs up and over a hill about a 5 minute walk from the "barn." There is obviously no hookups for sound systems. Therefore, your rabbi needs a good set of lungs so that everyone can hear him/her. During the cocktail hour, Gedney served very nice sangria and finely cooked appetizers. During the reception, the fish was overcooked and the filet mignon not so note-worthy. The service was impeccable and very kind. Do NOT rely on GPS to get you here. It will get you lost. Call reception and get specific instructions before you leave. Once you enter the woods, there is zero reception. Those coming from Boston must give themselves more than 5 hours to arrive on a Saturday. Traffic can be horrific on mass pike.

(THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE NEW RESTAURANT @ GEDNEY FARM - Please call for dinner days and times as this is not currently open every day of the week.) Many of you know how I felt when the magic that was Mepal Manor ended. Distraught. Alone. Hopeless. However, last night at Gedney Farm's newly opened restaurant, I was once again hopeful, and dare I say...even a bit giddy. The weather outside was proverbially frightful, but the stone fireplace was roaring...and truly delightful. Once inside we were met with glowing candlelight, a relaxed, homey ambiance, and the inimitable James Love. Before we had even ordered cocktails James had our martinis shaking at the bar. Ah, he remembered. It seems that Mepal's magic was only sleeping to now be reborn at Gedney Farm. Chef Rob did his usual fantastic turn in the kitchen to provide us with some true delights. The Mediterranean Board, the orecchiette with chicken confit and French green lentils, and the wilted kale salad were standouts. To perhaps be (deservedly) redundant in this review, the service, with Mr. Love at the helm, was perfection. Adding to the magic of the evening was the surprise of beloved neighbors showing up randomly and as if timed by some greater power. Of course, the power of Brad Wagstaff and Leslie Miller (the owners) are certainly enough to bring us all out of our typical Winter hiding. Local, lovely, and Mr. Love...what more could one want. Oh, I know...the bill for the meal was so reasonable compared to what you might pay in GB. I'm not one for recommending a bargain for bargain's sake alone. 'L'addition' was a cherry on the sundae of a perfect evening. We'll be back, and hopefully you will to, but first you have to go a first time. So, what are you waiting for, Dear Readers? Magic awaits at Gedney.

Ok so full disclosure we had our wedding at Gedney. Everything was perfect. Colleen and James took care of everything. We had our ceremony outdoors on their beautiful grounds, and the reception in the event barn. We first came to Gedney last year for a night away. The food was and is amazing, local, seasonal and generous. ( My mom had a dish with fresh plums from the tree outside the inn). The dairy is all from a nearby farm and the fresh butter on warm fresh baked scones is enough to make me drool just remembering it. The rooms in the inn all have their quirks. The upstairs ones have these amazing bathtubs with jets and indoor skylights (they look out into the high roof of the huge barn so you get lots of light without being cold or exposed.) Down stairs you get a shower. The furniture is all antique and can be a little shabby with no tv or stereo. On the other hand, the place is so comfortable and fun that I've never missed the TV. In the winter there are crackling fires and snow shoes. In summer you can walk out to the babbling brook and admire the rows of sun flowers. All in all a fantastic place to stay, eat and party.

The yummy steak that didn't take.

I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!

Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

But the Red Dot seems to nail every single dish. We started with the multigrain vegan waffle with fresh fruit and loved it! So clean and flavorful, with perfectly ripe fruit. We loved all the fresh vegetables perfectly cooked, adding a variety of textures and flavors. It is offered as mild, medium, or hot; we got hot, which was great but not overly spicy, and we might request extra spicy next time.
