We would give them ZERO stars if possible. We've had this dental insurance since about1989 and they are ok dealing with simple issues such as cleanings. But that's as far as it goes. My husband had to have dental surgery (not cosmetic) and I called GEHA Dental to get coverage information. I was given the CPT (procedure codes) codes for the surgery and was told that it was a covered surgery using the codes they gave me and that it had to be performed in the doctor's office. My husband had the surgery in April, 2025 and the claim forms were submitted. The first set of claims were "lost" due to a change in their computer systems and I was asked to resubmit the claims, which I did. Later I find a huge mess in that there are duplicate claims and that it was causing confusion on their part. Needless to say, the claim was denied, but we did receive a check from them for about $70. Since then, we have both spoken to numerous "advocates" at GEHA Dental over a dozen and a half times with no one being able to give us any real explanations. God forbid that you ask to speak to a supervisor. We've asked at least 6 times to speak with a supervisor and no supervisor is ever available and no supervisor has ever called back after being told that we will be contacted within 72 hours. Once a supervisor was standing next to the "advocate" and I overheard the supervisor tell the advocate that she would not speak with me and that a supervisor call back request needed to be filled out. I was dumbstruck! We have filed an appeal on October 5th and still haven't heard anything. We were told that an appeal can take 6 months but I'm guessing that we'll never hear anything from them. Just keep the member in the dark, stretch out the waiting time and hopefully they'll forget about the almost $4,000 they forked out of their own pockets. Never again.....we cancelled our dental policy. We were told by our dentist's staff that they have nothing but problems with GEHA Dental. She stated that they really are not a dental insurance, more of a medical insurance that added dental coverage. She suggested Delta Dental, a REAL dental insurance company, and we switched as soon as we could. I do have to say however, GEHA medical coverage is top notch! They are professional, knowledgeable and offer great coverage. We've been thrilled with their services for years. read more

As soon as I no longer had "Other Health Insurance" for dental issues, I notified GEHA. The first claim after that was processed correctly. For the following claim, they somehow assumed I had my former "Other Health Insurance" and did not pay the full amount due. Four phone calls and three months later, it still isn't fixed. The employees I talk to on the phone are polite and seem helpful, but the problem just doesn't get fixed. read more

Avoid this service at all costs!!! They reel you in, but once you're signed up, you're left to deal with everything on your own. We paid for coverage for our daughter while she was in college, but once she was no longer dependent, we tried to cancel and were told we couldn't until the "open period." We live overseas, so continuing to pay made no sense, but we had no choice. Later, I had an emergency and attempted to use the service. For nearly a year, I was told my claim was "being processed." After following up countless times, I was finally told they had no record of anything I submitted even though I had mailed and faxed all required documents. I was traveling at the time and, unfortunately, didn't make copies my mistake. But even so, the level of incompetence and dishonesty is unacceptable. They've done nothing but delay, deflect, and deny. I'm beyond frustrated and cannot wait to cancel this scam of an insurance service. read more

GEHA has terrible claims processing!! We have spent literally hours on the phone trying to get our IN-NETWORK dentist paid by GEHA. We have even had multiple three-way calls with GEHA, the dentist's office, and me. In the last three-way call GEHA explained exactly what the dentist needed to do to get paid. The dentist's office followed the steps and what happened? I just got the EOB and they only paid a portion of the routine visit that is supposed to be covered 100% in-network (same "error" on mine and my wife's visit to the same dentist on the same day for the same service). I am typing this as I am on hold AGAIN with GEHA to get this straightened out. I am at 1h15m and counting. In addition, we cannot get access to my wife's EOBs on the GEHA portal. We have participated in numerous calls to GEHA, with the issue elevated to IT, but still no access. We have tried for months to get her access to EOBs. No success! So, about three months ago we asked to get paper EOBs because of the problem. Have we been sent any paper EOBs? Unfortunately the answer is no. The end result is that our dentist now requires us to pay at the time of service while we fight with GEHA to get payment. Thankfully we just had FEHD and BENEFEDS open season and I dropped GEHA for 2026. We have had a TERRIBLE experience with GEHA. Never again! read more

