Been going to them for a couple years and they have some serious issues with administrative disorganization. I've had multiple cleanings that needed to be rescheduled 3-4 times. The last straw: I went in for a cleaning in March and they turned me away because of a health problem I had in February, and they said I had to wait 6 months or get a letter from my doctor. That part is fine and understandable, and I got a letter from my doctor saying I'm clear after 3 months. However, when I went back in early June the showed me a form that I needed to have my doctor sign, because the doctor letter was from March. I had never seen this form before , and if they provided me the form in March they would have been able to treat me at my appointment in June. Anyway, they're just very unprofessional and disorganized and I don't recommend them. read more

Do not go to this office. You have to pay upfront, which I don't care for, but I know is getting more common for dentists, for some reason. When you do, the office is required to refund you the overpayment after the insurance company goes through its billing and establishes a cost. This office has repeatedly refused to refund me the overpayment. My insurance has contacted them, informing them that they owe me almost $250 in refunds, but they still refuse to refund me. They are nothing but thieves and I would strongly suggest that you not have anything to do with them. read more

BEWARE - This particular Gental Dental was excellent, but recently changed to be out-of-network for one of the number one Dental Insurance carriers - and they did NOT notify us of this change. We had been going there for 6+ years and noticed many warning signs over the past year, such as last minute dentist changes (seems like many dentists have left this practice in the past year. I wonder why. I recently received a bill for general cleaning and x-rays that was labelled at late for an appointment almost 6 months ago. I called my insurance company and was told this charge was for the dentist being out-of-network. Apparently, the whole office is now out-of-network. Any other provider I've had (medical, etc.) has always sent a letter detailing that some of their coverage "rules" have changed. They have not done this and JUST let me know when I called telling me it is our responsibility to check this before hand. I have NEVER had to do this with a Dental facility before, as they always notified me of any changes like this, usually via a letter. yes, I have had to check on certain procedures, but not overall general cleaning, etc. I am putting this review out there, so you don't fall into this trap. The other low star reviews that tell you they often change your appointments last minute, make you wait 30 min + for appointments, and take up your time trying to get you to pay for overpriced and expensive care, are true. I started going to gentle dental after moving to the area over a year ago, and was told upon making my initial appointment, that they accepted my insurance. After not receiving any dental care for over a year, I received a bill in the mail, stating it was "over 90 days due" for almost 600$. I have only had one cavity filled that I was told was covered by insurance. I have called and left messages, and spoke to receptionists who have promised to call me back about this, to no avail. I was told my insurance didn't cover my single cavity... which I was told WOULD BE COVERED. For some context as well, my boyfriend has the EXACT same dental insurance and plan as I, and his single cavity was covered, and mine wasn't. WARNING..... David B's experience matches my own. I called last week to confirm that the office took my Blue Cross insurance. I gave them all my information, including my insurance ID individual and group numbers. I was told the insurance would be accepted. Several times over the next week, including this morning, I got texted reminders of my appointment. I drove down from Newburyport to Beverly, a 40 minute drive, for my appointment today. When I showed up - early - I waited for 20 minutes before a clerk told me my Blue Cross insurance would not be accepted. I reminded her that they told me last week that my insurance would be accepted, and that they had my insurance information in their computer system since then. She said no one told me that, shrugged and went back to her computer screen. AGAIN: MY INSURANCE INFORMATION WAS IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR A WEEK. ALMOST AS BAD WAS THEIR 'WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT' ATTITUDE. I've been on pain killers for a week because of an infected tooth that needs a root canal. Now I'm hunting for another dentist, with a tooth that aches even with three or four pain killers a day. read more

Update: I should have come back and updated this. While I was originally very angry and wrote this in an extreme fit of frustration. To be fair? Gentle Dental went above and beyond to fix my tooth right. It turned out that I needed a post inserted. So they did that, the temporary crown stayed on and the permanent crown hasn't budged since. YAY! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grrrr! While I really did appreciate the care and concern they showed this dentaphobe? I am extremely and I do mean extremely dissatisfied with my "permanent" crown that's not so permanent! This was done less than a year ago. Looking for a new dentist I was attracted by the special $57 new patient offer. It was as good as advertised: complete set of X-rays, cleaning, and exam by a dentist. I had a new crown put in and was very satisfied by my care and the price. The facility, which doesn't look like much on the outside, is very clean, neat and pleasant inside. All employees were friendly and competent. I was treated by Dr. Lawlay Azizi with the help of dental tech Amy. Both were very gentle, calm, and competent. I felt I was in very good hands. read more

