    Roof needing repair
    Reg P.

My tenant recently reported a roof leak at my rental property. I called / spoke with Dana the owner of Gentry construction. He gave me an estimate that covered the leak as well as other areas of potential future leaks and serviced the entire roof including cleaning gutters, securing slipped tiles, replacing broken tiles, sealing miters, installing rubber collars around ABS pipes flashing and replacing damaged underlayment with weather lock premium grade. And this work is under a 3 year warranty as well as the option to extend the warranty for $100 per year. This really gives me piece of mind when it comes to potentially costly unforeseen future roof problems for my rental property. He worked with my tenant to schedule when to come out and completed the repairs and work in one day. I had a good experience working with Gentry Construction and I would recommend them based on that.

    After work was completed

Exceptional Roofing Expertise and Honest Service from Gentry Construction After a mostly dry year, we finally got our first real rainstorm of the season -- and that's when I discovered a small puddle of water in my bathroom. This had never happened before, so my first thought was that I had a roof leak. I ruled out any plumbing issues and checked the ceiling, where I noticed a droplet of water near a light fixture -- a clear sign that the leak was coming from the attic. I started looking at attic ladders on Home Depot, but most were over $400. At that point, I figured it made more sense to find a professional who could inspect and fix the issue properly. Yelp is always my go-to for home projects because you can really tell which contractors are trustworthy. After reading reviews, I narrowed my search down to two companies, and Gentry Construction stood out right away. Dana from Gentry got back to me within a few hours of my initial message -- impressive response time. I missed his first call due to work, but when I called back, he was kind enough to stop by the same day to inspect the roof. He understood the urgency and treated it like a priority, which I really appreciated. Dana spent about half an hour inspecting both the attic and the roof. He explained his findings clearly and in detail: the leak was caused by improper shingle installation around a roof vent. The builder's subcontractor had overpainted and incorrectly layered shingles, causing rainwater to backflow into the attic. Even worse, Dana discovered that the overall roof installation was poorly done -- missing nails, nails driven too deep, and shingles that hadn't sealed properly due to being installed in cold weather. What stood out most was Dana's depth of knowledge and honesty. He walked me through multiple options -- from fixing just the leak area, to trying to get a lawyer involved to follow up with the builder for the entire roof -- and explained the pros and cons of each. There was no pressure, just straightforward advice. I decided to have him repair the vent area to prevent further leaks while I work out next steps with a lawyer. The next day, one of his workers came out on schedule. During the repair, they realized they didn't have the right paint to seal a section properly, so they made a trip to the hardware store to get the correct one -- that level of attention to detail really impressed me. When the job was done, they showed me before-and-after photos, and the workmanship looked excellent. Throughout the process, Dana stayed in touch via text and calls, always quick to respond and incredibly professional. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the service and communication. It's rare to find a contractor who is this honest, skilled, and responsive. I highly recommend Gentry Construction for any roofing needs. Dana's high Yelp ratings are absolutely well-deserved, and I'll definitely be calling him again in the future. Thank you, Dana and team!

