The tips tear off so the tips of your fingers get no benefit. The manicure too was slapdash. I came home and looked at my nails and the awful painting and took it all off and redid them myself. Only advantage is that I am a better manicurist than someone I paid $100 too. Avoid, avoid, avoid. There are so many good nail salons at half the price or less.

It started out on a strange note, the girl who did the waxing just came out of the back waxing area and waved me in; someone else was waiting so I wasn't exactly sure if she meant me at first? One of my BIG pet peeves is someone not introducing themself (and welcoming them to a brand-new location), and that was the case here. Worse than the "just a wave, no introduction" was the actual wax itself: forget about the usual going home and needing to pluck a few hairs (emphasis on FEW); in this case, I went home and looked around to find someone who did "patch areas" AND could get me in quickly because there was an entire section that had not been waxed!!! It didn't occur to me to LOOK before I got dressed, but now I know I should check out the handiwork before leaving. That was another $20 added on (as well as the time of finding someone and going to the appointment), so it definitely wasn't a great experience!

I went yesterday, Monday, September 7, as a walk-in to have my builder gel removed and get a gel manicure. An older gentleman assisted me. Before starting, I communicated that my index finger was sensitive because I had recently bent it. I also explained that I wanted to try to keep some of my length, while understanding that some of my nails were fragile and that he might need to shorten them. He immediately seemed visibly frustrated. He cut my nails and then asked if the length was okay. I reiterated that my goal was to keep as much length as was appropriate, particularly so I could maintain an almond shape. We continued with the service. When it came time to choose a color, I asked if we could try one color and, if I didn't like it, potentially switch to another. He seemed frustrated by this and asked why we would have to do that. At that point, I stayed quiet, but I will admit that my guard was already up. He applied the first coat on one finger, and although I was hesitant about the color, I said we could proceed with that hand. After the first coat was applied to one hand, I asked if we could instead put two coats of another color over it to make the color lighter. I've had this done at other salons without any issue. The nail technician immediately became very upset and said it wasn't possible, that he would have to redo the entire thing, and that I shouldn't have told him to continue with the first color. He raised his voice at me. I acknowledge that I eventually raised my voice as well because I was extremely frustrated. I even pushed my chair back to gain space. I told him that he didn't need to have an attitude or speak to me that way and that I was doing my best to remain calm. He then said he didn't want me to get my nails done, make a complaint, and come back to have the service changed. I explained that I was specifically trying to avoid that situation, but at that point, the interaction had already ruined the experience for me. I told him I just wanted to finish the service and leave with the color that was already on my nails. He continued trying to convince me that the color looked fine. By that point, I had enough and told him to drop it and that I wanted us to continue the service in silence. He made several more attempts to reference the color, and I reiterated that this had already become a bad experience and that I simply wanted to finish my service. And now, less than a day later, my gel polish is already CHIPPING. Gel polish should absolutely not be chipping the very next day. Overall, I would not recommend this salon based on my experience. The attitude and customer service were extremely disappointing. I was very shocked that the manager or supervisor did not step in or intervene but instead them and the other nail techs just observed. I also want to point out that, even with pedicures, they do not appear to use liners or provide new individual tools such as clippers, nail pushers, buffers, etc., the way other salons I've been to do. That's another reason I personally would not return. If you're in the area, I would recommend checking out Nailosophy or Purity Nail Bar instead. I honestly regret not going to one of them.

I instantly knew that was BS because I've gotten waxes looking like a bear on the wax table multiple times and NEVER HAS IT BEEN THIS UNBEARABLY PAINFUL. I could also tell she either wasn't trained well or didn't have any experience because she focused on one area of my body vs bouncing off body parts like a waxer would normally do. She focused on my Brazilian area for about 30 mins continuously applying wax over and over again. I asked her if my skin was red or bleeding and she told me no, but the moment i sat up to look my whole Brazilian area was very red and bumpy from the pain and amount of time she went over it. Normally when someone is doing a Brazilian on me, it takes about 5-7 mins if that. I've never experienced a wax session this bad. And on top of all that, she couldn't finish because she felt uncomfortable to do so with is understandable, but the fact that i am literally getting on a plane to Mexico tomorrow is a HUGE inconvenience to me! Now im forced to shave the body parts she didn't get to. I haven't shaved in 3 years because I am a consistent waxer. The fact i have to shave the rest is utterly disappointing and frustrating. I am beyond upset and lost for words at my experience today.

I have had so many bad waxes in the last two years, but decided to take one more chance and booked online with Jenelle (based on a couple of reviews on Yelp). My appt was at 9:15 on a Saturday morning, so there was no wait at all and the salon was quiet. Jenelle is really nice and did an AMAZING job - not one single stray hair for me to tweeze (which is not a problem for me, but I have left a few visits elsewhere practically needing to go somewhere the next day... no exaggeration) and no wax residue on me either. If you have ever had wax stuck to you the next day that just will not come off, you know how exciting this was for me! The technician had a nice demeanor,…read morebut her technique left me with sores (that soon turned into scabs) on my lower lip and eyebrow area. Instead of using a single swift pull, this technician (Sheila) used a series of small pulls, which I believe led to the sores. But I'm not sure about that. What I can say is that I'm in my mid-50s, have been waxing for decades, and have never been left with sores/scabs. So this issue is distinct to this visit to EWC in Brookline, MA (and I've been to several others in the area). Additionally troubling is that I wrote a note to EWC stating the above to no avail, even offering to send them photos that I'd taken. Not only did no one contact me, I know they received my complaint because I got a follow-up survey inquiring as to my satisfaction regarding the efficacy of their follow-up. Incredible! You can't make this stuff up. I've even checked Junk, thinking "surely not, surely *someone* would have written back; maybe it went into the Spam folder." Nope. Non. Nada. Anyway, the woman at the front desk was lovely, friendly, chatty, and very welcoming. Despite that, unless I want more scabs, returning to this EWC seems unwise and so I won't.
