Scheduling here is a nightmare. She runs great sales to incentivize you to pay for multiple treatments in advance, but then you're left hoping she'll actually honor your appointment times and not cancel on you multiple times an hour or two before your appointment. She's also not open on weekends or after about 4:00, so it's hard to make it work if you, you know, have a job. I've never seen a business operate so inefficiently. She clearly has a ton of clients and needs hire someone to manage appointments so she's not doing both the laser and the bookings. She should also hire a second person to do laser so that if she has something come up, she doesn't have to cancel 50 people that day and rebook them another day, making it so everyone that day will be double booked and you'll be left waiting at your appointment time. Refunds should also be offered when she's at fault for canceling multiple times. Otherwise, you'll end up with a bunch of treatments you've paid for that you can't actually use because the scheduling is always crazy and half the time she doesn't respond when trying to schedule (she never answers the phone and only does scheduling over text). I gave it two stars because when you actually can get in, the laser works pretty well, but it's hard to keep the needed timeline consistent because she's always canceling, so the hair has time to grow back. Candi texted me and wanted to cancel me 2 hours prior to my appointment due to her doctor appointment as she said ( You should know that sched ahead of time lady!!!) I was all set and ready to go. Then she move me on later time. Fine! better than cancelled. I showed up and then she ask me if i am being exposed to the sun. I bought a groupon for IPL. I thought it was bizarre they do not use a barrier gel but she explained they didn't need it. So the first of my 3 series was awesome loved the results! Then went back for my 2nd IPL treatment and they burnt the heck out of my face, I called and asked what I should do she had me come in so she could see it. The owner suggested I buy some of the serum that was close to $100 and told me to keep aloe Vera on it. That's it!!!!! The owner said that she would do the remaining IPL and assured me it would be fine, that the last time the settings were too high! The 3rd treatment she burnt me as well, leaving uneven burnt marks all over my face! I asked for my money back, the owner said she can't give me my money back but she could offer me 3 free treatments. But by this time my face pigmentations were worse than when I started so the 3 treatments she gave me did nothing. All in all it was awful, she never gave me my money back, nor did she offer to treat my face till we at least got it back to before I started! I have pictures of before and after!!! My secret is Gem Spa in Sandy and getting IPL photo facials - which get rid of age spots, stimulates collagen and evens out skin tone! I signed up just to post this review! I believe this business deserves an amazing review!! I absolutely love the results I got from going here. I purchased a Groupon for my entire bikini area. I was happy with the price but skeptical about if it would work or not since I had my underarms done elsewhere and results were just...okay. My knowledge of lasers was minimal and I learned this was a different type of laser than was used on my underarms by an entirely different business. Although my body is generally hairless, my bikini area was dark brown, medium thickness hairs. I am a newlywed and wanted to treat myself so I would not have to deal with the bumps and razor burn that happened every time I shaved. After six treatments I BARELY have to shave at all in my bikini area. I only do a quick touch up every time I shower!! It's so nice!!! Typically about ten sessions is recommended to be completely hairless, but I am still very happy with my results at six. I have had Candy (the owner) do a few sessions and she was nice and professional. The first session was super quick and rushed but please be understanding that you NEED to show up on time. A few minutes early if possible because these sessions are not meant to last long. It can be easy for this type of business to run behind if a client or two show up late. I can see their perspective on why my first session was rushed. My second to sixth treatments were done mostly by Terah and she was so sweet and professional. I had some anxiety about potential embarrassment (showing a private area, and I am a very private person) but she made me feel totally at ease and comfortable and I had no embarrassment at any point. Believe me, there are some ridiculous positions you get in for the sake of hair removal but I looked forward to each appointment because I did see results each time. Pain level was different each time (based on me) but it was never higher than a 6 out of 10. Some areas were very ticklish which I did not expect.I did get some red raised bumps after one session. I believe that was because my skin was sensitive from my acne medication I was taking. Things to keep in mind: - the lasers pick up follicles based on darker pigmentation. If you have extremely light blonde or red hairs or black skin I would highly recommend a consultation beforehand to see how laser hair removal will work for you - the recommended number of sessions before seeing results IS a minimum six sessions. - These women are trained professionals, they are experienced and have SEEN IT ALL. If you are self-conscious or embarrassed about your hair you have no reason to be. They will make you feel completely at ease. - Remember to shave and bathe before your appointment - When scheduling your appointments, keep in mind your (period) cycle if you are getting bikini area done. Spare everyone that! haha - Do not underestimate that time of the month!! Your skin is more sensitive in the days leading up to your period and the days immediately afterwards so you may experience more pain if you get lasered on those days. LOVE YOU GEM SPA! read more

