Let's not forget the GIANT grass field behind the Hiawatha building that summer concerts are held at! It is located right next to a Safeway and across the street from a fancy sandwich shop, so picnics are very easy events to plan or to execute on a whim! On sunny afternoons you will find an abundance of children and on rainy days it us pretty quiet. Solid family park.

No tennis courts exist so I'm not sure what other YELPERS are noting but they have lost it...Back to the park so when it's the Summer Solstice in June you could run through the park naked but I think the neighbors would turn you in.. And since no fire pit's exist starting a bon fire to celebrate will end in an arrest. So I'll just grab some spiritual food and enjoy the sunseting on the longest day of the year... Not pristine, but far from the crumbling nightmares elsewhere in the city (looking at you, Cap Hill, though I think in the last 5 years it was taken over by skaters). Perks? Parking, local clubs, and a killer sunset view that almost makes up for double faults. And with Lincoln Park's trailheads across the street, you can either warm up with a jog or disappear into the woods after a humiliating loss. Lincoln park's wildlife is also the reason pickle ball will probably not take over these parks (at least that's what the west seattle blog chatter mentions). West Seattle may be its own island of stubborn pride, but these courts? They're a love letter to the city's quirks--competitive, scenic, and always worth showing up for.

We all still need some urban green space to roam on this planet. Not sure I'd wander around in bare feet since unsavory people have been know to consume drugs in the park but it's great to grab your lunch at nearby Calozzi's Cheesesteaks and gobble it up on a sunny day. The giant red hat & monstrous pair of boots use to belong to a local gas station that closed decades ago.. Cool gimmick for getting you to gas up, yet now will stand the test of time at OXBOW PARK for all to enjoy..

The entire setup is sort of like a front row view of the city, where one can learn visually by walking to the various piers that surround Lake Union. On select days one might see kayakers paddling next to bougie yachts, historic houseboats tied up next to ultra-modern marinas, while people watching joggers and bikers ride around the lake. On the best weather days, the view Seattle skyline is beautiful, as is the Aurora bridge, and Gas Works Park. It's not the most touristy spot, but it is a way to experience the euphoria of Seattle living while absorbing all the nature with it. Early morning summer visits are some of the best times here: crowds are sparse, the water is still, the air is clean, and one can feel the city of Seattle in all of its sensory glory.

My husband and I first wandered down here because we wanted to play bocce ball and throw the frisbee around; these are hard things to do when you have a very small yard on a hill. There was ample room for both of these activities. We went on a Saturday afternoon and saw no one else the whole time we were here. For being a couple blocks off Delridge it's a pretty quiet spot. In the middle of our bocce game I decided to try out the playground equipment. I wish I had a playground like this as a kid, no sharp edges on anything and no wood! Everything was plastic or metal and had a cool design. Of course I kept thinking 'if I was 3 feet tall this would be really awesome' but I still had fun. Try out the cool little rock climbing wall. If you're looking for a chill spot to hang out with your kids or friends I would definitely recommend Cottage Grove!

Most traffic that zooms past Roanoke Park is fairly deliberate; people are trying to get to the freeway or returning from the freeway heading somewhere else. Because most traffic is diverted elsewhere, Roanoke Park makes a nice breaking point for bike riders on a long ride or urban hikers needing to rest up a bit before continuing on. The foliage acts as a canopy overhead, enveloping visitors in an organic tent of green. The inviting lawns make a nice tabletop for a picnic. The park contains a playground for the kids (ahem, small kids) and little else. Smack dab at the southern end of a residential enclave I've observed many people make the most of a patch of green close at hand; however, the park is designed well enough so it doesn't feel so crowded in spite of its size. Roanoke Park is not ideal for lazy sunbathers or a lot of games but quite suitable for a bit of serenity in the midst of the city. No cruising, not a lot of noise within the park, just a genuinely nice spot to stop at.

I'm pretty sure I lived in my current neighborhood for at least a year before discovering this…read moresmall park in my 'hood. It's connected east of Dearborn Elementary school, in a particularly lush area of Beacon Hill. If you go through the park and continue south past the school, it connects you to the Chief Sealth Biking/Running Trail, which I LOVE to run on. When running with my canine steed, I let her run around and play fetch in the thick green grass field at the center (can get muddy during rainy weather) before hitting the Trail. If you're lucky, you'll find other dog owners there as well with the same idea. There's an odd cement "stage" complete with stairs close to the kids' playground. I don't know what it's really used for, but if I was little again, I would probably round up my old Heart cover band from when I was 8 years old and put on a good show ;) Amenities include (2) tennis courts, a cement/gravel walking trail that may be an 1/8 (?) of a mile 'round, playground with swingset, and two picnic tables. When school is in session, it can be hard to schedule around recess time but the evenings are usually lovely. On Spring weekends, you can find teeny-tiny kids playing soccer there (!!!). Soooo cute. I kinda wish they had restrooms here too; although I sometimes run a bit faster when I get to the homestretch of Dearborn Park, which is probably good for me haha Check out the walking trails in the woods around the park/school too. If it's not too overgrown, you can close your eyes and pretend that you have landed in some peninsulan forest on the coast.