Ok, I really hate going to the dentist. A friend recommended I got to this Gentle Dental for the extensive work I needed on my teeth. After putting it off for as long as I could I finally went. The staff is very friendly and put me at ease immediately. The office itself is super clean. They explained everything they were going to do and answered all my questions intelligently. Now here is the best part.... They were willing to help me with an affordable payment plan. I still have a few things I need done but I will get it all done here. I would highly recommend this office to anyone. I'm still not crazy about going to the dentist but I am not filled with dread when I do have to go. I used to scoff at those unfortunates who fear dentists. Then it happened to me- the awful experience- and I vowed to never ever visit the dentist again unless under heavy sedation. Fast forwarded a year and a half later and I was in total dental agony. Bullied by my coworkers who were tired of listening to my moaning and groaning, I called up Gentle Dental of Beverly and they fit me in that afternoon. I was trembling when the hygienist called my name and led me to the chair and I blurted out, "I'm in agony, but I'm even more scared of the dentist!" and told my traumatizing story of having my teeth drilled by a dentist who was too impatient to let the novocaine take effect. The hygienist was very sweet and assured me that in her 5+ years of working with Dr. Malmquist she had never seen a patient have a miserable experience. I also learned from her that there are different techniques to applying novocaine and that a good dentist would take the time to ensure that I was properly numb. After x-rays, Dr. Malmquist came into the room and introduced himself. Dr. Malmquist was very calm and soothing, took the time to explain the work that needed to be done and listened to my fears and concerns. Also, before I made a decision about whether to proceed with the work, one of the office staff came back with a print out of cost estimates. I decided to proceed and reminded Dr. Malmquist once again that whatever the last dentist had done with the novocaine hadn't worked. As soon as Dr. Malmquist applied the novocaine to my mouth I felt instant relief from my week long tooth ache. He let the novocaine work for a few minutes before drilling. I tensed expectantly while he was drilling, waiting for the pain that never came. In five minutes, he was done, fixing the minor cavity that had caused me so much pain and I never felt a thing. Thanks to Dr. Malmquist and the staff at Beverly Gentle Dental, I can once again count myself amongst the lucky few who "don't fear the dentist." (And the best part- the staff at Beverly Gentle Dental called my ex-dentist and broke up with them for me and arranged for my records to be sent over!) read more

I really like the dental hygienist at this Gentle Dental. She is really pleasant and has a cat bulletin board in her working space and likes when you add your animal friends to it. I think this creates a fun atmosphere. She does a really nice job too. The first time I had come here I was a bit surprised because I had never had a cavity in my 24 years. Maybe it was just age or not sure why, but I had a filling done by a female dentist and she was very rough with my mouth and left a large space in between my molars I didn't have before. I called to have this checked out and the male dentist Dr. M? (reddish hair) was super nice. I recently lost my dental insurance and was really happy I was able to take advantage of the new patient offer for $57. Overall, I like this place. read more