I had my Identity Stolen at a local dental office and to pour salt on my wound GEHA will not process claim for a new crown. I had a crown which was removed to repair a cavity then a new one made and they are still telling me to call the dental office that caused my identity theft. I am having a panic attack each time I called. It was bad enought that the dental office failed to report a data breach that resulted in spyware in my computer stealing sixty user names and passwords BUT GEHA just as bad with failing to pay a $2130 claim. They WERE great until January 2025. Now terrible. They dumped CIGNA's network without warning or notice. The new one is a pain to deal with. So now the in-network dentists are the same as ALL other insurance companies. Consequently, availability of in-network dental care is problematic. Now they require an EOB from primary medical insurance before they will review a dental claim. Even where primary medical insurance does not cover dental AT ALL. This is a system obviously designed to delay any payment. Supposed to cover exams, etc 100%. Recent claim for exam/cleaning only paid 22.5% - and claimed other insurance paid 42.5% - a lie. There is NO other insurance, and NO other payment. Recent claim for amalgam filling - supposed to pay 80%- actually paid 31.7%. At least that is what the GEHA EOB claims to have paid that - I haven't checked with the dentist to see if they actually did. Bottom line, slow pay, low pay, erroneous information in their EOB. if you are one of the rare people who has one of their in-network dentists who is both available and competent - this may still be a good deal. However if you were in-network last year, you almost certainly are NOT this year. If your dentist is not in their current network, they aren't worth dealing with. I will NOT renew. I would be significantly better off just paying cash. I have been with GEHA dental for more than a decade. However, based on how the dental insurance has been handled, I will now avoid everything GEHA touches. read more

I've called them several times to resolve an issue with a claim being marked as pre-treatment estimate and they can't seem to resolve it. I wanted to give zero stars, but that wasn't available. No federal employee should use GEHA!!! I went to an out of network provider for a root canal rather than risking low quality, particularly given their pathetic reimbursement rates. It's for good reason that providers don't worth with GEHA. Submitting the claim was a nightmare. Keep in mind I paid up-front. Three times I mailed the claim and it never showed-up in their system. Finally, I reached customer service, which mailed me a link to file it online. It's baffling that this option is not provided to customers. I completed the online submission and discovered that they pay providers nearly nothing, so my reimbursement was 50% of nearly nothing. It added insult to injury. It got worse. I sent them the receipts showing that I fully paid for the services, yet they sent the money to the provider, which sent it back saying that I had already paid. A few weeks later I'm still waiting for a check. We're approaching almost four months since the service was performed. Let's close down GEHA!!!! Most dental plans we have had will not cover implants for bridges. They send an estimate out of what they would pay which is an estimate only. Then after your implant work come back with denied implants. They say partials would work fine, and is in the insurance booklet they can use the most inexpensive method that works. The is very costly for us. This is a bait and switch tactic that dental insurance companies use. And if you look at the premium's you would know why they would go broke. Plus always look at the discount price and patient responsibility as these don't always match the dentist charges . read more

Horrible Insurance ran by incompetent idiot representatives! My Amazing dentist just informed me that they no longer accept GEHA insurance due to their complete stupidity. Every single visit to my dentist ended up becoming a battle on the phone with GEHA because they would deny my coverage because according to GEHA they "weren't responsible" for my coverage because I had Kaiser Permanente as my health insurance provider and the dental coverage should fall on Kaiser and not GEHA. The battle was explaining to these GEHA idiots that Kaiser DOES NOT COVER DENTAL! They are a Medical Hospital and Medical Office provider NOT DENTAL! GEHA would then say "oh we did not know that. We'll waive the denial for coverage and fix the claim". Just to be sent a bill stating that I still owe a balance of hundreds of dollars due to them not being responsible for my coverage because I have Kaiser as my health insurance provider and the dental coverage should fall on Kaiser and not GEHA. Had Invisalign done due to bite alignment causing issues such as jaw clenching which actually led to a crowning needing replaced. They are refusing to pay. In process of fighting it still. Run! They tell you they cover certain items on a $5,000 bill they would cover if allowed but of course it never is $200. When I signed up with Geha they told me I had coverage for braces. Long story short I don't. Well I do but I don't? They told me everything looked great but the doctor needed to send in better photos. They even told me they were going to cover around $2,800 of the $6,500. Then I get denied based on malocclusion. They never had any intention of covering my braces. They lied from day one. They told me I had coverage and they did not tell me about any stipulations. In the last 4 to 5 months I've had around $10,000 in dental bills they have covered under $200. Do not believe their descriptions of coverage they're Liars! 50% of their pathetic allowed amount from what the 1920s? If I could give GEHA dental -100 stars I would. This is a sham company that likes to take money for premiums for government employees and retirees yet does not want to cover any services except for cleanings. I pay for high option insurance. I have a long history of gum issues and have spent a lot for care and surgeries for this. I still have all my teeth and would like to keep them. My regular dentist recommended additional gum surgery to keep my lower teeth. I called GEHA in January and went to the gum specialist in their network in early February. I still have not received approval. My dentist tells me they have sent the referral, chart notes and xrays FOUR times. Each time I call GEHA they tell me they have not received the information, or they are still reviewing. Are they waiting for me to lose my teeth before they approve this? They now say it is in review. Once open enrollment comes around I will switch to another company but in the meantime it would be nice if I had the procedure while I still have my teeth. Save yourself time and aggravation and do not select GEHA dental for your needs as they either deny everything or make you wait for many months. read more

