I needed a replacement engagement ring and went back to Shane Co. (where my original engagement ring was from) to see if we could get the same one. Shane Co. were the ones that initially told me that sapphires in the purple hue (vivid purple) that I wanted were pretty much impossible to find - if they even actually existed. They said that "purple sapphires this small (ok....) look grey when they're that purple". Didn't really have the best experience with them. I'm so glad I found GemsNY from a simple Google search. My initial engagement ring was a .53 carat purple sapphire but truly looking at my ring now it was more lavender than anything. The pictures truly do not do it justice AT ALL because my ring looks like a purple galaxy. This purple sapphire was the one I had always wanted. I called GemsNY before I bought the ring just to talk to someone about their purple sapphire recommendations. I wanted a picture just to see it and compare with the pictures of my first ring. Vishal was very firm in that he kept mentioning a picture will never do it justice and that there's a return policy if I got it and didn't like it. He is a very straight to the point person. He did offer to take the gem out and compare it to the online pictures to check if he saw any differences in color - as that was my main concern. He called me back, let me know "it looked pretty purple" (lol) and to call him back if I had any more questions. That's the call that made me decide to purchase the ring. He said he'd call back and he did. I'd be going from a .53 to a .74 in what (I hoped) was just the right purple sapphire hue. Looking around at websites sapphires this size go for far more than what I paid for it. Not only do I absolutely love my ring but I just feel like I'm in on some secret getting it for such a price. Vishal also accommodated me because I had this ring shipped to my office (as I have gotten packages stolen from my home address), however my office was going to be closed on the days they were going to deliver, so he went ahead and held it for me at a location because it wasn't something I could do as the receiver (only the sender). The first time I saw my ring I audibly gasped, said "this isn't real", and promptly removed the tag that made it non-returnable. I couldn't stop saying "I love it, I love it!! How is this real??? This is what I always wanted!!!!" and looking at it now makes me smile. I wish they had purple sapphire wedding bands so I could get one from here but I already have an amethyst wedding band, if you're familiar with amethyst's they are "pretty purple" and it's for me the epitome of the purple I love, this ring is even more purple than an amethyst. Purchased an emerald in 2022 from GemsNY in 2022 and had a platinum setting made. After only 2 months of wear the baguette diamond fell out of one side. And of course was not covered under their warranty as they say they only cover the setting. Spent several hundred dollars sending it back, and had to pay to replace the diamond as I did not want to make an insurance claim so soon. It is now April and the other diamond is loose and about to fall out of setting. Luckily she noticed before it fell out. Do not waste your money with this company. I'm glad the owner decided to reply. It means I've definitely struck a chord. Here is the response from the owner, in case it is changed: "After having the gem set in a ring (thereby voiding our return policy), he had the ring appraised by a DIAMOND specialist. Despite the ring appraisal being for far more than what was paid for the sapphire, the customer contends the sapphire purchased is valued at less than what was paid, without any substantiation. We asked for the allocation of value to the sapphire per the jewelry appraisal but nothing has been supplied and the customer will not respond to attempts to reach him by management." I've attached an email sent to GemsNY on 5/31/2018 2:57pm. It has the attached appraisal, as can be seen. It also shows the MUCH lower value than the $8,100 appraised for AND the amount I paid. Also same accreditation as their gemologist; plenty of substantiation. Like I said, these stones are almost worthless unless seen from the top. (Management left me once voice mail - just more misrepresentation) Seems to be A LOT of misrepresentation. I am happy to discuss this issue further. I obviously don't want to pay for the stone to be removed and taken from my significant other. All I wanted was reconciliation between the price I paid and the VERY low appraisal and then I will be happy and can come back here and genuinely say that they stood by their product. I really wanted a yellow stone for my engagement ring and felt that yellow diamonds were too pricey. Yellow sapphires were a really great and equally beautiful alternative, however, it was tough to find any jewelry store that carried one let alone a full selection to choose from. Most only carried yellow diamonds or really dark (almost orange) yellow sapphire rings. After browsing for loose stones online, we made an appointment with Vishal to see them in person. Vishal was so helpful and accommodating. He was extremely patient, answering all of our question without being pushy or sleazy sounding like many of the Diamond district or Chinatown jewelers. They are apparently jewelry wholesalers who sell mainly to other jewelry stores. He seemed honest and frank when describing differences over one stone from another. We took over an hour with him as there were so many choices, but not an ounce of impatience came through. In regards to the color quality of yellow sapphires, I do feel there is a big difference in the picture from the website and what the stone actually looks like and I'm very glad we got to see the stones in person (maybe it's easier to capture other colors online?). Their natural stones are much softer in real life, and their treated stones are much more vibrant and bright. I ended up going with a soft yellow natural sapphire and chose a setting through them as well. They have a 30 day return policy, but had no need for that as I am so happy with how the ring turned out. Wow. Complete scam. I bought a sapphire from them that was supposed to be heirloom quality, top of the line, eye clean, transparent, color change, and violet purple. The stone that came was poorly cut, so poorly cut that it only had one refraction point inside. The stone itself was milky. You wouldn't have known except we have access to actual high quality sapphires and when you put them side by side, wow, such an incredibly dull and milky stone. Also, we couldn't, under any light, get the stone to turn the color of the stone on the website. It never got that radiant purple. Do not trust their images. They are clearly altered. Also, eye clean, hardly. Maybe if you have terrible vision. I could easily see inclusions in the stone from 15 inches away. Also, they gave it to us at a "great price," but after seeing the stone we got, it was market value, at best. They didn't cut us any genuine deal. Very frustrated with this company. If you don't really care about the quality of the gem you're buying, buy here. Otherwise, do not trust their rating system. Do not believe that just because it has a certification, it's a nice stone. They got the lowest tier certification for this stone through GIA, I'm guessing to hide the major flaws so they could market it as a heirloom quality stone. This company is dishonest and I will never buy from them again unless they seriously change their practices and start genuinely reporting and pricing them gems. read more

I ordered a 'custom' ruby ring from GemsNY as a present for my girlfriend. The quality of the ring turned out to be disappointing. The setting showed excessive uneven thinning. GemsNY web-page specification did not mention thinning; the setting was depicted without any. GemsNY did not accept the return, as it was my second order (good luck to find this policy on their web-page). I had returned the first ring, because the ruby was milky, with unequal color, not at all like the one shown on the order pictures. Trusting excellent reputation of the company, and the reviews I tried again. This time GemsNY would only return the money for the setting provided that I would have the ring dismantled, and send the setting back. Their representative, Vishal extended no apology for the quality, and refused to repair the ring. I had the ring fixed at the local reputable jeweler (half-shanking) to wipe the tears off my girlfriend's face. Then a bombshell was dropped on me when I opened the appraisal I also ordered. The ring, for which I paid over $2,500 was valued at $305 ($6,900 'resale value' in GemsNY appraisal). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. How about the value? Vishal at GemsNY refused to cover the cost of the repair, denied any responsibility for the poor craftsmanship, and offered me $100 'courtesy' money. Far less than I paid for the repair. Buyers beware, it can happen to you... Upodate: GemsNY as represented by Vishal eventually took responsibility, and reimbursed me for fixing the ring. At this point I'm satisfied, and therefore raised their score to 3 stars. The issue of ring valuation has been also straightened up. Unknowingly to me there are several types of jewelery appraisals. The one I have received from GemsNY is for insurance purpose (called misleadingly the 'retail' value). The appraisal I have received from the local jeweler was 'scrap value' appraisal (or 'estate' value, the 'lowest of the lowest'). Therefore, they should not be compared. Weired?