Bought a groupon, figuring how hard can laser hair removal be. I had my first appointment and it was ok, but it took several weeks before they would answer the phone or return messages to even get started. They booked me out like 6 weeks after I finally got a hold of them. The place is a little dodgey. A run down office that's never open. (I tried to stop by several times since no one was returning my phone calls.) Ideally you're supposed to get this done once every 6 weeks or so. Every time I call to try to make an appointment (because they keep cancelling the ones already made) it has take at least three weeks for someone to get back to me and that's only after making me feel like a stalker. I've only been able to get two treatments so far and I've the groupon since March. Just got off the phone with them again....they're cancelling my appointment. Both times I have been able to go in for treatment it's been horribly unprofessional. Opening the procedure room door while my shirt is off (having armpits done), not hardly waiting until my shirt is off before zapping me. I can't say if the treatments are working or not yet because I've only been able to have it done two times. Unrelated to how bad the business is, the laser itself doesn't hurt at all. I was hoping to have some improvement by summer but summer is half over and it looks like it'll be Christmas before I'm able to finish up and hopefully see some hair removal. UPDATE: After writing this review I was given an after hours appointment. I thought perhaps this was to help compensate me for all the scheduling mishaps. I was very quickly proven wrong. The place was empty except me and one lady, the owner I think. She told me I was a liar and was very threatening. Telling me that every negative thing I write will be removed and she's already told google I'm a liar. I told her that everything in the review was accurate and asked what she felt was a lie. She just repeated over and over that I was a liar. At which point, feeling very attacked, I said, "I stand by everything I said. It was all accurate and I think it's a little unprofessional to threaten and retaliate against your customers for writing a review you don't like." To which, her response was, "YOU'RE UNPROFESSIONAL!" What? That doesn't even make sense. "Ma'am, I'm the customer, it's not my job to be professional, and everything I said in my review was accurate." At which point she refused to reschedule me just staring me down--despite having already paid for a full laser hair removal package through groupon (I bought 6 treatments, this was my third). When I finally decided to leave after being stared down with the only words she'd speak to me was "liar. you're a liar" I decided to leave as this clearly wasn't going anywhere and she clearly wasn't going to honor the remaining treatments I bought. I started to leave only to have to call out after me by saying "we're just not a good fit" confirming that she had no intention of honoring what I've already paid for. Hopefully groupon will back up the purchase. They're usually pretty good at that. I still stand by my original review as this time she wiped the goggles with a dirty cloth and tossed them at me. The room still had crinkled paper on the table from the last client and clearly had not been cleaned or wiped down in between users (a problem in hot Utah where everyone comes in sweaty). However, the hand-written notes taped to the windows were gone. It might be a "new" facility as she claims but it's still not up to my standards. And clearly more unprofessional than I had ever imagined. And this a review, with my opinion, which should be allowed to be posted and people can decide for themselves. read more

I purchased a Groupon sometime ago for hair removal. When I called to set up my initial appointment I had to leave a message. They were very prompt to call me back but the person that called had to leave me a message and when he did he didn't leave his name, he didn't mention that he was calling from Gem Spa, didn't leave a call back number and didn't really leave much information at all. I just assumed it was them since I had just called out to their office. The first time I visited the office for my appointment the staff was fairly friendly. I think the woman that helped me was the owner or possibly the manager but I felt a sense of judgement towards me, I have an alternative look (piercings, colored hair, tattoos etc) and I could definitely feel a separation of me and them. The Groupon was for 6 sessions. I had to reschedule my fifth session and after doing so I was never able to get in touch with any one. I called multiple times and never heard back from anyone. I never returned for the last two sessions. Overall I felt uncomfortable and unimportant. Possibly because I was Groupon customer I wasn't much of a high priority. If I choose to seek these services again I would absolutely do more research and choose a different spa. read more
