You want to know why Rema is awesome? She just is. Her personality is fantastic and she has serious skills when it comes to threading. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years now (after a bad waxing incident left me burned with a tiny scar) and originally I got threaded at Pyara Aveda by this lovely Indian woman who introduced me to the concept and whose name I'm totally blanking on. She left Aveda and I've been looking for ages for someone to compare. I think as threading as gained in popularity, more places are getting their aestheticians trained in it, but they don't specialize in it. Rema specializes in it. The first two things she asked me when I came in were if I knew what threading entailed and then asked me if I was allergic to aloe vera. NO ONE ever asks me that. I always have to tell them not to apply any salves on me since most contain alcohol which makes my skin flare up like mad. The fact she was awesome enough to ask me my allergies before doing anything is A++++++++++ in my book. She's fantastic. She remembers your name, she's sweet as punch, she's super proficient at what she does, she runs a clean and tight ship. I am totally sold. read more

Rema does phenomenal work! So why only 1 star? Well... I saw her only once - last August - and she did a great job with my brows. I previously always had them waxed until they were made uneven at my last waxing. Rema was informative about threading and gentle. She asked for my opinions and gave hers. I went with her advice. I asked her if she would mind doing my upper lip also. She happily said yes. We had agreed that I should let my brows grow in for a couple months to start anew. I tried scheduling an appointment with her in December and was told that I am "too picky" and take too long. My mind was BLOWN! Picky?? She asked questions and I answered them. I also followed her suggestions! I don't understand how that is being picky. I've called and left a few messages in the 6 months since to see if she will see me and I do not get called back. I guess my business is not wanted. It would have been nice if I was told about my "pickiness" at the time of my appointment. Her husband is quite rude on top of everything. All scheduling is done though him. You leave a message and if he feels like it he calls you back. It IS pricey but Rema's quality warrants the price, if I'm being completely honest. The first time I tried going to this place, I was walking on the TJ Maxx Side of Harvard St. and was looking for 524 Harvard St. only to find myself walking all the way to Coolidge Corner. Luckily, I'm a persistent little one and tried a second time. It's in a very obscure apartment area which is exactly across the street from TJ Maxx. Rema is amazingly clean and I'm pretty sure she washed her hands at least once and then hand sanitized them before even touching my brows. Oh and did I mention she's really sweet? There wasn't a moment where I felt uncomfortable in the process and because she's telling you what she's doing or going to do you feel a bit at ease, especially since it was my first time. She does an initial threading and asks if you want it thinner in case you're super afraid of having it too thin. She leaves a good amount of brow on the initial run but will only continue if you feel comfortable. The process took less than 15 minutes with no wait on a Friday night and it was pretty painless. She charges $18 for eyebrows not including tip and I think for the job she does she should be tipped well. :) read more

Rema is incredible. While the cost is a bit more than I'm used to, it is worth every. single. penny. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years and have never had them look so good. She starts out asking what kind of eyebrows you like. I told her I like a dramatic but natural looking arch and she did some sort of wizardry to lift my arch like it's never been lifted before. She also got them to look the most symmetrical they've ever looked. At the end she showed me an area she would like me to grow out to perfect the arch even more. I've never had someone take so much time to discuss my brows! While the process took longer than I'm used to, she is extremely thorough and meticulous - she trimmed at least 3 times (I'm used to just once!). OK, so first I gave this place just a weak 1 star because I think it is totally sketch and annoying that to make an appointment you need to first leave a message & then get a call back (what if you say, have a job, how are you supposed to answer the phone all the time??). Well I did schedule for today at 11:45am and was VERY PLEASED. The husband was very nice on the phone and when I could not find the place (I parked about a ten minute walk away) he was great and gave me excellent directions. He let me know right away I'd be seen in a few minutes and there was a wide selection of cheap magazines, too! Rema is GREAT. Very very quick, friendly, upbeat, and complimentary of my eyebrows (in the past done monthly in San Francisco by an Indian woman). Rema is from Jordan so appreciates Middle Eastern hairy eye brows and the beauty of keeping eye brows THICK not so thin. She cleaned then up, shaped them a little bit, and for 18 dollars I was on my way. She hardly even thought I'd tip which was odd (don't worry, I did). And I'd suggest