I went there after reading they won't some gelato competition in Italy. But after getting 3 different cups today with my family, I decided to in estimate after coming back home since my experience didn't match what I read. I also have very good experience with good Italian gelato. I spent a lot of time in Italy and currently enjoy one of the best Gelateria I ever been to, namely Pinolo Gelato in Portland Oregon. The ice cream/gelato is not bad. But it's also not excellent. The texture is slightly off, the taste too sugary, the price just ok (it would be really ok if the experience was according to expectations - world class gelati are cheaper). Bottom line I was not blown away. I put it in the mid tier, a 5/10. But what was really off was the experience around it or the lack thereof. The place is overall very clean and taken care off. But the details are what threw me off a lot. A few examples: old tape partially removed all over the front door. Sticky notes taped here and there instead of proper labels, advertisement for DragonballZ and coffee on the caps, all more dominant than the gelateria brand itself. Weird. Extension cord under a fridge visible to the public. Some disorganized ad panels on the floor. Napkins placed in cheap looking old blasting bins from what looks like an heritage from someone's Grandma's grandma. Also a very "cheap looking" opening hours display (really strikes a few points off before even entering). See pictures. I don't think I'll go again. read more

As this week was the Ice Cream Festival week in Vancouver, we were looking forward to try some ice cream. Came upon this cute little shop. Inside is clean and bright. We tried the two scoops in a cup: passion fruit and Yuyu citrus. They were the perfect combination since passion fruit was on the sweet side. With the citrus flavor, it balanced out the sweet and sour flavor. If you don't know which flavor to get, you can ask the employee there to try up to three flavors, which is nice. read more

Found this generous scoop of gelato about a half block off Denman Street, though I wish it had an even stronger matcha flavor. I have been here a handful of times and I must say that this time, I was a bit disappointed. The reason was becausei ordered a 12$ triple berry sundae and did not get my money's worth as there were topics missing such as the brownie and cherry on top! How those two weren't added without an explanation is annoying. As there was a cue and line, I didn't feel that they were going to be cordial with how my Sundae was missing the listed toppings! I will probably be going here less frequently as there are other places that offer better service and you actually get what you paid for! read more

With such hot weather, it's really making me think about icecream, a little while back we got to go to the new grand opening of the new Bella in downtown. And let's just say their gelato is one that never disappoints. * Lychee ~ this is one of my go to summer favourites. Not only is it super refreshing but it's also sweet and has bits of lychee in it. Lychee lovers I highly recommend! 9/10. * Thai coconut ~ another summer fav of mine!! The Thai coconut was super good and flavourful. The coconut punch was prominent and the bits of coconut added a good texture to the mix. 10/10. * Mango sorbet ~ their sorbetto is also amazing! Chef kiss! This review is for Vancouver Hot Chocolate festival 2020. I had one of their three hot chocolate menu, Purple Rain. I love Prince but more than him, I love Ube. "Michel Cluizel white chocolate with homemade purple ube puree. Paired with an amarena cherry gelato popsicle" $10.50 after tax You can ask the timing when you want to have the popsicle. They recommended to dip into the hot chocolate but I said no thanks. I enjoyed popsicle as itself first. It was small but ok because both are sweet. The balance of cherry chunk was perfect for popsicle. If it's too big, it can't be a popsicle. Very delicious gelato of course. About white hot chocolate, honestly I felt the richness and sweetness from chocolate were missing. It tasted like ube puree with foamed milk. You might feel the fiber from ube in your mouth. Actually I like it because it comes from homemade stuff. A little disappointment left but over all, I'm impressed with their idea using ube among so many competitors. read more

This gelateria was recommended by all the travel blogs and for good reason! It's a lovely space close to several attractions, and the flavors are unique compared to other gelato shops. In the way that Marco Polo in SF is Italy meets China, Bella Gelateria is a lovely collaboration between Italian gelato and Middle Eastern / South Asian-inspired flavors. At this time, each person is allowed to taste up to 3 flavors. After trying a few, we ultimately got two cups with kulfi (pistachio, cardamom), earl grey tea (london fog), passion fruit, and yuzu. I haven't had a chance yet to try kulfi from a kulfiwallah, but hopefully it tastes a little like this spiced, sweet gelato! The london fog was a hot summer day's way of enjoying a classic creamy fragrance--definitely one of our favorites. The passion fruit and yuzu complemented each other well and each offered a beautiful balance of fruity sweetness and tartness. None of these choices were overly cloyingly sweet. Definitely earns its spot on the list of recommendations for the Vancouver visitor! read more

It was warm out and we were staying nearby and stopped by for a sweet treat after dinner. It's near Canada Place and a bunch of hotels so we mosey'd on over and checked them out. The line was long but it didn't take too long to get our gelato. There's a small area for inside seating or you can be like the majority and take it outside. It's the other way around, so you go to the cashier first, tell them what you want, pay, they give you a ticket/receipt, you hand it to the next staff person and they will fulfill your gelato order and give samples and all that, then get outta there and find a table or go outside as it can be a cluster at the counter. I got 2 scoops in a cup and got the "White Coffee" and the "Espresso w/ Chocolate Bark". I sampled like 3 other flavors before I chose this so do what you gotta do on that aspect. They give you nice sized scoops all the way to the edge of your cup. It was delicious and tasted just like it's namesake. We also got charcoal chocolate cone with "Organic Matcha Green Tea", that too was pretty good and I'm not even a green tea matcha fan. The texture is great, super smooth, soft and creamy, flavors are quite prominent, we really enjoyed it and drip drip drip all down your hand and some on my shirt. Prices are pretty much what we thought, staff was friendly and helpful, worth it in my book to come by and check them out and get your gelato fix. read more