Let's for a moment disregard the fact that I had to pay for my husband to have his tooth removed again after he had it done here, by another dentist because they left shards of it in his gums. But, this place is horrible. The woman who runs the front desk and their policies are ridiculous! My husband very smartly switched to Tufts for his dental work after going here. I asked for his X-rays since we had already paid for them and insurance wouldn't pay for them again, not to mention he didn't want to expose himself to further X-rays. I inquired about getting copies of the digital photos that were his X-ray as Tufts said what they gave us was very poor quality (a 4x6 photo). They told me that I would have to pay $25. I mean, it's ILLEGAL to charge that much in MA but whatever. I paid it and she said she'd email us. Two weeks passed and I get the same crappy photo in the mail for my money. Not what I asked for. So I called and spoke with her. She said they'd send the email right out. Never happened. Well, the day before my husband's next appointment at Tufts, I drove here to see what the issue was. She said they couldn't do what I was asking because their computer doesn't work that way. Fine. Refund me. She said they couldn't! Excuse me? You can't give me what I paid for but you won't refund me! She said it's their policy not to refund any money and her credit card machine wouldn't do refunds (which is a blatant lie). So I exploded. I demanded either a check refund or a credit card refund and said I wasn't leaving without one. She said "well good luck with that". So I sat in the waiting room and refused to leave. Needless to say it eventually escalated and I left after making a scene. Wouldn't you know, by the time I got home, the email with the photos was there. Funny how it could be done all along! Update, gentle dental did post a response but they did not offer to correct the mess they made of my sons teeth. Instead I will be putting braces on again with a reputable orthodontist and pay for braces all over again. Please do not go here. Most orthodontists offer payment plans and will be consistent in their methods. My daughter goes to Dr Bebrin who seems to be a leader in the industry, a Harvard Grad, and we are not paying much more than I paid Gentle Dental. I used to have Dr Malmquist and the hygienist Vanessa. Everything was great here. However, Vanessa left and no one told me. I got some voicemail says by you can come in early today if you want, we have a cancellation! I kept my 530 appt because 230 is during work hours. So I show up and they said, the hygienist had to cancel your appt! No cancel call. They seemed apologetic, but nobody booked me the follow up appt, despite my numerous attempts. I give a very poor review for this Gentle Dental although I have to say I had a good experience with the Gentle Dental in Brookline previously to moving to Beverly. I could write a long review with all the details but the bottom line is that they told me I needed thousands of dollars of dental work. I am normally trusting and go along with recommendations from doctors, but I felt there were some red flags in this situation. I followed up and saw two more dentists for opinions. I was extremely pleased with the service my son received from this office. The receptionists were excellent, friendly and helpful. Regina is great!! Becky who may have been a hygienist was so sweet and made my son feel so comfortable and also shared personal experience to help ease the process. Dr. Goldberg is exceptional at what he does. He was able to go through the "cause and effect" why my son needed braces. He thoroughly explained, the what ifs, the possibilities, the plan a, b and c. It was amazing to see him incorporate my son to take part in his treatment plan, something his previous ortho did not do. Our previous experience was as followed "your son needs braces, this is how much your insurance will cover and we want $1100.00 down payment from you" Well sure, hold on one second please so that I can rip a kidney out with my bare hands and sell it on the blackmarket....just for you. I had a dental emergency while in Salem that required immediate attention. Gentle Dental got me in their schedule the same day... the only reason work wasn't completed the same day was my fault forgetting to premedicate. By the next day dental work was completed and I could smile again! Broken front tooth/cap replaced with a temporary and new one will be ready in 5 business days before I leave Salem. Everyone in the office was so helpful and Dr Jacob and his assistant definitely lived up to being "Gentle Dental". Thanks so much to you all!! read more

