The best new restaurant in the Berkshires! Delicious fish, chicken, beef entrees and several original vegetable dishes. Hot bread, a great wine selection and bar, and original desserts. If you love Chez Panisse in Berkeley or the many farm to table restaurants around the country you have to make your way to West Stockbridge to Heirloom Lodge. The atmosphere is relaxing and the windows look out on spring trees. It is easier to book off season but be sure to get reservations May to October. We enjoyed the Jazz and the service. Not my cup of tea at all. To start with, the menu is extremely limited and the kitchen is not willing or able to deal with dietary restrictions. This is the only restaurant I have ever eaten at which considers 3 ounces of Flat Iron steak to be an appropriate portion for an adult diner. Our table of four ordered a bottle of white wine, a Sancere, which was brought to the table at at a temperature inappropriate for a fine white wine ... and not cheap at that. I ordered the tuna diner, which amounted to four minuscule tidbits. I had instructed the server that I wanted my tuna BLACK AND BLUE in temperature, it arrived over cooked and overly peppered. Speaking for the rest of the table, all of the portions were almost laughably small. The plates brought to our table were more of a tasting than a diner. Had my wife not ordered a salad, which was of decent size, she would have left as hungry as I did. Not normally needing a desert, I was so hungry that I ordered what was described as a coconut pudding like concoction. All can say about it is it was white and totally tasteless, sort of like 2 percent milk with gelatin. My wife made the same error. Neither of us ate the pudding. In short, had we not been brought there by family members who live in the Lenox area, I would have sent my diner back to the kitchen. I thanked our family but in truth would never go back to this well over hyped place again. To add to the poor dining experience, the floor plan designer of this establishment actually chose to place an unguarded stairwell directly in-front of an exit door. Heirloom Lodge never disappoints. It just gets better and better! And this season is its best ever. The restaurant is close enough to Tanglewood and Jacob's Pillow to allow for an early dinner before the curtain goes up. And what a dinner. The appetizers are as eventful as the entrees and the wine pairings are inspired. Though the steak, trout and chicken offerings are absolutely perfect, my heart belongs to vegetarian delicacies such as the pear soup or the homemade gnocchi, not to mention the mouth watering squash with carmen pepper romesco, ricotta salata and toasted almonds! But the bacon and onion tart over wild arugula is perhaps my favorite item on the menu; I never fail to order it. The good news: one can have it ALL. No need to choose! It's always rough to wrote a whiney review when most others are gushing, but the 'Heirloom Lodge' was underwhelming. Starting from the top: the room is nice, but the mood lighting so moody I couldn't really see what I was eating; service needs some work for a restaurant claiming to be high-end; food... mushroom soup brown water with a few mushrooms of some sort floating around in it, my companion's gnocchi were dry and tasteless, my chicken (I thought it a safe choice) was unattractively plated, dry and similarly tasteless and I left most of it, salads were fine, and chocolate cake desert unexceptional. Drinks? I go to a restaurant for the food, not the wine list. A restaurant is only as good as it needs to be; I'd say this one needs to be a lot better before I'd go back again. read more

everything is so well executed. The atmosphere, the service of food......... I had the fettuccine, and I could taste every single thing that was in it. My taste buds thought they were at a carnival. They don't serve vodka because they want or tasteless in the restaurant. So I had a Manhattan instead of martini I think everybody in there believes in what they're doing I really don't understand how I could reserve a table Saturday morning or Saturday evening and get one. I didn't have a problem with the food, only the management and service. I asked for a small substitution accompanying the main entree for dietary/medical reasons and they wouldn't even consider it. Manager seemed completely uninterested in guests' satisfaction, and I detected a whiff of homophobia as well. Our server was clueless and forgot to bring things we asked for. The place caters to weekenders, not locals. Prices are high and drink pours are risible. Go elsewhere for better value and service. read more

Pros: The atmosphere and food were good. Unlike some other reviews, I found the staff very attentive. Cons: (not quite 'Cons', but items I found 'odd'). There is no cell or WiFi at the premises. I can understand the benefit to that, however my dining partner was running late and tried to contact me .. to no avail. The Menu was confusing.. almost purposely so. It was difficult to distinguish between what was offered as an appetizer and an entree. I am sure the staff gets tired having to explain it again and again. There is no vodka served . They have a full bar.. why no vodka? They have gin. Seems odd... just like the confusing Menu.. it almost seems different for different sake. Hopefully the Resturant would be kind enough to answer. I will certainly go back.. however I shall let my guests know that they won't be able to reach me .. and to have their martinis in advance. read more