Absolutely the worst insurance you could buy!!! I've had four claims of which they managed to lose three. The last one I filed was in Oct 2023. To date, they can't seem to locate it or pay on it. Every time I ask for an update, they can only give canned responses with no details. I've asked for management to call me every time but none of them ever did! I had to have two crowns for a cracked tooth and a brooken tooth. They paid for my first visit where both teeth were preped, but only paid for one tooth on the final visit when the final crowns were to be attached. Contacted GEHA customer service and was told needed a dental code. The dintist office said they don't use those codes (ASPEN DENTAL). I was told to by GEHA to write an appeal. Its been seven months and I still haven't heard from them. Also, they don't vet their network dintist! Their network dintist didn't accept the amount they paid and charged me, in addition to the initial quote of $954, I was charged an additional $1195. Would not recommend they!!! Stay away if you can. Sorry for the long post. I started the process of getting a lower implant supported denture in November of 2021. My dentist made the denture which I picked up on Nov 5 on Nov 8, I went to my oral surgeon to have my teeth removed and implant posts put it. I had to pay 4200 up front for my oral surgeon because it was done under anethesia due to my panic attacks and GEHA won't pay for that . GEHA got the claim from my oral surgeon first so they decided to give an alternate benefit for my implants and change it to a denture. Out of a $12,000 bill GEHA paid 1,482. When my dentist sent the claim for my denture of 2000 GEHA denied it because they said they had already paid for a denture. HMMMMM my oral surgeon had nothing to do with a denture but they paid them for it. The oral surgeon put in implants and they didn't pay for that and my dentist who did the denture, didn't get paid anything. Now the kicker, after the oral surgeon sent in a new claim to get paid for implants and not a denture( because well it's insurance fraud if they take money for something they didn't do) , GEHA screwed up and made a "clerical error" and sent an explanation of benefits to the surgeon saying that I owed them an additional 1760. I was told yesterday by GEHA the claim should have been denied saying it was duplicate but instead myself and the oral surgeon get told I owe them money. So I paid the surgeon the $1760 GEHA said I need to contact the oral surgeon and get the money back from them and they still won't pay the dentist and upheld the decision they had made on my appeal. I have implant and denture benefits so maybe they should use them both Oral Surgeon Bill 11962 I paid 4267 on date of service 1388 on Feb 22 I had a 371 credit at their office = 5655 Geha paid ...... 1482 Dentist 1962 I paid 1497 GEHA 00000000 Almost 14000 total and they paid 1497.....what should have been the case? I should have paid a surgeon 3895 and a dentist and 748...4643 total What should they have paid at least 1200 more than they did. Moral of the story.....appeal the appeal get a third party involved and tell everybody you know to avoid GEHA. I have cried on the phone and lost my temper but have apologized to every rep because it's not their fault and they don't understand what's going on either. read more

This is the worst dental insurance I have ever had. I opted in for the high option and they have made every excuse to not pay any portion of my dental bills. They said an implant would be covered, except the fine print says the lowest dental option available, so a flipper or something else. Basically the implant would NEVER be covered because a lower cost option was available. I appealed and they still denied. Be prepared to pay out of pocket if you use this insurance. We were stuck with over 10k in bills after we already paid our portion of 12k. Ridiculous. I would give this a 0 star rating if I could. They are a HORRIBLE company. read more

GEHA Dental denying legitimate claim for a root canal because of uncertain prognosis. Totally ridiculous. Does GEHA need a prognosis for all dental procedures before they reimburse anything? Do they also need a prognosis for a heart transplant surgery and will they deny all claims because of uncertain prognosis? This basically means they will deny all claims since everything in life is uncertain, and certainly all medical and dental procedures are uncertain. This review is for GEHA Connection Dental Federal Insurance. I have paid for high option coverage for years. Honestly, this insurance is not only worthless, but it has NEGATIVE value, as the amounts that they cover do not in any way equate to what I have paid in. I submitted a claim for an implant (which my provider submitted "medical necessity" paperwork for) and the amount covered was a joke. The brochure claims that implants are covered at 50%. Do not believe it. They will deny, deny, deny, deny. The Attorneys General for each and every state should shut down this shamful AND shameful company. I received 4 letters in 2 days, with contradictory information. I would love to know if anyone in this unethical company actually enjoys their work, or knows what they are doing. read more
