Ungentle dental: 1 hour surgery turned into 1 hr and 45 minutes. When she was finally done I asked the front desk if she gets a NEEDLELESS SYRINGE and she has NO CLUE what I was talking about. I asked the head nurse if he uses hydroxyapatite toothpaste and he said it's a prescription mouthwash only. Check online, dudes obviously not aware. My wife couldn't clot because they lacked adding enough stitches so she went back and they didn't put the anaesthetic in the right spot so she felt the on call nurse stitching her mouth with pain. Awful place. 3 thousand for 4 teeth to be removed and she had to go back because they sucked at their job. It's cheaper somewhere else and better anywhere else. Dr. Ansari is now with Gentle Dental in Peabody. My recent experience is similar to many others who have written about her on Yelp regarding her former dental office in Boston. For me, Dr. Ansari recommended the removal and replacement of four old fillings. Having always had a good experience with Gentle Dental, I mistakenly trusted Dr. Ansari. She is an unskilled dentist who messed up three of the four teeth that she worked on. Dr. Ansari removed and replaced my four old fillings in one sitting. After about a month of continuing pain whenever I ate, I finally went back into the office for a follow up. Dr. Ansari joked that I should "just stop eating." She then filed down one of the four fillings. She had done one filling unevenly, and so my bite was off. This was causing bruising each time I bit down. Unfortunately once the biting pain subsided, I realized that in a different tooth I was having sensitivity to hot and cold. I went to a different dentist and it was revealed that Dr. Ansari did not completely fill another of the four fillings, thus leaving the nerve exposed to sensitivity. Ouch! Xrays also revealed that on a third tooth she did not sufficiently pack the new filling, and so now there is an air bubble inside. That filling will no doubt break and have to be replaced. Only one of the four filling removal/replacements was done correctly. And I am of course wondering if any of the removal/replacements were even necessary to begin with, based on what others have written about unnecessary procedures. read more

I liked this office until recently. If you need to see the oral surgeon. Go somewhere else. Anytime you try to see them you will sit in the waiting room for hours after your appointment time and the front desk will not communicate with you, and when you ask? They will get annoyed with you. I don't have much good to say about this dental office, but let's start with the positives: * Flexible scheduling. Realize day of your appointment that you have to work late and can't make it? This place doesn't hassle you about it, which was always appreciated. * Open extended hours. Good luck finding another dental office with appointments on Saturdays or evenings. * Accepts most insurance. Okay, now all the bad stuff. The first dentist I saw here was actually pretty great. Very gentle and didn't push too many treatments outside of fillings and extra cleanings. He was there for maybe six months, but then a new guy came in. He was very pushy and didn't listen when I said things hurt. Worst of all, EVERYTHING warranted a crown. Like, my tooth wouldn't be bothering me, but this guy insisted there was major decay and a crown was necessary to save the tooth. I tend to believe medical professionals, so I went with it, but I got a bit of a wakeup call when, as he was placing a crown, this dentist suddenly informed me the crown would be a **gold crown**, not porcelain. WHAT THE HECK??? That's a major impact on someone's appearance, and not a decision you force someone to make when they're in the dental chair, numb, and is mid-treatment. Frankly, that's downright abusive. For personal reasons, I declined the gold crown (and kudos to me for standing up for myself!) - in hindsight, I wonder if a crown - any crown - was even necessary to begin with. The tooth hadn't been bothering me at all. The next time I came in, I was informed that dentist had moved to Canada and introduced to a new dentist. Surprise, surprise, I needed yet another crown! I decided to hold off for the time being. A few months later, a crown came loose while I was eating a gummi bear. Ooops. I came in to get it reattached. Right after commenting that the existing work looked "great" and "very clean," the dentist (yet *another* new dentist... hmmmm.... I see a pattern of high turnover here) announced that I needed a root canal. They kept insisting that crowns ONLY come off when you need a root canal.... no exceptions. Okay, this was kind of bullshirt, as they say on The Good Place. (Also, I assumed at the time this was the tooth that above-mentioned jerky dentist did, and, at the time, the dentist agreed. Thirty minutes later, new-new-new dentist called to inform me it was another tooth. Um, that's something a dentist should catch before they sit down to share the bad news that you apparently need the ultimate in dental therapies.) Really questioning the dental care I was getting, I went back to a dentist I used to see when I lived in Boston. He took one look at the tooth and said, "your dentist wanted to do a root canal over this?" He explained that the cement was old and that sometimes, old crowns come loose. Unless it's bothering you, no need to assume the worst. He reattached it, no problem. I learned an expensive and painful lesson - not being able to trust your dentist when they say you need treatments isn't worth in-network insurance payments and evening appointment hours. The high turnover at this place isn't an accident - they probably only employ dentists willing to upsell pretty much everything and anyone with a soul probably leaves as soon as they can. I could also mention scheduling screw ups and insurance errors, but this review is already getting too long. Tl;Dr: This place is awful. They only care about making money, not at all about the actual health and well-being of their clients. Stay away. read more