Was excited to go to HL after hearing mixed things about it for over a year. It's a converted inn with a double-height ceiling that showcases the old fireplace and flue -a very nice beginning. But the acoustics were terrible. I could barely hear our friends and I was nearly hoarse by the end of the night from over-extending my vocal cords. The exterior decor looked more like a place on the way out vs. someplace new and trending. Unplanted or unkempt flower boxes did not make for a warm or charming welcome., this was supposed to be a special country inn/lodge, or so i thought. Dishes were over seasoned. My appetizer of tuna conserva with farro and frisée dressed with pickles, cherries, and dijon mustard sounded intriguing but was exceptionally vinegary and had way too much mustard which overpowered the entire dish. My entrée of homemade fettuccine with razor clams, pancetta and celery in a white wine reduction was tasty but very salty, and the pancetta overpowered the razor clams which typically have a unique delicate taste and would have been better served by themselves. My partner had the special burger thathe thought it was tasteless and rubbery. When he asked for some ketchup, A1 or even mayo, they had none of those and could only offer him Dijon mustard. Why even offer a burger as a special; (because they must know that someone either wants it or maybe there could be someone or some kids who would find the menu too fussy and complicated?) So why not have the traditional condiments that would go with a burger to satisfy the gourmands' taste level.And for $22 (no fries or side) it looked like a poor 2nd cousin to the rest of the dishes.. The place has high ambitions, and offered good service, but seems to lack the cooking expertise and management skills to achieve them. For having been open a year, it doesn't seem like they have learned any lessons from the past 12 months to make some much needed improvements. It feels like the owner and chef, who has a great pedigree in food, wine, and restaurants, doesn't realize his current Berkshire customer base of "cultured hill folk" has the same, or perhaps even high standards than his LA or San Fran followers. read more

Beautiful restaurant with some memorable dishes, but the portions were ridiculously small. The appetizer with fresh figs was delicious, but the pieces of fig were so tiny you had to search for them. The salmon (steelhead trout) was also outstanding but the portion of fingerling potatoes within it was so small you could barely notice them. Really, guys, you can't spare any more potatoes? I left the restaurant hungry and didn't want to order dessert because I imagined it would be a beautifully presented spoonful of something for $15.00. A very expensive restaurant for what you get. The food was outstanding. The service was as well. It's an absolutely beautiful room and easy to converse with everyone at our table.

We made reservations here before visiting Winter Lights at Naumkeag and we were glad we did. The host and our waitress were very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful when we needed directions to Naumkeag and we had no cell service! It's a beautiful spot - great for a romantic dinner. We went with the food and wine pairing three course special and weren't disappointed! The food was delicious, especially the lemon tart for dessert! We really enjoyed the wines and they paired nicely! Thanks for a fabulous start to our evening! read more

We were not impressed. The ambiance is frenetic and noisy with a big open kitchen that is fun to watch ... up to a point. Then it gets a bit crazy. The menu is a bit confusing, The apps and mains are put together in the same list so it's hard to know what is what. A better layout would be welcome. We ordered the whole chicken for two which was OK, but on the dry side, kind of bland and very expensive ($62 for a chicken?). Speaking of cost, we asked for bread for the four of us. We got 4 pieces for which we were charged $10. There are wonderful restaurants in the area that give you excellent bread -- for free! Then we asked for some more honey mustard for the chicken which came in a small 3" diameter dish. That cost an additional $2.00! I will say the lettuces salad was very good! The service was very slow. We were seated at the far end of the community table which felt a little bit as though we were in Siberia. We arrived at 5:45 and didn't leave until 8pm...not cause we were having a great time. Had to chase down our waiter a couple of times. (I think there may have been only one waiter; not sure). In short, I think the restaurant, which opened in June, is still finding its feet. I hope it does. read more

After reading several Yelp reviews I feel compelled to share our experience. We had dinner recently and if you know the owner or are a regular customer you will probably have a nice meal. our group on the other hand was not as lucky. At one point our "server" was sitting down chatting with the table next to us. She clearly knew everyone at that table. I had to ask for a plate numerous times. The portions are very small with the exception of the roast chicken I did have the flatbread which was good. I never got my entree. She brought one portion of the dish to one of the other guests and said several ties she was bringing mine. At some point everyone at the table was finishing their meal so I told the server to cancel my order. No apology or "can I bring something else"? Everyone in my group said they would not be returning. A martini that someone ordered was ridiculously small. When she mentioned it to the server no comment! read more

