    Strawberry basil over charcoal vanilla
    Jiansen W.

Gelato 101 is serving Cooked-Milk, Slow-Churned Gelato in a variety of flavors. AMBIANCE: [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small shop with outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] SERVICE: Staff provide samples! GELATO I particularly like their use of sugar free options (sweetened with stevia) although it wasn't in a flavor I'd order. 5/5 Black vanilla - creamy vanilla with activated charcoal 4.5/5 Chef's special strawberry basil - sweet white sugar, strawberry from specialty produce, light on the basil

I appreciate the wide variety of flavors, and the three I tried were rich and deep. Everyone knows that the decorative top presentation method is not authentic if this shop was in Italy (I live there half time). Service was fast and friendly.

A nice gelato shop in Solana Beach on the 101. It gets pretty busy on weekends, but the line moves quickly. Flavors are pretty good. Really enjoyed the stracciatella and the charcoal vanilla. The chai latte is pretty tasty as well. I think other gelato spots in San Diego county do gelato a bit better, specifically Gelato Vero in Mission Hills--the gelato is simply creamier and less ice-cream-textured. But Gelato 101 isn't bad by any means, and is certainly refreshing and tasty. It's worth trying if you're in the mood and in the area. Plenty of flavor options and lots of espresso drinks available too. Update: Came by today once more to try the chai latte with coconut milk this time. Also tried biscoff & coffee gelato. Both were pretty good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Still what I'd consider a 4/5 chai latte and gelato, but the atmosphere here is really so good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were people of all ages and families coming in and out and hanging around. It's still a very vibey nice spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Delish gelato! I love supporting Gelato 101 whenever I can. Be sure to visit this location and show them some love while the Encinitas location is still under construction . The staff are super patient and will let you try all the samples you want. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's casual outdoor seating to chill, or you can take a short stroll to the beach and relax![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Pineapple gelato

Stumbled upon this cute little dessert shop after a mini beach day! Staff was so nice and patient as I asked to sample a couple of the gelato flavors. The employee helping me also was very generous which I greatly appreciated. I got the pineapple gelato which was so delicious! The pineapple flavor was super refreshing and smooth- a perfect pick me up for a warm day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of seating outside as there are a couple tables set up along with benches along the walkway.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went in the middle of the day on a random weekday so parking wasn't too bad either. I'll be back for more gelato soon!

Opera & Peach | Pear & Peach - Double Scoops cost $6 ish!

Ah, this spot was super good. I really enjoyed their fruit flavored gelato/sorbet. The peach was by far the best! My cousin ordered the pear as well which was light, not too sweet, and refreshing. For my cup, I also ordered the Opera. I am not too sure about what flavor it was, but it did taste a little nutty -- in the best way. Not too salty, smooth, and creamy. I didn't try any of the espresso or chocolate flavors but they did have a nice selection of that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They don't have indoor seating so we sat outside on the bench.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Large size gelato hazelnut and opera
    Vivi V.

I stopped by here on a Thursday evening, sampled some flavors and enjoyed the opera and hazelnut flavors. The large size was great for sharing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a rainy day so we couldn't sit outside and eat. The store space was small and had no space to eat inside other than standing around the ice cream case.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was a small adjacent parking lot and some street parking spaces. Service was quick and friendly.

A little sweet for my taste, but the texture was perfectly airy, rich, and smooth. Would've hit so hard as as an affogato if you are a coffee fan, but I had probably had two days worth of caffeine before coming.

Family was in town and their annual trip is to go to gelato 101! Unfortunately, Encinitas is still closed, but thankfully Solana beach is Opened! My first time here but they always say how great it is and they are right! Lots of options to choose from and they sell coffee! I got opera and amaretto and both were creamy and delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had some bench tables outside to enjoy, but parking is slim.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The people were nice and friendly, overall a great place!

We stopped in here for a quick affogato dessert with black vanilla gelato. So delicious! It was late so we got a decaf espresso with the affogato.