making your appointment for 1 month out when you leave so that you don't need to do the whole call call, wait for a call back thing. Lastly, as for parking -- the appointment takes 10 minutes all in all so I'd say save your quarters on metered parking and go for the Stop and Shop Parking Lot. Rema is such a friendly person with that beautiful, jolly voice that you can't help but to love her! She tells you step by step what she is doing and is very thorough! Rema is absolutely amazing. I've been battling my eyebrows for years and spent the last 6 months using a salon that only tweezes because I had heard it was better for shaping thicker brows. I was so unhappy with how they were looking I decided to risk trying threading again. After reading the reviews, I had a great feeling about Rema. She made them look absolutely incredible! That being said we are in Boston, MA not New York or New Jersey where fantastic threaders line the streets to give you your best brow for under $10. AND Rhema will give you your BEST brow. In this city of overpriced everything a visit to Gental Eyebrow Threading is worth every single penny. This woman is a "threading goddess" working amongst a sea of pretenders and therefore she gets to price her work accordingly. She takes into account the shape of your face, eyes and the condition of your brows. She also suggests waiting to grow them out to help attain the best shape for you if necessary--which means less money for her. She actually cares about her customer. Beyond brows Rhema is also one of the most positive individuals I've met thus far. Women leave her shop glowing and confident and not just because of their well defined brows. Best, best, best threading job I've ever had. And the customer service provided by Rema was exceptional. I was in town on a business trip in May; I was pressed for time and my eyebrows were in dire need of some TLC. Rema returned my call in a timely fashion and she managed to squeeze me in after hearing my availability. I was received warmly, and instantly felt at ease having my eyebrows handled by a "new" threader. Considering her tight schedule and still managing to squeeze me in, she took her time. Rema is great, truly friendly, professional and kind. She has a great upbeat spirit and has an honest opinion of how to do your eyebrows. My advice is make an appointment at least a week in advanced. She does book quickly and the person who books the appointment is professional and courteous over the phone. $20 is a bit more expensive then what I would usually see for eyebrow threading. But I have been to many places and am very picky due to bad experiences of having my eye brows messed up in the past. I trust her. The place was easy for me to find. The place is located in the back of a blue building. If you walk on the right side of the building and towards the back, right next a pre-school/day care, you will see a door that leads you down the stairs. Just follow the signs and you are there. No need to knock. As long as they have your name, they will call you in. The first time I walked in to Rema's (without an appointment mind you!), it was pouring rain and incredibly gloomy. When I left, the skies cleared, the sun was shining, and angels were singing. I attribute this solely to Rema's threading prowess. The woman is a genius. I have crazy thick, unruly eyebrows, even by Indian-girl standards. Usually, when I get my eyebrows done anywhere else (waxed or threaded) I always feel silently (and sometimes not so silently!) judged by salon employees. Sorry I have big-foot eyebrows, but I'm paying you to make them look presentable. Rema IMMEDIATELY complemented me on how thick my eyebrows are, told me that she could tell the natural shape of my brows was beautiful, and that she would help to define the shape. She's very bubbly and very personable. Right away she started a lovely conversation with me. Rema and her husband own the salon, and they have a lot of Indian and Middle Eastern girls come in regularly--so they definitely know how to tame even the most unruly brows. The couple is from Jordan originally, and Rema has been doing eyebrows since she was 14 years old. To make a long story short, I walked in with big-foot brows that hadn't been done in over two months (because I didn't have time,) and I walked out with stunning brows that even Kim Kardashian would be jealous of. The down side to Rema's salon is that it's hidden in Coolidge and by most threading standards, her prices ($18-20 + tip) are a bit high. But I'm telling you all to suck it up and go get your eyebrows done by Rema. She is truly gentle, friendly, and really listens to you. You start off with a consultation, and then she gets to work. She takes her time and is very respectful, and will constantly check to make sure you are okay and like the direction she is taking your brows. It's a bit hard to find---you have to go around the back entrance to 129 Harvard Street (which is a blue residential looking building that contains various small businesses) and down the stairs! I was unsatisfied with the end result -- especially since I stressed that I would like to keep the thickness of my brows (I look terrible with thin brows). Rema is fantastic! I've been going to her on and off for a few years. It is pricier than the mall-kiosk threaders but she