Getting a drink is hard. Getting food is even harder. And going to the bathroom is the hardest. And just when you are kind of tired of it all, getting home is really freakin' hard. I had none of those experiences at the West Coast Country Music Festival. It was easy to get a cab to the event. Our other friends were able to either take the bus or walk so none of us had a hard time of it. Since the venue is reasonably sized, I was able to find my friends easily and had enough space to throw down my blanket next to theirs even though we got there so late we missed the first act. Food and drink were plentiful and reasonably priced. They did the whole "token for a beer" thing which I usually hate. There were enough token selling booths though that it wasn't too bad. $20/3 tokens and each token bought you one cocktail or a large beer. The food lines were longer but they were also having a BBQ cook-off which meant there were tons of really tasty options. And most importantly for the ladies... the bathroom lines really weren't that long. They had the genius foresight to fence in a part of the parking lot and make it the "men only room"... which essentially was a dog-run style spot for the boys to pee in the bushes. Much appreciated by us lady folk as we would much rather the boys not take our spots in line for the port-a-potties. Ands lastly... the music. The sound could have been a little louder but otherwise we very much enjoyed the acts. The time in between performances was not too long and each performer played for about an hour or so. I was glad so many people came out to support this event bc I loooove country music. I hope to be yelping about the 2nd Annual West Coast Country Music Festival next year.

Go check out my Alice Now and Zen review. Anyway, back to the West Coast Country Music Festival. Great line up. Any SF resident should know that best way to get to Fort Mason is take the Muni. Good luck in finding parking! Yes, the outdoor restrooms were a bit interesting and weird for the men. The Band Perry is just adorable with the brothers and sister act and I can see them going strong in their careers. Yes, Zac Brown Band is everything I expected from what I saw on TV, but seeing them live just blew me away! Best thing about country music is the friendly people and down to earth everyone is. You don't get that a lot in other types of music. Funny thing, on the Muni bus heading home, there was this funny drunk guy from the concert who kept saying I see Zac Brown on the bus! LOL Too funny. Some notes: Safeway in the Marina really makes the best sandwiches so far in San Francisco that I have been to. Go Marina district! Yes, there was lots of barbecue tents but I didn't try any, so I can't review on that. There were long lines and a place where you can line dance in a barn. It was a neat experience and would love to go the another event if they were to have one. :-) Again great beautiful day with sun.

The sound did not carry from one porch to another despite the proximity. Dog and kid friendly. Not many food vendors, but a few neighbors had lemonade stands. I was impressed by how well organized it was for a first year event. It rivals Napa PorchFest. Next year I hope to see an even more eclectic mix of bands and a return of Bryan Kehoe and the Ventura Brothers.

Parking at Pier 27, on the Embarcadero, was free and easy on Saturday afternoon. There was no line to get in, and the event seemed to be well organized. It was spacious inside with plenty of visitors. But with two floors of vendor booths and displays, it never felt crowded. Exhibitors came from various countries including Argentina, Denmark, and the UK. Speaker sessions on the schedule offered ample seating in a separate space from the vendor booths. There was also a dining area on the first level selling food and drinks, with tables and seating available as well. Sure there were antique book collectors and researchers at this event. However, there were also visitors like me and my bf who probably couldn't afford to purchase anything on site and simply enjoyed exploring this museum of rare works, not just books, but maps, photographs, and various art pieces too. Some of the interesting items we came across were the book of Ancient and Oriental Music, the first american edition (second printing) of the diary of Anne Frank, On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, 18th century Aesop's Fables in rich contemporary hand-color and engravings, old comic books like Weird Tales and Wonder Stories, Yoshitoshi's Dramatic Portraits of 47 Ronin (woodblock prints, Tokyo 1869), uncorrected proofs for the first three books in J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series, an 18th century playing card recycled as a funeral notice, elaborate vintage pop-up books, and one of my faves, 18th and 19th century paper peep shows (3D tunnel books), featuring unique and amazing artworks I found delightful.

This event kicked off the SF Chefs celebration for 2012. This was the first time this event had been held, and judging by its success I hope it is offered again by SF Chefs and the San Francisco Giants. The price was very good, maybe just $10 more than I've paid for a single Giants game at AT&T Park this season, and that included the game ticket plus admission into the SF Chefs tasting area held in a cordoned off space at Seals Plaza behind the stadium. In order to make it fair so that all attendees got to sample everything ticketed event patrons received a passport of sorts listing all participating vendors with a checkbox next to it. All of the vendors participated in this checkbox method, but most brought enough food so asking for seconds or even thirds was not an issue. For me anyway sampling 11 portions, 1 dessert and several cocktails were enough to fill me up for the night. I did, however, ask for seconds from a couple of my favorites. They feature 100+ breweries from across the Bay Area, collab beers made just for beer week, food trucks, some merch, photo ops, and DJ tunes for when that dancing bug starts to kick in (it happens pretty quick for me). Tix usually start around $100, which is pretty steep but worth it. They had Pliny the Younger at 2020's event - the line was long, but moved quick. If you want a chance at Pliny it's best to get VIP tix, which allows you to get in an hour earlier than GA.

I've lived in San Francisco for over 13 years and have never been to an event as lovey as Cabfest. I was able to try cabs from Napa, Sonoma, and Paso, all in one place. The dinners and party the night before is not to be missed. I love meeting fellow Cab enthusiasts and having the opportunity to meet some of the wine makers.