This is the best gelato in the USA. It's like the gelato we have had in Italy. I can't wait for the Encinitas site to reopen.

One of us also got birthday cake with blackberries, which was a unique spin and the other got the raspberry marzipan princess cake. The marshmallow alone was so amazing to watch! It was so good and made with such good ingredients. I did share a bit with my friend, but boy I had basically the whole thing to myself and it was perfect. The frozen hot chocolate was bittersweet too. Service was pretty quick, which I appreciated. They also offer gluten-free cookies and other baked goods, which is a nice bonus. That said, the gluten-free cookie on its own was pretty bland--but I could see it being much better paired with ice cream. One thing to note: they don't really offer a kids size, and when I asked for smaller portions, they said it would still be charged as a regular--so parents of little ones, just a heads up! The ambiance wasn't super inviting--more of a "grab your treat and go" vibe--but with its prime location near the beach, it's easy to see why it stays busy. Overall, still worth checking out!

We ordered two flavors, which was four scoops, hoping we could split the ice cream into two cups so we would each have two scoops. We asked our server if they could split the ice cream for us--just put two Ube Matcha scoops in one cup, two Cookies and Cream scoops in another. This is against company policy, but they were willing to give us a second cup so we can surgically operate on the mixed ice cream and split it ourselves (??). The Matcha Ube was more green tea flavored than matcha or ube. The Cookies and Cream was good. The ice cream--even if three scoops for one flavor--is just not worth the street parking or flavor mashing. There are other better ice cream places. Service: 3/5 Nothing to say or add. No bad news is good news. Atmosphere: 2/5 Holy overstimulation. There were two other families in the ice cream parlor with us, and we were all being serviced at once at the cashier. It's too small of a room to do that. I would recommend this place to kids 12 and under who live down the street and need a quick sweet treat. Final rating: 2/5

Worth Every Penny! Our Guests Are Still Talking About Criscito Pizza!…read more We hired Criscito Pizza to cater our daughter's baby sprinkle. They were hands down one of the highlights of the entire celebration. Our package included all eight signature pizzas and every single one was outstanding. The Honey Basil Garlic was definitely a crowd favorite, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Guests also raved about the Lasagna Pizza (my own favorite!), Sweet Heat, Calabrian, Mushroom Truffle (this was devoured immediately), Margherita, the little kiddies favorites...Pepperoni and NYC Cheese. There was truly something for everyone and not a single pizza disappointed. The crust deserves its own review! It is organic! Several of our guests commented that it tasted like fresh artisan bread...light, airy and perfectly chewy with just the right amount of char. Friends and family who drove down from Los Angeles said the pizza alone was worth the trip to San Diego (and of course, spending time with us! :). Others called the flavors "extraordinary" because they were unlike typical pizza. You can tell Criscito uses high-quality ingredients and takes pride in EVERY pizza they make. The fresh spinach salad with feta, dried cranberries, walnuts, olive oil and balsamic glaze was also delicious and paired perfectly with the pizzas. But what truly made the experience exceptional were Desiree and Matthew. They worked tirelessly throughout the event, constantly baking fresh pizzas, replenishing the buffet, and serving our guests with genuine smiles. I started calling them the "Pizza Fairies" because they seemed to sprinkle a little magic on every pizza they made. They made everything look effortless while providing first-class service. Another thing I appreciated was how self-sufficient they were. They brought their own electricity, potable water, plates, napkins, and utensils, so I never had to worry about a thing. They handled everything professionally from start to finish. Criscito Pizza isn't the cheapest caterer you'll find, but this is one of those times when you truly get what you pay for. The quality of the ingredients, the artisan craftsmanship, the incredible flavors, and the outstanding service made every dollar worthwhile. If you want your guests talking about the food long after your event is over, book Criscito Pizza. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Desiree and Matthew again. They helped make our daughter's baby sprinkle unforgettable and I can't recommend them highly enough!