Very generous portions of gelato. I got their matcha flavor and flavor of the day (chocolate hazelnut), forgot the exact name. The flavor of the day tasted a lot like Ferraro roscher. And their matcha was pretty flavorful but relatively v sweet. Also tried their salted pecan, that tasted amazing! Got their charcoal waffle cone which felt much lighter than a regular waffle cone. Unfortunately they're not doing samples because of Covid. I wish they served kids size scoops instead of the huge adult size portions. They make everything at the store, and also offer other desserts you can purchase. Best gelato I've ever eaten! So many flavors to choose from, and it is hard to make a decision. You know it's authentic gelato because it isn't brightly artificially colored and it is stored in the special metal containers, not mounted high for display. The amarena cherry, dark cherry chocolate, hazelnut, and the matcha were some of our group's favorites. Absolutely amazing gelato place near the Digital Orca! It was on my list of places to go to while in Vancouver but because of the COVID-19 we were scared it would be closed and had given up. The heavens were in our favor though, since we happened to walk past and it was open (with seating still available!) The worker was very thorough with the proper cleaning precautions and asked us to wait a few minutes while he properly cleaned his hands and other equipment after helping the people in front of us. We paid first, and he told us he would let us sample flavors afterwards (which i thought was very smart!) I got a sample of the Rosewater, Saffron, and Pistachio gelato which was super interesting with a hint of floraly taste to a light pistachio flavor (I couldn't really taste the saffron). The mint chip was also one of the best I'd ever tried! My boyfriend wanted to try the 99% Dark Chocolate, but the worker, Alejandro, recommended the Dark Chocolate Sorbetto and let us sample both. Surprisingly, the sorbetto was so much creamier than the gelato! Alejandro also let us sample the Toasted Pecan with Sea Salt and Maple Syrup, which was a signature that apparently won the best gelato competition in Italy (there are posters all around the store if you wanna read more about that!), and this was also really good (bottom line, everything was amazing). We ended p getting the White Rabbit and Dark Chocolate Sorbetto, and both did not disappoint! I wouldn't say that I'm any sort of gelato expert, but I can definitely say that it's easy to tell when gelato is not well made. Bella Gelateria is most certainly not one of those. Their gelato is good, and a cut above many other gelato places in Vancouver. The flavour options are interesting and fun, with plentiful options for those who like to experiment. The gelato itself isn't overly sweet, which is a huge problem at a lot of gelato places, while still satisfying that sweet tooth craving. I love nutty flavours, and the pecan sea salt flavour is to die for honestly. Black sesame is also quite good, but I think black sesame and Asian flavoured ice cream tend to be better from a purely Asian oriented dessert place. The price isn't outrageous, but it's not cheap either. As a first time experience, I'd say it's definitely worth it though. Repeat experiences will depend on your budget. Overall, while it's not my first time here, it's definitely not going to be my last. I would recommend Bella Gelateria to anyone looking for a good ice cream/gelato place in downtown. read more

It's crazy that this place has won so many international gelato competitions! Expect long lines if you come in the summer. I told myself to suck it up and give this gelato a try. I was the only person in Bella Gelateria at 11am sharp, go figure. Everyone else is eating lunch... the lady at the counter was very helpful and let me sample a couple flavors before I picked two: coffee and salted caramel. There were some more adventurous ones that I sampled, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with these. There was plenty of seating, seeing as I was the only customer. The coffee gelato was a little melted already, for some reason, but flavors were on point. The salted caramel was all intact! As some have mentioned, the gelato is a tad on the pricey side. I was not expecting to transported abroad whilst walking by the PAC Rim. But serendipitously BELLA GELATERIA popped it's head out and pulled me in. I spent 3 years studying in Russia. This ice creme is among the best that I have enjoyed since returning to B.C. I was pleasantly shocked to read that this was free from lactose despite the richness crammed into each scoop. The flavours are good and the cones crisp. The details of the restaurant are immaculate as the hand sanitizer pump was smooth as silk. This is the way. Eating was a pleasure. Ok, this is maybe the best gelato I've had, and I have eaten a lot of gelato... every bite was silky and packed with flavor. They also have some interesting flavors, including seasonal flavors. After dinner, we decided to get Bella gelato for dessert. It was 35 degrees outside and slightly raining, but this place has great reviews and who can turn down great gelato? It's a small shop, there are only 2 or 3 tables inside, but the perk of taking it outside to eat is that it melts slower! Lol. They have a menu of flavors including burnt caramel, chocolate cherry, organic matcha, and Meyer lemon. You are allowed 3 samples only, so choose wisely! This would be a 5 Star place for me if not for the strict 3 sample policy or the fact that you have to pay before getting your samples/order. It's just kind of awkward...it's also hella expensive. $8 for a little cup of ice cream?! And why would they charge more for 2 flavors? It's the same amount of gelato...Crazy.
