The ice cream is on the less sweet side of things, so the chocolate tastes like a dark chocolate. The fruit flavors have a very strong fruit flavor, like a good sorbet, but with the creaminess of ice cream. The strawberry almost tastes like strawberries and cream and the lemon flavor tastes like eating a creamy lemon with just a bit of sweetness to take the edge off. I'm a bit worried for this place's survival -- you can tell they're using a lot of the ingredients that places sometimes skimp on to cut cost, which is why the ice cream is so creamy, why the chocolate has such a strong dark chocolate flavor, and why the fruit flavors have such strong flavor. However, they have mid-range pricing and the branding makes it look like any other ice cream shop. I mean, as opposed to places that have branding that's clearly targeted at high-end ice cream, like La Glace or J Squared. And in terms of texture, richness, and really nailing the flavors, this place blows those other places out of the water, but since the ice cream is on the less sweet side, I don't know how much this place is going to appeal to people who walk in the door because of the branding. Even though this place opened outside of ice cream season, in November (!), I'm excited to try this place again soon.

Well I can tell you that SSG grew on me over time as I tried a variety of flavours. I've enjoyed slurping on - Hazelnut, Pistachio, Espresso, Ruby Chocolate Raspberry & Blueberry Cheesecake to name just a few. Located in popular Steveston Village, it is a must stop at when you come here. SSG also sells delicious cookies & cheesecakes so keep an eye out. The staff are friendly & will let you sample a few flavours before you buy anything. I fell in love with gelato a few years ago after getting fed up with ice-cream. I must have had too many bad batches! After all I was getting older & my belly can only handle so many cups of Häagen-Dazs! Hee-hee! Don't get me wrong, I do love the gourmet type ice-cream spots in Metro Vancouver, & throughout summer I pop into Rain or Shine to get my fix. See my pix & review. The portion sizes were what you expect from every ice cream vendor. Flavour was average and nothing spectacular. My group mostly opted for the small double scoop ($4.50) as it was only $1.50 more versus the regular scoop ($3.00). You pay $1 more for the waffle cone vs plain cone. Prices are tax inclusive. One important caveat is they accept credit cards with a 3% surcharge. Free street parking is plentiful in the village.

I attempted to try eating a small piece of prawn but it turns out it's still a no go I love their scone and sandwiches on their tea set. Their gelato is quite good. We ordered pistachio and ferro rocher but pistachio and black sesame came instead oh well... The service is a bit slow so budget more time coming here. It will be a good place for a long catch-up outing. Parking on the weekend was quite difficult so budget more time to find parking.