consistently delivers great results. I've never been "cut" here (when the thread pinches your skin and slices your skin). As others mentioned, the place is a little "hidden". There is a door towards the back, right-side. I have had to wait a few minutes even when I come on time to my appointments but I think that is normal for threading. I've been loyal to Rema for about a year now--she knows brows like nobody else and is about as sweet as apple pie! However, like many here have mentioned, her husband is another story altogether. So when you make an appt, BE SURE to confirm it's Rema who will be working on you. Her husband, Abraham, seems to be more actively involved with her business nowadays, managing phones, payment, and taking some clients. I guess it's tough being compared to Rema, but he definitely doesn't seem to have the accommodating nature she does, or the threading skills. I was a bit late for my appt, bc of work and the dreaded ancient draconian wagon that is the green line, and I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld--the soup episode, you know--THAT one. I mean, it is a major part of my face, but after reading the Yelp reviews for Rema, I felt confident that she would do well, and I am glad I went! Just need to add my love of Rema and her skills! I started going to her a couple of years ago after getting fed up with how painful waxing was (and how much it made my brow break out), and I will never get waxed again. She truly is gentle, taking her time to carefully sculpt your brows to perfection. She asks before putting aloe on you, which I appreciate, and if you're new to threading she thoroughly explains the experience. She is very cheerful and chatty, which makes it a very pleasant experience. People always comment on how beautiful my brows are and I owe it to Rema! I've also had her work on my fluffy chin and she did a great job, getting every last hair. Her space is clean, bright, and comfortable. She takes walk-ins but I suggest calling to make an appointment to be sure she will be there (she was recently away on vacation, which I wouldn't have known if I hadn't called first and heard her message). Her husband usually answers the phone. He's very pleasant and always makes sure to ask if you want Rema to do your brows (he also does some threading there) and reminds you about her payment methods (I believe she only takes credit cards if your bill comes to a certain amount, over $25 maybe, and cash tips only). Her prices seem a bit high compared to some other threading places I've seen, but I'm happy to pay them because she does an excellent job and I like knowing that I'm supporting her small business. I had my brows threaded somewhere else once and even though it was cheaper and closer to my home, it was more uncomfortable and they didn't do as thorough of a job. Rema is great! I have been going to Salon Luiz on Newbury Street to get my eyebrows done (which is $25 + tip). I found Rema a much better artist. Although $20 is still a lot, I think it is worth it. There aren't a lot of places in Boston to get your eyebrows done nicely. At least for me. I have very thick eyebrows and so they don't look good if done the wrong way. But Rema was fantastic. To begin: I do like Rema and she did a very thorough job on my lip and chin (have yet to try the eyebrows). She is funny, positive, and high-energy. The threading was quick and efficient. I won't lie: it still hurt, but seriously, there's no way lip threading is ever going to be painless and this was pretty damn good for pain levels. The only reason I'm taking off stars (and this would be 3.5 if i could have done halfsies) is because the price is high (at least for lip/chin) and for someone who has a go-to salon in NYC, it was pretty shocking to see that it actually cost more to have my lip/chin threaded here (a bare bones office within a real estate agency) than in a fairly fancy salon in Columbus Circle, NYC. However, service is indeed fantastic and the place is accessible by the 66 bus. There aren't many places in boston where you can get threading done anyway, so this is a good place to come. read more

Rema remembers your name and your eyebrows. She is very aware that I prefer thick eyebrows and will ask for my opinion before threading certain areas away. I decided to try Gentle Eyebrow Threading today because of all the awesome reviews. Since the hours start at 11:00 am, I decided to arrive around 11:25 to leave a little room. However, I arrived to find an empty office with a sign saying "will return at 11:30". Not too bad I thought- I didn't mind waiting a little while since I came all the way out there. 11:45 rolled around, then 12:00, and I finally decided enough was enough and I had to run to catch my bus. So now I'm down 2 bus fares and a whole wasted morning. And I still need to find time to get my eyebrows threaded. I am very disappointed. What an unprofessional way to run a business. read more

I was not disappointed. Rema is very sweet and personable. She charges $18, which is around the going rate, and I have to say she really is very gentle. It was quick and virtually painless. There was no redness or irritation of any sort, so great if you have sensitive skin. She followed my natural shape and did a good job of not making my brows too thin like I had asked.
