My wife and I went to Gentle Care as we had a couple of friends recommend us. Our 12 year old female cat Gizmo was sick. Suzanne and the team were amazing. Dr. Kim called me and gave me some bad news that Gizmo had cancer and it was advanced. We were heart broken but He and Suzanne were amazing and walked us through the steps to give Gizmo the medicine she needed to be comfortable. Last week it was time and we called Dr. Charlie at LaFinn and had a sad but peaceful experience as Gizmo sailed to heaven surrounded by love. We've been coming to this clinic for years, but this recent visit was the worst. The new veterinarian, Dr. Khanof, made us uncomfortable and did not handle our cat with the care and gentleness we'd expected. The vet tech struggled to administer the injection--missing the vein multiple times--and still didn't get the full syringe in. In the past, Dr. Bang administered injections himself, never leaving it to the vet tech. To make matters worse, we were told that records are only kept for three months so that they couldn't access our cat's previous treatment history. After three months, they are thrown away!! It feels like the clinic has shifted its priorities since becoming corporate--more focused on profits than pets. Unfortunately, we'll be looking for a new clinic after this experience. read more

Ridiculous. Don't go here unless you like being ripped off. Been taking our dogs here for 20 plus years. New ownership is absolutely horrible and their communication skills are below average. You just don't get the feeling that they genuinely care. Don't dare to ask a question that possibly questions their recommendations. Our dog who's been going there 8 years and gets daily apoquel has always been required a yearly evaluation, never blood work. He was due and we were just there a couple of months back at which point the doctor said that would count for his yearly evaluation to renew his apoquel for another year. Long story short, my wife took him in today because they now required it and said they'd waive the fees. We should've knew better. $500 bucks later for the visit and blood work. When I questioned their historical practices they had no response but to say they are under new doctors now. When I asked how often blood work is MANDATED they said it was a recommendation, to which I replied okay they we don't want to go forward with the recommendation, just mandated annual exam. He spoke with the doctor and came back and said going forward $300 blood work yearly but really it's mandated every 6 months. Tell me how all of that makes sense. What a joke. read more

After going to the same office for 17yrs, Dr Bang retired. The office is run differently and has new doctors. My 14 yr old dog needed to be euthanized and I called the office so I could take him in. The front desk personnel were genuinely friendly both on the phone and in person. They made check in and out easy, provided reasonable quotes, and clear post surg instructions. We were able to interact with at least 4 different individuals at the front desk during our visits. The three vet techs were also very patient and kind to our pet and finally both Drs (Dr Bang) were very friendly, communicated well and explained everything to us. The clinic is small but clean. We were seen and out in less than 30 mins. Prices are very reasonable. They also have coffee for those early morning drop offs. read more

Things have changed since Dr Bang has left They don't keep current vaccination records. They said after three months they don't have them anymore so they recommend vaccinating your pets every year and the vet we had was not very nice to our cat and the vet tech really struggle to get our cat injections. Had been coming here for years with my dog. Dr Bang was always great. He retired. Brought my 12.5 year old doggie in with her making a weird noise. The new Dr (can't remember his name but he's young) checked her and gave some pills and said if it's just a cough, it's ok but if it doesn't go away it could be something worse. Brought her in again because it wasn't going away and saw Dr Kim. He barely looked at her and gave her more pills. Brought her in a third time hoping they'd give me something for dementia because she wasn't sleeping and was obsessed with moving her bed all over the house. The new Dr saw a growth on her upper palate and gave her an xray m. said it was a growth in her nasal cavity. But Dr Kim looked at the xray and looked at her and said "she seems fine." More pills (and more money). By the way, the tech had come in before the drs came in and said, "I'll let the dr tell you the bad news" so we were prepared to hear the worst but like I said, Dr Kim said she seemed fine and sent us on our way. We took her to another vet the next day because she had green stuff coming out of her nose (Primary Care) and the dr took one look at her and said, "she can't breathe, she's suffering. That's why she's not sleeping and moving her bed around, she's trying to get comfortable." and gave us 2 days worth of prednisone so that we could have some time with her. That evening I could see she was suffering and not able to breathe. I'd never really noticed before but everything was because she couldn't breathe. She suffered for a month this way because Dr Kim misdiagnosed her. Even the tech knew. I put her down the next day. By the way the tech said Dr Kim is terrible and doesn't know anything. He's a quack. Do not see him. The new Dr is nice and is knowledgeable. If you go here, see him. I think his name starts with a K. I spent hundred of dollars on meds I didn't need and meds I got literally the day before she died that I never used. I'll never go back read more