Please do not go to this establishment for ANY reason. Especially for oral surgery! The office administration does not know how to do their job, or understand insurance in the least. They were not aware or wanted to take my medical insurance, even though it is a medical procedure. The doctor was wrong about the wisdom teeth and wanted to extract them with only Novocaine. They wanted 900 cash with use of Caine or 1500 cash with anesthesia. Also the place was filthy and dents, holes in walls, and only curtains for privacy. When a dentist is yelling at you through the office this makes me no longer want to come to a place even though I loved my dentist before Dr. Mangham you are amazing. My experience was anything but amazing my second time and it made me embarrassed that a dentist would do that in the waiting room and give many reasons to my anxiety. I am sad that today's events led to a dentist acting the way he did and I hope that he will learn from his experience from now on. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I made an appointment for a tooth extraction at 10 AM. I wasn't seen until 1 PM, and at that point it was extremely rushed. I'm talking 15 minutes for a double tooth extraction. I told the doctor I was in pain and needed more local anesthetic, but he just KEPT GOING. This is why I hasn't been to the dentist in years. For shame. On top of this, their time management caused me to miss a class and they're too incompetent to even get me a doctors note. It's wild. The Saugus one is definitely better. read more

Dr. G. runs a good practice and service. I've been his patient for about 15 years now. He's always prepared to advise and explain the procedure. The staff is friendly and they do their best to take care of you. Love that Edna (so well informed and very caring & professional. There's a wait but usually not long. I also like my new dental hygienist, Darkys (I hope I spelled her name right). The office staff is really well informed and take the time to negotiate a better price for the procedure with the insurance company. Today's procedure was unexpected. Dental Heigenist was Peggy Dentist was Dr. Mangan. I was visiting from the west coast and had a severe dental emergency that kept me from traveling home. This practice not only took me right away without even knowing who I was or if I had insurance etc... and they took care of my needs ASAP. I was so impressed that o returned the next day for a cleaning and I'm now establishing this practice as my home base for my dental appointments (I will be traveling back and forth for business anyhow so my home base for dental care can easily be here ... and I must say that I'm GLAD I had this emergency in the outer Boston area so that I could meet this doctor and enjoy this staff. Best of all the dental Heigenist is he best I've had in decades. I learned more while in her chair than the last 40 years of regular cleanings. She educated me on the latest knowledge of self care between visits. read more

First, the staff is wonderful. They smile and greet you and chat and make you feel welcomed. i cant complain there. Back in Feb i developed a very back tooth ache and decided to go to Gentle Dental. i had recently seen the GD for a cleaning so ive been there before. When they xrayed my teeth there were a few cavities. On the side of my tooth where there was pain i had a cavity and the tooth behind it had a filling which possibly needed to be redone. The doctor recommended a crown to fix my pain. i was in a lot of pain, couldnt drink or eat on that side of th mouth. So he did the crown and i was suppose to come back in two weeks to get the permenant. A day later i was still experiencing pain .. i was assuming it was due to the work. i gave it a few more days but then realized it was the same pain. i called in the office and made an appointment same day ... the issue is i come from waltham and was stuck in some traffic, when i called then they said if i was late they could not see me ... i did mention if i had an infection they should def see me and they apologized and so i had to reschedule again. this blew my mind. on my visit the doctor spent 1 minute with me and said its normal and we will wait to the permement crown or do a root canal. mind you no one mentioned about infection or checked or even the cavity in front. when i mentioned to doc if we should first do the cavity he said no that it def wasnt the root of the pain .. you kinda believe these people since they are the professionals. a week later i went in and they did the replacement ... my god .. the woman probed my loose crown and yanked it off ... it hurt. i had asked for a topical or shot and the nurse said she had to ask the doctor ........ what the heck ... the doc came in and took the final crown and literally pressed it so hard in my mouth i grabbed his arm due to my reflex. the pain was unbearable. he apologiezed and saod he should have warned me ... apologized. he told me the pain would go away soon but i demanded a shot ... he gave in and gave it to me. i left and was crying all the way home. the pain remained and i went to another GD in waltham. They took care of my cavity and saw an infection under the tooth the first doc never mentioned. gave me antibiotics and since then i have no pain. they even added topical to the area they gave me a shot in ... sonething the first doc never did. i spent $700 dollars on the crown. the doctor wanted me to immediately get a root canal that would have cost me $900 or so. when all i needed was the take care of my cavity $200 and some antibiotics. they didnt even send my xrays to my new dentist without having to be called 4 times. let this sink in next time you are advised here to get work done. i will never go here again. *** Follow up My tooth stopped hurting soon after my medication was taken. I spent around $1000 because of an infection. read more

