I am in LOVE with the Honey Lavender Ice Cream from Rain or Shine Ice Cream! My very first scoop was 2 years ago when I took the SeaBus over to English Bay and discovered their ice cream truck. I asked for a taste of the Honey Lavender, and after one bite I blurted out, "OMG... WOW... FINALLY!!" It was everything I had been searching for--real lavender buds blended into rich, creamy ice cream with the perfect touch of sweet honey. I immediately ordered two large scoops! Today, I visited the Cambie Street location with a group of my new friends and bought three pints of my favourite flavour. At just $11 per pint, it's an amazing value compared to other premium brands I buy, like Dolce Amore, which is around $16.95 per pint. The Honey Lavender is absolutely heavenly. The creamy texture is so smooth, the floral lavender is authentic without being overpowering, and the honey adds the perfect sweetness that lingers with every bite. I sat by the window, opened my pint... and before I knew it, I had finished the entire pint by myself! My friends couldn't stop laughing because I was completely lost in my own little Lavender Haze. I honestly have no idea what flavours they ordered--I was too busy enjoying every single spoonful of mine! If you're a lavender lover, this is an absolute must-try. My favourite ice cream spot in all of BC. Albeit, the only two flavours that I get are the chocolate malt honeycomb and blueberry balsamic ever since they've opened their business. This is because each time I taste test their other flavours, it just cannot beat either of these flavours. Milk Chocolate Malt Honeycomb - first of all, I love that it isn't overly sweet, as you would think due to milk chocolate and honeycomb, but it's more so malt based ice cream with pieces of chocolate flakes and honeycomb. So, if you like malt flavours, this is one for you too. Blueberry Balsamic - it might be weird hearing balsamic on your ice cream, but trust me, it works. It is hard to explain but the blueberry pairs so well with balsamic. It is fruity, tardy and not sweet at all. read more

I got the roasted strawberry and blueberry lemon curd ice cream. Although it was tasty the strawberry basically tasted like regular strawberry ice cream. I really enjoyed the blueberry lemon curd ice cream. The lemon curd almost made it feel like it was custardy or cheesecakey I also sampled the black current lemon lime sorbet. Outstanding flavors! The 4 scoop sampler was nice to try and share. Here are our flavor experiences. London Fog (5): Wonderful tea flavor! Light. Black currant lemon lime sorbet (3): Some liked it, some did not. The black currant and lemon is very tart and strong... which I like. Others felt it was too strong. Cracked Mint (5): Yes! I love mint so this was a no brainer for me. Pair that with dark chocolate shavings. Delicious! Roasted Strawberry (5): Another winner. The service is always fast, they always allow for taste testing, never fail to amaze you with new flavours and no matter how long the line is, you are never waiting for longer than 15mins. This time I got tried their blackberry goat cheese flavour and their passion fruit ale flavour. Both are seasonal and both are amazing! I initially wanted to try both these flavours just because they sounded fun, didn't think I would end up getting it!! But they were both so delicious!! Egg hunt 10/10- Cadbury eggs mixed in milk chocolate icecream, this was absolutely delicious and a limited edition seasonal flavor. There were lots of Cadbury eggs mixed into the icecream. The milk chocolate icecream base sweetness wasn't too intense which was nice. The waffle cone itself was pretty mid (wasn't fresh or hot, however we did get this late) but the icecream itself was phenomenal Chocolate malted honeycomb 9.47/10- this icecream was really good, not a huge fan of malted chocolate favor but they did this really well. The honeycomb pieces were covered in dark chocolate and huge, it added a lot of flavor. I felt like the pieces of honeycomb were a bit too big because sometimes you'd try having it with the icecream but it was too much. Also felt like this icecream was a bit too sweet. Good ice cream. They have really interesting monthly flavours and the regular flavours are also iconic. They have a vegan chocolate peanut on regularly, and 1 or 2 of the monthly specials are usually vegan. Compared to competitors, their ice cream isn't as creamy, particularly the vegan flavours, but it's still pretty good ice cream. Even though I prefer the texture of other ice cream like Earnest or Elephant Garden, I sometimes like Rain or Shine's flavour options better, and so I go to all of them regularly. The thing that I think Rain or Shine does better than anyone is actually the waffle cone, which is thick, almost like a cookie, and always fresh. It's a very substantial cone so my favourite way to enjoy the cone is actually in taco form on Taco Tuesday, where you can get a "taco" sundae with 2 scoops and a topping on a waffle cone taco shell which seems a little smaller than the waffle used for the regular cone. Another notable advantage of going to Rain or Shine over Earnest is that the lineup is never as long! I have all but abandoned eating dairy ice cream since there's very little reason to in my mind when there are so many good vegan options, so I was extra excited to see they have a vegan version of their matcha on this month, and not just plain but with strawberry for extra fun! By far the best ice cream place in Vancouver. The flavours are more unique than another popular joint, Earnest. The service is always friendly and fast. You get to sample a few too. The original flavours are better than their seasonal, I feel like they're different but not inspiring enough for me to get a full scoop over the others. It all should have been thrown out but bc no one tested it or knows what bad ice cream is they're selling it. We've come here quite a few times now, have no idea why I haven't posted a review for them yet! Our go-to flavours are the malted milk chocolate honeycomb, the honey lavender, and the cherry pie (from their seasonal menu). The chocolate honeycomb is basically malteser-y goodness with bits of honeycomb, and the honey lavender is light, floral and makes a refreshing dessert after a heavy meal. I'm hoping they decide to keep cherry pie as a permanent flavour since the last two times we visited, they've sold out of the pints! It has very generous pieces of delicious shortbread "crust" in it, and the subtly-tart cherry offsets the sweetness. It's just really great. I'd always felt there was missing when having the pints at home and realized that it's the cone! So I highly recommend getting your scoop in a waffle cone, it just completely elevates the experience. read more