This place was wonderful last year: It was consistently superb in every dimension. This year, summer 2025, sadly everything has changed. It was not at all like the past. There were about 10 or 12 appetizers but only three entrees on the menu. The appetizer was pretty good but tiny. The $62 chicken dinner for two could have served 3 or 4 people, but the chicken was dry and really tasteless, and served at just above room temperature. Mercifully, the chicken was served with a very strong mustard, which at least gave it some appeal, but it's bad news when chicken has to be served with mustard to make it interesting. They provided no bread, but $6 would get four slices of unremarkable bread (it was from Berkshire Mountain Bakery, which is usually very high quality, but this time it was less flavorful than usual and a little hard). The lemonade was very good but could not have been served in a smaller glass. The music was loud, making it hard to converse. The waiter was cheery, and the staff generally were clearly interested in being helpful, but the service was inattentive, and we had several long gaps when we didn't see the waiter. For this quality of experience, it wouldn't have been worth it at even half the price. I've been to this place many times last year and loved it every time (and written positive reviews). I don't know if I'll go back again this year. read more

Was excited to visit this new restaurant when vacationing in the Berkshires after it was recommended by a popular food blog. We found the space beautiful, the menu inviting but small, and the food mostly good. I can't recommend the restaurant due to serious service defects, however, which seem to come from the top. To start with the good -- we had two salads, the roasted chicken for one, and a burger special. Everything was tasty, with the exception of the chicken itself, the breast of which seemed dry and overcooked (but the flavor and sides were very good). We had a few service issues that we couldn't get over: -- Our server, who was friendly but open about her lack of knowledge about the menu and wine list, disappeared for a long time with uncleared plates on our table and an empty glass of wine. We eventually had to flag someone down for our check. -- This individual offered a free dessert, which we declined but made what we thought would be a small request, would it be possible to either connect to wifi or could someone help with directions back to a nearby town. At least for our Verizon phones, we didn't have cell service at the restaurant or in the vicinity and our travel to the restaurant involved a "shortcut" on a dirt road. This led to a very odd interaction with several staff members, as well as the owner. Two servers informed us that the owner would not allow them to share the WiFi password; we indicated that was fine, but could anyone help with basic directions. Our server very apologetically said she'd see what she could do. The owner then approached us and quite defensively stated that they just didn't have WiFi. We explained again, that was fine, but as a restaurant in an area with limited cell service, could someone point us to a town or highway? This request seemed to offend him. -- A lesser issue, but when we arrived promptly at our reservation time, the host led us to a table (objectively sort of in an odd spot) and, without prompting, apologized for the table, noting it was the only two-top available. We hadn't complained, but the experience was off putting, especially when the next two-top to arrive got a cozy corner table broken off from another table right next to us (which was also empty when we were seated) with a statement about what a nice table it was. Finally, to note a safety issue, there are no overhead lights in the parking lot and no light at all in the back portion of the lot (see attached picture). read more

Food is very good for the most part. Quite enjoyable atmosphere and the open kitchen was divine. The meal was lovely until I was served a tough steak. I was determined to win this battle, and managed to cut through about half the beef with the dull dinner knife I was given. When I requested a proper steak knife from the server, she was apologetic and said they HAD NONE for the guests, but would ask the chef. The chef/owner gruffly returned with a lecture informing us of the 35 years of experience he had in many fancy restaurants and never cooked a steak that needed a sharp knife to cut it. ugh. please. After this unpleasant interaction he took away my steak (which I wasn't done with but would have liked to be able to cut) and said he would take it off the bill. Well he didn't do that, but sent over an additional dessert which I didn't want. Then the hostess came to us and reprimanded her staff for taking this issue to the chef and not to her (another unpleasant lecture). Also she did not offer an apology, or a sharp knife. I can't imagine paying again for that misery. If you plan to go, bring your own knife and keep your opinions to yourself. read more

Menu selection limited and somewhat pretentious. Apple/walnut/cabbage salad was good. Baked NY steak with beans was tough and disappointing. Service was okay. Interesting ambiance with open kitchen and architecture. However, when kitchen gets busy firing orders ventilation suffers as well as noise levels making conversation difficult. read more

Interesting ambiance, although a bit loud. Food was good, but not outstanding. My major negative, however, was that the online menu on the website was out of date, and listed much lower prices than the menu at the restaurant. It is inexcusable that a restaurant can't post an up to date menu. The prices had gone up considerably, the options were not as extensive, and, as noted the dining room was very loud. The waiter we had was excellent, and knew his stuff. Service was pretty slow, but we were visiting friends we had not seen in awhile, so that wasn't a big issue. read more