My friend had chipped his tooth and they were very accomodating with his limited schedule to get him in for an appointment on MLK Junior day, only day he has off. It was busy but the receptionist was kind and Informative. The Waiting area is clean, plenty of seating. They have a tv, set to talk shows. And the radio playing at the same time which is odd... But I dont have to stay long. There were no cups for the water dispenser, so I couldn't have any. I used to go to Gentle Dental in Peabody. Unfortunately, the services I received there were subpar. In one instance, they installed an implant and a crown. The implant itself I did not have any issues with. However, the crown was not made correctly. Instead of remaking it, my dentist grinded my lower opposing tooth almost to the pulp. My current dentist was so upset when she saw that. In another instance, they refused to honor the fees established by my dental plan and kicked me out of the chair because I objected. I would not recommend this place. You would not save any money but would definitely receive substandard service. read more

I was out of town, and suddenly was having some significant tooth pain. I called this office, it was close to the hotel I was staying at, and they were able to fit me into their schedule the same day. I was seen promptly, even though I was early (how often does THAT happen??) - and the dental assistant was very thorough in going through what she was doing. They took a couple of X-rays and the dentist came in shortly after. After looking through my X-rays and giving me a thorough exam, he found a small calcium build up between my rear crowns and removed it. Apparently my hygienist must have missed this on my last visit a couple of months ago. The pain stopped almost immediately. Cost for visit? $0.00. Courteous staff, very friendly and thorough. It's unlikely I'd have to return here, but if I needed to, I'd be back in a heartbeat. There's parking nearby and also outside. Bring a few quarters. But you locals know that already. read more

*SIGH* Where do I even begin, I cannot believe that I went to this place to begin with. I went in because I had a cavity which turned into a hole. I figured since this location is closest to where I lived, and they had great ratings on Google that I was in good hands right...WRONG!! I had an appointment and was running a bit late and called ahead and told them that I would be 10 minutes late since you are giving a 15-minute grace window. The Latina lady on the phone told me that if I wasn't in about 5 more minutes that I would have to re-schedule. I made it just in time, but I wished I had missed that appointment. So I got there and the dental hygienist was very nice to me. She took an X-ray of my mouth and stated that the dentist would be in shortly. The dentist by the name of Dr. Abhishek Apratim was even more late but I figured since I was late, he was going to make me wait which is fair. I told him what happened, and he then proceeded to look in my mouth and stated that I might need a filling but he might not know for sure until he is actually doing the filling procedure. He proceeded to leave the room and then came the same Latina assistant then came in and made me look at how much it would cost for the filling procedure which would cost me about 150-175 and I thought cool its understandable and signed for it. He then came back in the room and started to numb me up and then he left once he started I already knew something was off. He then stopped and then took another x-ray stated that I would need a root canal and a crown. I was like wait a min I came in a for a filling so I should leave with a filling. I don't like when people don't give me a choice and try to force what they best think. All he had to do was remove the cavity and put it in the filling. Granted yes I would feel more sensitivity but I don't have the money right now given this pandemic to be doing anything but a filling. He then proceeded to have another assistant come in again and explain the root canal and crown procedure costs to me. He then came back again and proceeded to work on my tooth no explanations as to what he was doing to my tooth and he kept deep sighing the whole time as if he was aggravated about something. I think he was mad at the fact that I wasn't showing pain that I actually needed a root canal procedure since I was showing him that I didn't really want a root canal and he then scratched so deep in my gums that I actually had to raise my left hand. He then proceeded to put in some medicine, a cotton ball and a temporary filling and stated that the pain I felt means that I needed a root canal. I looked at him in such disbelief. He then left me with the dental hygienist to put in the temporary filling and while shes putting in the temp filling other people kept walking in the room and talking while she was prepping me and also asking her questions like that is so unprofessional. I felt like I was in a supply closet getting work done by a back-alley dentist. After she was finished, she told me the dentist would come back, he was gone yall for a good 15 minutes. He then came back and stated that I would need the root canal and the crown and I told him that I would need to call my insurance and see if they would cover it knowing damn well in my head that I would be going to another dentist for a second opinion. He then left and the assistant came back and asked if I had any questions about the procedure that I would be having I then told her AGAIN that I would talk to my insurance first before I agree to anything so she then made me wait in the room for another 10 minutes and the dentist looked at me as if what else did I needed and stated to me that the assistant said that I had more questions and I told him NO I never said anything like that to her. He then told me AGAIN that if I didn't want to do the crown that I would at least need to do the root canal. I told him AGAIN that I needed to talk to my insurance. I then finally walked out and went to the front desk and all I saw was QR scan codes to write a good review for them on Google and the front desk receptionist then schedule me for an appointment that I knew that I wasn't going to come back to. I was there for a good 2 1/2 hours you guys and mind you the filling was too high and I couldn't even bite down good. That same day I found my old dentist and scheduled an appointment 2 days later and Gentle Dentle was taking their time in trying to send my dental records to her thank god she got them in time and she saw the x-rays and did a sensitivity test and said with the tooth that Dr. Abhi worked on still has healthy nerves and that she can do a filling with some medicine from the looks of things but she needs to look at what Dr. Abhi did to my tooth exactly. She also noted that Dr. Abhi had already begun the prep for my tooth for a root canal. So not only did they totally disregarded what I wanted but then proceeded to do a prep procedure without even asking me. read more

