They are not kidding with the patience with our staff sign at every table in this restaurant popular with locals. It is well worth the wait for the delicious cooking and the more than generous portions. The green chili is not as spicy hot as many other restaurants. Come hungry. Locals do know best.

The ambiance is very friendly. Temperature is very cool almost cold. The food here is delicious and that's the only reason to put up with such poor front of house. Sign says check in at register, no one in register window to check you in. Except for the quality of the food ... !

Great place! This truly is one of Gallup's places to eat! Absolutely, New Mexico True y'all! I am definitely going to try their Stuffed Sopapilla challenge, I think it's 6 lbs. or something like that. Place is worth a visit, & worth the taste. Great atmosphere -- very New Mexican -- & The service is great! Legit hot salsa to, I guarantee You WILL NOT BE disappointed!

Stopped in tonight for dinner. Wonderful service and delicious food. We also noticed a young man bussing tables. He was hustling! Hard worker.

Genaro's Cafe is located in an impoverished neighborhood and one of the locals favorite. Their menu consists of both Mexican and American favorites. Looking at other customers orders the burgers fries and chicken wings looked delicious, but I would feel cheated not having enchilada's & tamales Christmas stile. Hubby and I both ordered the 'crispy taco, cheese enchilada, tamale, Posole combo', hubby had green chili smothered and I have Christmas style smothered. The red sauce was made with Guajillo peppers-delicious, the green it have to be Anaheim peppers (Green chilies) were chopped in a delicious green sauce. Hatch peppers are not in season. Cheese enchiladas was not to my liking they used shredded cheese that did not hold inside the corn tortilla which had the consistency of having been microwave. The crispy taco was your typical store-bought taco shell, nothing special - The ground beef in the taco lacked flavor. The tamale masa was very mushy surrounding a small amount of shredded pork. The Posole was not served as a stew or soup - just a side of hominy. The refried beans and rice were average. The large sopapillas were delicious - served with real honey, not honey sauce. Friendly service.

Omg, they just said if you want refill on free chips it will cost you $2.99, for real, they said that! The chips are free but you are going to charge for refill? Service is not that great, they try, but not help fit and just keep asking if ready to order and when told not get an attitude. The food, I must say is great stuffed green chili sopa looks awesome. I had an enchilada with red and beef, can't complain.

Wow! Best food I've had in a long time!…read more I came for the historic hotel on the way home from Telluride to Scottsdale. There didn't seem to be much around to eat that was open on a Sunday so I came to the hotel restaurant. I saw lots of people had the chips so ordered the trio dip appetizer. The guac was definitely my favorite. So flavorful and fresh! The salsa was delicious but a little extra spicy and the queso was yummy! I ordered a cup of the green chile pork stew and it was spicy but delicious, a little light on the pork but very good. I got the Rita Moreno three chicken enchiladas with green chile. Best chicken enchiladas I've had in a long time! The chicken was moist and had just the right amount. Excellent flavor and melted cheese. The rice and beans were very bland. My friend got the chicken mole and got light sauce but she wished she had got the full sauce because it was that good! The whipped potatoes and sautéed veggies were the perfect accompaniment. I wish this place was where I lived because I would eat here as often as I could. Great atmosphere and service too. Had fun wandering around the gift shop after.

We went to the bar and waited for our table. The place was packed due to several motorcycle clubs from all over the country doing the Route 66. When we were finally seated, the first off-putting thing was our waitress. She was chewing a wad of gum and it was gross. I had a burger as did my friend. Our husbands ordered different types of pasta. We asked our gum chewing waitress for water 3 times. "Oh sorry, I'll bring it". Nope, a food runner finally brought us water. We asked for mayo 2 times. Nope. The same food runner brought it. By then, our food had been on the table for 15 minutes. The fries could have been cooked another 3 minutes. Not really crispy. The pasta was decent.

Pleasant environment, I especially loved the decor on the walls. The food was delicious, I had a chorizo breakfast burrito stuffed with has browns and scrambled with eggs. The burrito was smothered with my choice of green chile sauce, not spicy, however it was delicious. The whole beans served were flavorful. The other plate was the huevos rancheros with red sauce that was amazingly delicious, the kind of sauce you can eat Camarones (shrimp) à la Diabla, and the spice was just right! Coffee was delicious, not too strong or watered down, just right! I would come back to this place if I wasn't just passing thru.

Only 1 other beats it, and I'm extremely tough on my Pancakes so the 2place in my book is huge!! I had the Huevos Rancheros. Couldn't decide on red chili or green to cover my eggs so I had both. Yummy! Both were extremely tasty! No regrets there. Beans were absolutely tasty- no cheese, just home cooked frijoles de olla which was seasoned to perfection. Hubby had the traditional eggs n bacon. Oh, and the hash browns were buttery goodness. The atmosphere was like you stepped into your family's kitchen with your cousins whippin up breakfast. Such beautiful ladies and so kind. 2 fulfilling breakfast $27. Can't beat that! And the locals, all just good positive energy!