I had a similar experience to others with bad reviews. I went for a cleaning/exam 6 months ago, took tons of x-rays and everything checked out fine. Went in for a visit 6 months later and the dentist came in, barely introduced himself, looked at my mouth for seconds, then listed off 12 CAVITIES I needed to get filled. He did not explain the reasoning to me and when I questioned it he just said "technology has improved" since my last exam...I was then told to talk to the receptionist about any other concerns. I got a 2nd opinion and only need 3 cavities filled. 12 was an outrageous estimate and I would've ended up spending upwards of $2K. This was also incredibly poor bedside manner; no patient care. I have gone to this Gentle Dental for cleanings and a rootcanal and crown. The prices are much better than other local dentists. I paid a lot less (after insurance) for my root canal and crown than a friend of mine did at her dentist. Pros: The office is clean, they took me right away, tools are clean, they did a great job on my teeth, cost-effective Cons: Not as much 'bedside" (chairside?) manner as other offices I've been to. The hygenist never really explained what she was doing--would tell me to 'Open.'. I felt a little rushed, even though I was the one stuck in the chair! The people were friendly enough, but not really overtly so or chatty. It is sort of the Jiffy Lube of Dentists--you get what you want done quickly and the price is right. I guess you can't beat that! I recently had a crown done by Dr Jacob @ Beverly Gentle Dental. Both the Dr & his assistant Kasey were extremely attentive during my visit, making sure I was comfortable & if there was anything I needed. We had a little small talk & a few laughs which made me feel at ease & then Dr Jacob explained what he would do step by step before beginning my procedure. I'm sure there are a lot of people that have anxiety and or fears of needles, but put that all to rest... when Dr Jacob gave me the novocaine shot it was the smallest of "pinches" which was a big plus for me!! He has a great touch with the needle. During my procedure he was constantly asking me how I was doing, he has a great bedside manner & you can honestly see he genuinely cares for the wellbeing of his patients! I received top quality care by Dr Jacob & his assistant Kasey. Also, the girls at the front desk showed they cared, asking how I was feeling after my visit. This Office cares about their patients. Three times I checked to make sure Gentle Dental accepted my dental insurance and three times I was assured that I was covered by my insurance. They LIED! I have been billed $142.00 for a teeth cleaning and told that in fact they do not accept my dental insurance. To add to this debacle when I questioned the $142.00 charge for a cleaning I was told it also included the dentist's examination. Seriously, he looked in my mouth for less than one minute!!! I feel this business is totally unprofessional and I hope this will help to warn other trusting consumers. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I paid over $2000 for partial upper and bottom dentures with Dr. Malmquist. I went back several times to have them ground down here and there because they never fit right from day one. I have never been able to eat with them. I never felt as if the upper actually fit together with the bottom. I went back for fitting adjustments several times and he had to grind the molars so much that they now look like incisors! This can't be right! In addition, the uppers don't fit against my palate; there's a huge gap. I told him when I try to eat, food literally seeps through the teeth. He told me it was "just something to get used to." I complained that the plastic was too thick and I couldn't get a seal, like when your tongue goes against your palate when you swallow....and it was scary to even try to swallow food because I was afraid of choking. Again, he told me it's "just something to get used to." A few months went by and I went to a different dentist for a second opinion. The new dentist told me that "These are only used for temporary dentures." He asked me when Dr. Malmquist was going to give me my "permanent dentures." I told him I had no idea of any of this and I was never told I had permanent dentures coming. These are it! He was confounded by this. Fast forward a year and my "temporary dentures" are sitting in a cup in my medicine cabinet, unused. I can't eat with them. If I do, I'm going to choke on my food. The only time I EVER wear them is if I'm going out and want to look nicer because, if I laugh, people can see the gaps where my natural teeth are missing. If I am offered food, I have to excuse myself to go to the ladies room to REMOVE MY DENTURES SO I CAN EAT!!! How screwed up is that? I may as well have taken my hard earned money and flushed it down the toilet!! I can't afford to pay for dentures a second time so I am stuck with dentures that suck. read more

Had a bad experience here in December 2014. Long story short, after being in pain for many weeks following oral surgery and multiple rechecks where I was told "everything is fine" and offered more and more Vicodin scripts in response to my saying the pain was so bad I couldn't function, another dentist removed the chunks of tooth the Beverly Gentle Dentle surgeon left behind. Needless to say no one in my famiiy wants to return. Also read the fine print on everything very carefully. They checked with our insurance company to find out what xrays we were elilgble for ( Just moved to Beverly after same dentist for 40 years on West Coast this was our first visit) and did any and all xrays insurance would cover. Now they require $25 per person to provide the xrays we paid for. It was in the contract, I didn't notice it (Was in excruciaring pain) but their claim this is standard in the industry is FALSE. Our new dentists contacted the office for each of our xrays and were horrified when Gentle Dental rudely refused to provide the xrays we paid them to take. They were rude to me when I went in to pick up the first ones for me, and when I called today to arrange to pick up my children's they said they had to come in in person to pay for them. These are my adult children who have jobs and school and can't go in personally. The staff was nasty and refused to work something out like my coming in to pay the ridiculous fee and then they send directly to dentist. We've told them we do not intend to return they still call and email multiple times during the year. read more

I could not have ask for a more welcoming and pleasant experience after having a freak accident and almost loosing my front teeth. The Receptionists were helpful and informative. Micheal extremely supportive and helpful with financing and just making me feel like my situation was going to be under control. The hygeniest was educated and informative and very friendly. I left feeling confident that I was taken care of and that the future was bright. Affordable care and sympathetic and professional staff with exactly the type of personalities that you want to be around when dealing with something as important as your teeth.