This review is several months late! Like from 3/18 ish. Sorry Dana and Jarardo! Let's get to it! So for the first time I used yelp vs being on the contractor side and it was a trip. I requested a quote from what I thought was 1 company and got blasted! Like it was insane. First caller was Dana! Dude was on it! Said they'd be out the next morning for the walk through and bid/ proposal. Next morning, promptly! Jarardo (Dana's son) was at the door, and ready. Young sir was super polite, let me give my spill (told him I had tiles and was gonna try myself, but no!). He heard what I had to say, then got to it. This dude walked the whole roof and came down to run through his findings. Look, I've been in construction my whole life, and when you know, you know. This man had the job before I got the quote. Anyway! He pretty much confirmed the mess I knew about and saw my Jerry rigging (it was a hot mess). I told him please use my tiles if you can if not all good, the man was the only one out of 4 companies to 1.) listen to me, 2.) offer preventive maintenance!! (Mind fn blown), 3.) grantee the whole roof. For 3 years! When this young man brought up walking the whole roof and would do the once over and make sure it's right so when we sale (wanna buy a home by Franklin high?) that we would be handing off our home with the know roof issues handled, guaranteed and the warranty transferred with new owners. Both Jarardo and Dana made me feel comfortable, confident, and I was damn sure the price was legit fair! Honestly, I had to ask to satisfy my cheapness, but I felt guilty for asking if they did cash discounts because the price was that good. Leaving the state or I'd be using them for all my needs that fall under their scope! Now let's get into the guys. Yelp! No I in team! They guys got here at scheduled start time (15-20 min early actually), waited till 7 before setting up. The lead walked me through what was gonna happen. Let me say this. They started at no where near where I thought the work would be. They literally unroofed my pad, like 4x what I thought was gonna happen! And had it all together before dark! No nails, cigarette butts, trash anywhere to be found. We opened our home for the bathroom and they left it spotless! Efren and Jose and I believe another helper killed it! If you work from home on demo/ install day you might wanna go into the office. It's a lot like a war zone on the roof for noise but that's what it is. They get it! And get at it hard. Very pleased! Gave their info to the whole block! Let's talk price! Being in construction I felt obliged to get a few quotes, I mean the phone wouldn't stop! Out of 4 companies they all except one where within $500 of each other. Not enough to matter if you ask me. One company I so wanna name drop but won't. Was a straight character! Didn't want to even walk the roof unless the job always $2800 or more, was worse than a car sales man and didn't listen to jack I said. I was clear I wanted everything fixed for the next owner(s). Dana with Gentry was the first out, most professional (bravo to his son! Again had the job before he hit the truck.), didn't ask for a dollar up front, delivered more than expected and left with us happy as hell. Jarardo, Jose, Efren and boss man Dana my wife and I want to thank you for your hard work! I've given your name and company info to our realtor, and numerous others. Your work was stellar! Oh! It rained like two days later and not a damn drop baby!! So relieved! Again thank you! If you need any bobcat work while we're still in town hit me up! I got you!

Dana was quick to respond to my query which prompted me to have his team asses the damage of my roof. Amazing gentleman who's family has been in the business for generations so he knows his sh*t and doesn't try to fluff and sell you extra things that you don't need. In this line of work, we need people you can trust, provide honest feedback, and tell you how it is. On top of all that, Dana gives you the solution to do it right the first time. Dana doesn't skimp on his work, makes sure to communicate throughout the process, and send pictures to let me know he and his team is taking care of the problem. What also gave me peace of mind is that he gives a 3 year warranty! Other repair companies I've called doesn't give you warranty after they complete the work or just 1 year. Now I know my roof is protected and the value and quality work given is tremendous. Special thank you for Dana and his crew for their hard work! The team came out right after I called them during the Thanksgiving holiday, when I needed them most and when it was difficult to get anyone out. A golden star for their team for looking out for the customers first! I had them completed one property, they did such a great job, I had their team work on a couple other properties for me. I'm adding this company to my contact list to call whenever I need their help and I recommend you give them the opportunity as well.

Y'all getting my roof done by McLain's was a dang mixed bag…read more On the one hand, I have a beautiful new roof that was put up in record time. The crew was polite and worked so fast, without sacrificing any quality which is important. Cecil was very friendly and polite and professional. Based on all that alone? I'd have given five stars. But let's talk about the Jeff-Goldblum-sized-Fly in the soup, shall we? The job concluded and there was a sizeable pile of refuse left over, laid out in our drive and alongside the inside of our yard. Not to mention the little pieces of trash surrounding the property, and the fact that they used my recycling bin to store some of it. We had to text and request that they come get the trash. Then there was the matter of a ladder they left behind for a considerable amount of time even though the city came out right away to inspect the work--we had to send a joking text to ask if the ladder came with the new roof. Then when they got the ladder, they made no moves to let us know, and in decided to shove some paperwork in plastic in between the fence slats--important paperwork we needed for records--rather than, I don't know, putting them in the handle of the storm door OR BETTER YET THE MAILBOX so we would be sure to see them. Like what on earth were they thinking leaving paperwork there like that?! Completely unprofessional. What really cheesed me off was getting a certified letter from the roofing supply company, letting us know that if McLain's didn't pay their balance for the supplies, they could put a lien on our roof?! I'm sorry what? If I order a cake from a baker, I don't get a notice for them to pay their balance for their flour or sugar suppliers, lest the take out a lien on my cake! Like what do you mean?! Maybe that's industry standard but as someone who worked in manufacturing, I never even heard of such a thing and frankly don't love that. All in all? A great roof, but the finishing steps left such a sour taste in my mouth, I won't be recommending them to friends and family.