Dr. Yousik Bang is abrasive and unkind. There was nothing "gentle" or "caring" about the way he treated our service dog. My dog is a rescue from a kill shelter and we were very sensitive going in due to several health concerns. We brought him in for a routine check up. We addressed a few concerns about my dogs health and Dr. Bang was impatient, rude, and he literally suggested that we give our dog back to pound! We were extremely offended and just baffled by his insensitivity. My fur baby is now a healthy service dog giving back to our community. I did end up taking him to "Little Cottonwood" in los Alimitos where he is welcomed and loved! read more

I took my 1 yr old Goldendoodle Kuma for his rabies and annual shots. Dr. Kim got down on the floor and gave him lots of kisses and rubs while the assistant gave him his shots! This used to be a great clinic. I recommended it to many of my friends. Not anymore! The office is dirty, the exam rooms are dirty, there are empty medicine vials on the counters in the shot room, they put your pet on dirty towels and rags right in front of you. The front office staff argues and fights with each other, right in front of the clients. I have personally gone in with an appointment, only to be told they didn't have enough of the medicine my dog needed. I've personally witnessed people leaving because they've had to wait so long, even with appointments. Too many other great choices out there. read more

I had been coming here for years for my two dogs. Last month, I had to take one of mine in for a limp on her leg. I didn't recognize anyone in the office and the service staff was not welcoming or accommodating. They were not able to diagnose the cause of my dog's limp, ran a couple tests, gave her some pain pills and decided to wait and see. A few days later after she wasn't getting better, I took her to another vet for a second opinion. (Also, I called Gentle Care three times to send me copies of my dog's x-rays for the new vet and never received them). The new doctor confirmed it was a severe infection and started her on antibiotics immediately, and was surprised that the original vet did not detect this. Unfortunately, the infection had spread so severely that we ended up having to put my dog down a few days after that. I was extremely disappointed with the oversight and service at Gentle Care, and it appears this is not an isolated incident. I will not be returning with my other dog. read more

Today I took my old boy to see Dr. Bang for a mass on his neck. It's a fluid filled one that keeps returning but it's been a few years. He was so gentle and kind when he was removing the fluid I was amazed my dog did not nip him. Then I had him help trim his nails. Luckily to good staff he helped keep Richie calm. Just one or two little oh no don't clip my nails but they got the job done. Also back in January my cat was shot with a pellet gun on New Year's Day at my high desert home. All the animals hospitals were either closed or at max capacity and was referring down the hill. Since I was caring for my mom in LB I took him to urgent care who also did a great job but said to follow up with our vet to do x-rays. Took my doxi in for her annual check and meds in Nov. Told them she was due in Jan For her dental cleaning. Uu me to come in for blood work ahead of cleaning which I did. Dr Dang called me to say her blood work was good to go so scheduled her cleaning in Jan. Took her in for the cleaning and got a call around 9 M that she did well. They pulled 16 teeth and said she had a bladder infection and an ear infection. Picked her up at 4 took her home with pills for pain and antibiotics. Next day went well till around 9 pm and she started heavy breathing. She died at 10 PM next day. I say, if you did blood work you should have known she was not well enough for surgery. I will not bring another dog here. Heartbroken. read more