I have been a client here for 10 years. I had a cleaning appointment this weekend that was booked 6 months in advance. The receptionist called a few days ahead of the appointment and told me I HAD to also get X-rays while I was there. I told them I only wanted a cleaning and didn't want to be exposed to radiation when I'd never had any cavities, but they insisted that was not an option! Billing your insurance for these additional services, even when you don't need them, is how they make extra money. In this case, they clearly chose money over the client's best interest. Went today for a toothache. This dental group are by far the kindest and nicest i have ever met. The office is warm and inviting and everyone is friendly and helpful. I did not have a procedure done because i can not afford it, but they did everything they could to get it to a point where i could. Unfortunately being out of work due to covidv19 i just could not afford it. They did give me a perscription for a antibiotic and pain killer. Once everything gets back to "normal" i will be back. After stealthily avoiding the dentist for the last few years, I found myself in the midst of a very scary dental emergency this last weekend. Upon waking on Saturday morning, I called Gentle Dental (at 8:50am, before they even open!!) and Edith got me in to see their emergency dentist - Dr. Mangan - that very afternoon, despite their crazy busy Saturday schedule. Upon walking into a very full waiting room, Amanda greeted me and made me feel instantly relaxed, while Cecelia sat me in the exam chair and told her own busted face story much to the delight of myself & my bestie (who had also busted her face) and told me it was going to be a-ok. Dr. Mangan was warm and effusive (adorable, really) and took incredible care in examining my tender face, all the while assuring me that this was something he sees quite often in his line of work and that I would be on the road to recovery soon enough. After 3 days of a heavy lisp that's cute unless I'm angry, I'm ready to get back to smiling without terrifying passerby's and even myself when I catch a glimpse of my reflection. Not to mention, I miss eating and drinking like I did for all those years that I took it for granted. Part 2: Amanda (you da best - sorry that mushroom meringue failed you!) got me right in on Monday (today) with Dr. G for my tooth repair/temp crowns to get me through Thanksgiving. Dr. Giamarco and his assistant Edna are the best! I recently had to have a filling replaced and they effortlessly and comfortably accomplished it. Edna then skillfully performed a Zoom Procedure on me to whiten my teeth. My teeth look beautiful. Both Dr. G and Edna are friendly, patient, kind, and professional. Gentle Dental has restored my faith. I was contacted by the office staff, and they did their best to make things right. As I mentioned previously, I've always found the administrative staff very supportive in many aspects. I met with another dentist who was much more accomodating and patient in explaining my recommended course of treatment and the rationale behind it. He also provided a little insight into why I may have been treated badly on my last visit. Still, I can't completely excuse what happened, but I'm changing my rating to reflect the willingness to admit a mistake and then try hard to correct it and move on. read more

From the receptionists to the assistants are all amazing and know what they are doing! Affordable service and if you refer a friend you get a discount! They all really make you feel at home! When you make your appointment and sit in the clean,crisp waiting room it usually only take 10-15 minuets for them to call you! They have entertainment like music,magazines,and the news!