They also have a mission of sourcing the fresh, natural, sustainable, local, seasonal and organic whole ingredients whenever possible. How great is that?! I've tried 4 of their flavours ranking as follows until I expand my collection. :) 1. Honey lavender - vibrant aroma of lavender paired with the just right honey sweetness. Sooo good! 2. Chocolate - very chocolatey and not too sweet 3. Strawberry Earl grey - strawberry and Earl grey flavours were too subtle. Maybe the aroma of lavender (another flavour) overpowered it. Perhaps having this flavour alone is more appropriate. 4. London fog - too sweet by sampling The waffle cone was fresh and tasty with a solid build. It does not become soft easily, which is a nice companion of the ice cream. They offer cup, waffle cone, gluten free cone, single one flavour, single two flavours (half scoop each), kids size, flights (4 flavours), and a pint to take home. The lineup tends to be busier after dinner. 10 to 15 minutes of wait is normal. Other time of the day varies. Sometimes no wait at all! When you are getting the pint to take home, you don't have to queue at the regular ice cream lineup. The left side of the counter is designated for the pint to go. read more

Rain or Shine might just beat on Earnest Ice Cream for me and that's a shocking statement for me because I tend to bring tourists to Earnest all the time but I think this might change. I've hit up Rain or Shine in Kits (great location to grab a scoop and walk around Kits or the beach) and Cambie and 17th. I ALWAYS get the Malted Milk Chocolate Honeycomb. So satisfying when you have a hankering for chocolate. Do it! Most recently I went to redeem my free pint of ice cream that I got for donating blood. Okay, first of all.. how selfless are the owners of this company to give away HUNDREDS of pints of free ice cream for those who donate blood? How can I not support a local organization that would do such a thing.. but in addition, the staff are always super friendly and the ice cream is delicious. I opted for the **honey lavender** tub that evening and it has a strong lavender flavour with little pieces of lavender. It's refreshing, creamy and light. I went here again on Dec 18th for an icecream fix. RSI is perfect every time especially this Cambie location, and I never had any bad experience at all. I sampled some flavours and got Blueberry Balsamic and London Fog; personally I like London Fog better at Earnest for strong richer flavour. I liked it overall. I paid 2 flavours on single for $5 so nothing to complain about. I hope they add fun interesting flavours one day. RSI still deserves 5 stars from me. read more

Ice cream places are popping up all over Vancouver. This trend doesn't show any signs of slowing down, so might as well enjoy the ride. Parking is available on the side streets. There are a free spots if one steps away from Cambie. Spend that spare change on another scoop instead. Like most of the competition, this place has a hipster feel to it. The interior is pretty bare, but that leaves more room for the lineup, which snakes out the door. Cool looking purple cow in the ceiling. Ice cream is within the typical range of $4-6. Obviously one should go for the double, as it is $1 more than the single. I tried the blueberry balsamic and the salted caramel. Tasty. What can I say. My only complaint is that they close early at 2200, but so do most other places around here. Definitely worth a try. read more