I was a customer here for several years. The main vet recently retired and boy have things changed. I had an appointment and I called to let them know that I would be a few minutes late because of unusually heavy traffic. They said I had to reschedule or if I showed up I would have to wait. I showed up and the place was empty. There was not another customer but I had to wait because they had another appointment in 10 min. The vet could not possibly see my dog now. I was upset and let them know. I was firm when speaking. They said they don't want rude clients and I said that I was not rude and that I was a loyal and paying client and I would not be back. They shrugged their shoulders and waived good bye as I left. I drove to another Vet that had great reviews walked in and was greeted warmly and was able to get my dog seen. They charged me $39.24 for doxycycline and then added on another $18.36 for what they called a "Dispensing Fee," just to hand me the pills. I have been taking my pets there for over 20 years but I am going to be looking for a new vet. read more

This is the second time I bring my dog to Gentle Care Pet Clinic. The first time, she had a small bite wound that was pretty superficial. The wound was cleaned and some antibiotic ointment was put on it. A bandage was put over the wound which almost immediately fell off because of the location in the inner thigh. Then my dog received an antibiotic shot. All said and told, the bill amounted to just shy of $300 which I thought rather high. The second time was for vaccines. I inquired on the phone as to the cost of a rabies vaccine and was told it would be $21. I decided to get all three shots normally offered, and when I went to check out I was shocked that the bill amounted to $120. I said that I thought this is supposed to be a "low cost vaccination" pet clinic and inquired why the price was so high. I was told it's because of the "technician fee" of $20. When they handed me the bill, I was disappointed that it was illegible. When I asked for another receipt I was told the printer was out of ink and that they could email it to me. When I opened the email I saw an additional $8 disposal fee. They charge an extra $28 no one else charges. Update: I called them to complain I wasn't told about the additional charges when I called to get the price of the vaccines and the supervisor apologized and offered to trim my dogs nails or do an anal expression for free which I will probably take a pass on because I don't think I am ever going back to Gentle Care Pet Clinic. read more

Took my dog in for a teeth cleaning consultation some months back. Dr. Bang said her teeth "weren't too bad" and suggested some Oravet chews instead of a cleaning. Meanwhile, they'd already done a new blood test. The chews did nothing. I'm guessing the strategy was to get me to come back in a month or two with the same problem so I'd have to get another $200 blood test. There's no way that my dog's teeth didn't need to be cleaned. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. My cat was urinating outside of the litter box. She's prone to UTIs, so I took her in. Dr. Bang said her bladder was empty so they couldn't do a urinalysis. That didn't stop him from pushing Science Diet UTI formula on me. I knew that food was crap so I only bought 1 can ($3.55 for the small can). They asked me if I wanted "chicken or fish". The first ingredient on both flavors is PORK BY PRODUCTS. Totally deceptive and horrible for any pet's health. $400 later the prognosis was that my cat was stressed out because she had some fleas. I used to bring my pets here years ago, but I won't be returning. read more

I have brought my pets to Gentle Care for over 25 years. Dr. Bang was always wonderful and his staff always caring and courteous. Since Dr. Bang retired, I have been increasingly disappointed with Gentle Care and have decided to find another vet. They have started charging for ridiculous things to pump up the bill like "labeling and dispensing medication", there's a fee if you use a credit card but when you bring cash, they can't break a $20 -- hense more charges. The receptionist is a very rude twit! Lastly, I had to have my elderly German Shepherd put down and as my son carried him in, the Tech said, are you sure you want to do this"!! WTH?! Then Dr.Kim came in and gave my dog an injection to make him sleep. He obviously didn't give him enough because Max was not going to sleep so he goes out and gets more medication. Then after Max fell asleep he administered the medication to stop his heart AGAIN, he obviously did not give him the correct dosage because Max was laying there with his tongue turning blue but still alive for quite some time. Dr. Kim said, I don't think Max wants to leave us today"! Was that supposed to be a joke??!! Again, he had to leave to get more medication to finally put my poor boy down!!
